5 comments about Olympus SP-310 7.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver).
  1. I bought this Olympus camera to update my older Olympus camera. I stayed with Olympus becasue my former camera was such a workhorse. I took tons of picture with it and it took a beating here or there and was dropped a few times. After much research, I went with the SP-310. I was happy with all the features and like that fact that you could do some limited manual settings, such as sperture and flash speed...although I am an amateur so I don't know much about these things. However, one thing I don't like is that in fully automatic mode the camera resets the resolution each time you turn it off and on, which is soemthing the old camera wouldn't do if you turned off the "All Reset" feature. This camera has the same feature, but it doesn't seem like the resolution is part of what is NOT reset??? Maybe I am doing something wrong???

But, my real problem with this camera is the short battery life. No joke, I can take from 10-25 pictures only with new rechargeable NiMH batteries. I know there is a firmware update for this, which I tried but didn't resolve the issue. I just received my camera back from Olympus after the second time of sending it to them, so I will see if anyting has been fixed.

Perhaps, I have a lemon, but the fact that a firmware exists leads me to believe that there is some type of issue with this camera or perhaps a certain amount they have built. Olympus customer service has been so-so, although the last person I talked to from corporate "took care of business."

  2. The camera has a complete feature list and good image quality. Unfortunately, battery life is so bad it's almost useless. I rarely get more than 25 shots from a set of freshly charged AA rechargables.

I sent the camera to Olympus to have the firmware updated, but it didn't make any discernible difference.

  3. Just takes a little getting use to it.I like all the features of my old 35mm
    SLR which used real film.

  4. Barely after 1 year of ligt use, the lens got stuck (closed) one fine morning after replacing batteries. The lens won't come out. Kept displaying "Zoom Error" and auto-shutting-off. I gave it a real good whack and voila.

Stick with other brand names... I heard good comments about Olympus. Personally I will never go for anything other than Canon or Nikon in future.

  5. The only flaw in this camera is the hook for the battery compartment. It is fairly small and plastic, and it takes very little to make it useless.

However, with that said.. the sliding action of the battery compartment cover still keeps the battery in and functioning.

I was very pleased with the quality & relative simplicity of this camera, excepting the flaw noted above.

  1. This is a great camera for people who just like to take general pictures to view, edit, email, print, etc. I highly recommend purchasing a SD Memory Card (about 1 GB) for this product; built in storage not enough. The battery has a pretty long life, (rechargeable) and saves you a lot of money on not having spend it on regular batteries. One thing that does bother me though, is that whenever you turn the camera on it resets to auto-flash, meaning that the flash will go off at times when needed, but it doesn't always need when it goes off and may cause the picture to get blurry. You can change the flash setting either to off, on, or red eye, but whenever the camera is turned off and back on it resets to auto. That can get annoying. Also when you download the software, the HP website then finds out that you have received you product and starts sending you loads of e-mails of their newsletters, other products to purchase, their new expensive software, and all kinds of stuff! That I should say is the most aggrivating. But other than all of that it is a very very good camera!

  2. I love my new camera. Everyone remarks about how professional and sharp my pixs are. I took shots at the pool, at work, and at church. I even posted video on Youtube the first week. I was shocked at the small size of this camera and it is so light weight, but this little camera can produce such high quality of photographs. I feel a little tingle inside every time someone says something about my shots. I also think it is the way I crop and improve the shots on the HP grogram. I have not advanced to the Snapfish site yet but I will get there. I am looking forward to using this great camera for years. I was so impressed with this camera that I sent one to my Nephew for his high school graduation.

  3. I have used this camera for five months and I love it. It is compact, very easy to use and I will never use another digital camera that requires double A batteries!! However, I did find out that taking timer pictures runs a battery down very quickly. No problem. It takes only an hour and a half to recharge it. This camera has MANY shooting modes and shows all the information that you need on the screen.

  4. I love this camera! It feels substantial in my hands. It isn't plastic at all. Plus you can do video with sound, which I didn't expect. This camera is extremely easy to use. There are plenty of settings, and comes with great editing software. Two thumbs up!

  5. I have this camera in red. The camera itself is alright. I wish it had a viewfinder as well as the screen. I do not like how fast the screen shuts off. The picture quality is marginal. Even in the steady photo mode, the picture is real grainy. In other modes such as night mode, you have to hold the camera real steady. I tried that and my pictures came out blurry. I wish I would have read reviews before purchasing this. Its an ok camera overall.

