  1. I had two problems with this film when I used in conjunction with my DianaF+ that I don't have with other film providers: 1) The black backing makes it very difficult to see the frame number. It's easy to go past a frame, which wastes film. And 2) The film was difficult to wind. I don't know if that factor was the reason I had scratches on the developed film, but I suspect that it played a role.

  2. Purchased this three pack from Lomo's website (Amazon and elsewhere are cheaper). The first roll I shot had serious difficulty winding and the frame numbers are extremely difficult to see - even in good light. When loading the film on the spool for processing I noticed how flimsy it felt (verses Kodak film which is all I had processed at this point). Once I scanned the Lomo film I noticed a ton of scratches. This is in part due to my Lomo Diana F+ which seems to scratch about everything I've shot so far, but this roll was even worse. The resulting images where very contrasty and had a nice grain (maybe a little too much for 100). I liked the shots that turned out - some have an almost "vintage" or "classic" look to them.
The real issue I had is this - the other two rolls tore in the camera. After loading the film and advancing towards the first shot the paper backing ripped apart. This happened on one roll then on the other. I guess I could have attempted to use the film and advanced past the first shots - the fear of the whole roll having been exposed and potentially wasting time and losing images kept me from doing so.
Again the roll that turned out yielded some great contrasty and grainy images reminiscent of old school black and white photography. I am not buying any more of this film based the lack of frame number visibility and the fact that the other two rolls ripped apart in the camera.

  1. Good price, compared to local vendors. The Lomographic Holga Starter Kit a good package for getting into Holga style photography. Many creative technics described in the "World through a plastic lens" booklet included with the kit.

  2. I love this thing. well, maybe I should wait til I develop the film first.

  3. Buying a Holga is like a box of chocolates "you'll never know what you are gonna get". My Holga broke a long time ago so I bought a new one. This one seems harder to get a good picture. The plastic lens seems a bit blurry. :/ This is due to the fact that every Holga is different. Be sure and take about 3 rolls and to tests with all of the settings before you waste a lot of film trying to figure it out.

  4. I love it a lot!

I just picked up a fisheye lens and the photos are amazing.

Favorite attribute would have to be the color flash <3333

  5. I bought this for my wife for Christmas, and she's had so much fun with it. The creativity she's come up with is terrific.

  1. The film was already outdated when I got it, will not order from this vendor again.

  2. It is close to impossible to get Polarooid film and i need it for work- thanks to you I got some;-)

  3. I got my non-photographic boyfriend a Polaroid camera last year for Christmas, and we found that he had undiscovered talent!

Since then, I have periodically bought him 3, 4, or 5 packs of film. This is the fastest I have ever gotten any of the film I ordered. He was able to take pictures on the weekend trip that I irresponsibly waited until the last minute to order film for. Thanks for making up for my short-comings!

  4. I'm guessing that the Polaroid film will make a comeback. I used to by this film at CVS for a lot less than $38.95.
I'm hoping it does make a comeback even though it was bought out.

  5. I was so excited to find this film because I went to numerous camera stores and could not find the film for my camera! Quick shipment too!

  1. This camera is definitely a one-of-a-kind! I have loved every shot taken with the Holga, although sometimes I forget to secure the backing on with tape so my pictures become ruined (I easily drop things). However, this camera is extremely durable considering the amount of times I have accidentally sent it crashing to the ground! The film is expired, which makes it a little on the expensive side to order/ship/print and only one camera shop within a 20 mile radius of me develops such film. Getting a roll of 12 shots developed usually costs me about $9, sometimes even $13. I recently made my own 35mm converter for the Holga (a lot more convenient and inexpensive than 120mm) and the shots are AMAZING. The character this camera has (pictures and camera itself) is remarkable and definitely worth every penny!

