- I have yet to learn all the great functionality, but so far I'm very pleased with the ease of use and the picture quality. Can't wait to take it rafting to see how it does while wet!
- What an awesome camera! Loving the waterproof & shockproof feature, takes awesome pictures when moving! Loving all the lil extras like the case and cleaning cloth and tripod! Takes really good videos, especially underwater! Can't wait to take this back out on vacation, this time I'll get all my pictures! (unlike my old camera!) I love that it works down to 14 degrees, I live in Alaska, so I'll be able to use it this winter! The perfect camera set up for use at home or at work! My husband and I are very pleased with this camera and we are so happy that we upgraded to way better camera! You have to get this one!

- DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA!! I am not a digital camera novice so when I read the negative reviews, I assumed they just didn't know what they were doing. Well, I was wrong, this camera is horrible! It takes great shots outside but you can't tell that when you take them b/c of the lack of a viewfinder, it is all but impossible to see the picture you are taking. That's just a minor inconvience though. The major problem is that all of the pictures of my daughter's first 4 months of life are so grainy as to be unusable. This camera is the worst I have ever used indoors. No matter what setting you use, it is terrible! Unless you only plan on using it outdoors in the shade, do not buy this camera! I will never be able to regain those pictures, I hope you make the smart choice & don't have to go thru the same thing.
- Takes great outdoor pictures. Indoor pictures are not the same. I took more blurry indoor pictures from this camera than all my cameras combined. Recommend to leave the flash on at all times to minimize this problem. Using the image stabilizer indoor tend to produce pictures that are too dark to be any good. Using the zoom indoor for long distance shots tend to produce blurry pictures as well unless the camera is placed on a tripod. I would not buy this camera for the zooming or image stabilizing feature.
- I have had my Olympus 740 for about a year. I mostly take photos of my now 18 month old. I usually get photos of where he just was because it takes so long to take the picture! Also, if I take pictures in the school gym, like for the school concerts, they ALL come out blurry. I thought that perhaps I just needed a professional camera, but then tried my sister-in-law's point and shoot fuji camera (can't recall the model) and it was WAY faster! And the photos she e-mails me are a lot sharper and have better color. My olympus has a lot of "features." I do like the candle light option, and I like the one when you hold the trigger down and it takes a bunch of pictures one after the other. But it usually takes about 8 seconds between shots. Thats too long if your subject is moving, or if you want to capture a cute or funny moment. If you want great photographs, look elsewhere.
- I usually follow Consumer Report in everything I buy but decided to go off the beaten track this one time as I thought their choices were out-dated. I should have gone with their reviews. Maybe I don't know how to use this but I have never taken so many blurry pictures in my life. I have considered getting my old film camera out and using that again instead. I tried to take several pictures of my son goign down a little hill on his sled but none turned out, all blurry and/or too dark. I was very disappointed as we were visiting grandma and we don't get snow where we live so this was a one-time opporuntiy. I like being able to carry it in my purase at all times to take last minute shots but what good is it if they don't turn out. I'm constantly correcting them in Photo Shop and there is only so far you can go before they start looking grainy. Anyway had I not waited a year to really try it out I would have returned it and checked with Consumer Report to see what would be a good buy. I still may just give this to my 4-yr old son and get a better camera for me. We didn't get nearly as many good shots on our Disney vacation as I would have like. Like one other reviewer said it takes too long for the photo to take and you miss alot when you're taking pictures of children.
- I have purchased 3 of the 740's mainly for the 5x optical and wish they did not discontinue this model. It does everything I need in a ultracompact digital camera. Great camera and great service from Amazon with putting me in touch with reputable sellers. Thanks John Anderson

- Nice camera for the money - solidly built and easy to use. Also uses AA batteries instead of the ion battery which is becoming popular. That's a positive for me, as I can carry extra batteries much easier than buying an extra ion battery. I'm sure there's a reason why it is less expensive than other cameras, but so far, have not found it.

5 comments about Minolta Dimage 7i 5MP Digital Camera w/ 7x Optical Zoom.
