5 comments about Nikon D50 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).
  1. This camera takes great photographs, and after two years of taking it everywhere with me, I don't have a single complaint. Though it should be noted that getting the best results from this camera may occasionally required an incredibly steady hand(no image stabilizer) and a pretty in depth technical understanding (lots of manual features).

  2. I bought this back in 2005 when it was under a grand including two lens that comes with this stuff, funny how the price doubled considering how you can purchase the higher end model for the same price. I like the quick reloading time, this camera can also use the Nikon SB 600 flash, which is great for extra lighting and creative lighting techniques like bounce flah to give a more natural lighting. If you look at SB 600, it says it's for D 70 models but you can use it on this model also.

  3. I am selling my D50 600 flash and long range Nikon lens. The battery that came with my D50 was defective causing all kinds of weird behavior. By the time Nikon had a recall I had already bought after market. The 600 flash over came its inability to take indoor photos. Still my D50 would regularly lock up and not allow me to get a shot especially in lighting conditions and indoors. By the way the flash would not work initially due to poor battery electrical contact (please look at your plating process)
My brother also bought a D50 similar problems. Only difference he bought an Olympus to fix the problem and I bought a Fuji F31fd.
I trusted Nikon because I always had great luck with your cameras in the past. Bought the flash and extra lens to try to address the problem and looked like an idiot in front of my new wife by sending good money after bad; so no more Nikon for me probably going to buy a Fuji S100fs unless some one can recommend one of their other competitors camera. My brother favors Olympus. Sorry to say that the D50 is the worst camera I have ever had even though it shot a few beautiful outdoor shots.

  4. The Nikon D50 is no longer in production, but you can find them used online. This is a great camera. They say it's a beginner camera, but it has almost every feature someone that's been shooting for a while would need. Specifically, a dedicated button for ISO and White Balance give you easy access to two thing I commonly use. Only thing I wish it had was a Black and White mode and an illuminated display on top. Other than that, a great great camera.

  5. I have the D50 for 2 1/2 years now. I am still loving it. I also tested my friend's D40. In my opinion, it beats D40 on every count except the D40's bigger LCD and color histogram. D50 is a photographer camera and D40 is a consumer camera. Nikon is right. D40 sells like hotcakes. I buy D50 over D40 if I am buying an entry level camera today.

  1. I love this camera, it photographs great, it has great lenses. Now the great thing about this camera is that you can pick the types of photographic scenes you'll be taking in automatic setup or you can customize scene exposures and other photography features like in the oldschool 35mm cameras did such as so you can get streak in lights and other effects that the old film cameras were able to do. The pictures come out superbly.

The only negetive I have to say is, the manual could use a little improvement and their is a sound when you photograph that's it. If you can live with those two faults, then its an awesome camera to get.

    Merry x-mas

  2. This camera is well worth every penny. I shoot mostly wildlife and landscape photograpy and both my Zuiko 14-45mm and 40-150mm lenses see plenty of action. The 14-45 is a great all purpose lense that doubles both as a semi-wide angle and a short Telescopic lens. The 40-150 is a short tele that performs as it is supposed to.
Picture quality is the best I have had yet out of a camera. This is my third olympus camera for this reason alone because in the long run this is what matters most.
I compared this to the equivalent Canon, Nikon and Minolta Cameras and am glad i make this choice. The lens kit is superior, the battery life is nearly eternal (I have taken approx 3000 shots and recharged the battery only 3 times), and the camera is very durable.
Olympus also upgraded its software package that has been greatly improved from their previous software.
All in all, this is a steal for the price, especially since the E330 is now on the market.

  3. I bought this camera in September of 2005. In the last year and a half it has served me very well. I have taken 7500 pictures and the camera is going strong! I have taken pictures in all settings, light and dark, bright light and shadow, and the photos turn out nicely. Very little editing is required, if any, to have a great looking shot.

    Pros:
    -Solid, aluminum body
    -Strong built-in flash
    -Great picture quality
    -Easy to use menu
-Both lenses perform well. Both focus quickly and the zoom on both is smooth and performs almost to perfection.
-Battery life is superb. Even when using the flash I have gotten over 500 shots on a single charge. Up to 850 without the flash.
-Manual mode is easy to switch to and works well.
-The many different scene modes come in handy.
-There are many different picture quality settings that allow you to fine tune to just the exact setting you want.
-ISO 100-400 provide great shots, 800 is slightly noisy, and 1600 (with noise reduction) is okay, but almost unusable unless you absolutely have to have a shot.
-I have used the camera to take 350 consecutive shots, just holding the shutter button, and I had no problems with buffering. That worked flawlessly.

