  1. I have used this camera for two vacations and many back yard pictures and am quite impressed with it's capabilities! It was a little hard to get used to because it has more complicated settings than our previous Kodak digital camera, but I do love the 10-power zoom and high quality images! The 10-power zoom is especially helpful in capturing wildlife shots that will amaze your friends!

  2. Hello, I bought this item, because it was no longer availabel here in Germany, therefore excuse my typing / errors in spelling.
Well, what can I say this camera is wonderful. It has everything, I mean everything you can ask for. This camera has received best test results in 2007/2008 and is still a hot item in 2008 eventhough the new type TZ5 was launched in the market. This camera has received a better test results regarding the speed shooting pictures in sequence. It is therfore alos good snap shot camera, but much more than this. Read more: It does not take a long time compared to other cameras to charge, focus and take a wonderful shot. It shoots brilliant picutes although the flash is super bright. It does not have manual features, but many many programs from which you can choose of for almost every surrounding the right setting is available. Also, you have two buttons you can "pre-set"with your favourite settings so it is super simple to handle.
The "only" 7.x megapixels are just fine they match to the chip that is inside the camera and that's the important part somebody told me. All pixels should have room on that chip to produce the best quality of pictures - which this camera really does.
But the best part is the super zoom, 10x and an additional digital zoom, also it has some neat functions like the "hold still button" not sure what the correct term is, but it prevents the camera or rather the image on the screen from shaking, you take quick, excellent, high resolution shots! Yeah, I love that camera, I put a fast SD-HD card inside, 4 GB so that I can use the "burst function" as well, many pics I can shoot in quick sequence. It looks nice and helps when you do a photo story.
Well, I could say much more positive things and only positive things this thing is great, remember you cover even a 28mm angle (wide angle).
Hey, if there are more of these "old" cameras on the market - go get one, the new typse not necessarily have to be better- remember this. Most of the time it is a battle among the manufactures more megapixels, but that does not count all the time. So, if you are thinking of buying a camera - this is the one, eventhough it is Japanese, but hey you know they make could quality besides the lens is I think made in Germany(!) Leica and that is still one of the top quality products / brands.
So, I hope I could give all readers a little insight of my feelings and view.

  3. This is the best camera I have ever used. The pictures are excellent, the zoom is phenomenal. The fast shutter speed allows me to take 4 pictures in the same time other digital cameras take one. Everyone I have shown it to or have tried to use it love the camera.

  4. I previously had a Panasonic DMC-LZ2 with which I was satisfied, so I was comfortable with choosing another Panasonic DMC and familiar with many of the features and menus. The DMC-TZ3 has been an amazing little camera for a point and shoot that I got for just under $200. It has many extras that my LZ2 didn't have - love the candlelight setting - and it does well in low light. I put an 8G memory card in it and purchased an extra battery - these lasted through at least 1.5 hours of video and 150 pictures - both at the maximum quality. I have been receiving rave reviews on my videos on YouTube and many questions as to what kind of camera I used... my only wish for it is that you could change the zoom level in the middle of videoing. Be sure to not have your finger over the microphone while recording - my first test video had this awful sound - fortunately I figured out why.

To see my videos - search for fanmamma on YouTube and look for video created October 28, 2008, or later. Be sure to set it to watch in high quality; as good as these are, the original files are even better.

  5. I bought this when my Fuji F700 hit the pavement - too bad, that was a better camera. This one is solidly built, great screen, good features, but has three big drawbacks: it consistenly overexposes (I've manually set it to a darker exposure), the contrast and color depth seems mediocre, and it's bad in even moderately low light conditions - always uses a flash indoors even when it seems pretty bright, and you get a big overexposure on your subject when that happens.

5 comments about Samsung Digimax i85 8.2MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Silver).
  1. This a great Camera, with great image quality and amazingly fast zoom!
The video quality has also quiet improved over the NV3 that I have.
The reason that I didn't give a 5 star to this camera are the following:
    1) A small delay in start up
    2) Relatevly low battery life.

Otherwise this camera is an amazing power house that realy raises the bar over the competition.

  2. I've been using this camera for past 2 weeks.
I'm pretty much satisfied with its performance. It gives blurred images sometimes but otherwise its pretty decent.
Its build in media playing capability is really cool.

  3. I had done some research on various brands (ie, Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc). I used resource such as CNET and other review websites to include reviews from product owners that purchased various on-line stores.

After all that, I found that the Samsung i85 looked like a real gem, especially for the price compared with Sony and similar high-end brands.

What I found is that for a basic point & shoot ultracompact cameras, the Samsung i85 has the best bang for the buck.

At first I was concerned about MegaPixels. Then I discovered that that is just a bunch of hype when dealing with these types of cameras. MPs between 6-10 are actually going to give most people way beyond what they need, because even if you print your pictures, you won't find a lot of quality difference. Those with bloated MegaPixel ratings are for serious photographers that plan on making prints from poster to billboard size. for a simple 4x6 or 8x10, you're not going to see any quality difference.

