5 comments about Sony DSCP52 Cyber-shot 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom.
- It depends what one is used to, I suppose. Myself, I am no kind of expert in either cameras or photography, and not even much of an enthusiast. I got this camera in a fit of exasperation at a series of mishaps with my 35mm effort, and I can only say that as an unadventurous amateur I have been absolutely delighted with it and I don't grudge one penny of what I paid for it.
I chose it at random, and the only comparisons I'm able to make with other digital cameras are with those I've seen my friends use. This one is certainly on the big side - it doesn't fit comfortably into a coat pocket, for instance, but it can still be carried there. When taking photos there has occasionally been more restriction than I might have liked as regards width, but that could well be because I have not troubled to find out all the options it gives me. In fact I have left everything at the default settings, as I have seen no reason to change these. Now and again the occasional photo comes out a little darker than I wanted, but that is easily edited with good p/c software - I use PSP8. Otherwise I have to record complete customer satisfaction. Battery life is excellent (I prefer to use disposables), and the camera switches itself off after a short idle period. The memory stick no longer has to be a proprietary Sony one, as it seems that this technology has been standardised. Above all, the photographs have pleased not just me but everyone else with an interest in them, and that I can assure you is not because I am any great photographer. Others who have used the camera include complete strangers and very un-technical friends. Their photos have turned out as well as my own have, and no elaborate instructions have been needed for anyone. No special software is required if you have a Sony p/c, and the delayed-action when used with the Sony tripod works a dream too.
Obviously more ambitious users than I am will set more exacting standards. For a humble amateur like myself who wants only simplicity, reliability and good-quality output this little machine leaves little or nothing to be desired. There must be plenty like me.
- This camera takes really fantastic pictures....if you just look in the pictures that people have taken with it you'll see a few of mine. They always turn out really well, I like all the features it has too. The only thing I wish is that it would've had at least 3x optical zoom. Other than that I don't have any complaints. This has been a great camera for me & I think most people would like it!
- I had gotten this camera for a christmas present from my dad loved it takes great pictures and the battery ran out fast for me but i went away on a trip and forgot the camera at home my brother uses it and plugs it into the computer and now its broken. GREAT camera a lot of money to fix if not under warranty but excellent camera LOVED it wen i was bale to use it
- I got this camera back in 2001 and, for the 4 years that I used it, I was very pleased.
Pros:
*It performed well in low-light and high-light situations.
*It takes fairly decent pictures, better than one would expect from a 3.2mp camera
Cons:
*There are times when the shutter lags, which caused me to lose the shots I wanted to capture on quite a few occasions.
*It has a tendency to produce very sharp images at times
*The lack of a rechargable battery can make frequent use of this camera expensive. Especially since, on high-end digital camera double A batteries, the average battery life was approximately 50 pictures.
Overall: Great camera for someone new to digital photography and looking to gain some experience with it.
- EASILY ONE OF THE BEST 3.2 MP EVER PRODUCED-NOT MUCH CAN GO WRONG WITH THESE CAMERAS UNLIKE THE NEWER MODELS, WHERE ONECE DROPPED THEY DON'T FUNCTION ANYMORE. I TOOK THIS AND A NEWER SONY 6.00 MP WITH ME TO EURPOE LAST YEAR, "GUESS WHAT?" THE 6.00 MP BROKEDOWN, SO I USED THE OLD DSC-P52 AS BACKUP. THE PICS I CAME BACK WITH ARE EASILY AS GOOD AS THE NEWER MODEL TOOK, BEFORE IT BROKE DOWN. A TRUE WORKHORSE.

- I love this camera! The days of out of focus pictures are gone - the picture stabilazation feature is great. So is the multiple face focus. So far I haven't found anything I dislike about this camera. Nice compact size with a view screen that is easy to see & use.

5 comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX10S 6.0MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver).
- I bought this camera for my wife because she wanted something small and simple as an alternative to my camera. It is definitely small easily fitting in a purse or shirt pocket. The quality feels good and the option for a pink color was a nice touch. The necessary functions of the camera are easy to find and use. I know that, because if they weren't my wife would be more frustrated and lets me know when she can't figure something out. It takes decent snapshots. Not being one to work with lots of features, she manages just fine.
This is the third digital camera I bought, all Panasonic. I have done detailed pre-purchase comparisons I find that Panasonic has high quality and features for a better price than the more well-known brands such as Canon or Sony. I do select for media type and rule out anything that doesn't use SD cards because I have lots of them from several devices. It doesn't have a viewfinder, but the LCD screen is big and bright covering most of the back of the camera. Image stabilization is a good feature for someone who takes snapshots without thinking about the camera settings.
I haven't evaluated the fine points of picture quality... that's not what I bought the camera for. Her first use was to take new-born pictures of our grandson. We were all satisfied with the results.
- Perfect size. Great stabilizer, great photos. It takes the picture very fast and not having to wait to take the next photo. It's just great, I love it!
- i have an fz50 and a leica d-lux 2 made along with panasonic. my wife wanted a pocket replacement for her ancient casio with a postage stamp size screen. she picked this one in spite of a lack of viewfinder. it is truly pocket size and quick reacting. beautiful results. don't expect miracles shooting in low light without a flash. turn the flash on and live with it, or practioce alot with the flash off. panasonic makes solid electronics, and leica lenses are the best.
- I ordered this product in early October and received a notice about ten days later that it was delayed but have heard nothing since and it is now late November.
- This camera was so awesome, it was stolen from me. I'm not rich, so I'll wait to write another review until I know more, but for the week or so we were together, it took perfect pictures, had some cool settings, took a decent video(even in the dark ;)