    Cons:
-Occasionally the camera will have problems focusing in very dark situations (almost night) and the flash will strobe to find an object to focus on. I personally turn this feature off and usually focusing is okay.
-I'm not very impressed with the Olympus Camedia software; therefore, I don't use it unless I am updating the firmware for the camera. Windows XP handles the camera just fine and that it was I use for transferring images.
-Limited availability of aftermarket lenses and flashes. They are available, but are over-priced.

Overall, I have been very impressed with the camera. You can not beat to quality of the pictures and camera for the price. I have used both the Nikon D70 and Canon 20D and I prefer the Olympus over them both. The build quality of the Olympus far outweigh both of the others. I would recommend this camera to anyone interested in a digital SLR!

  4. I was very exctied to receive this item, as it was a valentines day gift for my wife, until she tried to use it, so far its been in twice for repair for the same problem, the lenses will not focus. I'm not sure if this is the fault of the manufaturer or not, but I am giving the store the benefit of the doubt and giving them 5 stars, this is for price of this item, and the quickness in which I received it.

  5. Fantastic camera. I've been able to take some great shots with this baby and have had no problems. I'm using PNY Optima Pro 2GB CompactFlash 133X (20MB/Sec Read/Wrte Speed) Flash Memory Card P-CF2GB-133W-DVDC for memory (About 950 pics on HQ) and my time between shots is less than a sec. I don't even notice anytime between shots really. I've has some fun using OM1 lens with this body thanks to the Olympus OM Lens to Olympus 4/3 System Camera Body Adapter, if your interested in using an OM lens with the 4/3 body let me tell you it works beautifully. Battery last really long I've been taking between 300-600 shots a day on the one battery and still had tons of juice left. [...] Ease of use is great with only a small learning curve. I highly recommend looking at Olympus when it come time to buy a DSLR and the E-300 is def a fav of mine.

  1. The E-500 is my first DSLR. I have owned it for about two years. Overall, the camera is not too bad for what it is, but you need deep pockets for any upgrades. Also, the kit lenses are soft (fuzzy). Later, you will find out that the "high grade" upgrade lens are soft, too. This camera is about the same level as the Canon Xti. If you have ever dreamt about learning professional photography, go with Canon or Nikon and forget about this camera.

  2. I have been using SLR cameras for 30 years and have had a digital camera since they came out on the market, most will last at least 5 years. This thing began to break a week after I got it. The second time I removed the compact flash card two of the pins came with it which rendered the slot useless, fortunately the XD slot was still functioning. One week after the waranty expired the thing stopped working completely.
The pictures were ok but nothing to brag about, my little Casio Exilim takes much better pictures than the Olympus ever took in any mode and it only cost $ 150 that was $ 500 less than the Olympus.
Get a Fuji S700 or a sony DSC H5 they give professional results and require no expensive special batteries or cards. Both offer manual and automatic settings which work great and are simple to use for the beginner or the professional and both are under $ 250.

  3. At the time I bought this camera, it was at the end of its product life. The E-510 had just come out and was selling for more than a $300 premium over the E-500. Yes, the E-510 has a better pixel count and image stabilization. But I just couldn't pass up the relative bargain of the E-500. It's a very satisfying camera. Very good picture quality, good lenses, decent manual (considering the complexity of digital SLRs, a good manual is a necessity) and light weight.

My one complaint is the lack of a usable remote trigger. I have the infrared remote and it's really only useful for taking pictures of yourself as it must be aimed at the lens side of the camera. I like to take shots of birds at my bird feeder using a tripod and this remote is useless for this purpose.

  4. OK, so I'm not a professional photographer (not for lack of desire or talent, mind you!). I'm actually very much the novice when it comes to camera equipment, but I'm learning. I've had one form of camera or another since the age of 7, though, and I know what I like.

I got my Evolt 500 kit from my husband, Christmas 2007. This is my first GOOD camera and I'm wondering how I ever got along without it! I love the image quality I'm getting. I love the ease of use. I love the feel of it and, as I saw someone else write, the very satisfying sound of the shutter-click!

I realize I still have much to learn about cameras and all of the bells and whistles that go with them, but I would absolutely recommend this camera to other beginning, aspiring photographers. I'm having a blast with it! By all means, this baby gets Five-plus stars from me.

