  1. I had this camera 14 months and it worked great. One day last week it wouldn't turn on. All it did was pop the lens out and then right back in. I did some research and found this is a common problem with this model. Called Kodak and they told me to pound sand. Just a word to the wise. Avoid this camera...

  2. I picked this camera up to replace a Canon sd100 that I absolutely could not stand and let me tell you I have owned some really expensive cameras and this little camera stood right up there with them,I don't have one bad thing to say about this camera. It took EXCELLENT Pictures and EXCELLENT video. The pictures were so clear and all you had to do was just press the button. It took the pictures that fast to. I was extremely please and impressed with this little Kodak.

  3. I bought the first Kodak series digital cameras in the 1990's - when they were only 1 megapixel.
(Have used Film SLRs previous to that- and owned a few digital cameras since)- just to preface this review with my experience level.
Stay away from this camera. It gives horribly grainy photo results- and generates jpeg file sizes that are half the size of my Canon S550 (which is only 5 megapixels- yes file sizes vary based on subject matter- but not by a factor of HALF the size- when the megapixels are much greater). Went through the manual- online help, and phoned Kodak. Confirmed manual quality settings for sharpness, High color, ISO, 8.1 megapixel, and aspect ratio- and still.. marginal/poor image quality. Confirmed- it is not a lighting issue either.
You'd think an 8.1 megapixel camera from Kodak would yield good photos. Well.. think again. I wish I bought something else and didn't waste precious memories with this crummy camera.

  4. I just purchased the Kodak M863 digital camera and I couldn't be happier with it. It is easy to use and takes very good pictures. I have one very small problems with the camera. The user manual could have a been a little more informative. Not to worry though, you can get all the information you need on Kodak's web site. They also have a great support team . They can be contacted via the telephone and you actually get a real person to answer all your questions. This is a great little camera and for the price you can't beat it. Buy with confidence.

  5. I bought this as a replacement to my Canon 4MP digi and it failed miserably. Going back to Canon for the rest of my life. My new Canon SD790IS is AWESOME.

  1. This is a good subcompact camera. I believe it should boot up a little faster. Also, the software is quite bloated. It would be nice to just plug and play with Windows XP.

  2. The qualify of the photos is very impressive, esp. with people. Really just point and shoot, and you get great shots. However, I really am disappointed with the following:

    1. to switch to video takes too many steps

    2. it is very easy to delete all photos while you are just trying to delete one

    3. WORST, the Easyshare software (version 7.0) that came with the camera didn't work at all. Even after downloading the latest & greatest (version 8.0) from the Kodak website, it's still doesn't work. I chatted with Kodak support for like an hour, trying many things, and eventually, they just asked me to "clean up" (not just uninstall, but eradicate) Kodak Easyshare, and try the whole thing again. I haven't have the time to do so, so I'm just taking my SD card out to copy the photos/videos over for now.

Compare to Canon (I had a Canon A750), the Kodak Easyshare software is obviously & sadly inferior.

  3. I typically love kodak and this is roughly my 5th Kodak Easy Share and I have been satisified with all of them. My last one broke after 1 1/2 years so I bought another one thinking it was a fluke. My current Easyshare M1093 did not live up to the quality I expect from Kodak. The majority of the pictures come out grainy and it does not take good pictures unless lit brightly. I switch to many different modes and none seem to help. Don't waste your money.

  4. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2VSW31RLR0W73 Short sample clip of the Kodak M1093's 720p video.

  5. Likes:
    - Small enough to carry in pocket.
    - Battery life okay but I'd suggest getting a second as backup.
    - Focuses and shoots fast. (already on)
    - Smart capture usually takes the best/easiest photos.
    - Zoomable while recording video.
    - Long video record times. 30 mins. I think.
    - Hi resolution video.

    Dislikes:
    - Sometimes, if the battery dies while the lens is extended it gets stuck out until you can get power to it again. When that happens, I usually wait a minute for the battery to regain a little juice then quickly turn it on and off to get the lens retracted. This is a bad design flaw. My old Kodak EasyShare DX6490 4MP Digital Camera with 10X Optical Zoom was smart enough to not allow you to extend the lens without enough juice and always retracted it just before dieing.
    - The lens is starting to make focusing noises after 2 months. My DX6490 did the same thing after 1+ years. You could hear the noise in recored videos.
    - Takes too long to shoot from being off and takes too long to turn off.
    - Switching between modes is a little slow because you have to go into the mode menu (dedicated button).
    - I assumed you'd be able to select aperture & shutter priority with this camera but you cannot. You can use presets like macro and landscape to suggest what you want but it's not the level of control I was looking for.

