-
Dude, I completely lucked out when I bought this camera... :)
I was at Office Max, looking for a laptop bag I needed for a trip, and I'd stumbled upon the Kodak Z650 while the store was doing an inventory. They had a sticker on the box that read "do not inventory", and, more importantly, another sticker with a new price on it - $99.99!
Needless to say, I bought it right up!
I wanted to explain that because this is a one-hundred dollar camera to me, so my opinion of it may be a bit skewed.
I've owned the Z650 for a few months, and I've gotten to where I feel very comfortable using it.
Even for twice the price I got it at, this is a wonderful piece of serious photographic equipment. I know you SLR people are probably laughing at me right now, but it's true.
Besides, not all of us like to look through a viewfinder to shoot photos. One nice thing about the Z650 is that you can toggle between the ample LCD and the EVF with the touch of a button. I find myself using the EVF when shooting with the 10X zoom.
A note on the zoom feature - it's a 5X DIGITAL zoom, the other five, you're on your own with. Beyond its digital limit, and depending upon the subject, images can get somewhat blurry. This can also be attributed to the camera's lack of image stablization. Kodak Gear (Tiffen) makes an excellent 60" tripod that can greatly improve upon these minor imperfections. In fact, 47th Street Photo sold it to me (here on Amazon) for $9.95! Great people, and it arrived at my door in two days time using standard shipping...
Okay, I'm straying a bit here...
The Z650's menus are both easily accessable and easy to understand.
In addition to several pre-programmed scene and automatic modes, the camera also gives you the option going fully manual - a must for me, because one of my favorite subjects to photograph is the night sky (a couple of my photographic endeavors can be viewed in the customer images for this camera). I'm still tinkering around with shutter settings and whatnot, but I'm getting what I consider to be very good results from my Kodak.
All in all, I'm very content with the Z650, and I would recommend it highly. If you're thinking about buying it, I hope this little review helped you out!
- A great camera, especially for those who just want to take a simple photo, nothing fancy, just a good, clear shot everytime!
- About 9 months ago a Kodak Z710 was purchased for me by my superior to record the various landscape features. It is about half the size and weight of my film camera. With 1 GB memory card I am able to take many good pictures and review them on the computer screen.
In April, 2008 I decided to buy a digital camera (Z650) for myself through Amazon. Because I was familiar with the Z710, it was an easy choice to purchase another Kodak. I checked Steve Digicams website and found that the Z650 was a good camera.
Ordering from Amazon was easy and Amazon kept me informed as to the delivery progress of my order. The camera arrived on time and the bill was exactly as stated earlier.

- I have had this camera for about 2 years but I'm about to sell it to my dad. It truly is a great camera for everyday use and special events within families. However I needed even higher resolution and a camera with room for more expansion since I'm pursuing photography as a career. This camera is amazingly easy to use. There's nothing tricky about it. It takes wonderful photos and I particularly like the sport mode. One negative I found is the shutter lag is rather slow though. Having an active 2 year old whos constantly on the go, some great photos were never caught because by the time the camera actually took the picture the moment was gone or the smile had disappeared. ButI must say that most camera's of this type within similar price range all have about the same shutter lag typically. Nonetheless, It is an excellent everyday digital camera assuming you're not an avid photographer. Hope this helped.
- I've had this camera for a little over a year. After owning 2 HP cameras that broke on me shortly after purchasing them, I stayed away from HP and went to Kodak, which I was told was easiest to use. I loved this camera because of the 10x optical zoom. I produce very good quality photos with this camera! It's a little too big to carry on a night out so I bought another Kodak that fits in the purse. I think I'll be a loyal Kodak camera owner from here on and this is a really good deal for the money.

- I always had Cannon cameras and they worked great but broke easily and the customer service was horrible. I bought this camera at sears yesterday and it is back at sears today. I asked the customer sevice person why the camera was only listed at $123 and he said that he didn't know because he heard that it is a great camera. After using it for 10 minutes I could tell that the quality was bad. I bought the camera for the 8.1 MP however it didn't seem to be any better then the ratio on my cannon which was 3.2. A friend told me that the MP doesn't matter if the lense is bad. After using the camera for about 25 minutes the batteries died.
I only recomend this camera if you want something cheap that takes ok pictures during the day
- Over 1 year later it still works fine, even after a 4ft drop to asphalt.