3 comments about Casio EX-Z80BE 8 MP, 3x Optical Zoom Digital Camera - Blue.
  1. I bought this camera mainly just for video. From my search only Casio have point-n-shoot camera that capture more than 640x480 at 30fps. This Z80 can capture 848x480 at 30fps. Samsung's L210 and S1050 can do 800x600 but only at 20fps. Video quality at 848x480 (casio call it UHQ/HQ wide mode) is quite good.
Image quality is OK, it's no where near that from my Rebel xti, but acceptable, again I am not too worried about image quality.
Control, UI are good. (You can try it at WalMart or Costco)
Other pluses are its small size and low price.

Minus: H.264 movie is in .mov format, I don't have quicktime or itune(hate them), I installed "quicktime alternative" and can watch them in WMP or mediaplayer classic.
Another thing is Vista keep importing movies that's have been imported. It just do this to movies, pics are fine. I usually click "erase after imporing", so it's not big deal for me, and it's Vista's problem not camera's anyway.
    overall I like it.

  2. I recently purchased the EX-Z80 and have since returned it because I was not happy with the image quality. The auto function produced pictures that were blurry and noisy. Quite a bit of pixelation/noise in all photos I took as test shots. The flash is very bright for shooting close subjects, takes a lot of color out of people shots. The different shooting modes were difficult to figure out and still produced blurry photos. The difficulty in actually figuring out the right setting to use was too bothersome. Not to mention, I never found a setting that I was happy with. If you're not that picky about blur and noise, then this might be the type of camera for you. However, for the camera buffs that just want a small camera to carry around for those spontaneous photo-ops, you should think again. I returned the camera and bought a Canon Powershot A590 IS that I am very happy with.

  3. I owned several cameras, film and digital, and this is by far the best digital point-and-shoot I ever had. I have to admit that it took me a long time to decide on buying a Casio as opposed to Cannon, Nikon, or Pentax, as I had very good experience with those.
However my wife was supposed to be the main user of this new camera, so when she saw it in a store, she was sold on it, as the camera is very small and very good looking. She loved the green one (which is is actually a greenish yellow) so we paid $10 more than the black one and got it.
To me it took a lot more to be convinced, so here is my point of view on it:
    Pros:
    - Very good quality of the pictures (the auto focus works great and the multi point metering system takes care nicely of most situations, including some more difficult shots (like high contrast, back lit subjects, moving subjects, etc)
    - I love that you can easily switch between standard format (1.33 ratio), film format (3:2 ratio), or wide screen (16:9 format).
    - Metal body, makes the camera fill solid and you can have a good grip and stability.
    - Easy to switch between different menus like changing formats, flash modes, ISO sensitivity, different self timer settings, shooting modes (like single, continuous, etc), auto shutter, and face recognition modes.
    - Although I consider face recognition a gimmick and I never use it in real life, I did try it and surprisingly works very well! Not only the camera will find and focus on the face, but you can set also the Auto-Shutter to take the picture only when the subject smiles. There is even more: you can record several faces in the camera's internal memory, and when those people are in a larger group, the camera will find their faces and focus on them, so they come out the best! I tried the freakish feature and it works!!!
Also, it has other many Auto-Shooting features, that some people might want, I tried them, they work but, I don't normally need most of them.
    - The movie recording quality is very good. I set it to wide screen and the highest quality and it is exceptionally good, I say at least like a DVD (also it does record sound very well, with no significant camera's own noise).
    - It has its own movie recording button, so you do not need to go though any settings in order to start filming. You push the trigger on top, you take pictures, or if you push the trigger on the back side, you are filming (push again to stop). It can not get any simpler or faster.
    - If you don't like to mingle with settings, you may find the "Best Shot" setting very simple and useful. You click the "BS" button (funny name... ;-), and you get a bunch of sample photos. Use the left-right-up-down buttons to navigate to the picture that is similar to what you are shooting, push OK, and the camera sets itself up for that type of picture (like flowers, portrait, self portrait, sports, night scenes etc, etc).
    - I love the burst shooting mode (aka CS - Continuous Shooting), which has several settings:
    CS - shoots pictures at the quality you set as fast as possible;
CS-FAST shoots lower resolution pictures and saves them to the internal memory. I got about 4 to 5 pictures per second in this mode, and the quality is good enough to print 5x7" pictures. This is a life saver when your kid shakes hands with the principal of the school, when they make a karate jump, or when they throw that ball. Normally you push the trigger and hope the camera takes the picture at the right time. With this, you push the trigger a little earlier, hold it until the kid is through, and before you know it you have a series of pictures taken at short intervals of each other, so your chances are a lot better to find one that shows what you want to see.
    - Used with a 4GB SDHC memory card, my wife took literary hundreds of pictures and filmed many minutes of movie during a recent trip before she had to transfer them to the computer. She did that only several times during the 3 weeks trip.
    - Also, one charge of the battery lasted for several days. In fact she did not charge it until, into the four or fifth day of the trip, the low battery message came on.
    Negatives:
None so important to give anything lower than a five star rating.
    - I would have liked a "shorter" focal length on the close end, so that you can have a wider view as sometimes there is not enough room to get away from larger groups of people. However most of the cameras have this focal lengths, so this is just a wish with small point and shoot cameras.
All being said, I love this little camera.

