  1. This was a gift for my camera savvy son. The view screen is terrible, not close to what is advertised. I wished that my in-laws, who purchased it, read some reviews, I have found not one positive review. I am hoping I can return it. The disposible cameras you can buy anywhere are much better than this one. A complete waste of money.

  2. This camera is poorly designed and constructed. The low resolution LCD is worthless as you cannot even make out the subject you are trying to shoot. The included SW did not work on my XP. The price of this camera is outrageous for what you get. You are paying for the Disney branding.

  3. Do NOT waste your money on this hunk of JUNK! Would have given -5 stars.

  4. I agree with the other reviewers - don't waste your money on this. The quality is terrible - cell phone pictures are way better than the ones this camera takes. I might as well have taken fifty dollars and flushed it down the toilet.

  5. I bought this camera for a little guy who was showing a real interest in photography. After just a few minutes w/ it, he put it down - I don't blame him. It's an awful little camera - pictures are terribly grainy and the flash washes everything out! It also picks up no color.

It was a sad, sad Birthday present!

5 comments about Pentax K100D 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Shake Reduction (Body Only).
  1. No wonder reviewers have had so much good to say about this camera's image quality, it really is that good. Obviously, I'm really impressed with this camera, but for good reason. It's moderately priced, includes in-body shake reduction, and even better, really produces fantastics images. I haven't tried to enlarge more than 8x10, but I suspect that with a little work on my part, this camera could do much larger sized prints.
Despite the megapixel race in the DSLR market, leading to high end and higher end cameras that start at 10MP or up, I think there's a place for nice, light, sturdy, compact and capable camera. I personally can't tell the difference between 10MP and 6MP at 8x10 sizes, and I remember when the high end pro-level dslrs were running at 6MP(it wasn't that long ago). Nikon and Pentax are the last of the companies offering nice 6MP entry level models, and it's kind of a shame. When 6MP looks as good as it does when coming out of this camera, you don't worry about how many pixels, you just look at the prints and mutter "WOW!".

  2. i really love this camera, had it for over a year now and it's still going. AA batteries are great for convenience. if i were to buy it again i'd probably opt for the slightly cheaper (at the time) k110 without the "stabilization" feature. i keep the "stabilization" on when i'm shooting but i wouldn't say it makes much of a difference. also i recommend not buying the default lens with the camera, i went with a sigma 28-300 and it was a great compromise for wide angle and telephoto.

  3. This is the second Pentax SLR that I've had. My first was an *istDL, and I upgraded to this for the image stabilization. The resolution is great, with really low noise levels at all but the highest iso settings. You can use it in completely automatic mode, like a point and shoot camera, and as your ability grows you can opt to use the camera manually as well. The camera is sturdy and well built. It doesn't feel like a cheap toy like some of the other entry level cameras in it's class. I've taken almost 10K pictures with this camera without any trouble at all. I also purchased two sets of the Sanyo Eneloop batteries, which I highly reccomend. I just purchased the K200D for the weather sealing and 10MP sensor, but I will also keep this camera for a backup since I've become so fond of it.

  4. I have an old Pentax KX (film camera) SLR that I refuse to sell. I bought it used over 20 years ago and it still works perfectly, but mostly sits in a drawer now that I have the K100D. I got the K100D because I can use my old lenses from the KX with it. That's very cool. If that doesn't prove to you that Pentax is a great company that loves it's loyal customers, I don't know what will. Many people are stuck in Canon/Nikon land. They make great cameras too, but I'll stick with my Pentax. It does everything I want, and I know Pentax makes sturdy, reliable equipment that lasts a long time. I've had my K100D now for well over a year and I've gotten a ton of use out of it. It's easy to use and feels good in your hand. You can go totally automatic or totally manual, with many choices in between. If this is your first Digital SLR, you'll be very happy with the features and options on this camera. I would also look at the newer Pentax K100D Super 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens which costs more, but adds some features. Either way, you're getting a great camera. Good luck and happy shooting!

  5. If you're thinking of stepping up to a DSLR from your current camera, this is perhaps one of your best choices.

Its right there with the Canon Rebel and the Sony Alpha series.. sure these series are better, but they're also more expensive. If you're like me, just an amateur photographer looking to take your hobby one level up, its a great camera.