  2. God I love this camera. It's ugly, cheaply made, and completely unpredictable, but for an amateur like me, just realizing the joys of photography, it was exactly what I needed. Like other reviewers here, I too had gotten a bit bored with my mid-range digital camera, and invested the low, low fee of ~$60 in this little creature. I had read it could be frustrating and disappointing, but I have experienced neither emotion since becoming its owner. I have almost entirely stopped using my digital, and a 35mm SLR that is also a great camera... this one is just so much more fun.

The only drawback is the price and inconvenience of film/development. Try to buy in bulk, and get film developed only - not printed. It'll only cost about $2-3 a roll, and you can then scan the negatives (another investment, but if you see film in your future...) or print them yourself. But honestly, it's worth it. I'm so excited every time I get a roll back from the developers I can hardly wait, and I'm seldom disappointed. If you can appreciate the strange, beautiful way the Holga views the world, and not expect it to produce high fidelity images, you can't go wrong.

  3. This Camera is Amazing & Cheap. Just a few comments about its packaging, i love to see some improved package on this with some colorful booklet and manuals. The rest is fine, the camera itself, Holga delivers dreamy Lomo Image.

  4. The world of photography has changed so dramatically over the last 6-7 years that its honestly hard to put it into words. For the average person digital photography is a welcome advance in technology. No longer having to buy film, being able to see the end picture immediately, being able to make prints on your home computer, being able to shoot with your cell phone, etc.. There are really a hundred and one reasons why most people love digital photography.

There is another side to this coin however as there are those out there that do not like digital or what it has done to the entire field of photography over the last 5-10 years. I am one of those people. I absolutely love photography. Its not only my single favorite hobby, its also how I make my living. Its the entire process that I fell in love with, not just the end result. The loading of the film, the limited number of pictures per roll of film, the printing in a darkroom and most importantly the seemingly limitless creative aspects of film itself. There are so many things that you can do to alter the look of the film or print and I am sorry but running your picture through a filter in photoshop doesn't even begin to compare. The end result may appear similar but the process that got you there couldn't possibly be more different. I love the processes just as much as I do the end result and digital just doesn't even begin to compare.

Anyways this is where camera's like the Holga and Diana come in. These are camera's for people who are in love with film and the different looks that film can give you. These are sometimes referred to as toy cameras however that does not take anything away from these cameras or their ability to take pictures. I have been using a Holga for over 10 years and I can tell you first hand that if you take the time to master these cameras, you can take absolutely stunning pictures. You don't need 20 MegaPixels and a Carl Zeiss lens to shoot amazing pictures. In fact you dont even need a lens if your shooting with a pinhole camera.

Its nice to see that there are still people out there shooting with these kinds of cameras. There are even some that have given up shooting digital and come back to film. My hats off to those people because film is still where its at with photography. As for myself, I still shoot film 99% of the time and My Holga and Diana go pretty much everywhere I go. At around 40.00, you don't have much to lose in regards to trying them out.

    5 stars!

  5. Okay, so basically for a year I was looking at toy cameras. At first I wanted a lomographic pink Diana clone. I talked to a friend of mind, who is a big photographer, and I asked him about lomography and holga. He had a holga 120N (without flash). I tried his Holga with a few rolls of film. The pictures were interesting. I was hooked. So I begged my dad to buy me a 120CFN. My dad is not set on toy cameras and film photogaphy. I bought a 120CFN in gold on eBay (came with extras like filters, filter holder, frame/masks). It was well worth it. The color rolls I have done are amazing with flash, especially color flash. Color flash is just plain fun. The pictures are hard to match with a digital camera and photshop. Do buy a Holga and try it out. The first two rolls may not be pretty, but it's fun to take photos with this camera.

  1. Brought a disposable camera in my carry on on a recent trip to cozumel. Worst fears were confirmed when all the pictures came back black because of the xray machine at the airport. Had time to then pick up this camera and fire off all the photos in one dive and get them back to a one hour photo place before flying again. The photos came out better than expected. I took the camera all the way to 80ft where it didnt work because of the pressure but at least it didnt leak! It then worked again after coming back up to about 35ft. Highly recommend not purchasing the camera until you get to where your going if you have to fly!