5 comments about Nikon Coolpix 8400 8MP Digital Camera with 3.5x Wide Angle Optical Zoom Lens.
- This camera proved to perform better than I expected. Easy to operate, yet has so many bells and whistles. There are several tools and capabilities that come with this camera, it is very important to read the manual in its entirety in order to maximize the benefits. The basics stuff on it is so good it might deceive you into thinking you got it all. Its wide angle lens coupled with high resolution is an excellent solution for photographing my artwork for further work on my computer or for reproductions/printing.
- If you're looking to capture "The Decisive Moment" with the Nikon Coolpix 8400, STOP---DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA!!! For that matter, carefully check any digicam or other camera with which you want to capture "action," because what you think you see, may not be what the camera has the ability to capture as an image.
Let me briefly explain where I'm coming from: I made my living as a field photojournalist for 40 years. By the time I retired out of the business I had probably created something like a million color and b&w film images. I owned and used mostly Nikon equipment all those years (although I sure liked working with Leica rangefinder cameras and short focal length lenses), starting with the original Nikon F SLR (which I still have) and finishing up with the N90S and probably ten different lenses of varying focal lengths. I like Nikon equipment a lot.
I decided to begin working with digital images last year. I was attracted to the Coolpix 8400 because the "spread" on the zoom lens was the 35mm camera equivalent of 24mm--85mm. When I worked with film I probably used my 24mm and 105mm Nikkors more than any others in my bag, so this little Coolpix beauty had just about what I was looking for in one package.
Let me say that while the problems with the viewfinder and shutter lag make this camera absolutely useless for editorial photojournalism, it is, nevertheless, a marvel of human ingenuity. For many other uses---such as taking pictures of fire hydrants or cows standing in a pasture (put another way, things that don't move), it works wonderfully well.
Seriously, I shot an assignment here in Tucson that was essentially architectual in nature. The images can only be described as superb (if I do say so myself). I worked only with the camera and a tripod on the shoot. Working inside I simply changed the light balance within the menu on the 8400 (which you can pretty much do on any digital camera these days), did not have to check the scene with a separate exposure meter, etc. Point being that with film I often carried a bunch of light balancing filters and sometimes a separate Gossen exposure meter and all sorts of lights to shoot an assignment. Even then, I'd sweat blood until I could get the processed film on a light table. Of course with digital, I (you) don't have to worry about any of that stuff. One can check the image immediately and know instantly if you're good to go.
Alas, the shutter lag on this, and many other digital cameras made these days, is the "downcheck" which makes me unable to recommend the 8400. There is also the delay in the electronic viewfinder to deal with. The combination of shutter and viewfinder lag make it absolutely impossible to capture an image, the precise composition of which lasts only a split-second. I have taken many good pictures of people working, "action" shots and the like, but it was only by taking large numbers of images of any given activity and then retaining the one or two that said what I intended that I achieved my purpose. Essentially, my shooting eye (which is pretty damned good) had nothing to with it. It's like a soldier trying to kill an enemy with a machine-gun---if he fires enough rounds, one of them is going to hit the other guy. Marksmanship has nothing to do with it. Same-same shooting with electronic viewfinders and shutter lag. If you shoot enough images, statistically you're probably going to get a good one. But it's not a very good way to do things.
So if you're looking to capture what Henri Cartier-Bresson (I'm not sure I've spelled his name correctly) so artfully described as "The Decisive Moment," look at a digital single-lens reflexes, or wait for improvements in digicams.
- I owe alot to this little camera. I just bought the nikon D80 and I am keeping it because it has never let me down. It got me a job as a photographer with it's clear images and high resolution my clients were always stunned (i do architecture photography)...I now have a very succsessful freelance business and I am a PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER!
I can't say enough on how much I appreciate the opportunity this camera gave me. I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!
Also I may add its a trooper...
I have used and abused and never has it gotten wierd...
People look at it and always tell me"wow big camera it looks very professional...and i would laugh and say nope its a pro-sumer camera...but its feels like a pro!
[............]
***WARNING***This is not a camera for portraits or for action***BUT ITS GREAT FOR OUTDOORS, NATURE, ARCHITECTURE, ECT...
- Very good camera and very bad concept. We need more zoom.
- Awsome wide angle camera that is serving my purposes just fine. I needed a wide angle camera because I did not want to have to change lenses all of the time. Also needed something that is light weight too because I have MS and can't handle heavy cameras.
The pictures are better than film! I am very pleased with this camera. I have no idea why Nikon stopped production of such a fine camera but they need to bring it back as far as I'm concerned. The price is right and my experience with the seller was excellant! Shipping was super fast too. I highly reccomend the seller....pcmonde via Amazon.com

