5 comments about Canon PowerShot G6 7.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom.
- This is my third digital camera I have owned, and it is by far the best. It takes wonderful pictures (excellent I must say!) and the rechargeable batteries do last a long time without having to recharge them all the time. I can take about a hundred pictures before I think about recharging them. Yes, I do take pics with the LCD on. I do not find that it is slow turning on and getting ready for the first shot. Mine is really fast. Also, buy a compactflash card that has a 20 MB/sec sequential read/write speed (SanDisk SDCFX3-2048-901 2 GB Extreme III CompactFlash Card). With this type of card you will be able to take your next shot immediately.
- The Canon Powershot G6 is a nice amera, Physically the camera looks a bit different than the G5, the G6 is narrower and stubbier. The extra Girth supported by the G6 makes it easier to handle than its predecessors. especially those with large hands like me.
What i like about this camera is the 9 point auto focus point, which it got from the higher end SLR professional cameras. Normally, to focus on a subject one has to aim using the center of the camera, where the focusing point is. but what if you want to put some artistic flare into your photo, and what if you have to subjects that are not aligned? by having the 9 auto focus point spread throughout the viewing area, when you press the shutter half way, the camera instantly focuses on all the subjects. it instantly puts squares over what you have in the frame indicating That it has locked on. it will then adjust the settings and the light to give you the best possible shot. The downside of this camera is that it is expensive.
Whether your an amateur enthusiast or a serious Photographer on the verge of going pro the Canon G6 is for you.
- I purchased this camera in July 2005. I have taken thousands of pictures with this camera. It's easy to operate. The camera has a lot of functionality to it. It's great for those of us who don't want to move up to a DSLR.
In the two-plus years I've owned the camera, I've not had one problem with it. It just survived a trip to the races at the dirt track in Wheatland, MO.
- I got this camera in early 05 and have been thrilled with it. It has been banged around, dropped, spilled on, etc and never had a problem. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
- Had a Canon G6 years ago, gave it up for a Digital Rebel. After a myriad of other cameras i got a used G6 with bent CF pins for $10 and straightened the pins. Figured I would sell it and now finding myself selling one of my other cameras instead. This is a wonderful little camera, high resolution, don't expect anything higher than ISO 100 to be great, then again don't expect any compact to be great over 100. Its usable all the way up to 400 but i tend to not shoot over ISO 50 anyways.

5 comments about HP Photosmart R717 6.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.
- Love this camera - I used it as lot in the last few weeks and I am pleased
in every aspect. Good size, easy to use, great pictures-
- I love this camera, but a few seconds delay with clicking the shutter means I miss nearly all the quick smiles of my baby. Other than that, this is a nearly perfect camera. Perfect size, great shots, rechargable battery, nice LCD....great!
- I bought this camera due to the great reveiws on Amazon. This is my first digital camera. I've been very impressed with the shots it takes, and with the ease it is to operate it. The on-screen guide is very helpful, especially since I consider myself "low-tech". So, really, "my" 5 stars goes to both the camera, and all those who reviewed it before the end of 2006.
- This is my first digital camera. Previous to my purchase of this item, I had no knowledge of digital cameras at all but, after reading the manual and with a little practice, I was able to take fairly decent pictures and understand and utilize the various features of the camera. I purchased a 512 MB chip and was able to transfer the images to my computer with ease.
- This camera was gifted to me by my parents before a trip to China. I really liked it and thought it was great. However, 12 months later, the camera bought the farm. I had a huge event coming up at this time and wanted a camera very quick that I knew how to use, so, stupid me, ordered the same camera, thinking the 1 year lifespan had to have been a fluke. Guess what? My 2nd HP R717 lasted for 13 months before it died ! Mind, I was not spilling soda on it or dropping the things either...too bad I can't get my money back - over $400 spent on these things. I feel ashamed, and so should HP.