So that led me to my next question about optics. What I liked about this camera is that it surpassed every other. 5x Optical zoom AND 5x Digital zoom = 25 total zoom! All the other cameras were in the 10 to 15 TOTAL zoom. Samsung i85 wins that category.

I also found that the i85 seemed to have one of the largest internal memories to start...190mb vs 15-32mb for the others I was looking at. Samsung i85 wins that category.

Also uses upto 4GB sdcard. *Make sure that it is a regular sd card, I found that the Ultra Fast cards don't seem to work as well. No problems since going to the regular speed card.

Camera takes photos, video, plays mp3, even has a sports photo feature...great for taking pictures of a golf swing.

Big screen, easy to use buttons.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this camera.

ONLY FLAW that I've discovered so far is that you can inadvertently hit the play button to see your pictures which results in the camera turning on, instead of just using the power button. Not sure if its a setting or something I'm doing wrong.

  4. I've been a Samsung Camera lover for a long time. I began with the Digimax S500, then upgraded to Samsung NV3, and now I recently purchased the Samsung i85. I've tried other cameras like the Sony Cybershot DSC S730, but returned it instantly at poor picture quality and lack of image stabilization (Don't be fooled by the SONY brand name, this camera is not good!). Then I bought an Olympus FE-230, and although the picture quality was great and the camera was slim and lightweight, it was too slow at taking pictures for my taste.

After my failed attempts, I bought the Samsung NV3, which is a perfect camera. It takes great pictures, amazing videos with great sound, and you can even hear MP3s on it. After having a successful buy with the Samsun NV3, I decided to upgrade and immediately fell in love with the Samsung i85. This camera has it all. It takes beautiful pictures both inside and outside. It has many features in which you can tweek your camera into taking great pictures despite the horrid conditions outside.

The face recognition function, image stabilization, and ASR function make this camera perfect for portraits and up close and personal pictures. The pictures are so crisp and clear that it makes the worst looking image look beautiful. Videos turn out nice, with great sound quality; however, it is better to take videos in well lit areas. The World Tour guide function seems to be really cool and educational, but I haven't really messed around with that yet.

Moving on, Samsung's i85 is a great camera for those who want great pictures, and don't want to spend too much on a digital camera. Samsung cameras are also very durable and with the internal zoom, you won't have to worry about messing up the lense. Battery life is very good, but I feel that the NV3 has a longer battery life span. The LCD display screen is huge and great for previewing pictures. I do recommend for those who are purchasing this camera to buy it either in silver or black, as they look nicer with time.

Overall, this is a great camera and you'll definitely be content with your purchase!

  5. This is the WORST PRODUCT with the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! I only gave it one star because I had to, but it does not deserve ANY!!!!! I bought this camera last November and have yet to have a camera that works. I have sent it in FOUR times to be fixed and the last time I sent it in (a month ago) I have STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT BACK!!!!! When I asked for a refund, I was refused and they said that they could only send me a black camera (which after a month of waiting they have not sent me). Each time I sent it in to be fixed it was because it stopped taking pictures after recharging the battery. I cannot believe that Samsung has not refunded my money after they convinced me to buy their piece of GARBAGE!!!!!!! How is it that a company can sell a product that doesn't work and not refund your money after a year of CRAPY SERVICE and HEADACHE? I will NEVER buy a Samsung product again!!!!!

  1. This is my first digital camera with the exception of my cell phone. It's got all the bells and whistles, it records video with sound, takes photo's, playback with slide show and a music background soundtrack. I took numerous pictures from a moving car and they came out perfect! They turned out great! I could not be happier with the great quality of photo's and the easy functions. I did make one mistake and that was to hit the program key to set up time settings etc and it had a option for format, I didn't have the book with me and I made the mistake of hitting the botton thinking it would give me a option of what format I wanted my photo's to be and instead it formatted my memory card. Ops! But I had backed up all but the days photo's the night before so I didn't loose but 1 day of pictures so don't make the same mistake. I love it! It's a great little camera and I got it for a great price on Amazon.com.

  2. It price is good. However, you should be ready to buy a seperate memory card so that you can store your pictures. The camera is not working well with moving (even slowly) objects.

  3. I purchased a Norcent camera the wouldn't operate after one week. I returned the camera in August (its now November) and haven't received a replacement. Cannot reach the company via phone (mailbox is full) or e-mail (error undeliverable). Go to their website and try to reach them for yourself. Company must be out of business. Don't buy their unsupported products.

  4. I got a very good deal on the camera, and it take very good picture. I used it a lot at car shows, and i get great picture.

  5. Very nice.
The seller is very good. The first battery died and he sent a new one.

  1. I am generally happy with the camera and quality of the pictures, but the start up time and the shutter lag are some of the slowest I've seen. My family has 6 p/s cameras from all different manufacters and this Optio is the worst.

I just don't understand why the companies promote "face recognition system", "anti shake",and high megamixel when what we really want is a camera that will take a shot when you press the button!