  2. Bought this little camera for snorkeling in the Caribbean. Some photos came out pretty good, but in general photos were not super clear. However, am glad to have some memory shots. You might be better renting a real waterproof camera designed for underwater photo taking. If not, this camera is better than nothing, and my advice is to have at least two for your underwater adventures (buy before you go!).

  3. I used this at the beach with one of my friends during the summer. Taking photos were easy, and with the camera in the case, we were able to take pictures without worrying about the film, not to mention toss the camera around (or chase after it after getting buffeted by the waves- the camera floats)

When developing the photos, they came out slightly blurry (even the ones on the ground) and the colors seemed pale and washed out. While I haven't used film cameras in a while, I'm still positive that the color quality is much higher than what we achieved.

Then again, you get what you pay for- and it's not many digital cameras that you can take into an ocean and walk back out of it with your photos. For the price we paid, we're just glad we still have the memories.

  4. We purchased these for our gift bags for a wedding because we were going on a Caribbean Cruise. Everyone loved them.

  5. Easy to use, good clear pictures, results better than expected. We used them snorkling in Grand Cayman where the water was very clear. We took pictures at depths between the surface and 15 feet. The best pictures were taken when the sun was shining as it made it brighter under water. I was surprised how well the pictures came out even when pictures were taken when it was cloudy. The only thing that was a bit strange was that you don't hear a "click" sound when the picture is taken. You push the lever down until it stops and then wonder "did I actually get the picture?" or "what part of the picture did I get?" because we took a lot of motion pictures i.e. someone or fish swimming and wondered if the target was centered in the middle of the frame. Scenic pictures above the water came out very clear too. I would definately buy this brand again.

  1. Like so many others who purchased the Fuji mini instant camera, I ordered the wrong size film based on Amazon's suggestion. I purchased 2 cameras and lots of extra film for my daughters. Now, I'm stuck with the hassle of returning the film to two different vendors and then acquiring the proper film so that we may finally try the cameras. After so many comments regarding this issue, I'm disappointed to see that Amazon has not corrected this mistake and that the regular size film is still being paired with the mini camera.

  2. I purchased this camera a few months ago, and I love it. It's fun and easy to use. It is well-designed to fit your hand, and the shape and color give a modern elegance and simplicity to an "old-fashioned" concept. However, it is not a substitute for a digital camera which I also own and use. This is a speciality camera for instant prints.

Read the specs carefully on this product, so that you know what you would be getting if you choose to buy one. The pictures are about the size of a credit card. The camera uses a specific film type of Fuji film that is available on various websites (and probably in stores, although I get mine online so I don't really know about that). It is a little noisy when it shoots a picture, but in my opinion, no more so than the bulky, old-fashioned ones that are no longer available.

I lamented when these types of cameras disappeared from the market, and I am so happy that I have one again. It's swell!

  3. I got this camera for christmas and I love it. I take this camera everywhere and have had a lot of fun with it.
The colors are great and the few setting that it has for exposure have so far worked out great for me.
I would definitely recommend getting it.

  4. Apparently I didn't read the reviews when I ordered this product & the "recommended" film because I too ordered the wrong film (which by the way states on it's package that it can be used for the "FUJIFILM INSTAX CAMERA ONLY". Why there are two different Fuji Film Instax cameras is besides me...they should have made ONE with the option of using different size films. Duh!

I've already opened my film package because I had NO CLUE there was a difference. Now what?

    So very, very disappointing Amazon.

  5. This little baby is dynamite. Very cool design. Lots of fun to use, and the pictures are quite nice. The format (size) of the pictures is very unique and become a conversation topic. Having grown up in the age of Polaroids, this is a nice comeback.
The downside is the the film is quite expensive (as instant film has always been), a little over $1 a shot.
As an aside, I posted comments in OCTOBER on this product and said that the film recommended was not the correct size and appeared to be as yet unavailable from Amazon. Where did that go? It could have saved many irritating and disappointing moments for customers, many of whom wrote in the recent weeks to complain about this exact issue!

