5 comments about Kodak EasyShare DX7440 4MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom.
- When I was camera shopping, I did not have Kodak in mind. I was thinking of the bigger players like Sony, Cannon, Nikon, ect but I love this camera!
1- It takes great pictures. A lot of cameras these days are 6 or 7 MP and a 4 MP camera sounds ancient. However, a 4 MP is way good and I actually put my settings to 3.1 MP. I developed it at the store at it look just as good as a 35 mm camera! Also, I can store a lot more pictures at 3.1 MP and am VERY satisfied with the image quality.
2- It's FAST. Takes the picture when you click the button! You do have to wait a few seconds to take another picture (there is a processing time) but I find this much more bearable than the initial lag that some cameras have.
3- It's very user friendly but offers other options for more advanced picture taking. You don't even have to read the manual to use the more advanced options- it's great.
One of the disadvantage is size. I was well aware of this when I bought the camera but I wanted something nice in my hand that I can hold. I now wish I would have gone with a thinner camera so it will fit in my pocket. I am younger (21) and when you're going out to clubs, you're usually not bringing a huge purse so the camera seems kind of bulky. However, I do like the feel of this camera much more than little ones. If I was middle-aged, I'd much rather have this one than the tiny ones. I have no problems with the size other than when I'm going out.
I did tons of research when I bought this camera and have 0 regrets. However, I will make other noteworthy concerns by other reviewers that I took into consideration when purchasing this camera.
1- the wheel is small and you need to push this little button simultaneously while turning. If you have large hands, it might be a problem. I am a small girl, so it works fine for me (not my father). Also, sometimes the wheel can be hard to move if you haven't used it in a long time. It's a delicate wheel, don't force it or it will break.
2- be careful when replacing the batteries. Many people have reported breaking the orange tab meant to put the battery in place when they replaced the battery. As long as you're careful and take your time, it works fine.
- I am not a camera guru and I HATE to read directions and try to remember ambiguous symbols on cameras that are crucial to set before taking a picture. That's why I love this camera. The purpose for any button you push appears in text on the screen. My pictures also come out great! The software is easy to use. I guess the only flaw I've found is that the digital zoom is a worthless feature. It is too blurry to use.
- I have had my camera for over 2 years now and I like it so well that I bought two more, one for my Mom and one for my Dad. I also recommended this camera to a friend and she loves it. We off road in Jeeps and this camera has been subjected to all kinds of things like dirt, mud and rain as well as being banged around over ruff terrain and it has never let me down. It takes excellent pictures and it doesn't have a delay when you take the picture like so many cameras have today. It's very easy to use and always takes a great picture.
- YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE DIGITAL CAMERA....I BROKE MY FIRST ONE AND I LIKE IT SO MUCH I BOUGHT A 2nd.
- After reading the negative reviews on this little camera, I felt obliged to put in my two-cents' worth! I've used a Kodak DX4530 (Excellent camera) for about 4 years now and decided to hand it down to my daughter. I came across a DX7440 in a pawn shop. It was mint condition, but the pawn shop owner thought he fried the camera accidentally. I handed him $25 and walked away with my PRIZE! I ordered new batteries for it, THREE KLIC-5001 batteries for $18 TOTAL. I was not sure if it would work until I received my batteries, charged one and tried to use it. Well, it worked.....and is a fantastic little camera. No need to pay $30 for a single battery when you can order a set of 3 KLIC-5001's for a total of $18 (already includes shipping).
It may not be small enough to fit into your pocket, but unlike the newer pocket-sized cameras, the DX7440 has large front and back hand-grip areas - where the newer cameras are SO compact, that there is no place to grip the back with your thumb, and little area on the front. So I would gladly give up a "pocket option" for these benefits. Plus, the "feel" of this camera in my hand represents (to me) a feel of quality.
As for fuzzy pictures, I have yet to take one where it was the camera's fault. Now that I know all the options available on my DX7440, my family is stunned at the quality of pictures from this little camera. I took three pictures using the three obvious features and the picture started out VERY blurry. The second was still awful, but much better than the 1st. The 3rd picture, using the top "flower" button option, was stunning! So one only need learn the abilities of the camera.
As for not taking pictures well inside or in dark areas -- again, using the correct simple options available on this camera, I have yet to miss a great picture opportunity in the dark. They are fantastic! One must simply read the manual and learn the camera. It is truly a great little camera with so many options for the price.
