  1. I bought this camera for my daughter as a birthday present. I am going to steal it back. What a terrific camera!!! I have to have one

  2. This is a wonderful camera. Great price, well worth the price. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

  3. My camera arrived in Great shape. This camera is so fool proof! Having a great time using it and showing it off. Looking to purchase a larger zoom lens now. It's very user friendly. Thanks Amazon for guiding me to this EOS XT!

  4. This camera is an amateur photographer's dream. It's compatible with all current generation lenses (unlike the higher-dollar Canons). The kit lens is quite good quality but you may not be happy with its performance indoors. Make sure you also look into getting one of the inexpensive prime lenes (prime = non-zoom). The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is an excellent value.

  5. Love this camera! It takes wonderful pictures, easy to use, & great price. You can't go wrong with this one.

5 comments about Canon PowerShot G9 12.1MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.
  1. I decided to invest in another digital camera a few months ago and started to research cameras. I'm not a camera buff and didn't really want to be but I do want to learn enough to take good pictures. The G9 had consistantly good reviews. I checked it out at a camera store to make sure it felt right. Amazon had the best price. There are some cheaper ones but look out for what they don't put in the box (like batteries and charger) One of the things that put this camera over the top for me was the fact that it offered the ability to take RAW pics.

The camera is easy to use. I am still learning all of its features, of which it has many, many. It will take me awhile. I am very happy with it and look forward to taking even more pictures. It's been a great camera for me and I'm very happy with my purchase.

  2. I was looking for a compact travel camera with full manual controls and capable of excellent image quality (at least in good light). There are a lot of great P&S's out there but not a lot of compacts with manual controls.

I had been a fan of Canon Powershot models for a while although I've mostly used several Olymous DSLR's and Panasonic Lumix P&S's for the last several years. The G9 seemed to get generally good reviews and had one of the larger sensors in its class, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Its exposure accuracy is better than any other compact (and even some DSLR's) I've used. The LCD viewfinder provides a very accurate representation of the image you will capture (color balance, exposure, DOF etc). The full manual controls allow for a lot of creativity and good shorts in difficult lighting. The image quality at ISO 200 and below is excellent. You can get good shots at 400 and usable shots up to ISO 800 for small prints, but 1600 and 3200 are for emergency use only.

It starts up fast, focuses accurately and quickly, is a reasonable size and weight, and can produce excellent image quality.

The camera seems very well built and I only have the following nits
    1) The camera shake warning seems to always be on at low shutter speeds (regardless of zoom, IS being on or off, or the camera being on a tripod). So it seems its not linked to actual shake or shake the IS could compensate for. Its just a little annoying.
    2) I'd much prefer a viewfinder with indicators (iso, shutter speed etc) even if it ended up being an Electronic Viewfinder rather than Optical. I considered a similar Nikon with EVF for that very reason.
    3) Why no RAW in Auto or Scene modes?

So if you are looking for a compact travel camera with good performance and great image quality, but want manual control for tough lighting conditions or creative reasons, this is well worth looking at.

  3. I can't add to all the reviews that are out there on the G9. It's a great point and shoot camera with many of the features of a SLR. It feels good, it looks good, and it works good. If your looking for a high-end point a shoot, do the research and there's a real good chance you will end up with a G9

  4. I put off buying the Canon G9 because it lacked both the fast lens and the swivel LCD screen of my Canon G1. But photos on the web persuaded me to buy the camera. Now I love it. For a point-and-shoot, it turns on quickly and is soon ready for an additional shot. The Manual mode controls are easy to use. I am pleased with the photos that I have taken with it.

It works well with the Speedlite 430EX. I use the neck strap with the PSC-5000 case.

I like the feel of it; it makes me want to use it.

  5. This is my third Canon PowerShot camera in the past years. Whereas this G9 is clearly more developed and with decent ergonomics/features/picture quality, it still suffers with very serious shutter delays. This is a key operational function and Canon G9 is terribly faulty.

It is very frustrating to try to catch a picture moment, only to have the camera shutter NOT function when pressing the button. Sometimes, it will take over 3 seconds for the picture to be finally taken. This is totally unacceptable and frustrating. I have missed untold number of pictures due to this delay problem. Don't believe the specs about shutter lag, the fact is that the camera is deficient. I long for my older film cameras that were able to fire instantly. Perhaps Canon will finally hear users complaints about this and hopefully fix this major flaw that otherwise ruins a nice portable camera.

