4 comments about Sony Cybershot DSC-G1 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilization Zoom.
  1. I've used Amazon to order various items before and was always satisfied with the result...quality at low prices.
    I ordered a Sony Dsc G1 on Sunday June 24th and it arrived Thursday, June 28th.
    I've taken about 50 photos under critical conditions, low light and using the automatic features of the camera.
    I'm amazed at how well it performs. Big LCD screen, the camera is a nice size for my big hands, just a little bigger then the regular Cybershots. The resolution in the screen is excellent.
    I was considering the DSC T-100 but it got such bad ratings that I went with this camera....sure glad I did!
    When I figure out some of the more technical features I'll post a more detailed review.

  2. Had this camera for 1 month, LOVE IT!

    Pros:

    - HUGE SCREEN!! Talk about being the center of attention when you whip this camera out. Definitely want to get some sort of a protective slip for it.

    - Great picture quality. What do you expect from SONY? Only the best.

    - Internal Memory. 2GB - memory stick? No neccessary with this. Internal hard drive rocks.

    - Sleek design. Doesn't look cheap, luxurious feel.

    - Video recording. Again...just like the pictures, it rocks.

    CONS

    - Weight. A tad bit on the heavy side, but the HUGE screen makes you forget about it quickly!

    - Close/Open slide. Not neccessarily a con, but it just takes a little getting used to.

    - Size. Not the biggest of cameras but definitely not the slimmist. Again, not a huge downside considering the huge screen but short time you get used to it!

    For more info, I would suggest going to [...] and seeing the video on this product! You won't be dissapointed with the camera

  3. i love this camera, very easy to use, although the buttons took a little getting used to, takes great pics and videos. i highly reccomend this camera to anybody, it also would probably be a good beginner camera

  4. I bought a Sony a300 dSLR a few months ago, but decided it wasn't logical to carry around a $1000 camera to parties, so I went searching for a good point and shoot that took quality pictures for around $200. I stumbled onto this camera at a National Camera Exchange tent sale and immediately fell in love with it.
    Pros:
    - 9-point AF is great for a point and shoot
    - 3.5" screen is huge and crystal clear: have to see it to believe
    - 6 MP is more than enough for 99% of my shots and it doesn't take up so much space on my computer. It also does better in low light conditions because the pixels aren't so packed on the sensor.
    - 2 GB internal memory is awesome, and you don't have to buy expensive Sony memory sticks
    - Can store and listen to music with an 8 mm headphone jack
    - Nice charging dock
    - Beautiful menu displays
    - Toggle switch is the best way to flip through menus
    - Lens is hidden when closed so it isn't easily scratched

    Cons:
    - Buttons are a little tough to learn
    - Little big for most small camera cases

    Would recommend it for anyone. Just a fun camera to own.

  1. I purchased my camera about 2 years ago, and I hear nothing but wows when I show off my pictures. I have read many bad reviews about the reliability and durability of this camera, but I just don't see it. I DID, however, purchase the underwater case for it, since I took up scuba diving. The case has hardly come off since I bought it. It was fairly expensive, but a worthwhile investment. I take the camera camping with me, and I go fairly frequently. Hiking, swimming, biking, and other general outdoor use - this camera has been at my side the whole time, and has not had one single problem. The pictures are great for a point and shoot camera - I am by no stretch of the imagination a great photographer, but I turn out a gem every once in a while simply with the "auto" setting. People have mentioned problems with the flash cards - I got a 1GB Corsair card (I'm a computer geek, and I'm very loyal to Corsair RAM). It's fast, it holds a good amount of pictures and video, and again, it has NEVER given me a problem.

    The one negative thing that I can say is that when shooting a video, it gets fairly grainy when you zoom in.

    All in all, though, the A610 does everything I need it to do, and well. I recommend it, but I also recommend getting the underwater case if you plan on bringing it along with you frequently during outdoor activities.

  2. I will admit the camera took great pictures but from the very beginning I had issues. When it was very cold the shutter would not open completely, sometimes I had to open the battery door and close it to get it to power up. Then came the dreaded blank screen. I contacted Cannon and received the typical $110 up front answer. I will continue to argue with them and try to get a reduced price or free if I can but I'm not holding my breath. I took excellent care of this camera but is still died after about 28 months of use. I still have a 25 year old Pentax camera that works like the day I bought it, why can't they make anything that last now days?

  3. I love this camera. Bought this in April 2006. Picture quality is really good. Though its weigh more than the current sleek models like Canon SDs, I love this camera due to its flexible LCD screen, picture quality. I bought SD1000 recently. But, I feel the picture quality of A610 is better with the same settings.

  4. There's no better warning to be made other than saying the camera is great, until you get the "black screen". Canon choosing not to acknowledge the issue and repair the defective cameras for little to no cost, is unfortunate.

  5. I've had this camera for nearly three years now with nary a problem. It takes the best photos I've ever seen out of a point and shoot, the batteries last forever, and the macro capabilities are incredible. I've taken 5000 pictures with this camera. My guess is that if you don't knock it around, it will last a very long time.

