5 comments about Sony MVCCD250 2MP CD Mavica Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.
  1. This summer while I was in a canoe taking pictures of my daughter, she accidently tipped us over. Here I am in a cold mountain lake with my Mavica and I think my camera is ruined. Well when I got home I dried the camera out for a week and cleaned out the lenses. Put in a new battery and the thing ACTUALLY WORKED and has been taking great pictures for the past four months. For something that is not rated as water resistant, I was surprised by the hardiness of the camera.
Complex as it may seem, this is no wuss of hardware.

  2. Not sure if anyone else in this reviewer pile has seen this, but I have had several "life events" including birthdays, my son's sonogram, and others that the camera shows upon review through its display the pictures you have taken. However, upon connecting it to the USB interface, they disappear. Disconnecting from the USB cable does not get the pictures back. Can you believe that Sony would release a product like this?

I bought this device for the ease of use, USB capability, and the CDR/CDRW format. However, for anyone wanting a reliable camera buy a $12 disposable! You can only rely on this unit giving you permanent digital pictures 91.2% of the time.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy this unit. There are far smaller units at a fraction of the price with 100% reliability. Granted, some of them don't use CDR/CDRW technology but memory sticks are fine with me it they don't lose pictures (and the cameras are quite smaller).

  3. I got this as a gift from my parents. They rarely buy me expensive items and when I opened this..I had no idea just how wonderful this camera was. It might not be top of the line..but it produces WONDERFUL photos. I am a scrapbooker and take lots of photos. All of photos I've taken with this camera have received RAVE reviews!! I was told once that I should be a professional photographer!!! - HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA!!

  4. Overall, this camera is GREAT. It takes beautiful pictures, has a good zoom, and doesn't eat up battery life.

However... It takes FOREVER to get the picture recorded onto the CD, and...

IT LOSES PICTURES. We had over ten pictures lost at once on our camera (Sounds like the same problem John McDonnough had in his review). This has only happened once, however.

Otherwise, it has been an absolute GREAT family camera, my family takes it almost everywhere we go (including a family cruise we went on in 04) and the shots were great, even enlarged!

  5. I have had this camera for 6 years and have never had a single problem with it. Recently I took it on my honeymoon and posted the pictures when I returned. I have had people asking me what kind of camera it is because the pictures turned out great! I have never had a picture lost or have had problems deleting pictures as some of the other reviews have stated. It is great to know that all my pictures that I have downloaded to my PC are always backed up on the disc. It is somewhat bulky, but has been more than I would have ever asked for in a digital camera that has lasted this long!

5 comments about Olympus Stylus 780 7.1MP Digital Camera with Dual Image Stabilized 5x Optical Zoom (Black).
  1. I've owned numerous Olympus cameras, and our family uses them to take photos and videos for family DVDs. Being able to take 640x480 video at 30 fps is the main feature I'm looking for.

The specifications said the camera takes 640x480/30fps video, but you have to read the fine print in the instruction manual to see that 640x480 video is capped at 10 seconds. It's difficult to make much use of a 10 second video!

Previous Olympus cameras limited video length only if you didn't have a Type H memory card, but this camera limits video even with a Type H card. The video format has also changed from Quicktime to AVI - perhaps these movies are too large for the speed of the memory card.

Anyway, a 10 second video limit basically makes the camera useless for me, and anyone trying to capture useful video. I feel a little ripped off, because I made my decision specifically on the 640x480/30fps video feature.

  2. I have used this camera in a variety of situations and it doesn't disappoint. The pictures are clear, the zoom capability is a real advantage over the normal 3X optical zoom, and the closeups are awesome. Took pictures in the near-dark of historic potato houses and it brought these musty rooms to life. I could see in the picture what my eyes couldn't see, without glare or unnatural looking light. I put the case on my belt, let the sweater hang over and can draw it out like a pistol. So different from the SLR days when tourist was written all over me. Also my blow-ups have been very clear, at least to 11x14. The only problem is the wash-out on the screen in a bright, sunny day. I learned to compensate for that by holding the camera away from my body and aiming under those conditions. Works about 80% of the time. One usually tries to avoid the sun anyway

  3. Olympus Stylus 830 8MP Digital Camera with Dual Image Stabilized 5x Optical Zoom (Black) My wife had problems with blurry pics and now she is very happy with her picture taking abilities ... she loves this camera!