- I have heard bad reviews that this particular camera eats batteries, but I have not had any problems with batteries being used up fast. My last camera, which was only 2.2 Megapixels ate batteries much faster than the Dimage 7i. The picture quality is excellent. When the camera is taking pictures in it's best quality, you can see those minute blemishes that you don't usually notice in pictures. This camera is by far the best that I have ever tried. Highly reccommended to buy if you are in the market for a 5.0+ megapixel camera.
- I have just had the camera a few days now. As for all the gadgets, its gonna take a while to pick up on all those. Right now I am using it mostly on automatic and casually venturing from that to different settings and comparing to my other digital cameras.
First, I love the 5 mp setting, the camera was very easy to pick up and start right out using .. (like most guys do) I am impressed with the quality of the pictures. I like the fact that everything is pretty much straight forward. The camera fires up quickly. I tested it with a romote flash sorta like a fill in and it worked flawlessly. The compact flash memory cards are fairly inexpensive and small so you can have a few backups for those multi picture extravaganzas. The one thing I would love to see addressed on the camera is the batteries... it would be nice to see minolta come with a battery, rechargable, rather than tring to keep up with two or three sets of AA s ... The instruction book... (guess I will have to read or at least review sooner or later ) looks like it covers pretty much anything you can run accross. Would I recommend this camera? Yes I would but not for the inexperienced guy... when you first look at this camera... there seems to be a lot to digest... but all in all... Love it!
- I own two Minolta Dimage 7i cameras. The first one took beautiful photographs. I had it only nine months when the manual zoom adjustment started acting up. Within a week the lens fell out in my hand. Calling a few camera shops I was quoted average $300+ for parts and labor to repair it. I could buy a used one for less. Since I had recently gotten a TTL flash, and had several lenses and wired remote for the 7i, and was quite happy with the quality of the photos, I decided to buy a used one to replace the broken one.
The first photos I took with the replacement camera were very noisy, washed out color, and not true-color. I attributed it to low light, it was evening, and maybe I hadn't adjusted somthing right. After taking more photos over the next week I came to realize that this camera just took bad photos. Very noisy, the auto focus rarely focused correctly like my first one had, it took terrible photographs. I even upgraded the flash rom to the latest one available on the Minolta web site. This didn't help. Then I started noticing there were small differences in the two camera bodies, so checked their serial numbers. My first one that took beautiful photos has a serial number in the 290,000 range, the replacement camera serial number is in the 94,000,000 range. A much newer camera and obviously made with inferior cheaper parts than the older one.
I had owned the newer one about two months, and hadn't taken that many photographs with it because they come out terrible, most are unusable photos, when the manual focus ring started acting up just like my first one had. My heart sank into my stomach. I know what it means.. it won't be long before the lens falls off this camera too. I havn't taken many photos with it since because I know it's life isn't long.
I don't know when I'll be able to afford to buy another camera to replace it. But I know one thing for sure... it won't be a Minolta.
Don 'Duck' Landes
- i can only say that i wish i could have afforded the $1100 dollars new
price in 2002 because the image quality of the 7i is increadable.
- I got this camera *years* ago! I still work with it occasionally, but back in it's hayday, I used it for bulb photography with lightning. The plus was using infinity and not autofocus (because the autofocus is horrendous), but the negatives were a maximum 60 second bulb and lots of noise. Of course, back when this camera was $1,000+, it was pretty good. Still, in the daylight it takes beautifully vivid photos. I upgraded the firmware on it just before Konica halted the production of all cameras, which was supposed to fix the autofocus, but didn't make any difference to me. It's been through rain, snow and heat and has still held up. She's probably been through at least 10,000 pictures (lots of lightning photos that contained no lightning, probably every 95 in 100 were deleted). Very robust. Still gets four stars despite it's problems. I'll keep it til it dies!

5 comments about Samsung SPH A840 - Cellular phone with digital camera - Sprint Nextel - CDMA2000 1X / AMPS - black silver.