Its fun with a lot of features you will most likely never use. Frame your pics with several premade frames. Record audio to go with your pics. Nice fades during the slideshow. It seems to have all the usual film settings for a mid grade camera, I leave it on auto 95% of the time. Plenty of resolution to heavy crop most any pic and still be sharp. I usually end up making some gentle brightness/contrast changes in editing.
Drains NiMh batteries so fast. Keep at least 1 set of spares at all times. Won't even work with some older NiMh. Won't work for long at all with any standard alkaline, somuch that its a complete waste to use them. Never tried the Lithium.
Poor battery life is not a factor in picture quality thankfully, so overall I'm happy with the performance and features of this camera.
- Well, it took 3 weeks to receive because UPS lost it. Worked for about 4 days until it wouldn't turn on (the lense is stuck in the extended position) and started making a weird beeping noise. Before that, I had trouble getting it to set to the auto mode but that seemed to go away. The pictures weren't all that great but manually adjusting the aperture and shutter speed helped. This is not a very good point and shoot camera. In short, I would save the money this thing costs and buy something more expensive, which is what I am going to have to do anyway.
The good news is that the vendor, PC Universe, was very helpful in getting the product found and delivered to me. They actually answered their phones right away the several times I called them.
- My mother purchased this for me on my birthday gift (she's in her sixties) and is very thrifty. I saw it and thought well it doesnt look all that trendy. All in all camera takes very clear pics only as long as your subjects dont make any sudden moves. Zoom is good also it stays clear, until you start using the optical zoom at about 3 megapixels or higher. For the price its ok, not the one I would have picked if I purchased it though.
- I purchased this camera with a lot of research in all aspects, especially as this was my second digital camera. The result was the Samsung Digimax S850, and as a second camera I was not unhappy with the purchase, infact, a year on, I can honestly say that I made the best choice for me, and can recommend it if you want a no nonsense, easy to follow, excellent picture camera. I am no expert on cameras, but this one just does what you want and even though the battery life is short, I found that with lithium batteries, it lasts a good deal longer, and I am not constantly trying to find batteries, for that moment. I would recommend this camera, I like it so much that I bought one for my mum and she LOVES it.

- well I first got it had no clue how to use it but now after 2yrs... I love it and it has been sucha good camera for me and It is very easy to use. I love it so much it will complement my new addition nicely. SO if your looking for a good starter camera from nikon its good.. If you don't belive me on the pictures this camera can take...Please feel free to take a gander at the photos it has taken
http://www.pbase.com/lil_irish_angel01
- I bought this camera 3 years ago and I still really love it. The clarity is unbelievable, even if someone is in motion that your taking a picture of. It's the best camera I've ever had, it's also very sturdy, my 2 year old has knocked over a numerous amount of times. Great camera.
- I got this camera a year or two ago, and it has been great for me. I use it once in a while to do some event and wedding photos on the side with my Video Production business - and it does just fine for the limited pictures I need to take for the events. The build and quality of the body itself is great, feels good in my hands and is fairly intelligent to use if you are used to SLR cameras.
I think at this point, there are some other cameras out there that you could get that might be better for the money by now, but this is still a great camera and takes very nice images. You can see a couple of my shots in the customer image gallery above.
You can't really go wrong with this, and the lens that comes with the camera is just fine - not bad at all. Although you will most likely want/need to get a telephoto lens in addition.
- better to buy a point and shoot, photo quality is just as good with Cannon A540, even when enlarging prints up to 36X24inches.
- I bought this camera 3 years ago, and it worked beautifully until on a long trip in Yellowstone. After changing the memory card, the mirror locked up, as other posts mention, making the camera completely useless. Since I was past the warranty period, Nikon told me I would be charged, even though they had (have) a vague-enough-to-weasel-out-of service advisory out for this problem. The way the service works is to receive the camera, have a front desk monkey put it into a cost-to-repair category, which you must then authorize payment for before they will proceed to actually see what is wrong with the camera. When I asked how they knew what it would cost and why it wasn't covered under the service advisory when they didn't know what the specific problem was, they just told me they always hear the same complaint (should be a warning to them), but that's the way they'd always done it. I should have bought a Canon. Their service is well-known to be top-notch in the industry, and the cameras are good quality for a lower price. I highly recommend AGAINST Nikon, unless you're buying lenses and flashes.

5 comments about Canon PowerShot S1 IS 3.2 MP Digital Camera with 10x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom.