  4. I bought this camera after doing a lot of comparison shopping. I find the camera to be just fine although nothing spectacular. The pics are good but not great. The scene guide is great for an amature like me. The dual-image stabilization seems to work very well. I am often outdoors when I use this camera so the all-weather nature of this camera is great. The LCD screen is quite nice and big but is worthless in bright light. Attempting to use the panorama mode (if you can find it) is hard and Olympus doesn't publish any information that I have found on how to actually use their software to link images. The image is not clear, washed out, and just plain poor. Another problem is that the video is absolutely terrible. The videos are hazy, blurry, washed out. Pity. My cell phone takes much better videos and it's 2 years old. Anyway, overall, I would not recommend this camera.

UPDATE: I've used this camera for many months now and and ready to throw it in the bin. What a piece of junk. The movies mode is absolutely horrible. The videos are next to useless and the audio cuts out. Additionally, panaorama mode is nowhere to be found, even when using Olympus xD cards of which I have 2. I will not buy another Olympus product!

  5. For the money (I paid about $300) and have been using in for about 6 months in a variety of situations, it is not a good deal. I bought it for the water resistancy, which is about the only good thing besides the size. The LCD is impossible to see in bright light. The icons on the buttons are wearing off already. In very bright light, there is often a white circle near the center of the photograph. I have a 2G card and shoot at high res. At this setting, I get 1163 photos. When I get to about 700 images, I get card error messages. Once I download the photos and re format the card, it was fine. I have used an Olympus C3000 for a long time. An excellent camera, just too bulky. I am so disappointed in this 780!

  1. This is a great camera for travel and everyday events because of its small and convenient size. We bought it to replace our bulkier Sony DSC-F707. The large screen is wonderful! The video feature is a lot of fun but due to the small size it is hard to take a steady video. The battery meter is very useful as it tells you how much time you have left. The main downside with this camera is the flash. It doesn't work well in very dark conditions for distant or even slightly distant shots. If it weren't for the flash, I would have given this a rating of 5 stars. This is overall a good camera.

For more serious digital photography, we prefer to use the Sony DSC-F707 as it has a better flash and zoom. However, it is too bulky to carry around.

  2. This is really a nice point-and-shoot camera. Outdoor pics are really impressible and the clarity is also quite good. The only big problem I noticed about this piece is its night shot mode. Since it does not have any outside flash, the night pics are not good as expected from Sony. The indoor pics are also affected by the same problem.

  3. I had this camera a little over 3 mo when the snap-open lens cap started to jam. This causes the camera to power back down. I can usually jimmy the cap a little with my finger and get it working after a couple tries. It does add a little time to the otherwise lightning fast power-up though. Yes, right here I should have sent the camera in but I needed it for, I don't know, taking pictures...

Next problem cropped up 6 months later, the docking station stopped charging the camera and downloading pictures. I ordered a separate battery charger and I have a memory slot on my laptop that reads MS so I've kind of worked through it.

Now 4 months later the flash is only firing 1 out of 10 times. Of course it waits until now to develop a problem I can't live with.

13 months total and I have a camera that doesn't power up, charge, download or take pictures inside. Other than the listed issues I love this camera, it is fast, pictures are sharp all in a tiny package.

FYI this camera has not been treated harshly. Now, while it's in the shop, I have no camera and will no doubt be adding to the original $600 price tag

  4. I had this camera for about three years. I have taken it to four continents and about 20 plus countries. it with stood being slammed around and banged up all up and down central america and china and Europe. It takes great pictures and is extremely easy to use. I would recommend it for anyone traveling or that wants a nice and easy camera. the only bad part about it is that it doesnt have a very fast film option so that night pictures are not that good if you get out of the range of the flash. I finally managed to break the screen and it is cheaper to get another camera than to replace the screen.

  5. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RN50XPK2J6U6O My friend bought this camera about three years ago. I have another camera, but I am constantly borrowing his Sony Cybershot instead of using mine. It took us a while to start using the video feature, but we love it.

We like the flash feature, which works well for inside pictures and to fill in outside in the sunlight. The red eye reduction feature is helpful. The view screen is large enough to enjoy. We love the compact size.

My friend wishes he could get a better view than 3X telephoto in the video mode.

He is very satisfied with his camera and enjoys it when he gets an opportunity to use it. Obviously, I like it too.

    Here is a sample video.