- I've had this phone for just over a year, and my daughter has one as well. Since Sprint had a Buy One Get One Free (BoGo) deal going on it when we switched, we thought we were getting a good deal. Now we know why it was a BoGo, they wanted rid of the junky things! My number one complaint is that it constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY shuts itself off. Hers does this too. If there'd be an emergency and I would need to reach her or be reached myself, chances are it's not going to work. It's the most unreliable phone I've ever had in my 12 years of owning cell phones.
In addition to the shutoff issue, the keyboard is very sluggish, it locks up a lot and has to have the battery removed and be rebooted, the side buttons are always triggering the voice mode (having it in your pocket and all of a sudden it says "Say a Command" can be very embarassing!), and the charger input has to be jostled just right in order to get it to charge. Every issue it has, the 2nd phone has as well so it's not just this phone.
On one good note, you can wash it and it will still work after drying out. I accidentally left it in my jeans pocket about a month ago. Unfortunately, washing it did not make any of the problems go away.
So, I guess if you want a washer safe piece of garbage that is totally unreliable then this is the phone for you.
- I've never had a problem with my phone! Granted, the people who have, I understand. That said, the phone is compact, the sound is clear, the "bells and whistles" are just right...for me. I have 2 digital cameras already, so having a phone that doesn't have digital camera quality pics is no big deal. It works in a pinch when I need it. All in all, I really love this phone.
- I've had this phone for about 7 months now. Here are my complaints:
1. Buggy. Sometimes it says I have 27 new messages when I only have 1. sometimes it says I missed a call from John when it was actually a call from Matt. Sometimes it just powers off by itself.
2. Samsung and sprint have dealt with this really terribly. the phone is still under warranty, so I ought to be able to get a new one that works. I went to a sprint store to inquire about thsi and they sent me to a different sprint store (one that can deal with technical issues). that sprint store is very far from my house and was difficult to find. when i finally got there, the people there said that if I didn't purchase sprint's insurance (i didn't) they couldn't help me, and i should call samsung. SAMSUNG'S CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL. i called samsung and waited on hold for about 40 minutes. i talked to a technician who advised me to go to sprint. i told him that i had already gone to sprint, and that they told me to go to samsung. he said that if I really wanted I coud just send in the phone for a repair, but that they would have the phone for 15 TO 21 BUSINESS DAYS, and they would probably just update the software (which sprint could do in a few minutes). I asked if I could speak to a manager. I waited on hold for about 20 minutes. I spoke to the manager for about 5 minutes and he just said the same thing as the first guy. I decided to just send the phone in, but to do that, he had to transfer me to a technician. I waited on hold for 20 minutes and then gave up. The call was about 1 hour and 25 minutes total. I"m totally disgusted with samsung and sprint both.
- My wife and I both have these phones (soon to be past tense). They both did fine the first 8 or so months and then they developed issues with poor reception, turning themselves off when you close the clamshell, etc. Both phones have been serviced numerous times by the Sprint repair person who finally agreed to replace them with Sanyos. She said that she's seen lots of these phones in for service and would not recommend them.
- I have had this phone for nearly two years now. I got a great deal from Sprint at the time (Double my old plan's anytime minutes, nights and weekends at 6pm, etc.), and they gave me a 150.00 credit towards a new phone. I saw this one in the Sprint store and loved the way it looks. That is its only redeeming quality. I'll list all the problems I've had with this phone in two years:
1. Random and unavoidalbe power-downs.
2. Poor battery life.
3. When you are writing a text and you receive a new one, the phone deletes the text you were working on to display the newly received one.
4. Sometimes the phone can hold 100 texts in the inbox, other times it can hold 65, other times, 89. The phone makes NO sense with memory management.