The unlimited video-taking is great and the quality of the video is great. Keep in mind that this is a digital CAMERA, not a dedicated video camera. Obviously, the internal memory is insufficient for handling much video. So you would be well advised to purchase additional memory for your DX7440.
The automatic lens cover is great! My DX4530 had a cap that popped off and dangled from a tether. So the auto-lens cover is a welcomed addition.
There are only two negative things stated about this little DX7440 that I cannot defend. One is that the battery clip (orange tab) breaks easily. But it is an irrelevant piece. The door holds the KLIC-5001 quite well. I'm not sure about the KLIC-5000 battery, given that it is a thinner battery. But personally, I prefer the 5001 because it lasts longer - and the 5001 charger came with the camera from the pawn shop! Be forewarned though: DO NOT try to charge a KLIC-5000 battery in a KLIC-5001 charger. You will fry the battery!
The other negative comment made about this camera is a biggie! The Mode Dial (or "wheel" as we are calling it) can be a problem for some. My camera works perfect, as does my parents. But when I tried to find a good used one for my sister, the first one arrived with a Mode Dial that would hardly turn at all. I returned it. I bought another used one, which camera is in mint condition. But again, the Mode Dial was very difficult to turn. After using it quite a few times, my sister says it's working just great now. Not sure what causes the Mode Dial problem, if it's preventable or user-induced problem. The used we bought for us and the used one we bought for my parents work like a charm! Initially, we took my sister's camera to a camera shop and they suggested that it may have some dust or dirt lodged behind the wheel (and this must have been the case, since hers is now working great!) The wheel is obviously connected to the control circuit board, which is essentially the entire camera. So if there is a problem with the wheel of a NEW camera, you would be well advised to return it immediately to have the problem fixed by Kodak.
I would mention as well, that it is better to first deal with Kodak via E-mail. You will get personal attention a little easier that way, and be locked into a particular person. They DO have nice and knowledgeable people there....if you go about it the right way! It may not be as simple as picking up a phone, but it will get the job done!
We now have three of these DX7440s in our family and we are ALL very thrilled with the picture/video/sound/option qualities of this little camera.

- (okay so im really 14... now 14 & under)
I really liked this camera. The pictures were actually quite fine. It went through batteries like... well there is no comparison to that. It like ate them like a fat kid eats cake?? Well that was really a pain. I also know that sliding lens covers protect the lens, but it turns on the camera. If i were to stick it in my pocket, I'd have just wasted a set of batteries.
The absolute worst and random thing about this camera was that it RANDOMLY deleted RANDOM pictures!! I'd take a great picture and then... it made it all fuzzy!! So it was no good!! That really got me mad. If I wanted to make sure I'd actually get a picture of something, I'd had to take it twice, or maybe even three times if I was really concerned. And this just happend RANDOMLY!! DO NOT BUY THIS. >.<
A very important thing about this camera is to NOT DROP IT. I dropped mine one too many times... and er, it doesn't really work well now!! It is useless. Yeah, you can take pictures, if you want it to look like it does when you don't get a TV channel (only its rainbow and you can see a faint outline of the object). So be careful... but if you don't drop cameras, and you don't mind random pictures getting deleted, this is a nice camera. :]
- This camera drinks battery juice like an alcholic drinks beer. Piece of junk that takes horrible, low-quality photos. Not even worth $50 new. One of the worst digital cameras I have ever used.
- This was my first digital camera. In fact, I still keep it around. In think is a pretty good and decent camera. It is easy to use and it is not heavy. Is perfect for vacations, party's, and other activities.
Ok, so the flash it is not so great. And it really uses up batteries rather fast.
Anyway, I would buy it again if i could :D :D!!
- Good for quick and easy shots at parties and such. It's not a tiny little camera and obviously not pro material, but the quality is reasonable considering the cost and age. At 3MP, it is a good choice for someone who wants snapshots to post online or wants only smaller-size prints. I'm the world's worst about fuzzy pictures and this camera is fast enough to offset my shaky hands.
The only real drawback - and it's significant - is that the lens cover slides open too easily. Mine opens inside the camera case. Considering that opening the cover also turns on the camera, that means battery drain as a side effect. Presumably everyone uses rechargeable batteries these days. Even so, I'd recommend keeping the batteries out of the camera until you're ready to use it, or you'll find that you don't have enough power to snap anything.
- The pros about this cam is that the pictures.. were decent. And the software was pretty cool.