It cost me $369 (I bought it from BuyDig), and I bought a couple of Tamron lens for it...You may think 6 MP is a drawback, and maybe it is, but again, you're really not going to notice it unless you're making huge posters!!!

You can initially stick to the AUTO mode for the quick family pictures... and then gradually study the manual to learn the manual controls, you won't regret it. I think the manual could've been more detailed, but I was able to get all I needed off the internet.

  1. I like it lots. I haven't figured it out yet, but its going to be a lot of fun using that wide angle feature of this camera.

  2. This is a great camera, that takes great pictures. I got one for Christmas, and decided we needed 2. The pictures are great, and the videos that it can take are good quality. I would not rely on it as a video camera, but it's handy when you need one.

  3. great deal at $166. not as intuitive to use until you get used to wheel to set modes. i cannot see small symbols on wheel without glasses. screen is nice and big, but lack of viewfinder makes it harder for outdoor shots in sunlight. excellent battery life. fabulous quality pictures with no blur. excellent auto fill in flash for backlit outdoor shots. very pleased with it.

  4. I knew how this camera worked. My boyfriend had one just like it a few years back, so I was obsessed in getting it myself. But in the meantime, the great little camera I knew turned into an even greater camera. Now it makes movies and has a lot of little features that help you take amazing pictures. In three words: I Love It! Always keep it in my purse handy. It's just the greatest little cam I ever had, and people just love my pictures.

  5. Super good purchase. Compact camera with tons and TONS of functions. Very intuitive operating system (had no need for user guide reference). Very good quality photos and unexpectedly for videos also. I liked the inteli-ISO function for low lighting conditions. Best of all, it felt like it had the best price in the market for what I got. I'd definitely recommend this item.

  1. The camera itself if fine but please beware. They show the product weight at 20lbs meaning you will be charged over $40 to ship when the box it arrived in shows 3 lbs.

That said, I really like the camera, it is going to take a while to get through all the features but seems to be far superior to the standard point and clicks I have been using.

  2. I love this camera so much, I purchased it three times.
It has great zoom, nice clear pics on 4MB selection, nice video too. It comes with a 16MB card, which, now that the hi def pics arent 2MB each (about 800k), you can fit more than 8. I purchased a 1 GB card that can hold several hundred pics, as well as decent, good quality video. It comes with FinePix software which allows you to make a Video CD, DVD, etc.. which is nice for special occassions. I purchased a USB XD reader with this to take the card out, and connect directly into my laptop, rather than physically connecting the camera to the laptop. The downside is the long startup time, and its hunger for batteries. Use Energize Lithum batteries. They last at least 50 times longer than regular batteries. Long distance inside pics with ok or dark light dont come out very well, unless you set it for nightpics, and have a tripod. The manual settings are good if you know what they mean. I like the shutter delay while photographing fireworks with a tripod.

  3. The camera is fine as long as nothing goes wrong. Fuji has the worst customer service I have ever delt with. They pass you from one person to another and do everything they can not to help you. Be prepared to deal with the worst customer service in the business. I really hope this helps you.

  4. I love the size, features and cost of this camera. It make it so much easier for me to enjoy taking pictures and knowing that it is helping me get the correct focus and obtaining pictures I am shooting for one reason and seeing other reasons I would have taken the same shot had I seen it originally.

    Great price!

  5. As an owner of a Pentax K-1000, I really like this Fuji S5100. Its simple to use, and the prints come out very nice. I like the feel of this camera because it feels like my SLR. I find the little pocket digitals no different that the old Kodak pocket camera. I like the S5100 for its options and ease of use.

    Congratulations!

  1. I've had this camera for a few years but used disposables more often. Not good for sudden shots. Takes too long to start up, and the flash takes too long as well. By the time both things are done, the moment is gone or everyones tired of posing.

Also, it's never been dropped, wet, left in the sun, set on sand, ect. None of the meny things that could happen to a camera, but it stopped working suddenly. LCD screen is black with lines. Wish I had bought a cannon.

