5 comments about Canon PowerShot S50 5MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom.
- The S50 was my first foray into digital photography, and after reading reviews online, I bought one 2.5 years ago.
What I liked:
1.) Nonproprietary memory (uses CF cards). Newer Canons use SD cards mostly (I believe).
2.) Flexibility: sized slightly larger than a compact (and quite a bit heaver), but full functioned. I was coming from a 35mm SLR and wanted to have some control over my shots without shelling out a few thousand for a digital SLR (at that time).
3.) Good optics. Don't remember which review I read that tested the optical characteristics of the camera[...] but it was among the best of the time.
What I didn't like:
1.) Bulk: It's a bit heavy and too bulky for a pocket.
2.) Proprietary battery. Life is decent, however. I can usually get a full day's shooting on one battery. I have a backup "just in case" that I have only had to use on really heavy shooting days (over 150 shots or so).
It's survived a number of trips with me around the world and I love the thing. It got me into digital photography and I'm back in the market for another (probably) Canon compact for my wife. Eventually, I'll dive into a digital SLR....
5/5 to Canon!
- the powershot s50 will not turn on anymore sinse the siding lens cover wonnt work right and canon wants 139.00 to fix !!! Im never buying a canon camera agine!!!
- I see I am not the only one who had a problem with the lens cover. When you slide it one way, it turns the camera on and then you slide it back to turn it off. I bought this camera about 3 years ago and several months ago, when I closed the lens cover after snapping some pictures, I felt it go past the stop point it usually did. Then I noticed the lens cover had become loose. It is even looser now and the camera is still working but I have to be very careful with it. I am afraid it is only a matter of time before it stops working thanks to the loose lens cover. Local camera shops send out digital cameras to be repaired and Canon will not even look at it for less than $150 since it is out of warranty. I will eventually buy a new digital camera and then maybe I will take the chance of looking at this thing myself by taking it apart. It could be just some little thing that could be tightened up, but taking it apart could also ruin the camera for all I know.
- I love this camera. I've had it for 8 years and it takes the best shots. I get compliments all the time on my shots and I know nothing about photography, just that I like great shots of faces. I've gotten better shots of ym family with this camera then I get at professional photography places.
The camera does it all. We have tons of videos of our daughters first moments from this camera even though we have a camcorder because it's easier to snap quick pictures and movies with. And we post them on the internet really fast where our camcorder takes much more effort. I've dropped this thing a million times and it sat in water once or twice. The frame is scarred and wounded from my gross mistreatment yet the thing still takes the best pictures ever. The quality of my pictures has never gone down. This was by far the best investment I've ever made. I've never been disappointed by this camera. I love it! The only thing I did was get a huge memory card so I could take more shots while on vacation.
- Is this the best camera that Canon can give for more than $400? Like other Canon Powershot S50, mine broke after 3 years. It seems to be innevitible for this model. If you want something last longer than 3 years, go for other brands. No Canon anymore.

1 comments about Nikon Coolpix S52 Digital Camera Kit.Midnight Black With 1GB SD Memory Card, Camera Case, Spare EN-EL8 Type Lithium-ion Battery. 2 Year Extended Service Coverage.
- Nikon S52 appears to be a well made high quality camera that can be very simple to use, especially for persons with mental difficulties resulting from stroke or trauma and can't handle complex camera features. It also has really nice technical features for the more advanced camera buff, but you do not need to exercise them to get great pictures. The Adorama Camera supplier was very prompt and the item was recived in well packed condition to assure no damage during shipment. I researched all the compact cameras available and this was the only one that had the desired simplicity while also having advanced features. It's very small, the 3x zoom lens is internal to the camera and we are delighted with it. The kit has the basic needs (e.g., camera, case, memory card, communication cables, A/C adaptor and extra battery, plus a 2 year additional Nikon Warranty (3 years in all)). The kit is still available from Adorama Camera. We got the crimson red version.

5 comments about Fujifilm Finepix S2 Pro 6.17MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).
- I just bought this thing from Amazon and all I can say
is WOW!!!! This is probably the best purchase I have ever made. This thing is everything I ever expected and more!! It's very easy to use as well! I have bought other brands before, and this one just blows everything else out of the water! I have to say, everyone out there who is thinking of buying this, stop thinking. I bought it and I am extremely happy with it the moment I powered this thing on. YOU ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS PURCHASE! I GUARANTEE IT!!!
- Fuji's s2 is just so-so compared with NIkon and Canon.
The imag is soft and color is not right 8 out of 10.
will buy 20d
- Excellent value in this camera for the price. Camera is well balanced & feels good to hold.Quick in raw mode to record especially with new high speed fuji compact flash cards transfer rate being 6mb per second .... writing files @ 12mb!
This giving around 76 images per 1 GB card.Puchased seperatley a Nikon 24>120mm zoom which I'm also very happy especially with its zoom range & image stalisation, lense works fine & balances well with Camera body.Fuji S2 controls are well laid out & easy to use.Has both firewire & USB connection.
Gripes:- image through view finder is a bit too small likewise LCD..could be bigger say 2.5 cm. Second battery type is 123a bit of a pain as expensive & not rechargable (REQUIRES 2).Also 4 NiMetal Hydride AA'S can be used which are rechargable...these work fine...no complaints here .RAW images cannot be used in older versions of Photo Shop.
Photo Shop CS perhaps has conversion for Fuji RAW format. A light edition Raw format converter is supplied on cd, as is Adobe Elements. The S2 is also supplied with software on CD to convert Raw images to Tiff.Camera has accurate exposure & good tonal qualities... resolution is also greater than other digital 6mp slr's...interesting to see how S3 Pro turns out...& how it stacks up against the likes of Canon D20.
- I've had an S2 for three years or so (just replaced it with an S3), and I've found that the battery life is VERY dependent upon use of the rear-panel color LCD display.
I spent three weeks in the UK in 2004 with the S2 and no charger, so I made a major effort not to play with the color display. I went nearly all three weeks and took 1800 pictures on three sets of NiMH batteries (I finally put a set of alkalines in two days before the end of the trip).
The Lithium cell life depends mostly on flash usage. I usually got four to six months on a set. If one dies in the field, you can use the camera without them. Only the flash doesn't work.
- I am a photographer and i have the Fujifilm Finepix S2 and i LOVE IT!!!
If you are looking for a good (easy to use camera) then this is the one to buy! It does GREAT black and whites. Color is ok on it.....you just have to work with it. But over all GREAT CAMERA!