- Superb point and shoot camera, bright and colorful pictures, excelent movie mode (with zooming and sound), but on November 2007 begins with the "flickering lcd screen" and about a week later no image, no photo, no nada (nothing), i was able to review my taken photos and movies but i can't take new pictures, i was a victim of the infamous CCD problem for this model, you can read about it at :
http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html
there under the "Canon" section you can find this little Gem (what a pity and waste of money).
- I bought this camera with my then-boyfriend to backpack across Europe with for the summer of '05, and it was, with a few exceptions, perfect for the situation. It was worth the extra 3 pounds given the options of the smaller point and shoots that year, especially with the 10x zoom. Our outdoor shots were phenomenal, and though it's very tricky to get a good shot in low-light situations without a flash - which I'm not really a fan of using - we got some very good shots at night and indoors. The 3.2 mp is deceivingly awesome as well, I've been able to make beautiful poster-size prints out of many shots!! I wouldn't buy it again because there are more improved point-and-shoots available now, but there are some features that rival even the performance of some of today's camera's.
I've heard of the fabled "E18 error" with these Canon models, and complaints of various problems from poor build quality, but this thing survived in top condition through being tossed around in our hiking backpacks for two months; trains, taxis, long treks on foot, camping, and even a moped tour. It took a fair amount of knocks without problems, and is still working great 2 1/2 years later.
My only complaints are the sluggish, sometimes 2-second delay response of it's picture taking (which is helped by depressing the shutter button halfway to give time for the autofocus to figure things out), it's less than awesome performance with action shots, and the aforementioned difficulty with low-light. Other than that, I'm sorry that my ex-boyfriend got custody of it!
- I purchased this camera in Oct 2004. In January 2008 the viewfinder went blank (dark) no picture. Before this, it had a few pictures with lines through them (distorted). I did not purchase this camera from Amazon. This camera worked great for me and took really good pictures, but I am very disappointed that it would break just a little over 3 years old. It should last longer than this. I carried it back to the store where I had purchased it, because I had the service plan. After 3 weeks, they called and told me they would do an exchange because they could not get the parts to fix it. I did like this camera but it is just a shame that it does not last long.
- I bought my S1 IS in 2005 from a brick & mortar store. It traveled across half the globe with me and took exceptional pictures. Often, I was amazed at the crispness and color of the pictures. I also LOVE the underwater case, and have used it in a few 'all-weather' conditions (including sand). Sadly, near the end of 2007, my screen started getting purple lines across it. It seemed like a once in a while occurrence, but in Feb of this year, it completely blacked-out. Of course this had to happen one week before my son turned 1yo. I was an avid picture taker, from traveling, scenery and animals, to 3-20 pictures a day of the (almost) first year of my son's life.
I absolutely loved this camera. It was the PERFECT compromise between a simple point & shoot and a very expensive digital SLR. It takes amazing pictures, has a VERY strong flash (which is a little slow to recharge), and not too bulky. I will for sure buy the latest version after saving some money, since I already have the waterproof case. In the meantime, I am going to try-out an SD800.
Having been my first digital camera (I am a lover of old school SLR's, and really wanted a digital SLR, but didn't have $1K to shell out just for the body) I had no idea what a reasonable lifespan for these cameras should be. But I guess 2.5-3 years isn't very good. It is frustrating & reasuring that others have encountered the same problem with this model. However, I don't see the logic in paying for repairs when that could cost me close to the price of the camera itself (I think I paid around $350).
My S1 IS is severely missed... but hopefully soon upgraded :)
- I bought this camera way back in 2004. I took it on numerous trips, Thailand, Bombay and of course I used it at home as well...
It gave fantastic service, I took some really great photos all over. I had trouble iwth it once, when I had to take it into Canon repair for the pop up flash, which wouldn't pop up.
Apart from that, nary a complaint. (Being a novice photographer, I guess I wasn't too demanding to begin with).
About six months ago, the LCD/EVF conked off... I would get a haze and then later I would get a line and black screen. The first few weeks I was in denial. It can't happen to me etc. and then I was too busy to take it in for repair. I was to go on another overseas trip, so I finally decided to get the camera fixed and handed it into canon.
I was told, that the parts to fix are not being made any more. My first reaction as... oh crap.
BUT, they replaced this camera with Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP 12X FREE of charge.
Thank You Canon! I need to buy a Point and Shoot. No prizes for guessing, which brand of camera I'm going for...