    This camera has a lot of higher-level capabilities and is a great camera for someone that wants a lot of flexibility but doesn't want to shell out for a D-SLR.

  1. This little giant is a great pocket camera with loads of power features.

    * Effective Image Stabilization
    * Automatic Intelligence Modes
    * Loads of Scene Settings that really work
    * Great zoom combination (optical/digital)
    * Extra Sharp Images
    * 28mm wide angle view
    * Super Compact
    * File Organization
    * Crystal clear 3.2" Screen

    I could go on and on with all of the great features.
    If you buy this camera and learn how to take advantage of the features, you will not be disappointed. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a small camera with great performance features.

  2. Excellent small, convenient snapshot camera. All of the controls are really easy to use and in the right positions. The picture quality is outstanding and there is plenty of control over the size of the files. The only drawback that I found is that it does not have a fully manual setting for the exposure and the longest exposure setting appears to be about 1 sec. I am sure that I won't need these settings too often. Overall an excellent purchase. I would recommend it.

  3. it's a excellent camera. it's easy to use and many function. but it's not easy to buy a replacement battery.

  4. just a great all around camera. I dont know why anyone would buy anything other than a panasonic. Leica lens, huge lcd screen, its fantastic.

  5. This camera has proven to be far better than I could have ever hoped!! I purchased this camera after my previous point-shoot style camera was damaged while sandbagging a levee in Iowa...

    The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55P was ordered as a hurried replacement before I left on a trip. The camera has excellent lense quality and an outstanding array of features. I really appreciated that the menus and functioning are pretty intuitive if you have experience using cameras. I've mostly worked with Canon products previously and still like that gear very much. Even though I had not used a Panasonic before, locating features was easy and intuitive. I purchased this unit instead of the Canon because the Panasonic is a smaller, flatter camera that offers all of the same features that I wanted for much less money.

    Simply put, I have not used a small camera which produced such high quality photos and offered such great flexibility of use. The flash is powerful and offers several settings. I've used the camera in a variety of situations ranging from concerts, over dinner, by a campfire, macro photos of bugs, and in the dead of night. All situations resulted in outstanding photos. The battery life has been very good. The wide angle is VERY useful. I just returned from 6 days of camping using the camera every day (not constantly) and never needed a charge.

    I simply can't think of anything else I would like in such a camera. A great purchase that I could recommend to anyone.

  1. First of all I am not going to cover any of the subjects that have been beat to death on here already. But to anyone thinking of buying this Camera dont walk , RUN to purchase it! This is without a doubt the finest little camera on the market for $89! It will take pictures as good as a $3-400 one [if it is set correctly] And to address the battery issue??? There isnt one........... all the comment about the batterys that came with it only lasting 10 mins that is TRUE .......... however that is the same length of time; they would last, in ANY digital camera. The LCD display takes alot of power to run on ANY camera. The problem is most of the folks on here howling about this camera need to be smarter than the camera and they are NOT. Why so many have said that it doesnt have a battery meter is a mystery to me; as it is shown in the upper right corner and tells you the state of charge at all times. For the camera to take the crispest photos you need to set it to Sharpness=Vivid Plus and Contrast to HIGH. The manual isnt much good to anyone; and you have to wade thru the online one, to find out how it really works: and that is the worst part of the camera the online manual...........
    Once this is set up correctly, you couldnt ask for a nicer little camera, for $89 there just isnt one made. 99% of the problem is that people dont understand cameras and they WONT read the manual ......... hence the battery problems, uses to much power, no meter, poor quality pictures, etc.
    The camera will take supurb quality photos if you set it up correctly but you do need to know enough about it to make those settings .

  2. Now that the price is dropping below $60, this is a good deal for those who want a big screen and a zoom.
    You people new to digital cameras: MUST USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES, and keep 2 extra sets in your camera case. You wanted a 2.5" screen, the 1" wouldn't do, well that big screen takes 6X as much electricity (do the math), and that's got to come from somewhere. Until the LED screens hit the market, or cold fusion is invented, that's the only way. Get the batteries and get the charger and get over it. The alkaline batts they give you with the camera are just so you can turn it on and play with it right away. Put those in your flashlight and get some 3000 mah NiMH's and start taking pictures.
    I mostly use 1 megapixel images, but setting the camera for that gave me noisy grainy pix; I'm taking them at 6 and decreasing the size in photoshop. Also, the Macro setting isn't very macro. I have to use a close-up lens.

  3. I bought this camera as a Christmas present for my 7 year old son, who has shown an interest in photography and had taken some very interesting shots with my digital camera while visiting my parents during the summer. He has shown promise with his artistic eye for detail, content, and placement and I wanted to encourage him without investing too much money in his newfound hobby. He loves this camera! It is lightweight, easy to use, has features that makes it easy for him to be even more creative with the effects, and the pictures are decent. He has taken a few shots that he really liked, so I had them printed as 8"x10" prints and framed for his wall. He's going on his first Caribbean cruise this spring and looking forward to filling his 2G memory card with photos and memories to have printed and make a phtoto coffee table book for me and his grandparents. Though it's not what I'd purchase for my 16 year old son or either of my teenaged stepdaughters, who have a keener eye for picture quality and are a bit more responsible, I think it's a great first camera for a child who is truly interested in photography and has shown that they have a knack for finding beauty through the lens.

