  1. Love this camera, Sharp pictures, easy to use, tough, a feature for every situation if you chose to get fancy. Recharagable battery lasts long and charges quick. Negs would be: slight delay between button pressed and pic taken, but seems this is common at this price range. Had it 2 years and taken 4000 pictures.

  2. If you get to know this camera you'll get excellent pictures. I use to have an SLR camera and I haven't use it since I bought this one. By the way I have like 4 years and it is in excellent conditions since

  3. Bought this about 3 years ago and have been very happy with it.

  4. I've owned this camera for about 4 years and have had great success with it. As other reviewers have stated, the lag time in capturing an image is a major issue - but when I bought this camera - it was state of the art. For that reason I've upgraded to the Sony DSC-V3 which has practically no lag time - it's great for capturing pictures of my grand-daughter as she zips through the family room.

The S75 has been a great camera - aside from the lag time the only other problem I've had is while reviewing images in play back mode, sometimes it will take off with itself uncontrolably scanning through all of the pictures on the stick - very annoying.

I'm giving the S75 to my college graduate so can take pictures while traveling on his new job.

  5. I received my Sony Cybershot in 2001 for Christmas. It is now just about 5 years later and my Sony Cybershot is still functioning wonderfully and I have put a lot of miles on that camera! Really good sound quality, really great photos, lots of features... I'm still learning new ones! And what an awesome price. If this one ever breaks down and needs replacing, I wouldn't mind purchasing the exact same one. I do realize there are cameras out there with many upgrades and higher prices, but seriously... this camera does just what I need.

  1. Superb point and shoot camera, bright and colorful pictures, excelent movie mode (with zooming and sound), but on November 2007 begins with the "flickering lcd screen" and about a week later no image, no photo, no nada (nothing), i was able to review my taken photos and movies but i can't take new pictures, i was a victim of the infamous CCD problem for this model, you can read about it at :

    http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

there under the "Canon" section you can find this little Gem (what a pity and waste of money).

  2. I bought this camera with my then-boyfriend to backpack across Europe with for the summer of '05, and it was, with a few exceptions, perfect for the situation. It was worth the extra 3 pounds given the options of the smaller point and shoots that year, especially with the 10x zoom. Our outdoor shots were phenomenal, and though it's very tricky to get a good shot in low-light situations without a flash - which I'm not really a fan of using - we got some very good shots at night and indoors. The 3.2 mp is deceivingly awesome as well, I've been able to make beautiful poster-size prints out of many shots!! I wouldn't buy it again because there are more improved point-and-shoots available now, but there are some features that rival even the performance of some of today's camera's.

I've heard of the fabled "E18 error" with these Canon models, and complaints of various problems from poor build quality, but this thing survived in top condition through being tossed around in our hiking backpacks for two months; trains, taxis, long treks on foot, camping, and even a moped tour. It took a fair amount of knocks without problems, and is still working great 2 1/2 years later.

My only complaints are the sluggish, sometimes 2-second delay response of it's picture taking (which is helped by depressing the shutter button halfway to give time for the autofocus to figure things out), it's less than awesome performance with action shots, and the aforementioned difficulty with low-light. Other than that, I'm sorry that my ex-boyfriend got custody of it!

  3. I purchased this camera in Oct 2004. In January 2008 the viewfinder went blank (dark) no picture. Before this, it had a few pictures with lines through them (distorted). I did not purchase this camera from Amazon. This camera worked great for me and took really good pictures, but I am very disappointed that it would break just a little over 3 years old. It should last longer than this. I carried it back to the store where I had purchased it, because I had the service plan. After 3 weeks, they called and told me they would do an exchange because they could not get the parts to fix it. I did like this camera but it is just a shame that it does not last long.

  4. I bought my S1 IS in 2005 from a brick & mortar store. It traveled across half the globe with me and took exceptional pictures. Often, I was amazed at the crispness and color of the pictures. I also LOVE the underwater case, and have used it in a few 'all-weather' conditions (including sand). Sadly, near the end of 2007, my screen started getting purple lines across it. It seemed like a once in a while occurrence, but in Feb of this year, it completely blacked-out. Of course this had to happen one week before my son turned 1yo. I was an avid picture taker, from traveling, scenery and animals, to 3-20 pictures a day of the (almost) first year of my son's life.

I absolutely loved this camera. It was the PERFECT compromise between a simple point & shoot and a very expensive digital SLR. It takes amazing pictures, has a VERY strong flash (which is a little slow to recharge), and not too bulky. I will for sure buy the latest version after saving some money, since I already have the waterproof case. In the meantime, I am going to try-out an SD800.