  2. This camera, which does fit in an Altoid box, has been a pocket companion of mine, ever since I bought it to replace my Pentax Optio S4. Yes, it is slow to the starting gate, but, in the bracketing or burst mode, there is some relief from this problem. That slowness cost it five stars from me. Intuitive controls, easy to learn. Great color. Prints are excellent. Low light and bright light handled about average. I'm a Canon fan for larger point and shoots, and have a digital Minolta SLR (yes, I know, they went out of business)--but this little charmer is what I carry day to day.

  3. This camera was recommended to me by a friend. I purchased based on price, the fact is so compact. And, the Pentax name. I will attest as do others, it DOES fit in an altoid can. And, for the most part, when I carry it in my pocket I have it in the altoid can. It is 100% protected from pocket knife, keys, etc. Others have reviewed that it is slow. But, I haven't seen that to be a too big of a problem. It's true..but not a terrible problem. If you want speed...spend $400 more and get what you want. I know this probably goes with all electronics, but my wife dropped my camera with the lens open and it messed it up pretty good. It wouldn't work any more. So, durability it doesn't have from a 4' drop to the ground. But, to let you know how much I like the camera...I ordered another that very day!

  4. The shutter lag on this camera is so bad that Pentax has disgraced its good name by putting this camera on the market. Just how bad is the shutter lag? If you ask a stranger who is unfamiliar with the camera to take a picture for you, nine times out of ten you end up with no picture at all. Why? The stanger pressed the button just like you said, but failed to hold the button down for the three seconds or so that the camera needs to take the picture. Yes, it is that bad -- and even worse when the camera needs to flash. I hate this camera.

  5. This is a great camera. Light weight. Takes amazing pictures. Speedy delivery. GREAT price. I recommend this camera to anyone. A++++++

  1. Definitely excellent camera, with this price and this features but during your night shots that is almost impossible to have a stable shot. Also its photo editor is terrible. So I might say between average and good.

  1. I was skeptical of this camera due to some reviews indicating it has flakey software and chews up batteries--my fears have been laid to rest.

Yes, if you use standard Alkaline AA's, your camera is going to die off after about 50 pictures. However, I'm using knock-off brand 2000mAH NiMH rechargeables and the camera took well over 200 pictures, plus me messing around with flash, video, and playback.

Verdict? I know little about cameras, but this model takes great quality pictures, does a pretty fair job of reducing shake without reducing image quality, and holds up well with rechargeable batteries. I'd buy it all over again in a heartbeat, and I'm glad I picked this model.

  2. This was a gift for my brother and he loves the camera, it actually is better than the camera I own. For the price and all that the camera does it was a great gift for him.

  3. I have had it for 25 days and was thinking about sending it back ,,, I'm going to keep it , The rechargeble batteries are a big $$$ saver for any AA camera especially a battery hog of a cammera. I also had issues w/ it shutting down randomly upon attempting to take photo ,,Problem was powersave options turned on or set to low of a time , 2-3 of them were turned completely off and Hark NO more shutdowns. But,,, man she sucks the power out of a set of ANY type way tooo fast!! People are not complaing as SOMEONE stated ,, There stating a fact. I had a fuji finepix a2650 for 7 yrs , 2.1 MP worked excellent and batteries seemed to last forever. It had a 16 mb xD pic card and it was my only complaint it was propietary to the fuji. I'm sad that died last month while taking pics of my new deck, I was going to get another fuji but don't want those battery packs that require a special charger and cost 1/2 as much as a camera for 1 set of bat. and a charger. i wanted a camera for $100-125 $ bottomline!
the s85 takes excellent pictures and is very flexilbe in what it can do. A 2gb sd pic card last forver w/ pics only and can take some nice video w/ sound.I bought a 2 gb and 1 gig card and have not used the 1 g yet
no need seems like unlimted room on the 2 gb. It is a very nice camera for $111.00 delivered to my door . the colors are neat and the negative exposure is cool , the manual pretty much Sucks and is vague at best, Play w/ the setting and get familar/used to it and tour good to go !! I don't think I can do better for the money i paid .
Some Zoom pics we took amazed me . Also I compared it to a fuji a820 we have at work and it was much better than the fuji . It (s85) takes nice macro pics and the zoom pics were 1000 % better than the fuji a820 , It (the fuji) is not that old and is already making funny grinding noises when zooming in and out. and it won;t take a clear zoom pic at all , i'll keep the samsung and buy another set of rechargeble AA's ,I like it!!!

  4. I LOVE THIS CAMERA!! I wanted to upgrade without spending a lot of $$. This is the way to go..it takes wonderful pictures and is well worth the price!

  5. I bought this camera June 2008. I read all the reviews, I recommend always reading reviews before buying anything. They are so helpful!!!!!! I too will recommend to buy the recharable batterys and charger. I bought 4 batterys that came with the charger. The camera takes Double AA Batterys. Then you have extra batterys with you when you need them. Also I recommend buying a sandisk 2.0GB memory card, as the camera has only enough space on it to hold about 8 pictures.
The 2.0GB can hold about 400 pictures. Now thats alot of pictures! I'am still learning all the camera does, It's a awesome camera!
