5 comments about D70 Digital Camera (Body Only).
  1. My first DSLR was a Nikon D100. The D100 was a marvel at the time, one of the first affordable DSLRs, but when the D70 came out, I bought one. The D70 is the camera that the D100 should have been, with much improved placement of controls, and menus that were much improved in appearance (after a firmware upgrade). I've taken several thousand photos with the D70, and some of them have won contests with nice prizes. For the current price, I doubt if there's a better bargain to be had.

I recently bought a Nikon D200, but I'll definitely keep my D70 for a backup.

  2. The D70, especially since the d70s came out, is a bargain. I bought the D70 and upgraded the firmware (easy - see nikon website) and now have a D70s sans the .2 inch larger screen on the back.
I used to do freelance work and have boxes of nikon accessories to play with so I just bought the body. Only complaint? These new D-series cameras don't seem to like the old flash units. Oh, and when will Nikon go full frame so we don't have to deal with these small-sensor lens (or the conversion factor) and use our old proper film ones. Alas.

    Otherwise the D70 is perfect...
Light weight. Depth of field preview. Grid in the viewfinder. Instant on. Fast processing. The new built-in wireless "commander-mode" with the new flashes.
This camera is a joy to use.

  3. i had one of these: the d70 kit. i still have the 18-70mm lens from the kit but retired and sold the body. it was a wonderful companion. fast, incredible battery life, super quality images. the only camera better than this beast is the body that replaced it: a d80.

  4. It is easy to use. Believe it or not this is my back up camera to my Nikon N90s 35mm. It does everything the way its supposed to and does it without a problem. I bought it used this year in June. This is my first digital SLR. It isn't the best and I knew that when I bought it. I have no complaints. It is just a simple pro-sumer camera. I'd buy again.

  5. I bought this camera 3 years ago, and it worked beautifully until on a long trip in Yellowstone. After changing the memory card, the mirror locked up, as other posts mention, making the camera completely useless. Since I was past the warranty period, Nikon told me I would be charged, even though they had (have) a vague-enough-to-weasel-out-of service advisory out for this problem. The way the service works is to receive the camera, have a front desk monkey put it into a cost-to-repair category, which you must then authorize payment for before they will proceed to actually see what is wrong with the camera. When I asked how they knew what it would cost and why it wasn't covered under the service advisory when they didn't know what the specific problem was, they just told me they always hear the same complaint (should be a warning to them), but that's the way they'd always done it. I should have bought a Canon. Their service is well-known to be top-notch in the industry, and the cameras are good quality for a lower price. I highly recommend AGAINST Nikon, unless you're buying lenses and flashes.

  1. At first I was horribly disappointed with this camera. While the video was incredible, way too many of my stills were coming out blurry. I had upgraded from a 1.3 megapixel sony clunker, and was regretting it.

But over the next while, as I experimented more with the settings, I realized the problem wasn't the camera, it was me. This camera takes wonderful stills once you learn how to use it.

The settings I change from time to time are minor and take only a second or two, so it is easy to use on the spur of the moment.

This is a truly versatile camera, and one of the best buys I've ever made!

  2. I bought this since I wanted both videos and stills in one compact package. This camera does not disappoint. The videos are simply outstanding (in the best mode, of course). Get a tripod, and you can get amazing stills in some of the low-light settings too. I got some outstanding pictures of Washington by night.

The one BIG complaint I have is that as an amateur photographer with limited time to go through manuals or understand photography, this camera dos not do great with automatic settings (others have complained about this here). Which means if you do some work for about 2 hours trying to understand what everything means, you could get outstanding pictures. But the far less capable canons that I have used do a better job with point and shoot than this one. If you know and enjoy tweaking the setting for stills, and like taking some amazing videos in an ultra-small pacakge, this is it.
    What I like most:
You can directly watch movies from the camera on your TV with te included attachment (similar to most camcorders). And a 2 GB stick can take longer vidoes than a Mini DV. And occupies a lot less space.

  3. I purchased this camera just a week ago. I also purchased the fuji v10 which I loved as well. Both nice point and shoot features, BUT....the fuji when zoomed up pixelated ALOT. This camera taken the same picture you can zoom up to see the color of the eyes and no pixelation..it truly is amazing. Settings definitely make a difference so over the week and 1000 shots with both cameras later playing with them, I am in love with this camera and returned the other. The battery life seems much better, the video is totally amazing. I did find a case at compusa that fit perfect for 5 bucks with a belt clip. I purchased a 2 gb card for it and am in love with it. My husband is cracking up, can't even put it down during dinner....taking pics of the food! You will have alot of fun with this. My friends are all ewwwwing and ahhhing at it.

  4. Very nice camera with cool features and ease of use. the auto focus is a bit annoying but that's about it

  5. The sony cybershot is fairly easy to use as camera's go. This was my first "real" camera and in no time i was taking "PRO" shots. The way it opens up is a real "grabber " for me. The screen rotates "360" for easy self portraits.

  1. Wow, This Camera will blow away even the Popular Canon ELF models. It has a 3 inch screen. It has all the red eye reductions and face capture technolgy that those other $175 to $200 cameras have but its better. It even has more Optical Zoom - 5 X, instead of 3 X...