Disclaimer: I've only owned Kodak EasyShare cameras. So I have no experience with other brands. I've liked my past Kodaks enough to continue to buy them.

  1. i got this camera for less than $100 in my local target store. why is amazon jacking up the price?

  2. Just got back from a trip to California and back to Florida, took 800+ photos. All turned out exceptionally good. This camera took about 300 photos (none w/flash) just on the rechargeable battery pack (about $9 or $10) and I had two AA cells in a case as back up. It took photos inside very dark Spanish cathedrals because of the great 1250 ISO rating. I took lots of photos from the car window while moving and they turned out very clear and any street signs were very readable. I simply connect the camera to the computer with the USB cord and the camera shows up as another drive, so then I just copy/paste photos from the camera to the computer. Also I can use the included Kodak software for transfer but I prefer the simpler copy/paste. The camera has no problem showing up as another drive (much like a flash drive added to the computer USB port). If you copy/paste photos they are all numbered serially to help keep them in order for viewing if you should add them to a viewing program. The only minor problem is that in a very bright outdoors environment it is somewhat difficult to view the area to be included in the photo, but certainly not impossible, not a problem for me but maybe for others. This is a very easy to use camera; when I wanted someone to take a photo for me I just asked they push and hold the button for a second or two and no one had any problem taking a good photo. The simplicity of photo taking is a real advantage as I could pull the camera from my pocket and snap a photo in seconds, then review it to see if I needed to take another photo; if so, I snapped the next photo within 5 or 10 seconds. I have the recharging/printing dock also which is really helpful; keeps the rechargeable battery always fully charged and camera ready to go anytime. Photos printed from the dock look just like from any photo shop w/excellent color.

  3. I was given this camera a year ago and have had it in my purse ever since so I won't miss a special moment. It is a great camera for those who don't want to fuss with lens settings etc. It does all the work for you and has many options that are all built in and are easy to use. I bought one for a 76 year old friend and my niece bought one for her seven year old daughter. We are all enjoying terrific pictures with little effort. This camera does not take good night pictures of lights [like Christmas] but fulfills all my other needs year round. Two things I would suggest purchasing are Lithium batteries as Alkaline are not long lasting in the camera,[copper tops don't work well at all], and a larger SD card. The lithium batteries I put in last year are still going strong and I purchased a card for a few dollars on line which holds 300 pictures. There are extras included with the camera that make it even more enjoyable. Look around the internet and you can find it for around $80.00 new. A later model is now out, but I found that this was the better of the two for me.

  4. Bought this for my Mom who knows nothing about anything digital. So easy to use and takes very nice pictures. It's a little bulky but for an easy point and shoot it's great.

  5. We bought this camera for our 7-year-old last year for Christmas. We wanted to find a camera that was not too expensive so it wouldn't be a big tragedy if it got broken. The flash stopped working about three months after we had it. When we finally got around to sending it in, they fixed the flash and sent it back and now it won't take videos. When you turn it to video mode and push the shutter button, it takes a picture. The picture quality is bad, too. The pictures aren't as good as my first digital camera, which was a Canon 3 megapixel or my second, which was a Fuji 5 megapixel. I don't understand why they can't take that older technology and make a really good inexpensive camera for kids! Most people don't need 8 megapixels (or more) anyway, and what good is a bigger picture if it looks like crap? The Fisher-Price kids cameras with the big rubber case take such bad pictures that they are not even worth buying, in my opion. How is that fun for kids? They want to be able to take pictures like mom does. This camera was a real disappointment.

  1. I have owned old Kodak camera's and loved it. I bought this one out of desperation just before Christmas last year. I didn't research the product and bought it because it seemed like a good deal. Found out quickly that I waisted of money. You can do much better for about $50.00 more and another brand. The picture quaity just isn't there. Not to mention the thing stopped working after 6 monthes. Did my research this year and went with a canon!

  2. I have had this camera over a year and have complained about it from the start. I should have taken it back when it was still new. No matter how I change the settings the light is too bright but if I don't use the flash everything is blurry. It gets very frustrating losing your picture opportunity with the picky-ness of this camera. When I try to do close up pictures it wont focus on the right thing. I had a chance to play around with my Moms Cannon at about the same price range and will be looking to get rid of mine. I do not like this Kodak! This camera is supposed to be a point and shoot. I have used disposable cameras and gotten better results. Finally fed up!