5 comments about Casio Exilim EX-Z700 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Anti Shake Optical Zoom (Blue).
- The EXILIM-Z700 7MP is the handiest digital camera I've used yet. The large viewing screen is bright enough that I've never "blacked out" on a sunny day. This is especially important because there is no optical view finder. The controls are well placed and easy to operate, even with large hands (like mine). The 7.2 MP make for a great picture. Another nice feature is the recharging stand/viewer/downloader. Instead of laying the camera down while wires come out of it, this stand holds the camera at a convenient viewing angle for looking through the contents. The battery has a nice capacity so it does not need repeated charges.
The only downside is one of shape. It's so small, thin and light it's easy to lose out of a pocket. That's more the fault of the operator than the camera.
- This product has everthing you would want in a camera. It is also very easy to operate.after charging, you can take pictures for many days.Great product.
- I'm not a pro and like the point and shoot cameras. Everyone has commented on how well my photos have turned out. Outdoor shots turn out particularly well. I also really enjoy the video option. The high quality creates files too large to email and I'm still working on how to convert them to smaller files. The lowest quality video is decent for e-mail but you can't use the zoom or the picture completely degrades. I love the small size, best shot options and large, bright lcd screen. This camera would be great for someone looking to get more interested in and learn more about photography and uploading/emailing to web sites and friends. There are a number of manual settings to play with too. So far, no real complaints. I'm your average Joe photographer but I've been very happy with the quality/colors of photos and videos with this camera. And it's really cute!
- No complaints! Large viewing area, uses & supports most SD cards. Battery life isn't bad either. The only "con" would be that tight/close shots are almost impossible (like 8-12") very blurry. But besides that it'll make ya smile without saying "cheeeeeeese"!
- We have 4 digital cameras, including a Nikon D80 and Nikon S7, and this is always the first we grab if we want basic photos. The colors are speed are great. We couldn't be happier with this product.

- This camera is not worth $10.00 it is terrible in every aspect. However, it is still not as bad as the company that is selling it. I opened the shrink plastic very neatly and tried to return this item, the company would not let me because I had opened the package, to see the quility of the product before giving it to my grandson for Christmas. There response was to tell me to sell it on Amazon !! I have always trusted amazon, but I cannot figure out how they can have a company like this as one of there marketplace members!!!!!Argus QC-2185 Quick Click 2MP Digital Camera
- Just another in a long line of inexpensive electronics that I have purchased or received that ended up failing me.
My daughter got this camera for Christmas. She took ten pictures on the internal memory. I hooked it to the computer and saw thumbnails of the pictures, but when I went to open them, they were either scrambled or unreadable. I opened the various compartments on the camera to see if I had done something wrong. One of the compartments was the battery compartment. It turns out that the internal memory is not flash memory, but volatile memory, which lost us the irreplaceable Christmas pictures she took before I could finish trying to salvage them.
So not only is this another instance of problematic hardware being sold at a lower price, but also of said hardware having poor support. I explained on their support website that I had hooked it up and Windows had seen the camera. I also detailed how I went to their web site to download a driver and after installing the driver I Could not do anything with the camera in Windows. Upon responding several days later, all their tech support staff did was explain to me that it should be picked up by Windows and does not need a driver. This in spite of the fact that their web site had a driver for download. They answer3ed nothing about he scrambled pictures or what exactly their website had given me if it was not a driver.
The camera seems to be taking pictures now and working fine for her, but if you buy this camera be cautious with it and if it doesn't work don't count on support to help you in an timely and effective manner.
- I bought this camera for my nieces who are 8 and 10 because they are going on a trip this spring, and I wanted them to be able to take their own photos. This is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, because they are kids and who knows what could happen to the camera. This also allows them to have their own camera and leaves mom's camera alone! I wouldn't recommend this for adults or for people who want a better quality picture and camera, but it's great for the purpose!
- This is a great camera for the price... for an early elementry aged child. Old enough to be somewhat responsible and not drop constantly. Takes best pictures outdoors. Not so good inside. We added a memory card and some rechargeable batteries along with a padded camera case and are very pleased with the purchase. Resolution is good up to 4 x 6 print.
- I bought two of these for my kids because they were so cheap. I didn't expect them to be great, but my kids won't even use them. They don't function easily, the pictures are fuzzy and they don't hold many pictures.