  1. This camera/Mp3/camcorder/webcam/voice recorder is way to good to be true! I brought one because it was cute and looked perfect for mini movies. But I was sadly mistaken... This camera just takes cheap pictures and videos. The only thing that actully worked properly was the voice recorder that I had no need for. After about 3 days of trying to make it work a little better I gave up and sold it on eBay for the same price as I brought it for. It's a great idea... but it just isn't a good camera but if you want a voice recorder this is pretty nice. The Mp3 player isn't all that wonderful either. It doesn't work with iTunes. Or easy work with Windows. Hope this helps... I wish I would have read this before I brought this camera.

  2. My son loves the camera, the only thing I didn't realize that it takes AAA batteries. I know that there are some cameras similar to my sons that take AA. Other than that were good. Thank you.

  3. This is the worst camera i've ever seen for many reasons:

    1. This camera only works outdoors or in a cmpletely iluminated room.
    2. The flash is very useless at night.
    3. It consumes batterries extrmely fast (it uses AAA)
    4. The still pictures quality is very bad.
    5. The videos have awful sound and a extremely poor quality. They appear with those big pixel squares.

I don't recommend this camera for anyone. Not eve a 5 years-old kid will enjoy it.

  4. I bought this camera for my son because I thought it had everything a child would want and I was right. My son spents tons of time with his little camera, I enjoy this camera too when I get bored I get my son's camera and listen to the music on the mp3. This camera is very nice and it is really cheap. the only bad thing is that it does not has a rechargable batterie on it but that does not matter if you buy some AAA rechargable batteries and a charger. I totally recomend this item to everyone who is interested on it.

  5. my parents bought me this camera for x-mas four years ago and since then it has been sitting in my closet collecting dust. There is a lot to this camera that is wrong.

    1. The picture quality is HORRIBLE! The pictures are too dark even with the flash on.

    2. Getting photos on the computer is a pain. My brother is a computer wizz and he could not get the photos onto the computer.

    3. The battery life is pathetic. You take three to four shots and your`e done you need to go buy more batteries.

So save yourself the trouble and do NOT buy this camera unless you want another thing in your closet collecting dust.

  1. Good camera. Haven't used all of the options on it, but its performed fairly well. There are some features I both like and dislike about the camera. It does the job.

  2. After one year of babying the camera, it suddenly has malfunctioning lens i.e. both zoom and focus. Cover would not close properly anymore. Makes loud buzzing noise when turned on, and lens does not glide smoothly. Now it drains fully charged high capacity nickle metal hydride batteries very quickly. The internal gears must be made of absolutely worthless material to go bad so quickly. The alternatives are not much better either as every manufacturer may well be using poor quality internal gears so they can keep selling a new one to customers every year or so. Good scheme for generating revenues. Is there collusion among manufacturers?

  3. I bought my Canon camera thinking it would be a good quality camera. It worked fine up until I owned it for just under 15 months. The screen went black, and like so many others with the exact same problem, Canon REFUSES to fix it. Saying it is out of warranty. Bottom line is that Canon produced a line of defective cameras, and I for one will NEVER buy another product that bears the Canon name. Now, all I have is a really expensive paperweight!!! I hate to throw it away! Maybe someday, Canon will come to its senses and offer to fix it. But I won't hold my breath. If you are even remotely considering buying a Canon camera, I would strongly recommend not doing so. Their customer service is absolutely among the worst I have ever seen and experienced!

  4. I purchased my camera about 2 years ago, and I hear nothing but wows when I show off my pictures. I have read many bad reviews about the reliability and durability of this camera, but I just don't see it. I DID, however, purchase the underwater case for it, since I took up scuba diving. The case has hardly come off since I bought it. It was fairly expensive, but a worthwhile investment. I take the camera camping with me, and I go fairly frequently. Hiking, swimming, biking, and other general outdoor use - this camera has been at my side the whole time, and has not had one single problem. The pictures are great for a point and shoot camera - I am by no stretch of the imagination a great photographer, but I turn out a gem every once in a while simply with the "auto" setting. People have mentioned problems with the flash cards - I got a 1GB Corsair card (I'm a computer geek, and I'm very loyal to Corsair RAM). It's fast, it holds a good amount of pictures and video, and again, it has NEVER given me a problem.

The one negative thing that I can say is that when shooting a video, it gets fairly grainy when you zoom in.