  3. This is my second Kodak Easy Share and I told a sales person who worked in cameras at Walmart who was talking about getting her daughter a camera and I told her if I was her I would get her an Easy Share C913 they are great and take Great photos and videos and are so simple to work. I use My camera all the time.

  4. I bought this camera to replace one lost while traveling. I also needed one that would work on my printerdock, which, many of the newer Kodak Easyshares won't. This one fit the bill perfectly, was slightly smaller than my previous one, and took better pictures (more MPs). While I'm sure it's not studio quality, it's a great camera for traveling when space is at a premium.

  5. The battery life of this camera is horrible. It did not hold a charge. Was able to return it which was great. I would not purchase this camera again.

  1. THIS CAMERA IS BETTER IN MANY WAYS BUT NOT NEARLY IN ALL WAYS THAN COMPETING CAMERAS COSTING MUCH MORE MONEY. I WAS HAPPY ENOUGH WITH IT TO REPLACE IT WITH AN IMPROVED VERSION OF IT, THE KODAK EASYSHARE Z1485 CAMERA, BUT I BELIEVE THAT THAT THE Z1485 IS BETTER THAN THIS THIS CAMERA IN QUITE A FEW WAYS OTHER THAN THE INCREASE IN TOTAL AVAILABLE PICTURE ELEMENTS (PIXELS). THE KODAK Z1275 CAMERA IS ESSENTIALLY IDENTICAL TO THE Z1285 FROM ANYTHING THAT I CAN SEE OTHER THAN ITS COLOR.Kodak EasyShare Z1485 14MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Black) Kodak EasyShare Z1485 14MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Blue) Kodak EasyShare Z1485 14MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Pink)

  2. The only good thing about this purchase was getting my payment credited back to my account by the seller. After claiming difficulty with my mailing address, seller was apparently content to use my money for a month and then return it. My advice: don't do business with DealCrisis for your electronics needs- or anything else for that matter. For their part, Amazon.com was very helpful.

  3. I have always taken care of my camera. I had it for almost a year. And then the shutters stopped opening. I had to force them open and closed. Also due note that kodak cameras are not compatable with movie maker or windows media player on Windows and is also difficult to to put your videos on youtube. I actually stopped putting vids on youtube after I got my new camera. Because it was so annoying. I bought it because I could zoom in in video mode. I found out that expensive cameras are not the best cameras. I hope this helps out somebody.

  4. I loved this camera actually, I would also love to rate it 5 stars too! The battery life was terrible and the pictures were only decent. There was also a small learning curve with the camera too.

My hugest complaint was once I took 12 pictures the battery was out. I had to keep changing batteries which was a pain to do and the pictures weren't that clear.

Fortunately it was easy to take the battery in out, which I needed since I kept on replacing the battery and the video quality was pretty good. Sometimes the pictures would also turn out great as well. This would be a nice camera for everyone if the camera's battery would last a lot longer and maybe the picture quality was a bit better.

  5. I purchased this camera a few months ago, not from Amazon, but from Walmart. Had to let everyone know that the negative reviews are true. I thought others had gotten a dud, but my pictures are blurry and grainy and I've tried all settings. Also, it eats batteries--I changed them twice a day on a recent vacation. Had a Canon before this and will go back in a heartbeat.