5 comments about Casio Exilim EX-Z1050 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Anti Shake Optical Zoom (Pink).
- Bought for my wife who is a heavy camera user. After about a year of use, the lens has hung and won't retract. Seems to be a common failure mode for the unit.
Does take good pictures and videos. Just don't expect it to survive more that a year of so if you are a moderate to heavy user.
- I had my camer for about a year. It went to Hawaii twice with me and I thought it was the best 400 dollars I had spent!
Little did I know that these cameras are.. well, defective. Suddenly one day, my zoom wouldn't work. Then I realized my menu buttons didn't work. THEN I realized that the only button that DID work was the button to take a picture (which it still does). After doing more intense research, I found out that A LOT of people were having the SAME problem. I called Casio and they wanted a ridiculous amout to just look at it, let alone FIX IT!
So the deal is, these cameras have one cord that controlls most of the functions such as the menu and zoom buttons. If that cord gets rattled a little, it no longer works. SO you will then be stuck with a 10.1 MP basically disposable camera (as they can not zoom or adjust settings either).
However, I must say that my next camera WILL be a Casio, but this particular model.... I'm not too sure.
Hope my review helps.
- For its price, this is a OK camera. What brings my rating up is the huge selection of shooting modes, the video editing, the audio, and several other features. First off: The shooting modes. This camera is a classic Casio in that it has many shooting modes (Best Shot). It has a setting for low light (candles), for fireworks, for flowers (close-up/macro), for pets, for portraits, for eBay, and many other things. The video editing is an innovative feature that allows you to cut the middle, beginning or end of ANY video more than about 5 seconds long. The audio clips are also a great thing to have (although I can't compare this to other cameras). Other good things are high-speed shutter mode that allows you to hold down the button to take several pictures per second; this lets you get the perfect picture of a basketball dunk or of your pet. The camera can also record a clip of sound to accompany a picture when you look at it. Additionally, you can zoom in 8x (without getting grainy) on any picture you have taken. It also, of course, has a timer so you can include everyone in the picture. The only thing I think this camera is missing is the ability to hold the shutter open to take pictures of cars' lights as they move. Lastly, I would think twice before purchasing this particular camera, as Casio recently came out with a camera that functions the same and has 10.1 MP, but is half as thick (and has a youtube shooting mode).
- I have owned the Casio Exilim EX-Z1050 for a long while now, and am not really satisfied. I'll list the pros and cons below:
Pros:
It looks nice. (The outward appearance is very stylish and smart looking)
It has a large screen.
It takes decent movies.
The rechargeable battery is pretty easy to recharge.
Cons:
The pictures are blurry. My husband and I have both messed with the settings constantly to try to make the pictures not blurry. With a tripod, this camera works fine, but almost anytime you are holding it they turn out blurry.
The manual doesn't tell you anything about this camera... NOTHING.
Auto shake on/off doesn't work (...again blurry pictures)
I can't even figure out (and believe me I have tried) to adjust aperture or shutter speed. The only thing it lets me change is ISO. Lame.
There is delay between when you press the button and the camera takes the picture. (Fine for nature photography, but really bad for people or pets)
All in all this camera is o.k. Like i said before, I have owned it for a long time and it is still working, so that is good. I take good care of it, and it seems to be alright. One of the reasons I bought it in the first place was because I saw that it had 10.1 mega pixels, but so you don't make the same mistake I made, it turns out that that just basically means it takes very, very large poster size pictures. (You can change the setting to take smaller ones, though) The quality isn't any better because of it. I thought 10.1 mega pixels = better pictures. Nope.(Unless you plan on blowing all your pictures up to an enormous size.)
Overall, I would not recommend this camera to family and friends.
- My boyfriend bought this camera for me for my birthday a few months ago because I love the color pink. I also have a Canon Powershot SD400 that works perfectly, but it has been marked and scratched from using it so much over the past 2 years. As a big pictures girl, I decided that having 2 cameras couldn't be bad! But, I am very disappointed with the Casio. It's supercute, but I find myself using my Canon MUCH more because the pictures turn out much better. Almost all of my pictures with the Casio are blurry - even if I hold the camera super-steady for set it on a flat surface and use the self-timer. I have played around with the settings, and High Sensitivity seems to produce the best shots, but not even comparable to the pictures I get with my Canon. As previous reviews have stated, the Casio manual is vague and pretty much useless... am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be helpful, because I know my boyfriend paid a pretty penny for this camera, and it's definitely not getting its worth just sitting on my desk...

2 comments about Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) + 2GB Pro Accessory Kit.
- This package is a good deal for the price. The XSi with lens kit is available in the market for around $899. For extra $30 I thought this was a cool bargain.
I did have some problems with the shipment though from this seller which were kinda resolved.
The XSi camera with the 18-55mm lens is cool. I took about 130 pictures and it has come out really great. I took pictures of flying birds, planes, landscapes, sunrise etc. I like the feel of the camera in my large hands. It feels really solid.
In this kit, I got an extra battery, camera bag and LCD screen protectors which I was most interested in. The tripod, filters etc are a bonus for me.
I am satisfied with this purchase and am happy with the XSi which is my first DSLR camera.
- I absolutely love this camera..... the screen is great and all the features are easy to get to without having to click around on a menu to much.