  2. Wow, my DSC-P10 just died yesterday. The screen went all fuzzy and so did the pictures. Based on the other messages here, it seems like this camera just wasn't meant to last longer than a few years. Too bad, for me. This wasn't a cheap camera at the time. I'm buying a Canon next.

  3. ....best money I've ever spent on a camera....and I've had many pre-digital models from all the major makers...

This worked perfectly for the purposeL shirt pocket carry everywhere, exposed to outdoors and none-too-gentle knocks and jolts. It ALWAYS worked. I used it hard and have 10s of thousands of photos from it....got the large memory stick when new...although toward the last few months it needs recharging more often, I have NEVER replaced the battery or had as much as even ONE problem with the unit.

A few things were annoying: slow to respond to shutter button, sometimes would cycle thru battery saver mode turning itself off when I was delayed in deciding when to use it again for a slow series of shots.

I'm in a quandry....it served SO WELL....and now it has been lost or stolen, I can't find it....and I don't know what to replace it with....

  4. I bought this camera almost 3 years ago when it was just released. It still works fine so far, taking very good quality pictures, especially indoor, compared to my friend's cameras of other brands. Only one thing sort of made me disappointed about it is that the battery could not be ejected out after 8 months of the purchase. I was thinking to send it back for repair, but was too busy till it passed one year warranty period. Now the battery still cannot be removed from the camera, but it can be properly charged, and also, even after 3 years, the battery life is good. So, it is not a very big deal for me.

this camera is quite durable, cuz I dropped it on the floor more than 20 times and once I even dropped it with the lens out!

Do not use this camera at very cold area! I visited grand canon a year ago and it was snowy there. I tried to use this camera to take some picts, but the lens kept on coming in and out. So I have to warm it up with my body heat b4 it could properly function.

over all, it is nice camera. I am looking for a ultra thin fancy looked camera now , and very willing to go back to Sony brand becuz of the nice picture quality.

  5. This is a great little camera, but is not a newer model.

PROS: The photos from this camera are fantastic! It's like you can't take
a bad picture! Very easy to upload pics and swap memory sticks.

CONS: The menu is a little difficult to figure out. I used the flash even during
the day. Subjects (people) shouldn't move until the second flash flashes.
Pics still turned out great with the daylight flash. ONE MORE THING - This
camera's software is not compatable with the newer Apple OSX (operating
systems). You can still upload pics but can't use other editing features.

5 comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1K 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom (Black).
  1. This camera is very useful and practical it basicely has alot of functions some which I haven't used yet but I'm getting there. If you are a regular customer looking for the highest quality photos with amazing clarity and thats entirely versatile for landscapes, people and everything else then I highly recomend this Panasonic Lumix LX1 Digital Camera, based on a recomendation from the electronics store and a friend and the fact that it was cost efficient I didn't regret buying this pocket sized camera. It has an Optical image stabilizer which means that the images do not appeare blurry even if your not an expert and the 28mm wide angle lens has an aspect ratio of 16:9 with 8.4 Megapixel LEICA DC VARIO Lens, this camera also has 4x optical zoom with a wide 28mm field of view (35mm) when shooting in the 16:9 aspect ratio at 8 megapixel resolution you also have a quick choice of three aspect modes that you can use this from a switch at the top of the lens barrel you can switch from a normal 4:3,wide 16:9 or the 3:2 used in film cameras.
The manual exposure and manual focus can be used from the small joystick thingy on top of the camera, you'll have a menu system that sets the aperture, shutter speed and focus with your thumb while viewing the LCD monitor. The 2.5 LCD monitor has a high resolution 207,000 pixel and is also good for night time shots you can see everything with the brightness veiwing.
There is a function used in the flexible single switch focusing which includes five modes, there is another function which I thought was pretty awsome The Mega Burst consecutive shooting, you can get 3 frames per second with 5 images in fine mode and 9 images in standard mode.
When I played the images back on the PC I didn't see any faults with the pictures which I thought was amazing since I'm not the best at photographing but I have improved with this camera, it makes things a whole lot easier. I cannot recomend this camera highly enough it is absolutely brilliant and good for traveling or taking pictures indoors its allways going to be usefull. These are some of the contents in the box when you purchase this item you get a battery pack, battery charger, SD Memory card, USB driver, USB connection cable, a cd-rom Lumix simple viewer ect.