5. The phone deletes incoming texts rather than the oldest text EVEN WHEN YOU SET IT TO DELETE THE OLDEST TEXT.
6. Bad voice quality (people are hard to understand on this phone).
7. No MP3 support.
8. Poor camera quality (I know it's a phone, but I've seen better cameras on other camera phones)
9. Extremely sensitive side buttons (I've taken numerous shots of my pants pocket because of the touchy camera button on the side)
In the end the charger connection to the phone broke 1 month before I was eligable for the phone upgrade service for Sprint customers. I'm now dropping this phone for the Sony Ericson w810i and I'm jumping over to Cingular and dropping Sprint. Sprint really needs to get some better phones for its service. The phone is aweful, avoid it at all costs.

- This camera has met and exceeded my expectations. 6 megapixels is the perfect amount of resolution and the camera is small enough to carry around without having something clanky in your pocket.
- i bought this camera for my sister who is pretty irresponsible with electronics and definitely not a techie. she does, however, love to take pictures! she was able to use this camera easily, and the design of the lens (it moves WITHIN the camera) prevents the "accidents" that she is prone to. i am not a tech or photo genius but i do do my research and keep up to date on the latest info. i, too, enjoy photo-documenting my life. i was very happy with the ease of use, the size of the lcd screen, and, most importantly, the image quality in both electronic and printed form. now that there are some newer models of this camera out, this should drop in price. i'm sure it will be an excellent bargain in the near future!

- twixt my gf and I we have owned this sony as T7 T9 T10. They are all great point and shoot cameras. Easy to pocket, quick in action. I had to buy another t9, because I got dumped in the surf with my previous T9, but the waterproof housing was elsewhere. Each waterproof housing being model specific, because buttons move, I stayed with the 9, as the 10 is a modest modification.

5 comments about Sony Cybershot DSCL1 4MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver).
- Wanted a small, but good camera. Went with Sony due to their reputation for good products. We have only had this for a year and it already broke. There seems to be a steady humming coming from it as if a fan is stuck on. When you make a movie with it, that is all you hear. Picture quality is awful. Not impressed at all!!!
- I wanted a nice small digital camera just to have to take pictures. My grandma bought me this one. I was pleased with it for awhile, it's small, portable, light and easy to take pictures with that the quality are pretty good, all things considered.
Although, only about 5-6 months after receiving it, it broke. It started making this annoying clicking sound and the lens wouldn't emerge, the only thing it did was display pictures...
Since it was still under warranty, I sent it in and had it repaired for free. Then it was great...
It broke a few months later, the same problem, only this time it wasn't under the one year warranty and it'd cost over a hundred to repair it... and I could just get a different camera with that money...
So this isn't the best choice... though maybe I just got a defective camera.
- This was not a cheap camera. We paid over $200.00 for it, trusting the Sony name for quality. First of all the buttons are very small so if you have larger fingers, you may not like the controls. Secondly, it does not take the photos as quick as a digital of this caliber should, often photos turned out blurry. Additionally, our camera broke while still under warranty, we had to pay to have it shipped to a service center and were required to add insurance and only use UPS shipping, all of which cost over $15.00. The camera was returned to us and worked for about a month and then the same problem happened, however this time it was not under warranty and Sony would not cover the repair unless we paid $112.00 for the repair service, plus additional shipping.
What a waste of money this purchase was!
- I've had this camera since 2005 and I love it. It works everytime and anytime I use it. I'm very OCD about taking care of my stuff so I guess that's why it has lasted this long. I think as a everyday camera, it's great. But as a rugged high-usage camera, forget it. I worked at one of those electronics stores in the camera dept and I got so many returns on this little camera. What was the #1 reason? It didn't last through wear and tear of heavy usage. Many people mistake the small size as durability. Sony makes good cameras but this one is not for rookie camera folks. I would recommend getting a Kodak or Canon SureShot as a first camera, then graduate yourself to this one. People complain that their pictures aren't good in dark/low lighting. Well, of course! The tiny flash on this thing isn't going to make a big impact on the lighting of your pictures. If you actually go through and read many reviews of different cameras, you'll find that dark/low lighting settings are not advisable for ANY digital camera. I have to admit, the screen is horribly small so be prepared to squint a lot. Otherwise, I believe this camera is well worth the money because it does what it is made for.