  5. I picked up this kit at Sam's Club a couple of months ago as a used camera for $200, and I couldn't be happier. The camera works wonderfully and takes marvelous pictures. For the everyday walking around camera, this kit completes your needs.

  1. Best Camera I have ever used. Simply the best in this price range.

  2. In the camera world, we are probably considered dinosaurs as we have been very skeptical about the possibly of upgrading to a Digital Canon SLR from a Canon film SLR. But we finally did and purchased a XTI 10.1MP.

First our concerns about the upgrade:

Our prior experience with digital cameras has not been very positive. We purchased 2 years ago a 5 MP Nikon Coolpix and it was terrible. The software was terrible and the shutter speed was just plain awful. We never used it and almost always reverted back to our Canon 35MM SLR.

A friend of ours visited two weeks ago and she had a Nikon Digital SLR camera and took tons of pictures of our children like a pro. I was amazed at the quality of her pictures and was even more amazed when two weeks later, she sent me a published quality picture book of pictures that she took of our children. For people that are just getting into to digital photography, there are web sites that will publish a full color 20 page book (can put multiple pictures on one sheet) for $40 including shipping.

The day I got her book was the day, I decided that I was going to get a digital SLR camera too.

Since her Nikon was so great, we debated about whether we should give Nikon another try or stick with Canon. Since we personally have had good luck with Canon and had compatible lens we decided to go with the Canon.

We LOVE OUR CANON XTI. It is extremely easy to use and takes awesome quality pictures. The software works great and though I've only had the camera for less than a week, I've already published one book.

    I highly recommend this camera.

  3. They didn't respond to my e-mails but got what I want and expected. Nice deal.

  1. Hello, The Camera is great, but if you buy it from Amazon and it breaks, Pentax doesn't accept invoice from Amazon as proof of a warrantieable product. So basically amazon is trying to sell you an unwarrantied product.

If you want it, go buy it somewhere else.

  2. For those who know their camera models I'm an old school photographer - my first SLR was the v.basic Zenit E and my last SLR before owning a Pentax K10D was a trusty (but basic) Nikon FM. I did move on with the times though and have been digital for a while now with my (brick sized) Canon G2 compact.

The K10D is a well made, robust camera and that is what is important IMO - the slight differences between the K10D and its SLR rivals from Canon, Nikon & Olympus etc are unimportant - ALL these brands make a cameras that 99.8% won't be restricted by whatever their photograpy.

SLR camera spec is pretty much at an overkill level now - anything from the big brands in the last couple of years is going to be good. So my advice would be "see the wood from the trees" & don't worry about spec. Critically good photographs will come from you and your imagination rather than what brand or model of SLR you own.

The Pentax K10D has recently been replaced by the K20D and hence the basement price ..., so bag yourself a bargain now and let others worry about whether a 3fps or 3.5fps rapid shooting mode is a critical factor in the decision making process.

  3. I love the ruggedness of this camera. it is very solid and feels much better in hand than at least the Cannon Rebel Digital. It is heavier but I like that.

The features and functions are great. This is my first DSLR and I am by no means even a novice photographer. The main reason for the purchase was to get better night time pictures since the Point and Shoot cameras do such a horrible job, but this does not do a better job with the built in flash. I imagine getting a good flash for it will make a huge difference.

I paid extra to get this camera over Cannon and Nikon of similar pixel because it comes with much better features overall, so price per function/feature is much better IMHO. I have NOT experienced the blurriness that other users talk about with the JPG pictures, but I have noticed that the pictures in general are not as bright as should be.

There are alot of postings on how to change the settings to fix that but I have not tried it yet.

No regrets...specially since the price has been going up since I bought it.

  4. I don't want to get into any technical stuff on this camera. You can find it [...] website. This is a very nice camera to own, but make sure you buy a quality lens with it. I have had this camera for almost a year now, and I still love it.

    HN

  5. With the proper lens this camera can do everything that the big boys like Nikon and Canon can do! It has so many features sometimes I have to get the manual out to remember how to use them! Its fast, sturdy, waterproof and takes great shots! I've printed out some photos so far up to 8x10 size and they are as crisp as you can get and that is using the stock 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. I have yet to purchase a quality prime lens to test but if the stock lens does this good, I have no worries. Since I already owned a previous Pentax SLR some of the lenses I already had worked with this camera so that is a bonus feature and part of the reason I went with this camera. This camera will function as a point and shoot but I would not recommend this to a complete amateur.