If you shop around for features you will see that this is the best value for your money. I am surprised that nobody else noticed it. GE really does bring good things to life, don't let the name fool you. They do make some very good quality cameras too, not just home appliances.

  2. Looked like a good deal, but the picture quality was sorely lacking.
Tried many differnt settings, in daylight and at night. I'd give it a B-.
Comes down to clarity and definition, which I was used to with my old Sony; it just wasn't there!

5 comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33T 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Brown).
  1. A great unit, however chip missing, and the video quality in low lite situations is superb. The price was 200 EURO less than in Hamburg shops.

  2. I had the 5 megapixel version of this camera and it was great. When I lost that camera I knew that there was no other point and shoot that I would want to own. The image stabilizer is phenomenal for an amature photographer and it's 100 times better than the kodak cameras that I've owned. I won't buy any other camera for everyday use.

  3. I'm not one who needs to review things, but this camera is special. I have used many digital cameras over many years, each improved over the last model as technology improves and becomes more afordable. Having purchased the FZ18 I noticed the FX30 very is similar in menu and features which I have grown to like on the FZ. There are trade offs with the tiny cameras of optical quality(CCD size)and zoom. Looking at most all others they have similar limitations needing enough light to keep the noise down. Some have much worse quality issues, like so called "digital image stabilization" that automatically lower quality with increased noise to useless levels. The thing I wanted to share is this camera grows on you. I cannot leave it home or often worry it might loose it down the couch or worse! It is cute and needs TLC and just happens to take great pictures too!

  4. I bought this camera for my daughter and she found it a week later in Best Buy for the same price but 10 megapixels. What a deal!! But the camera itself is great.

  5. I gave it three stars because it falls short in one critical area - photo quality.

But first, the good stuff. Like an earlier review noted, the black rubberized finish feels good in hand. The "Intelligent Auto" mode works reasonably well - it was able to distinguish between macro, landscape, portrait and night modes most of the time. The wide angle lens really came in handy for group photos, landscape and architecture shots. Normal operation is fairly snappy, and the menu are easy to figure out. Lastly, the LCD screen's resolution is fairly high, and the gain can be adjusted with one button to aid viewing in bright environments.

However, the photo quality was underwhelming. I've owned a Canon Powershot S410 and Fuji Finepix F20 (both pocket-sized Point & Shoot cameras) and the photo quality in those cameras were superior to the Panasonic. Panasonic cameras have had the reputation of great lenses with mediocre noise reduction, and that's what I expected with this camera. However, the photos are very soft and the colors lack saturation. The noise reduction is noticeable at ISO 200, and is very apparent at ISO 400. This level of noise reduction is not unusual for this class of camera, though I prefer the Canon approach of more detail but more noise.

The camera also has an "Intelligent ISO" mode, which boosts the ISO if shaking or motion is detected in the frame. It sounds good, but it's very aggressive, and the resulting photos are usually shot at fairly high ISO where the detail is lost. There is a option to limit the highest ISO, though the option is not available in "Intelligent Auto" mode.

I haven't printed any photos from this camera, though I would suspect that regular sized prints would be fine. You can usually tell the difference in quality by zooming into a photo, but in this case, I was able to tell the difference even when shrinking the photos to fit in a web album.

It's not a bad camera. I actually enjoyed using it, but at the end of the day, when you sit down and look over the photos you took, that's where the camera underwhelms.

5 comments about Casio Exilim EX-Z750 7.2 Megapixel Digital Camera.
  1. I bought the Casio Exilim Z750 for my wife Linda about 2 years ago and did not get around to writing a review for it until now. As you may have already guessed, if I am writing a review about this camera 2yrs. later, then it must be worth it. Yes, it is!!! The images on this camera come out incredibly clear. When you zoom in once the picture has been taken, the picture clarity does not diminish due to the 7.2mpx. As for video, we took a small video clip at our church and the sound it recorded was incredible, you could actually here every instrument along with the voices. To this day, this camera continues to amaze us, especially when you consider what we would've paid for if we would have bought the CyberShot.

  2. This is my third casio camera. I started with the z50 and have moved up as new models came out. Why purchase new models? Well, my grandchildren have claimed these GREAT cameras. Never had a problem, have dropped and miss treated. Great pictures - always!! shirt pocket or purse battery life is unbeliveable. I use a 2G SD and it works great!
    Go ahead - Buy one!

  3. I am not an expert photographer, so I can't provide much technical information on the performance of this camera. But I can say, I am extremely pleased with this camera, especially for the price. It produces excellent quality photos. I've owned a couple different digital cameras that cost much more and did not produce as high quality images. The battery lasts a good long time, and it was easy and very inexpensive to find additional backup battery and memory cards. The viewer screen is nice and large, and clear, so you get a good preview of what your shot will look like before snapping the photo. It has allot of handy built in features, that are fairly simple to figure out and use, which was a big plus for me. The bottom line for a novice photo buff such as myself is the fact that this camera produces such high quality photos in just about any lighting and other conditions. I suppose the best way to sum up my review of this camera is, that if the one I purchased ever breaks, or becomes unusable for any reason, I will definitely invest the money to repair it or purchase another one just like it.