5 comments about Nikon Coolpix S51 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Matte Black).
- I bought this one because I had the same camera but sat on it. Great price for great quality, fast delivery as well.
- Great Camera. Very pleased with it. Only concern is the delay after taking a picture and trying to review it immediately. I would've liked to know the specific features of the camera before perchasing it, such as if there were specific settings for certain conditions (action, soft, indoor, outdoor/bright, etc.) Other than that, I am satisfied with this camera.
- My friends with 3.0 mp cameras get better pictures.
Really grainy
No vibrant colors
Pictures often come out unclear (shakes a lot)
Pros...
lots of features but a camera is for taking pictures and this takes crappy pictures.
Camera looks cool, big screen.
I'd say don't buy, you can find something better.
- First the plus side:
The camera is slim, lightweight, well constructed flash guide is good too, but not as good as the s50 for some reason, large LCD screen is top notch.
Now for the negatives:
Absolutely the SLOWEST point and shoot camera at night that I've used since the 90's!
During the day it is not so noticeable, but at night you press the button down, the orange glow lights up peoples smiling faces than nothing, sometimes it takes a painstaking 10 seconds to take one shot at night! while other times at it's best it takes 3-4 seconds... still too long for any modern point and shoot. I think that Nikon, a leader in camera innovation should be embarrassed to have their name on the front of this camera. Buy a Casio or Cannon instead they are both slim and take much faster photos!
- I got this camera about two months ago after I had gave up on my nikon d80.I needed a camera thats was more on my level but delievered good performance.I got the most amazing shots, and people can't believe it came from a digital camera.I'm no expert photographer,I feel as if people need to start off somewhere and having this camera will allow you to do so.

1 comments about Olympus Stylus 1010 10.1MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Zoom (Blue) + Spare Li-50B Battery + Card Reader + Compact Padded Camera Case.
- It is incredible how many features they can put into such a small camera. The pictures are clear. The macro and super marco features are easy to use and very clear though I would prefer to be able to access them by an external button. The only thing I do not like on the camera is without a viewfinder it is sometimes hard to compose and very difficult to impossible to see in bright sunlight. IF you want a pocket size camera to easily take anywhere without weighing you down this is it. You can set it and forget it or have a lot of control over the photo if you are more of a professional photo bug.

2 comments about LCD Timer Vertical Battery Grip for Canon Rebel XT (350D) & Rebel XTi (400D) with Remote Control.
- I am very pleased with this vertical grip and the capability it allows the 40D to accomplish without being connected to a computer.
Being able to take pictures with the IR remote is great, I wish they would have put another sensor in the rear of the grip so the remote can be used from the rear of the camera.
Love the ability to setup the camera to take pictures on a timer to capture time laps information. Just great to be able to bring these features out of the camera in the use of the vertical grip.
This has been a great addition to my 40D.
- I have not used all its features, but this is one nice grip!
Pros: Added battery life. Timer! Remote. Portrait buttons!
It does not show the remote in the picture, but its the size of a "fun size" or "snack size" snickers bar, just a hair thinner. Its a single button, but operates like the shutter button. Half push focuses, full push take shot. Its very bland, void of any markings.
I have used the remote a few times, once to scare my wife. She hates to hold the camera, she is afraid she will drop it. I accidently hit the button on the remote and it focused and took a shot. She almost dropped it! She thought she had broken it. I will not do this again, as she will probably throw it next time.
Cons: None really. Maybe better instructions?
I am mounting this to a 400D. When I was trying to get it attached, it would act like it was stuck. Turns out, and I really do not know why, you MUST not have the batteries in it when you attach it to the camera. I have not researched further as to why, as it will never be coming off, and it took 5 minutes for me to get it on there. I did not want to risk it not going back on another time.
It does add weight to the camera. If you have a decent lens on it, it will probably balance out the camera better. It did for mine.
Once attached its very solid. I tried to (carefully) tweak it seeing if it would move around on the camera. It wouldn't!
Be careful when you screw it down, as with all grips, you CAN break the screw off in the mount. This would not be good. Get it secure, and tighten it, but don't torque it down too much.