All in all, though, the A610 does everything I need it to do, and well. I recommend it, but I also recommend getting the underwater case if you plan on bringing it along with you frequently during outdoor activities.

  5. I will admit the camera took great pictures but from the very beginning I had issues. When it was very cold the shutter would not open completely, sometimes I had to open the battery door and close it to get it to power up. Then came the dreaded blank screen. I contacted Cannon and received the typical $110 up front answer. I will continue to argue with them and try to get a reduced price or free if I can but I'm not holding my breath. I took excellent care of this camera but is still died after about 28 months of use. I still have a 25 year old Pentax camera that works like the day I bought it, why can't they make anything that last now days?

  1. I bought this camera to replace my old 2 MP Fuji which served me well for over 8 years. This new camera has all the gadgets and is very user friendly. Reliable, and for $145 a real bargain for an 8.3 MP camera!

  2. I bought this camera after extensive research to take with me on a three-month semester in Europe. My main criteria were: 1) low price, 2) good picture quality, 3) short startup and lag time between photos, 4) portability, and 5) good battery life. Over the course of the semester I managed to take a good 1600 pictures of people, landscapes, and artwork in all different settings, and frankly the image quality blew me (and my family) away with its sharpness and vivid color. Lag time was great, much better than otherwise comparable cameras I've used. Battery life was excellent, too; I managed to get through the whole semester only recharging about four or five times (though this was probably because I tried to avoid using flash as much as possible). Video is quite passable, with decent sound quality. Durability was impressive; I managed to drop it at least twice, once on marble, and it is still in perfect working order.

Drawbacks: image stabilization is digital and not, in my experience, particularly useful, so if you're in low light and don't want to use flash you will want a tripod or at least a solid object to steady it on - but that probably goes for most cameras anyway. The autofocus can have trouble in low light or when you're aiming at a hazy horizon for a landscape shot, but otherwise no problems there. The main thing that disappointed me was the lack of manually adjustable options under the "manual" setting: it allows you to control white balance and exposure, but that's about it (and even there you have to choose between presets).

Bottom line: if you're a pro then this is probably not the camera for you. However, if you're like me and want a portable, inexpensive camera that takes quick, sharp, semi-artistic pictures, then you will be happy with the Finepix A820.

  3. The camera is fine as long as nothing goes wrong. Fuji has the worst customer service I have ever delt with. They pass you from one person to another and do everything they can not to help you. Be prepared to deal with the worst customer service in the business. I really hope this helps you.

  4. i bought this camera in July and was immediately impressed. Now its 5 months later and it is starting to act up. The auto focus has become unpredictable and when you power up and down the camera is making a "mechanical" noise that is making me worried that one day it wont power up at all.

I really thought this would be my last camera for a while but it seems that I'm back to shopping again.

  5. For the first 5-6 months, my 820 did fine with 2700mAh NiMH batteries. Suddenly, upon turn on, the empty battery icon flashes and it shuts down within 5 seconds. I am using the same batteries and even bought new ones. No deal. Sent it back to Fuji for repair. They sent it back with the same problem. It's a great camera otherwise. Lots of features and video w/sound. But now it just doesn't stay on long enough to use it. Alkalines will last only 8-10 minutes and less with flash. I'll try the repair route again. It might just be my camera's problem, but if you do buy it, don't get too emotionally attached.

  1. The camera is a sure head turner: small and cute. The quality of the pictures is average at best, the camera works well in natural light and has a good lens that produce sharp images. Sometimes produce some color aberration that generates funny effects.

  2. I bought this as a gift. It is really cute and surely get attention from people but the picture quality is really poor. Think of it as a cell phone picture quality. If you are looking for something with good picture quality this is not for you.

  3. I am amazed at the number of negative reviews here that come from people that, incredibly, thought they were buying a "serious" camera. People, look at it. Read the specs. Go to the nearest store and hold it in your hands. This is a toy, meant to be bought for its looks. It is the cutest thing ever, it will make you the center of attention at any party you bring it too. And, to top it all, it can even take pictures!

But if you expect the quality of the pictures to be the same as from a similarly priced Canon... seriously, you need to have your head examined.

  4. This camera is very small, but the picture quality isnt that great. You could get a canon with much better quality, for the same price. It takes really nice pictures if you use it correctly, in natural light, outdoor shots. However, if you plan on using indoors, this probably isnt the camera for you, unless you plan on purchasing the Classic Flash also. All in all, a really cool camera for the price.

  5. Levers don't work. They are just decorative. Blurry pictures. No focus even. You can't even FOCUS this hundred dollar plus toy. It's not even cute. It's not just plastic, but LOOKS plastic.