5 comments about Kensington VideoCAM VGA Digital PC Camera (PC and Mac).
- This webcam has to be one of the pickiest cameras in existance. Kensington's drivers are all-out horrid. It's NT compatibility is NIL. I'm not sure how it works on a MAC but its perfectly unstable on a PC, crashes my system alot, the VideoCAMWorks software only gets worse as Kensington comes out with new releases (one new version over the past year). If you're looking for a webcam whose maker will release decent patches to drivers, etc... you haven't found it. Performance is ugly too. I don't reccomend setting it up in low-light conditions.
- I still can't believe how much of a waste this video camera is. Granted, it was cheap, but I never expected anything like this. The picture is awful, and you have to have a light behind the camera for anyone to see you (or anything else for that matter), otherwise everything looks awful. Not to mention the terribly grainy picture, and the very low quality. Also, the manual focus makes it really difficult to take pictures of anything except when you're standing still. Don't buy this, it's NOT worth the agony (nor only being able to use it in Windows ME or 98).
- Poor picture quality, lousy frame rate, mediocre software, and terrible in low light. These might be forgivable in an entry-level camera, but the showstopper is that the software doesn't work in anything newer than Windows 98 or Mac OS 9.x and Kensington has no plans to update it.
If you're looking for a camera from a company that makes good products and actually supports them, Kensingon ain't your bag.
- I find this camera to be surprisingly good, although the image quality can be grainy in low light conditions. It picks up well in low light conditions and hasn't given me any problems so far. I run it on a Apple Macintosh Powerbook G4 on iVisit, a chat program and it runs fine in both Classic mode in OS X .1.3 and OS 9.2.2
Sure beats many of the expensive cams I've tried to use with my Mac but fail to work with OS X in classic mode.
- I have tried the Kensington webcam on three different computers. running win98 and all three systems crash after a few hours of having the webcam on.
I now find that after upgrading to win2000 (thinking this will fix my problems) I find that there is no driver to run the camera but if you read the help files Kensington offer to refund your money. Return this camera ASAP - it is rubbish. Even for the short times when it did work - the picture quality is bad. The software that came with this product is very limited. Most other cameras come with much better specs and software. Although a very economical camera - you can get much better for less!

5 comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9K 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom (Black).
- I'm enjoying my first digital experience with this sleek little bug. It has the larger screen, quick start up and shutter response, as well as good battery life. Does anyone know how to get it to stamp the date on the picture? I prefer not to use military time and would like the format 5/8/2006.
- I bought this camera, the anti shake is good but the auto white balance sucks, i never realized the value of the feature until i got this camera. if you take flash pictures they came out fine but then if you switch to no flash they come out very yellow, and if non flash where good then the flashed photos came out very blue...
- Excellent digital camera for the cost. Just about 2 years now and the only problem I've found is that the dial slighly slips between playback and picture taking mode but apart from that the images are excellent. Easy to use menu and the image stabilization works great ... did a firework shot witout a tripod and it came out perfect.
I've paid about the same price as it is now about 2 years ago so obviously Panasonic is doing wonders with staying power.
- I have had this camera for sometime and I have always had good daytime shots, nights shots are inconsistent and with adjustments in many case it is fine. It was one of the first image stablizers and it works the camera is nice and small has a good look and feel and the screen is fine. As for a protector, all of them should come with one period, however, I am always conscious of the screen and thus have virtually no scrathes even with all the use and travel the camera has had. The 6.0mp is more than enough. Unless you are printing huge photos the 6.0 for online, web, email or 4x6 prints is just fine.
- cant believe this little camera does such a great job.
i have lots and lots of cameras i this is the winner.
i got this really cheap on ebay for my kids and im going to buy it for the whole family !
its fast ! its very colorful pics and sharp! what else you want !
i do recommend this camera.

2 comments about Nikon Coolpix S5 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (White).
- Noise is not noticeable at Iso 50 and even at Iso 100.
Star-up is quite fast, the camera is ready to shoot at just 2 seconds.
The lag between shot and shot is slow, u have to wait no less than 3.5 seconds before taking the next shot.
The Nikon S5 is made of metal, the look is really good very stilish and pocketable (super slim).
IMHO a huge limitation on the S5 is the lack of manual controls to set the aperture and the shutter speed. Also the built-in flash is quite weak
Id buy again this item
- The S5 provides a simple point-and-shoot digital platform for amateurs and novice photographers. It allows you a decent amount of control over your settings while still providing good auto settings.
Incredibly fast to power on and pocket-sized, this camera is ideal for point-and-shoot digital photography.