5 comments about Panasonic DMC-FX50S 7.2MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver).
- The Panasonic Lumix DMC FX50 is the latest upgrade to the quite successful FX07, with the addition of a big, beautiful 3 inch screen. The menu functions are well laid out and easy to use, and the camera feels comfortable to hold and fits easily in the pocket. The Image Stabilisation (OIS) works very well even at long focal lengths, and is great for quick "one handed" snaps when on the move.
Recording video works quite well, however zooming is NOT available as mentioned previously and sound quality is quite poor, to the point of being unable to pick up audible conversation from anyone but yourself. And now..on the subject of poor.
Where this camera fails miserably is picture quality. Panasonic I believe have made a big mistake with this lens, as at its widest angle (and default start-up focal length), barrel distortion is quite noticeable with horrible blurring at the edges. This is most disappointing, considering it is quite sharp towards the centre of the image. Initially I thought I'd been sold a lemon, but after browsing hundreds of photos from other FX50 owners on Flickr I, it is just as noticeable, especially when the images are viewed at larger size.
Indoor photography is equally horrible as the FX50 struggles to auto-focus in even the most gracious indoor lighting conditions. Flash performance is not too bad considering the small size of the flash window, but flash-less photography using high ISO is also very poor, even when using a tripod.
In summary, I am very disappointed with this camera and would not recommend it to anyone wishing to take good quality pictures at sizes larger than 1024 X 765, and especially significant indoor shots.
Such a pity though, that big beautiful bright screen is a wonder to look at.
- This is a very well-designed camera that takes great pictures. It is packed with features that are easy to access thanks to an intuitive menu. The lens allows a wider angle than many others (equivalent to a 28mm. on an SLR), and is indispensible for both indoor and landscape shots. Picture quality is excellent. Battery life is excellent. Best of all, the 3-inch display is just stunning. The large display makes it easy to frame up shots, and be prepared to hear gasps from people when you play back your images. I love the small, portable charger, and also really like the connector that allows you to hook up your camera to any TV and start an instant slide show.
As for dislikes, the software for transferring images to a PC is not very well designed, although it is functional. I prefer to use the software that came with an old Olympus camera that I have. Also, the flash for the camera is a bit too powerful for close shots, and I have not found a menu setting that allows it to be adjusted. These are minor points however, and I am confident in recommending this as a great camera at a great price.
- I bought this camera to replace an archaic Toshiba, and have a good digital camera for a honeymoon in Costa Rica. I also bought two half gig high speed SD cards (already had a 1 gig MMC), an extra battery and the case from Panasonic.
The battery amazed me the most, coming from the Toshiba which would eat four double A's in 10 pictures with the flash. The battery would last nearly as long as the SD card (200+ photos at 5M), without the flash, and could easily do more than half of the card with the flash. It was nice though to have a small charger and the spare battery.
The high speed SD is a huge benefit. The writing was nearly instant, as opposed to the MMC card, which had a noticeable write time following a photo.
The pictures ranged from very crisp and clean to not so great. A lot of it was me figuring out the best settings. The pre-fixed scenery feature for specific conditions was nice too, took some of the guess work out of the manual settings for me. The camera did very well from a foot to about 20 feet. Beyond that, I ran into trouble taking detail shots at a distance. And I didn't care at all for the digital zoom. Those shots almost always were blurry. The 16:9 setting did a great job doing the scenery shots.
Overall, I am very pleased with the ease of use and quality of the camera. I am sure you can find cameras that take better pictures, but not in such a nice, small and easy to use package.
- I ordered this camera after reading a review in Popular Photography about shirt pocket cameras. This is one of he best purchases I've made. The camera delivered everything promised and is simple enough my wife, who is a Luddite in her best moments, enjoys taking shots with it. I use it for taking a lot of pictures of mechanical equipment (macro and regular shots) in the field in some difficult lighting scenarios. The camera has performed wonderfully in every situation and the large CD makes framing shots second nature. The nicest non-SLR camera I've ever owned.
- I bought this camera as my first digital camera. I researched all of the usual suspects and then found this camera in a store. It instantly became my choice. Although I find this camera to be an excellent piece of equipment, it isn't perfect, but more on that in a moment.
First, the camera is very easy to use and comfortable to hold. Many compacts, especially those with large LCDs like this one, cram your fingers into confined spaces making them uncomfortable for prolonged use. The LUMIX, while not the thinnest compact on the market, is a nice size that is portable, but comfortable in use. The screen is easy to read, even outdoors, and features both a power mode to boost brightness when outdoors and a high angle mode for when you're shooting over your head.
The lens on this camera is NICE with a useful 28mm wide angle to a respectable telephoto end for a compact and the lens has excellent distortion control. I love the zoom on this camera as it is very precise. Most compacts lurch when zoomed in or out, but the LUMIX zooms smoothly with a multitude of stops allowing fine adjustment. The best part is the Mega O.I.S. which works perfectly. Never again will I by a camera without it.
Overall, the features and function of this camera is great. Solid build quality and quick performance. The photos taken are beautiful. Good color without over saturating and decent noise control at lower ISOs. But, the camera does have its drawbacks. Noise can become an issue at higher sensitivities and can even creep in at lower setting during long exposures. While I don't find it terrible, it is noticeable at times especially when shooting in dark conditions. The functionality of the camera is also limited when trying to force a long exposure, but to be fair this is not a SLR, but a little more timer settings could be useful for night photography.
Again, overall I have enjoyed this camera and taken some wonderful pictures. If I had to do it over again I would likely buy this camera again. I would appreciate a little better noise performance, but the LUMIX is not really that bad once you learn how to work around it. I would recommend this camera, in fact I have, and I don't think anyone who buys one will be disappointed.