  4. Saw this mid-size Samsung S630 for $59 last week, and bought it for my 11 year old daughter without a second thought. It was very light in weight (plastic case)and good built. Photos were nice and above one's expectation for less than 60 bucks. It also has lots of features and a 2.5" LCD screen. I used two Sanyo enelope rechargeable batteries and they are still running after couple hundreds of photos. Video clips were even better in image quality than photos in dim light. This is a great beginner camera in such a low price and good quality. Now my daughter can have her own camera for her school field trips.
    Great gift for your kids.

  5. The camera is very good designed, with plenty features, and very good picture's quality. I bought one for my daughter, and then additional one for my causine. Could be used for 10-yeras old, as well for adults.

  1. This is a beautifully built precision instrument, loaded with features and offering a range of controls. It requires more study and practice than I anticipated, and isn't merely point-and-click even in its simplest mode. Its default sensitivity to light is for a smaller range than I was used to with my previous digital camera. So far, indoor photos fade into dark when they should have more of an illuminated background. Back-lighting also has been difficult to compensate for, although the features to do so are allegedly built in. As simple as it looks to operate, this camera does require hours of getting used to, in order to take advantage of all the features, and to get the results you want and should be able to expect. This camera is for the devoted, experimental photographer, or someone who likes to master complexities. A Lumix is not for a lummox...

  2. I am very pleased with this camera. Compact, powerful, large LCD, intuitive interface. Images are very clear... my only criticism is that the on/off button occasionally gets turned on by accident.

  3. Great pictures , the camera does take some study. I recommend you get extra memory , the built-in isn't enough . The on & off button does seem a little cheap.

  4. This is a great little camera. It has so many features for it's size, love the photos it takes and the 22 minute very clear videos also. I put a 4 gig card in mine and I can take 689 photos at a full 12 meg. Every one says that you need a spare battery, that's just a sales pitch, I can take over 300 photos with one charge. If you take a lot of photos a spare would be nice, Amazon offers the spare battery with a Case for only $25. Great bargin and deal at that price. I just ordered mine. Get this camera, you won't regret it.

  5. I've been very happy with the camera with one exception. The camera has no viewfinder making it very difficult to frame shots under bright conditions.
    If I had realized there was no viewfinder, I would not have purchased this camera.

    If you don't mind not having a viewfinder, the camera is top notch.

  1. The cam works really good and i am very happy with the delivery. Thank you!

  2. I love this camera. I was in the market for a digital camera for a while. I've been searching and testing for a long time. While, I'm not a professional photographer, I'm very picky about the things that I purchase. One of the important things that I was looking for in a camera was slimness, yet most of the cameras that were slim had very few features. This one is great, it's slim with a lot of high tech features, yet still easy to use.

    One of the biggest plus is moving shots and shots behind glass still come out crystal clear! This camera is great and at a reasonable price.

  3. I like so much my camera but the battery unloading very fast. The moldels Olympus Stylus 710 The loading of the battery is more intense and it lasts more. In this Models FE-290 the wide screem 3 inch it is a success.

    Salvador Suero

  4. After 26 years of being in the hobby of photography, I have already outgrown the stage where I thought that the best cameras were simply the ones with the most number of bells and whistles. There was a time when I wouldn't even consider something inexpensive, thinking that surely it's features weren't the latest. Maturity has given me the wisdom of realizing that as far as my point and shoots were concerned (and I've had so many of these through the years), I have never really availed of much of these whatchamacallit features! The point of having a point and shoot, after all, is to be able to just point and shoot (and leave all the adjustings with your SLRs)! A few days ago, I ordered the affordable (inexpensive, not cheap) Olympus FE-340 and FE-290. Yes, I ordered both of them! I was attracted by the 5x optical zoom of the FE-340 and the 4x (with wide-angle) optical zoom of the FE-290, and I couldn't decide which one I wanted more. Well, it turns out that the combined price of both units were still less than the price of one comparable unit of another brand. More importantly, I simply trust the lens of the Olympus since I know that it is a long-time optical company that created an optical product, not just an electronics company that decided to dabble in cameras.

  5. I've had this camera for about a year and I absolutely love it. The pictures are crisp even in low-light conditions (I hate using the flash, I prefer to take photos using available light), and the video capture is clean and clear with good sound quality.

    The only places I see room for improvement are: 1) there is a bit of a lag between hitting the shutter button and the capture of the photo. 2) there are no manual settings on the camera whatsoever--no shutter speed, iso or focus adjustment. Last of all 3) the battery life is a little bit weak, but at least additional batteries aren't expensive.

    All in all though, this is a great camera and it takes a beating, too. I've dropped mine a few times and it holds up great.