  4. Well, first the shipping only took three days, which is awesome! Had a few scratches but nothing really unexpected from a refurbished camera. Takes very good shots, both indoor and outdoor.

You have to fiddle with the settings to decide which to use for when. They provide a lot of already made settings called, "Best Shots" and each has its own scenario to take a picture for. I.E. Water Shot, Lush Green Shot and etc...

Batterly life is great on this. I recommend this camera to many of my friends due to its good video recording. It also has a straight up audio recording as well which is cool. The screen is a perfect size for this camera. Most often I find screens to be too small or oddly placed. I'll be adding more to this review as I progress with my pictures.

  5. The camera is perfect. It was shipped quickly and with everything that was promised. Thanks!

  1. I wanted a small camera which took good pictures and good video. the size on this camera is great which allows for me to take it anywhere.

The picture and color quality are very good, not great, but very good. For the size, I can't complain.

The video quality was pretty good at the time I bought it (17 months ago) and the camera has taken a few knocks over the time I have owned it. Be sure to have a large SD card for the videos.

For the price and all around qualities, I am really happy with this purchase.

  2. this was a great camera for my kids...had one problem with an "E18" error so we sent it in for repairs and its been great....

  3. I love this camera! It is small enough to carry in your purse! It takes fantastic pictures and is so simple to use. I love the battery it uses! No more charging and buying batteries!

  4. I bought it for my sister. She carries it everywhere she goes. Takes good quality pictures. Recommend it.

  5. Was a great camera for a few yrs. It ultimatly turned on in a bag and since the lense comes out its gears that operate the lense focus got messed up. It took great pics when it worked. I will by another canon powershot soon. 3.2 megapixels was barely enough for photos. Plenty for web only but not for print. I dont think you can even buy any new cameras with much under 5 megapixels now anyway. Bottom line Canon makes great cameras buy one you wont be disappointed.

  1. I've had this camera for about a year now and I like it a lot. However, my lens protector broke (doesn't close properly) almost a month after I bought it, which was a bit problematic, but most likely a function of a defective product as opposed to the camera as a whole. I haven't had any other problems with it besides that.

    1. Battery life is really good. I'm a college student and I use my camera pretty heavily-- and honestly in the entire year I've had my camera I think I've only charged the battery maybe 6-8 times. Maybe. It lasts for maybe 100 pictures or so; not exaggerating

    2. Images. They're also good-- it's a 10.1 megapixel camera, so the colors are very bright and rich, but the images aren't particularly sharp; I think that's a product of the low pricing of a camera with such high megapixels. It's actually really ok, it hides unflattering acne or whatever.

as a casual user, I do highly recommend this camera; and I recommend it over its 7.5 megapixel brother-- my best friend has that camera and I think the difference in picture quality is worth the small price gap.

pretty images, great battery life, great durability

  2. The most outstanding features this camera offers are the great image quality and long battery life. Pictures have very little, if any, noise. The quality in low light even is impressive. I took over 200 shots with a flash before the battery died. This is a great little camera that can stack up to similar cameras from more well known companies. For a small camera the buttons are easy to press and it doesn't feel like it's going to break when I use it. Navigating through the menus seem intuitive enough and there are plenty of them. Great buy.

  3. When I saw this camera at this price, I had to get it!! I have the 7.2 MP Exilim since Christmas 2006 and love it! Seeing the 10.1 MP for less than I paid for that 7.2 MP was all I needed to make the purchase. The Best Shot feature is my favorite. The picture quality is fantastic. I loved the video feature on the older model, so I am sure this one will be just as good, or better. The newer model is not as long, but slightly wider - will create a bigger bulge in a pocket - but the view screen is about 1/4 inch wider, so that makes up for it. The telephoto button on the new model is a ring around the picture button on the top of the camera where the older model was a two button (W/T) on the back - kind of liked the old way, but not a big deal.

Great pictures, low price, 10 MP, great features, easy to use.

  4. Recently purchased a Casio Ezilim EX-Z1080 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Antii-Shake Optical Zoom. My Granddaughter picked it out for me and I am very pleased with this camera. I had resisted the digital "scene"--I was happy with my regular "film" camera, however, now I am even printing my own pictures and they are turning out beautiful. I would highly recommend this camera to one and all for its simplicity in operation and excellent quality pictures.

  5. I really like it! It is great for what we need it for which is just as the family camera. The only issue I noticed is that without the flash on indoors the pictures can turn out somewhat grainy but I jsut keep my flash on auto so it isn't a problem for us! Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to buy this product for the same or simlar uses to ours since it is small and light and yet takes excellent quality pictures for the price!

  1. I was in the market for a external wireless shutter control for my Canon 30D, was browsing around the canon website and noticed canon's LC-5 controller costs as much as a new lens. This product perfectly filled my requrements with the addition of costing only a fraction of Canons equivalent. Great accurate shutter control, battery will last an entire day of shooting.