1 comments about Nexian NXC3100 NexiCam Digital Camera for iPaq Pocket PC.
- The NexiCam was a great solution to my digital camera problems since it worked directly with my Pocket PC... previously my old digital camera used a different type of memory than my IPaq Pocket PC, so transferring images between camera, PC and Pocket PC was alot more timely than I wanted.
The NexiCam works great, has more features than my old Kodak digicam, is very simple to setup and I am happy to be rid of the old memory cards. I love the built in Compact Flash memory slot, zoom feature and configurable self-timer. One major downside I found was lack of good user documentation. The manual is Adobe based and very basic, you really need to experiment on your own to see the full potential of what you can do with the NexiCam (although that is alot of fun too!)

5 comments about Samsung Digimax S85 8MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Silver).
- I was skeptical of this camera due to some reviews indicating it has flakey software and chews up batteries--my fears have been laid to rest.
Yes, if you use standard Alkaline AA's, your camera is going to die off after about 50 pictures. However, I'm using knock-off brand 2000mAH NiMH rechargeables and the camera took well over 200 pictures, plus me messing around with flash, video, and playback.
Verdict? I know little about cameras, but this model takes great quality pictures, does a pretty fair job of reducing shake without reducing image quality, and holds up well with rechargeable batteries. I'd buy it all over again in a heartbeat, and I'm glad I picked this model.
- This was a gift for my brother and he loves the camera, it actually is better than the camera I own. For the price and all that the camera does it was a great gift for him.
- I have had it for 25 days and was thinking about sending it back ,,, I'm going to keep it , The rechargeble batteries are a big $$$ saver for any AA camera especially a battery hog of a cammera. I also had issues w/ it shutting down randomly upon attempting to take photo ,,Problem was powersave options turned on or set to low of a time , 2-3 of them were turned completely off and Hark NO more shutdowns. But,,, man she sucks the power out of a set of ANY type way tooo fast!! People are not complaing as SOMEONE stated ,, There stating a fact. I had a fuji finepix a2650 for 7 yrs , 2.1 MP worked excellent and batteries seemed to last forever. It had a 16 mb xD pic card and it was my only complaint it was propietary to the fuji. I'm sad that died last month while taking pics of my new deck, I was going to get another fuji but don't want those battery packs that require a special charger and cost 1/2 as much as a camera for 1 set of bat. and a charger. i wanted a camera for $100-125 $ bottomline!
the s85 takes excellent pictures and is very flexilbe in what it can do. A 2gb sd pic card last forver w/ pics only and can take some nice video w/ sound.I bought a 2 gb and 1 gig card and have not used the 1 g yet
no need seems like unlimted room on the 2 gb. It is a very nice camera for $111.00 delivered to my door . the colors are neat and the negative exposure is cool , the manual pretty much Sucks and is vague at best, Play w/ the setting and get familar/used to it and tour good to go !! I don't think I can do better for the money i paid .
Some Zoom pics we took amazed me . Also I compared it to a fuji a820 we have at work and it was much better than the fuji . It (s85) takes nice macro pics and the zoom pics were 1000 % better than the fuji a820 , It (the fuji) is not that old and is already making funny grinding noises when zooming in and out. and it won;t take a clear zoom pic at all , i'll keep the samsung and buy another set of rechargeble AA's ,I like it!!!
- I LOVE THIS CAMERA!! I wanted to upgrade without spending a lot of $$. This is the way to go..it takes wonderful pictures and is well worth the price!
- I bought this camera June 2008. I read all the reviews, I recommend always reading reviews before buying anything. They are so helpful!!!!!! I too will recommend to buy the recharable batterys and charger. I bought 4 batterys that came with the charger. The camera takes Double AA Batterys. Then you have extra batterys with you when you need them. Also I recommend buying a sandisk 2.0GB memory card, as the camera has only enough space on it to hold about 8 pictures.
The 2.0GB can hold about 400 pictures. Now thats alot of pictures! I'am still learning all the camera does, It's a awesome camera!