- I've had this camera since 2005 and it's still going strong. Battery life seems like forever. Quality of pictures hasn't diminished in these three years. It's taken quite a beating cosmetically but hasn't had one problem. Sony=quality.

- Well, at first I was impressed I got my new snappy camera with all the cool features and wow I could use AA batteries.. wait a sec.. 25 pics and I need to change batteries?!?! omg! You sooooo need rechargable batteries for this one or you will go broke!
There is sluggish focus on zoom, although it does zoom tight you have to wait for it ... wait for it.. wait for it.. I got the camera because I needed to photograph small jewelry items for my eBay store.. yikes.. this one is horrible in low lighting situations either you get flash glair or the image is too dark...
Print out and monitor displays ok.
Guess what it's 8 months after I bought this and the thing will not focus at all, the lens won't open and it is useless to me now.. Granted I use it daily.. Maybe let it rest on Sundays..
SO now I am searching for a new camera.. I'll just go pluck some more 100.00 bills off my tree...
PASS ON THIS ONE!
- I bought this camera right before a trip to Hawaii, and i was incredibly happy with the results for the price. Now that i've used the camera on more of a regular basis, i'm in the market for a new one.
While outdoor shots, regardless of the lighting look wonderful, the indoor shots are consistently poor. There are settings on the camera for different types of indoor lighting, but i've never used them because it's too tedious to get to them through the menu.
While usually not bad at all, the lag time after the flash is used is very long. Whenever people want to see their photos right after they're taken, i have to make them wait a couple of seconds for the display to come back on.
If you're looking for an inexpensive camera and most of your shots will be outdoors, this camera is great. Otherwise, there are (hopefully) better cameras out there.
- I purchased the L2 prior to a trip to Rome, due to the fact it was small, and easy to carry. It's also easy to operate, and not too expensive, so I can hand it over to another tourist and they can snap away at me in front of old stuff. In the store, it took some nice pics in the right light, so I bought it, and thought it would be fine.
I got some nice photos in Italy, but I would say over half the pics I took ( over 4 Gig) turned out either too dark, black or blurry.
The shutter, flash speed is way too slow, if your subject moves at all, even on sports mode, it's a blur. If the lighting is wrong, it's a blur. The flash is basically worthless after about 5 feet.
I mostly used the default setting on the whole trip with a few exceptions, and I know it has many options.
But a camera should be able to point and click and give you an acceptable shot,...you should not have to access the menu every time to get something useable.
Actually, I wish I had never bought it, it's just too unpredictable...maybe I got a bad one, but after 2 previous quirky Nikon cameras, I think I'll go back to a Canon.
- I've had this camera for about two years now and find myself so often frustrated with it that I have taken many fewer photos with it than I had planned. The biggest problem is one stated by a few others - for each shot you basically need to choose a setting, which means going to the menu and switching each time you take a different type photo. I took pictures at my daughter's indoor pool party and wanted to tear out my hair - if I took a close up of a few of the kids, I would then need to quickly change the setting (to which one?) for a group splashing in the water, then change again for a group photo far away, and then go the menu again to figure out which setting to use for kids sliding down the big slide - do I use indoor party? Fireworks? sports? the results would be so different each time I ended up spending too much time deciding on the correct setting and not enough time taking pictures that I didn't need to erase. Many photos were blurry, or dark and it took too much time between shooting photos. Meanwhile my husband was busy taking closeups, action shots and group photos with his small canon and his pictures were great.
I really can't recommend this camera for an adult - I am going to give it to my 10 year old to use and buy myself something else.
- I've had this camera for 18 months now, and no matter how I set it up, regardless of the situation... 90% of the pics are terrible! Always blurry, always dark. I have fiddled around with the settings trying to find the right balance, and there isn't one! After reading other reviews, I presume that I purchased a faulty one! Shame on me for not taking it back sooner! I do not recommend this POS and simply suggest spending a little extra money for a D-SLR. Trust me, you will be much happier in the end. (Sorry Nikon... I love my D200, but this thing stinks!)