  1. Well I've been using the Kodak Easyshare Z1015 IS (ridiculous name, yes) camera for a few days now, so I thought I'd put in my two... or five... cents. First thing is, when you take it out of the box, if it feels a little cheap, well don't be surprised. But is it cheap? Well, yes and no. I'll reiterate this a couple more times in this review, but the price is really good for this camera. But what everyone really wants to know is--how does it perform? The answer to that is a mixed bag.
First, the push-to-capture speed is pretty fabulous for a digital camera. Meaning that you've got less of a chance to miss that perfect shot. But what if a MORE perfect shot comes along oh... in the next 2-3 seconds or so? Well too bad. Because the processing/saving to memory time of this camera isn't great. Yes, I've got the latest firmware update (which it came with, but I checked anyway), and I have a class 4 SDHC card, so it's no slouch. However, the speed did prompt me to order a class 6 card in hopes that will help my cause of taking more than two pictures in ten seconds. Of course, there's always the burst feature... which isn't all that quick, either.
So there's some bad for ya, how about some good? Well, this camera, generally, takes great photos. With the thing in one of the manual-oriented modes, jpg on fine and sharpness enabled, wow, very nice pics from a camera with this price tag. What else? Well Kodak just upped the ante with their Z980 with the 24x zoom (for $100 more), but the 15x zoom this baby sports is still really, really nice. What about the focus when you get in that close? Again, and unfortunately, the answer is it's a mixed bag.
Yes, the manual mode is great for a point and shoot, and it does allow you to manually focus... sort of. Meaning that if you can get it to basically focus in on your subject, then you can refine the focus and make the pic come out better. But the manual focus is very, very basic. Those expecting to use this as some sort of replacement for a more expensive DSLR camera... think again. But then again, you're never going to get the manual focus capabilities from a point and shoot that you get from a DSLR. Period. So in a way, you can't fault Kodak for giving it their all.
The wide angle is nice, but I wish it were wider (the Z980 takes it to 26mm, this one clocks in at 28mm)
The battery life is respectable, especially for the zoom you get, but I wish they would have included a separate charger so you didn't have to charge the battery IN the camera (I already ordered one).
Another thing? For this price you get an HD camcorder (it can zoom while filming). Yes, the quality isn't the best, but it's still in high resolution, and better than any other digital camera movie mode I've ever used... and it's still CHEAP. Forget buying that HD camcorder (I'm selling mine now), and just use this.

    The bottom line:
For the beginner to intermediate photographer, this thing is going to take care of almost, if not all, of your needs. Beyond intermediate, you have to start considering the compromises you're going to be making for the price (but this is something anyone who has ANY photography skills should realize). This thing is CHEAP. Meaning that you could buy this just for the interim until you can afford a DSLR, and in the end really not lose much money, AND have a great point and shoot camera to use for more basic, everyday things. All in all, highly recommended.

Oh, except for FedEx. They've delivered TWO packages to me in a year and a half, and I've had issues both times. UPS? They've delivered every other package (and we're talking quite a few). How many problems? Zero.

  2. I have found this camera very easy to use and produces high quality pictures. Zoom feature is wonderful. Either LCD screen or viewfinder provide clear visualization.

  3. I have owned other Kodak cameras before this one. It is the same good quality and takes amazing photographs. For the money, you cannot beat the pictures - my 5 x 7 photos are flawless.

  4. This is a great camera for a person who wants a full featured camera at a reasonable price. The 15x zoom lens is fantastic and the image stabilization is a real asset. The view finder is also a big plus for those who don't want to only rely on the LCD. It is a larger camera. If you are looking for compact camera this isn't the one for you.

  5. Have had Kodak's & Canons. Prefer this Kodak Z 1015 to my Canon S5.
Each to learn. Large LCD Window. Colors are very natural.

  1. This camera is great. I got it for Christmas of 2008 (also at a Target Black Friday sale for $79.99) and I do not regret the purchase at all! I'm often amazed that my little camera can take such clear pictures and it's been very fun to have.

The shooting modes are great and the video is very clear. However, I've noticed then when I'm taking a video the camera lags bit. It's hard to describe, but when I move the camera it takes maybe 1/6 of a second to show the move on the screen. It hasn't been a problem for me at all and I really don't mind it, but I thought I should mention it.

Occasionally I end up with dark pictures, but most of the time that's due to the lighting conditions. No matter how expensive or amazing your camera is, you don't typically get good pictures in bad lighting. It's just a fact. The outdoor pictures are fantastic though.

I've had no problems with the battery life, and I don't really have to charge it all that often.

One thing that I don't like are the buttons on top of the camera. The flash button and power button are both small, and they both feel exactly the same so I often press the wrong button when trying to turn it on quickly. Again, not a huge problem, but worth mentioning I think.

All in all, this is a GREAT camera. I absolutely love it, and I'm sorry that other reviewers haven't had as great of an experience. I definitely recommend it and I would buy it again if given the chance.

  2. I bought it and began installing the software. It showed a message , you need small font. Well, I cant use small fonts. Well done Kodak

  3. We really preferred the Fuji we had before. This camera is difficult to see the image in daylight and difficult to download to computer.

  4. I just received this camera in the mail. It's so light and easy to use. Picture quality is amazing! Love the pink color! There is so much to do with this camera! I have had three digital cameras in my life and this is BY FAR my favorite!

I received it so fast too and I live on an island!

  5. For the cost, this is a good camera for taking a few pictures every now and then to capture a few memories. Its compact and easy to use. It is not going to give you high quality pictures though. It is almost impossible to take pictures of anything that is moving - i.e. children who can't stand still. I use this camera for pictures that I put on a digital picture frame.
