  1. The Camera has fullfilled mostly all the expectations. Only the anti blur system(super steady shot)was quite disapointing because most moving objects apears as blury as at my other, and oldest, Olympus digital camera. I really expected more from it.

  2. Incredible camera. Image quality is perfect, video recording is easy and reliable. The menu is finally very user friendly. AA product.

  3. Of the previous T30. Pretty slick. That is why there are barely any control buttons on the back. I still went for the T30, Im not fond of pressing on the screen, as well as fear of something else breaking. Otherwise just the same T30 camera. I can confirm the white spots (see Sony KB article C388461), at times almost looks like water drops as others have mentioned. It only happens indoor flash shooting with low light at a distance. I picked this slim line version because of the slick 3" screen and all black back finish. Retrospect I would have gotten the W55.

Additional note objects further than 10 feet away will be out of focus, especially in low light. Dont waste your time/money. I really tried to ignor these flaws, but in the end could not and returned. Definitly go with W55. You will get even better performance with W80 (however the menu system is more complex and you dont get batt time remaining???!!!)

  4. Although this is a sleek camera full of 'extras', I couldn't get past the white spots that appeared when using the flash. For me, it was happening on well over 50% of all photos taken with the flash, which is a deal-breaker. The white spots are so bad on most of the pictures that I am not even able to clean them up using Photoshop. I'm really disappointed, because I loved many features the camera came with.

  5. Use macro (magnifying glass) and video most of the time and it is awesome. Bought a microSD to memory stick pro duo adaptor and 1GB microSD instead of purchasing a memory stick pro duo. MicroSD can be used in almost all product nowadays just by changing adaptor. There is microSD to miniSD, microSD to SD, microSD to USB thumb drive.

  1. DO NOT BUY!!! I bought this at Wal-mart for the (seemingly) low price of $39.99. A camera that you can't function isn't a deal at any price. It wouldn't do the appropriate action even when I followed the manual verbatim. When I tried the website that's recommended in the manual, I was sent instead to a home page that didn't have any support for the model number ( 57490 ). They had lots of other models, but not this one. Apparently people have had trouble downloading pictures more than once, but I didn't even get that far. Luckily I was able to return it, but online purchases aren't as easy to remedy.

  2. DO NOT BUY!!! Against my recommendation, my six-year old daughter bought this camera from Wal-Mart with her allowance. The LCD screen is so horrible that you can barely tell what you just took a picture of. There is no optical or digital zoom, so you have to move to get the picture, and I swear there is no focus or image stabilization on this camera, because when we downloaded them to the computer, all 50 or so pictures she took were blurry. This is worse than my cell phone camera--probably the worst camera you can buy.

  1. i luvvv this camera (i just got it today and its allllll that iv been doing!)its great the only things i dont like is how long it takes after u press the button till the time the picture actually takes!!, theres no sports mode on it (for xample at basketball today my dad couldnt take pictures because they all turned out blurry, and last is the movie feature doesnt hav sound sooo tecnically its not a movie!!! but overall i luv the camera!!!!!!!

  2. I've had this camera for 2 years now and it's still great. I am tempted to buy all the newer cooler cameras out there, but I don't need to because this camera does everything I want it to do. It took some experimenting to get the right settings. First, it's important to change the brightness settings on the camera if your pictures are coming out too dark. I just figured this out recently and every picture I have taken since then has been excellent! The best mode to use in the Auto Mode. There are several quality settings and I usually use the HQ setting. There is also SHQ, but there's not much difference between SHQ and HQ besides the amount of pictures you can store. I have not noticed a significant amount of time between when you press the shutter and when the picture takes. That has never been a problem for me, I always get the pictures I want. My prints always come out great too, I go to Walgreens for prints. Also, buying rechargeable batteries has saved me a TON of money!
If you just need a simple camera to take pictures around the house or on vacation, this is a great choice. I believe they have more updated models of this camera with more megapixels now.
Just remember to change the brightness settings!

  3. This camera is still getting good use after a couple of years of abuse and trips! The camera is strong and runs nice. It's not complicated and the shots come out great.

It's too old to recommend now but I still give it 5 stars because it is still going after all this time. Olympus makes good stuff!

  4. This was my 5th Olympus camera, my third digital. It was a small, simple-to-use camera for my wife. The flash images were poorly exposed from the beginning. We eventually replaced it with a similar Kodak which takes much better photos, and we gave this one away. I love the quality of my other, older Olympus, but this one struck out.