But the cons? You could not keep enough batteries around to keep it goin.. and the flash is way too bright.. it even actually effected the pictures.

- Bought this as a Christmas present for my mom after getting my son one for his birthday. It's really easy to use and for the price it takes really good pictures. I recommend this camera to any digital novice.
- Camera takes really good pictures and is easy to use. My daughter is pleased with it. Very fast shipping.
- It a wonderful product, takes amazing pictures and easy to use. The only problem I had was with the company they contract out to for repair work. The camera worked great for almost a year but then, without warning, the screen suddenly filled with horizontal white lines during all modes. I obtained a return authorization from Kodak and shipped it their repair center. After three months of unanswered phone calls and e-mails, I called an 800 number asked them why it's taking so long for my camera to get repaired. They told me the camera's on hold for unspecified customer damage. That's nuts! The camera was well taken care, never dropped or exposed to liquids. After contacting Kodak to look into this they came through and I got my camera back the next week. They did an excellent job repairing it but negelected to return my 1gb SD card. Oh well, at least I got the camera back. If I hadn't pressed it with Kodak, I don't know if I would have seen it ever again.
- A great camera, takes fine pictures for under $100. My 1st digital camera and my only complaints are that after using my SLR Pentax 1000 for years its hard not to have the viewfinder close to my eye, and its small size compared to the 35mm.
- My daughter received this camera as a gift. Koday Easyshare was supposed to be so great, but I don't agree. I am not a novice at taking pictures and have taken many great pictures with my Canon Powershot. The Kodak camera eats up batteries like mad. There is a delay between pressing the button and when the camera actually snaps the picture, which has resulted in many missed shots. It is very sensitive to motion and pictures come out blurry. On top of that the software that you use to download pictures (and you need the software to download, unlike the Canon) is a memory hog and bogs down my computer (2 different versions installed on two computers). Other than the camera being lightweight, I don't have anything good to say about it. I realize this is an older model now (not when we received it), but it's only two years old and I'm ready to pitch it because it is so frustrating to use.

- I had this for under a month and went out to take photos. I took two pictures and then the screen went black. I took a few more photos after trying to figure out the problem and came home to download black photos and videos.
I did some searching online (which I should have done beforehand) and this is not uncommon. Nikon is not backing up the problem either and charging up to $200 for the fix.
Save your money for a camera that works. This one ain't it!
- I purchase this camera a year ago because it looks sleek and I like the option to take pictures at a very close range such as for products that I can display on the web. After a month of usage, I was starting to experience this Lens Error a few times but I didn't pay attention to it because I thought it wasn't big of a problem.
However, lately, the Lens Error became permanent and I can't use it anymore. I can't send it to Nikon for repair because I just missed the warranty. I can't do anything with it and just got to write it off as a bad investment. However, I will never buy any camera from Nikon anymore. I can no longer trust them with their flimsy cameras.
- I received the camera as a gift. I checked the reviews on the camera and heard about the dots on the pictures (I also read that's why Nikon discontinued this model). Sure enough, after only a few days of use, I had dots in about 5% of the pictures. I didn't want to risk it getting worse, so I returned the camera while it was still under the 30 day warranty. It took amazing pictures, and I hated to part with it, but it's not worth the risk of having to deal with a manufacturer later.
- Great camera. I Loved it. Really nice one. It's sleek, takes spendid pictures, and is easy to use. Thee rotating round button makes photo reviewing easy and fun.
I would recomend it to my friends.
- I am on my second S5. And I have grown used to having one in my pocket. It is about the same size as a wallet and ever so useful. The first one died after 11 months of very hard use, the screen went blank and though it still will take pictures it is hard to tell what you have in the frame. No real complaints with it it been dropped more than a first grader playing catch. The second one has developed a dark spot in the picture a day after the end of warranty. It had not been dropped or juggled nearly as much and it still works.
Things I love about this camera:
Size and shape, it goes everywhere in my front pants pocket, coat and shirt (careful with the shirt or it comes out when you bend over.) The number Good pictures I have because I carried this thing make it worth all its quirks.
The lens is clear under the right conditions.
Cautions:
Focus. You have to go slow let it pick its spot before you actually do the picture. Don't hurry it.
It does not like low light.
Because it is so light and small it is hard to hold steady. I use the self timer all the time on hand held shots.
when the lens cover starts to stick use a vacume so suck out the dust as you turn it on and off a couple of times.
I would get the leather case, it might add some time to its life.