  2. I have had just about every digital camera you can mention - but this is the first review I've written. I really wanted to like (actually love) this camera - could not wait to get it! Wow - I.S., 8MP, Leica lens - what else could you want! Well - I also bought a Canon SD700 a few weeks ago too (both cameras still within return dates) so I put them to the test. Bottom line - the Canon won hands down! By the way, I also have a Sony P200 - the Canon is still much better. Back to the Panasonic review - pictures were OK - actually not bad, nothing really special - the 16:9 is nice but the pictures appear smaller so you need to zoom in a bit. However the Canon was just as good even at only 6 MP! I use the video option a lot and don't even bother with my old Video Camera anymore. Over the last two week I went to two weddings and produced very nice little videos for the couples only using the Canon SD700 (no shakes to make people sea sick). Clear and sharp video with that little SD700 (you can even zoom in although it gets pixilated a bit). Unfortunately, the Panasonic is pretty very bad at video, no zooming, blurry, and jumpy - and you also must use .mov format to view vs. the more common .avi for the Canon. On the outside - the Panasonic is larger than the Canon and the lens sticks out and use an old fashioned lens cap - now that would be acceptable if the other functions of the camera we good. All in all - I've returned the Panasonic and will keep the Canon - just one man's (I mean person's) opinion!

  3. I love this camera as an alternative to my Nikon D200 whenever weight or space is an issue. It is one of the few pocket-size cameras on the market that can give you the option to shoot in RAW and offers extensive manual control. The Leica lens is superb and so is the picture quality. Manual control is available for most features I would like to have control over. The controls are easily accessible and intuitive despite the small size of the camera. The 16:9 picture format is great for landscape shots. I use this format most of the time. Image stabilization works very well. Noise is not really an issue if one shots in manual mode with a low ISO. The price is a bit heavy. However, I could not find a comparable camera (RAW format, manual controls, small size etc) at a more competitive price.

I wholeheartedly recommend this camera to any photographer who is looking for a pocket-size camera with extensive manual control and the possibility to shoot in RAW.

  4. I've worked for many years in the photo/video business as a camera operator for some of the top news shows on television and can honestly say this camera is current technology at its best.

It is small, solid and able to take stunning photographs and save as data - raw - for the best in image preservation. Having raw data is to digital what having the original negative is to film.

After using this camera for about a year now I can't report one negative... it is the best point and shoot camera.

It does have small chips and all the attentive drawbacks like low dynamic range, noise at higher iso, blooming highlights, etc.. All digital still cameras under $2000 use small chips.

Use your photography skills to work around the limits and you'll be rewarded with technically outstanding photos... I know a National Geo photog who regularly uses one on assignment. Another friend shot Katrina with one for AP.

It is a very sturdy camera, highly portable, well designed with intuitive controls, and capable to taking fine art quality photos. The wide end of the excellent leica lens is comparable to 28mm in the 35mm format and very clean. In the end analysis, it is a very well engineered piece. In fact, Leica is selling basically the very same camera, but with a titanium body, as the D-lux2... the electronics and glass are the same.... for quite a few more $$$.

One of my all time favorite cameras (and I regularly shoot with cameras that approach six figures - Pro HD video and have worked with stills from hasselblad, nikon, mamiya, contax, leica... )

  5. Not to sound redundant from the other reviews, I'll highlight my pros and cons:

    Pros:
-TRUE 16:9 videos (848x480 pixel MOVs, not the cropped kind. Product description was wrong stating that it can capture only up to 640x480).
-Lengthy 20min video captures if you have a 2GB SD card.
    -16:9 photos
    -28mm wideangle focal length
    -LEICA lens
    -Excellent outdoor photos

    Cons:
    -Indoor video/photo is grainy
-Video captures have less than stellar audio.
    -Cap Lens cover

Overall: Despite is downfalls, its uniqueness compensate for it and sets it apart from many cameras.