Having been my first digital camera (I am a lover of old school SLR's, and really wanted a digital SLR, but didn't have $1K to shell out just for the body) I had no idea what a reasonable lifespan for these cameras should be. But I guess 2.5-3 years isn't very good. It is frustrating & reasuring that others have encountered the same problem with this model. However, I don't see the logic in paying for repairs when that could cost me close to the price of the camera itself (I think I paid around $350).

My S1 IS is severely missed... but hopefully soon upgraded :)

  5. I bought this camera way back in 2004. I took it on numerous trips, Thailand, Bombay and of course I used it at home as well...

It gave fantastic service, I took some really great photos all over. I had trouble iwth it once, when I had to take it into Canon repair for the pop up flash, which wouldn't pop up.

Apart from that, nary a complaint. (Being a novice photographer, I guess I wasn't too demanding to begin with).

About six months ago, the LCD/EVF conked off... I would get a haze and then later I would get a line and black screen. The first few weeks I was in denial. It can't happen to me etc. and then I was too busy to take it in for repair. I was to go on another overseas trip, so I finally decided to get the camera fixed and handed it into canon.

I was told, that the parts to fix are not being made any more. My first reaction as... oh crap.

BUT, they replaced this camera with Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP 12X FREE of charge.

Thank You Canon! I need to buy a Point and Shoot. No prizes for guessing, which brand of camera I'm going for...

  1. I love how sleek/slender this bag is - no bulk like typical bags. I'm not fond of the "adjustable inserts", but overall its a great bag.

  2. Perfect fit for my Nikon D80 with 135mm lens (attached) and video/charging cords, with little space left over.

Pros: Comfortable to carry and looks like a normal messenger bag in case you don't want everyone around you to know that you're a tourist. Lots of little compartments, and good rain protection. Velcro flap is great for getting stuff in and out quickly without having to use the front clip. In the front storage compartment, it can carry a bill fold and a few other odds and ends easily so I can leave my purse at home.

Cons: Could use a bit more padding And I still have no idea what the back flap is for. I will probably be sewing a bottom to it so it can be a functional pocket.

Overall, I would buy this type of bag again.

  3. It's a good item. I used it for my new D300+17-55/2.8, and it still have space for another lens(ex. 85/1.4). Shipping is not fast but still ok. If you have 70-200/2.8 lens, you might be hope a bigger bag.

  4. I absolutely love this bag. I had a conspicuous camera bag before and I was looking for something more subtle but still functional. This bag very roomy and the reconfigurable compartment pads are convenient for customizing it. There are lots of little pockets for storage of misc stuff. I was concerned that as a single strap sling-type bag it would be awkward to carry while riding a bike, but it's perfectly fine. Bottom line is that the bag looks good, works great, is inconspicuous as a camera bag, and is on the cheaper side of the spectrum. It's a great buy and I would definitely get it again.

  1. It was a great camera for the week that I owned it. My camera was stolen a week from which I received it, so I can not give much of a review sorry.

  2. I am crazy about this camera! I am NOT a professional photographer, but I've got to say, I take GREAT pictures with this camera. Very easy to use, small, compact, and takes good video.

  3. This is a great camera for the amateur, its small and has excellent features, nice big screen. Highly recommend it.

  4. I love this camera. The screen is big and clear. I've had it for 2 years and i still love it.

  5. I bought this camera because Consumer Reports rated it #1 for subcompact digital cameras. It was also only $299 here on Amazon.com (the price listed today is over $400). I have four criteria when it comes to a compact digital camera.

    1. It must have a fast response time, both when I turn it on and in between shots. This Sony Cybershot is AWESOME. It is literally on and ready to shoot within milliseconds of hitting the power button. There's also NO delay between shots, which has been the bane of all the digital cameras I've ever owned. The ability to go from shot to shot without worrying about missing a great action photo or having to twiddle my thumbs while it writes to the compact flash or smart disk is a god send.

    2. It must take GREAT shots in low lighting. I don't know how many crappy photos I've taken indoors at parties, museums, and more. I know we all have, even with those cameras that have 'indoor' modes but require a tripod to take a clear picture. Well, this baby takes absolutely stunning low light photos using ISO or ISO+ mode. They are clear and not at all blurry. Check out the photos I uploaded from a visit to a local aquarium in the Jelly Fish exhibit (where it's as dark as night in there). Not only did I NOT have to use a tripod to get a clear shot, but the photos came out rich in color and detail, especially considering this is not a DSLR.