  5. This product takes great quality pictures but the camara internal software is spotty.
Some times it will work with a USB, most times it will not. Very frustrating. After 6 months the USB features was not working & it started creating errors on all computers I tried it with. Their Technical support was nice but could not flash the camara or give me a software download, that was very disappointing.
A driver disk should of come with the unit.
They do not even have one. I will not purchase another product from Olympus due to the low tech answers & not being able to fix the problem.

  1. Do a google search on ROYAL CAMERA COMPLAINTS and you will see that they are a scammy outfit! I ONLY buy from AMAZON and who AMAZON recommends (like Adorama! B&H! etc!) oh and this camera is a FABULOUS camera to use - a bit of a learning curve but wonderful results!

  2. I have own the D1X for 6months now. The one issue some have is the older tech. batteries. Personally I didn't bother with the Nikon batteries but have bought the batteries from BatteryBarn. Great price, service and warranties.
Image quality is fantastic with the colors and rendering as close to film like (Velvia) as anything I've seen.

    I use Nikkor 17-35f/2.8, 28-70f/2.8, 70-200f/2.8, 85f/1.4, 50f1.4 and they all do fine.

I regularly make A3 (13X19) prints which are beautiful and wouldn't hesitate going much larger.

One thing. Viewing an image on the LCD will make you feel like the shot is garbage but trust your abilities and the D1x as when opened up they are simply stunning.

Focus is fast and accurate with any lens, AF-S or screw. The meter is very accurate.

These may be of an older generation but those of us that use them love them.

  1. i just noticed the price drop to $80!

This camera is absolutely amazing, i would pay $120 for it again ANYTIME!

Awesome picture quality, much better than other 3MP cameras!

  2. The zoom feature on it sucks, but it still takes great pictures and it was 50 bucks. CA-CHING!!! YEAH!!

  3. Be advised that, assuming I was shipped the right camera, the picture on this page is slightly wrong. My camera doesn't have a manual viewfinder or lights along the top. Moving on, this camera is perfect for stashing in a purse in case something memorable comes along. It's smaller than a pack of cards, rechargeable, has all the basics (flash, zoom) and, to my delight, has a feature that prevents taking pictures of my pocket. Sure, there isn't a flash button, but switching takes literally 4 seconds and then you can choose auto flash. I took off one star simply because it only charges through a USB port, which can be a problem when travelling. I definitely recommend this camera to someone who wants a reliable camera but admits they're not a photographer.

  4. We found this camera when looking to get something small and inexpensive for my little girl for Christmas. What sold us on this camera was that it was very tiny, looked like a "real" camera compared to the Fisher Price one being sold for her age, and finally, the price-- $50 at Wal-Mart. The only good thing I can say about this camera is that it is truly easy to use. My daughter can look through the display on the back and point and shoot a picture of any object she wants with ease. But that's the ONLY good thing I have to say about this camera.

Now for the long list of negatives. First, the camera shoots photos in RAW photo format, which then requires use of conversion software that's PRE-INSTALLED ON and RAN FROM THE CAMERA to convert them over to JPEG files in order for the computer to display them. This was an idiotic scheme from the start as JPEG is the universal format. Second, the battery life is non-existent. I'd say after 15 to 20 pictures, the camera needs to be charged again, which brings me to my third complaint. There is no power adapter to charge the camera's battery, so you MUST CONNECT THE CAMERA to a computer to charge it. Taking this camera away from the house and attempting to use it for any length of time is impossible. Fourth, we have an old PC but primarily use our iMac-- especially for storing our pictures due to the fantastic iPhoto software. This camera will connect and show up as a storage device on the Mac, but it doesn't connect and work with iPhoto (unless you've already converted the photos to JPEG by first connecting it to a PC and using the conversion software), nor does the conversion application on the camera work with the Mac platform. I can copy the RAW files from the camera to the computer via drag-n-drop; however, I haven't figured out a simple way of transfering the photos to jpeg format. Fifth, the digital zoom is impossible to use, especially for my daughter, unless you've prepared to use the zoom several minutes in advance of the shot since it must be accessed through the camera's clumsy menu-- my sixth comlaint! Seventh, if you shake the camera, even just a tiny bit, you will ruin the shot. Eighth, the tiny but powerful flash will white-blast the subject in your photo if you aren't the perfect distance away; or it won't even cast a shadow on the subject if you're too far away. I'd say use this primarily for outdoor photos, but remember you can't be away from a USB hook-up for too long or the thing dies.