  1. We received two notices, 4 weeks apart, that the product was out of stock so we cancelled the order.

  2. i already own a pack, but i decided that everything in my house that needs batteries should have eneloop. they charge quickly and they last forever

  3. We are talking about rechargeable batteries. I am using the first one, and it works well with my Yamaha Pocketrak G-2 as an eneloop replacement. It works well so far but I have no idea how long it will work. But it is just a battery, what can happen?

  4. ENELOOP is one GR8 product!!!; easy to use, reliable, energy efficient, REUSABLE - helps protect leeching of metals via landfills into soil and ground water.

WHY ANYONE WOULD AVOID USING THIS IS BEYOND ME!!!

  5. I have been using these for several monthes now and these are absolutely wonderful batteries.
I do not use them heavily so they need to last for a longer period of time; and they do. I put a set in my camera in October (before a vacation) and did not change until 12/25/09(just because I didn't want them to go out during Christmas pictures). I had taken about 120 pictures at that point and they were still going.
I highly recommend this brand over the two major name brand rechargables (no contest).

  1. In an era when cameras are getting more and more complicated, when the upgrade cycle means built-in obsolescence for digital cameras within a year or two, when the emphasis is on increasingly incomprehensible "menus" of digital options, and mind-numbing hours playing with Photoshop, along comes the antidote in the most unlikely form: a cheap plastic camera that has virtually no controls, no settings, no predictability whatever. Welcome to the world of Holga. These delightful cameras bring the fun back to photography. All the features that one cannot get in even the most expensive cameras such as light leaks, severe vignetting, lack of sharp focus, accidental double exposures, and light weight are here! What other camera company makes flashes designed to severely tint the image in yellow or red glows? And of course, the sensor is film! No need to worry about ultrasonic cleaning of CCDs, CMOS, or any other electronic material. Each shot gets its very own sensor. Not satisfied that the light leaks are intense enough? No problem. Just make a tiny hole somewhere in the body! The images are unique and immediately recognizable as being from a Holga (even if the subject is totally unrecognizable). This is post-modern photography at its finest.

  2. These cameras are very artistic and unpredictable(in a very good way). I get great results with them. They are fun and easy to use. You should deffinatly buy one if you are interested in photography. They are must have. And this company is the best. Overall a great camera for artistic photographers or students wanting to experiment with the camera.

  3. So much fun. Highly recommend this product especially for all photographers because these toy cameras are inexpensive and offer so much: blurry pics, light leaks, multiple exposures, oh my!!!

  4. This buy was one of the smartest decisions I've made. It's a great camera for stepping outside of the ordinary and expected. Every shot is an experiment in light, focus and personal style. I love my Holga and would greatly suggest one to a curious photographer, amateur or professional.

  5. I bought this camera to play around with in addition to my digital camera and am pleased with it thus far. It's a cheap quality camera so it feels like a toy more than a real camera when you are shooting pictures. It does have light leaks that can produce a unique vignetting effect or can completely wash out the photos. Because of this and the uniqueness of the manufacturing, it can come up with some pretty unpredictable results! If you don't like the effect, it's simple to tape up the sides of the camera. It can use 35 mm film if you adjust the insides a bit, but it usually uses a 120 medium format film. Depending on where you live, it might be hard to find a specialty photography shop to develop your film. It doesn't come with a flash, but this can be bought separately. You can't adjust the focus or the shutter speed either. Since you manually turn the film after each exposure, you can do a neat layering effect on each photo. You can also add color filters to try different effects. It's an interesting camera to experiment with. You won't be able to see the picture immediately after taking it, the same as any film camera. There are other medium format cameras that produce more reliable results, but I recommend this camera for beginners. Also, the picture quality can't compare with digital, but for as cheap as it is, it's worth it if you're interested in some fun pictures. I've only developed one roll of film so far and only three pictures turned out, so I'm not sure if it's the photo shop I went to or if I overexposed the film. They turned out pretty cool, though. They had a kind of pinhole camera quality.