    3. It must have several scene modes. I am addicted to these modes as they often save me from some very bad shots. I am clueless on how to set anything manually. This camera offers a nice selection of scene modes, my favorite so far being the ISO+ for low light, indoor settings. But the landscape, portrait, and other modes have all proved equally adept at clear, brilliant pictures.

    4. It must have a large LCD. My last digital camera had a 1.8" LCD and it was painfully small. I often couldn't tell that shots were out of focus until I imported them to my desktop. The Sony Cybershot has a vividly clear LCD that is large and bright, perfect for spotting bad shots on the spot. No more wondering if I've taken a good photo or not.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Sony Cybershot. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it only has 3X optical zoom, up to 6X with digital. My last digital camera had 12X with digital zoom, and it was disappointing to find that even though I was buying a higher end subcompact camera, the zoom was a bit on the skimpy side.

Nevertheless, I won't be using my old digital camera even with its 12X zoom because the Sony blows it out of the water in terms of picture quality, compactness, and speed.

  1. I am loving the quality of pictures on this camera. The pictures are beautiful. I also love the many different picture options available that are pre-programmed into the camera.

After about 4 months of use, the flash died while I was in Mexico on vacation. I heard a small pop right as I tried to take a picture. As it was under warranty, I sent the camera into Panasonic (I had to pay shipping) and they fixed it and sent it back in 2 weeks.

So, while I love practically everything about this camera, I worry that it is not durable enough to last a long time. I don't think I am too rough with it.

  2. I bought this camera about a month ago, so far it has been very good to me. It takes really nice quality photos. The battery lasts a really long time. I take pictures of pets a lot and its very hard to get one with them sitting still, and it's hard to use a flash because pets get really bad red-eye. But this camera has a specific setting for pets! There are so many different settings i haven't even discovered them yet. I think this camera could make anyone a great photographer. I totally recommend it.

  3. I recently purchased this camera through amazon. If I were to purchase again, I would probably choose the comparable Sony or Canon model. While I appreciated the Japanese quality of the camera, the performance left much to be desired: my first outing with the camera was to a high school dance that I had organized, and I could see nothing through the digital viewfinder--there is no standard window viewfinder--and this inability to see anything, mixed with focusing and color problems, led to horrible photos. I also found the camera's function controls, as well as the bundled software, to be very non-intuitive, with a large number of commands required for navigation. I do not recommend this camera for general purpose use, particularly among buyers who may wish to take photos in darker environments and/or do not want to spend great amounts of time reading and rereading the user's guide to ensure proper functioning of the camera.

  4. I had been very pleased with this camera until it suddenly developed oil spots on the interior of the lens. I was instructed by Panasonic to send it in for repairs. After 3 weeks I finally received my camera back in good working condition only to have the oil spots appear again two weeks later. At that point I requested a replacement but was informed by Panasonic that my only recourse was to continue to send it back for repairs. Unacceptable. I would strongly urge all considering this product, or any Panasonic product, to think long and hard before taking the plunge as, my experience has been that the company will not stand behind their product.

  5. This camera takes very good photos in the day, but awful photos at night. What I didn't like about this camera, is that you will need a tripod to take pictures if you are taking photos without flash or in an ambient with poor light, because your are going to get awful pictures.
When you take pictures and you watch them on the display, you think they look beautiful, but when you download to the computer, you will see that some are shaken.
Look for another camera. I am very sure that there are better than this one.

  1. This is a good starter camera for a kid. It's lightweight, and small enough to fit into a pocket. I was disappointed to discover that it doesn't have a flash, however, which limits the camera's use. That point isn't spelled out in the item description, so just be aware of that when considering this camera.

  2. Do not waste your money on this terrible camera. My grandson was so excited to see the Spiderman faceplates, but the is the ONLY thing this camera has going for it, and he couldn't even get one to stay on anyway.
the viewfinder is so small you can't see through it. (No view screen), the camera is so lightweight it couldn't possibly last a day of picture taking with some five year olds!!!! The directions were hard even for grandpa or dad to figure out, let alone my grandson. Confusing!!!! Please look elsewhere for a camera for your children. This one is a HUGE disappointment and I took it back the day after Christmas. Still looking for a DECENT kids digital.

  3. You get what you pay for. I thought all digital cameras had a view screen but this one does not. My kids played with it five minutes and there it lies on the bottom of the toy box. Without the view screen, it just is no fun.