Why couldn't Philips have just created a product that works. Most of my gripes would be non-existent if not for the damn RAW photo format. When I bought this camera, I had no delusions of my little girl taking award-winning photos with the thing, but she could have learned to take some decent shots if she were able to easily connect and transfer her photos to the computer we use for reviewing pictures. As it stands, she can take photos for as long as the battery will hold, then she must get me to transfer and spend time messing with the photos so that she can see how well she's done. She's happier using my cameraphone for taking pictures, which is what made me consider buying this camera in the first place. Philips-- this camera is way too inconvenient and not a good buy, even at $50.

  5. To counter some of the items in C.P. Dillon Jr's review in particular; I am not sure if the review was of the actual model listed here.

I also posted this as a comment on one of that review:
Is this review for the camera pictured? I have the camera pictured, and (first issue) it DOES save immediately in JPEG-compression not RAW. I am just concerned that you are giving someone a bad impression of the wrong camera. This is a "toss in the purse" for me; my "normal" camera is a high-end Olympus camera (just before moving into their professional line).

I can't really say much about battery life (issue two) because there are so many factors that go into how fast you drain the battery such constantly zooming in & out, how much you "play" with things, etc. Although I wouldn't say it's a long battery life, I haven't run into issues.

Shakiness is an issue with any camera; it has little to do with the camera and more to do with the operator; another reason I always recommend using the viewfinder and not the screen. Using the viewfinder is a more stable approach. If your camera does not have a viewfinder, it is NOT the one listed here.

(third negative listed) Also, there are many chargers available that will fit this camera's charging slot as many other portable devices (such as cell phones) use the same size slot. I use my motorola phone charger on this camera without issue; I also use my car charger on the camera when I am on the road.

I can't comment on the IMac or older PC issue because I have neither.

**Another indication to me that this is NOT a review for the camera listed here: the zoom on the camera listed here is an up arrow and down arrow to the right of the LCD screen that does NOT require you to go into a menu.

There is another review here that mentions going into a menu for the zoom so I have to think that both this review and that one reference a different model and potential buyers should keep that in mind.

  1. Purchased this camera in Jan 2007, and last week received the infamous and well documented message, "lens error, restart camera".

  2. The Canon G7 is one of the best Point and Shoot cameras I have ever used, and besides looking great (very retro), it's images are outstanding! I bought mine from some local electronics store because I am impatient and needed it right away for a business photography need, but could have saved some money by buying it from Amazon or elsewhere online.

It's settings are astounding and I am just getting to the point of where I can use more versatility than just the standard program or auto functions. I especially love shutter priority where it's 3 very sensitive CCDs "push" the images colors over the top! When indoors and shooting stills, it's so good on these images that I don't need a flash many times (although it may require a few pratice shots to keep the body still when exposing for extended frames). If you're new to the idea of video available on a point and shoot, this camera will also impress the user by being easy to use and easy to review your newly captured video footage. It has 2 options: very-good and high-quality for the video footage (not the real setting names).

It's a durable camera as well, but (being too embarassed) I won't describe how I found that out! :O I will tell you that I am completely impressed and delighted that I spent the money I spent, after having tried SOOO many cameras that fall short in one area or another.

If you're looking for a great camera, the G7 or the G9 will not disappoint. Unless you're exploding images up to poster size routinely, this camera could be your best daily photography tool. This camera seems to do it all for me @ my level (I am a former SLR owner, who doesn't like taking the full kit with me just for snapshots). My only regret was not waiting on the G9 because the screen size appears to be a little bigger, and it has a better set of sensors (it's 12MP). Overall, I am very happy with it even if I never get to upgrade to the G9.

  3. Best camera I have ever owned. It has so many features that it takes a lot of time to learn them, however, it also works great as a "point and shoot". Well worth the money. Best features are multiple face recognition and image stabilization.

  4. Beware of Canon customer support. I bought a G7 a year ago and after six month something that look like dust particle managed to get into the lens (all pictures and videos have a black dot). First I thought that I could clean than but then I realized the lenses are sealed. Then I wondered, if the lenses are sealed the only way a particle of dust could have gotten there was when it was manufactured. Well, I call Canon and guess what; they offered me to send the camera for repair (at my expense) or a refurbished one for $250 dollars. If I knew how I would sue this company for utter irresponsibility. Now all my pictures and videos have a black dot thanks to Canon's lack of support. So long for a honey moon with Canon...

    Fernando

  5. Short and simple.
I got this camera as a gift, from my uncle who is a pro. Best camera out there! For point and shoot, for family, and other purposes this camera is all you will ever need! Unless you are a pro? This is it!