  1. This is my first digital camera, and I am just learning how to use it. The controls are logical and not too tiny. It hooked up beautifully to my imac Leopard 10 so I didn't need to use the Canon software. Because of the Amazon reviews, I have not purchased a camera case yet; I want one with a neck strap. Pat Murray

  2. This is an excellent camera for the money! It is small enough to carry in a pocket but still large enough to feel good and have a viewfinder so that you can turn the viewing screen off to save the battery. We have taken several hundred photographs so far and are still on the first set of batteries. The photos are excellent quality and the camera is easy to use but sophisticated enough to allow a wide variety of individual priority's such as aperture or timing. It also has the image stabilizer so that unfamiliar people can take photos without blurring them. I would buy it again without hesitation.

  3. After considering the Olympus Stylus 830 and a Sony, I went with the Canon A590IS for two reasons: 1)it has a viewfinder and 2)it takes AA batteries. The viewfinder is particularly useful to me as I bought the camera specifically to take photos of cactus blossoms in full sun. I am still new to this camera but without having studied too much, I've gotten some excellent photos. This 8 MP camera produces images comparable to my friend's 8 MP SLR, a much bulkier body. Even with four sets of extra batteries, the booklet and a charger, my camera bag is smaller and has some room to spare.

  4. So I was looking for something with slightly more features then a cheap point and shoot camera. I used to have an older Canon and thought I would give them a try again, and I have to say I am rather pleased with my purchase. The camera turns on and is ready to take picutres quickly. The Auto mode is great for most daylight or well lit settings. The 'Night-Scene' Mode works great if you are taking picutres during the night or in a dim room. Colors are vibrant and crisp, and the image stabilization works rather well when using the zoom. I really like all the available customization options for Exposure and and White Balance, that helps if you know a bit about what you are doing and want to take some specialized shots, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I only have one thing that I don't like so far about the camera. I would have liked something more then just a 4x Optical Zoom. A 6x or 8x would have been a lot nicer, although you can purchase additional lenses for this, which is a great option. However, this seems to be more of an issue with all point and shoot type digital cameras, not something specific to this camera.

Overall a great value for what you get.

  5. This is by far the best camera that I have ever owned. As someone who mostly takes pictures of dogs and other things of the sort it is perfect for me. It is easy to use and the quality is great. I love this camera and would recommend it to anyone.

  1. I've had it for a few months now and it works just great. The picture quality is excellent, easy to use, a lot more functions than regular digital cameras (non pro) and you can have the lens changed if you need a more powerful one.
Definitely the best camera you can get for the price.

  2. I have used the camera a few times. Image is good, easy to use for the easy pictures I usuallly take. I purchased a 2GB SD card and even with that extra expense it was a great deal.

  3. Amazon came up with a great price for the A570IS. I was out to our local humane society and they had a list that they needed disposable cameras. I decided to get them a digital camera and in the long run save them the expense of developing the pictures so they could put them in the local paper and on Petfinders.com.

I own another Canon camera A630 which proved to me that Canon's are great cameras. That model costs about $100 more. I wanted to get a camera for my 13 year old nephew too and decided to get him a Canon and I decided to try the A570IS for both of them and thought I would try a less expensive model to see how that would work. I had wanted to donate part of my economic stimulus check and this was a good choice for me.

When I received the cameras, I tried one out one night at about 9 p.m., and turned out all the lights. It was completely dark in my living room and I snapped a picture aiming for the sofa and the picture hanging above it. To my amazement it acted just like the A630 and the snapshot looked as if I had every light on in the room. I knew then that the humane society could use this camera because they would get into situations of dark barns and puppy mill places and they would need a camera that would perform for them.

I leave my setting on Automatic. The humane society will maybe want to use the setting Kids and Pets. It is a great point and shoot camera and I know my 13 year old nephew will find it easy to use. And as he gets older he might light to try the different manual settings.

If you are tired of cameras not taking pictures in low level light situations, this camera will not disappoint you.

  4. I love this camera. For a novice it works really well and has more settings than I'll use or know to use. Very satisified.

  5. This little camera delivered on everything promised. For the price and the features I am very satisfied. I researched and purchased the a570 after our 5 yr old a70 took a tumble down the stairs.... I now wish the a70 had tumbled sooner.

  1. The Pros:
I've owned this for about 6 weeks now and really just love it. I also own a Nikon D200 and several lenses for the brunt of my photography needs but I really needed/wanted a small pocket camera that would take nice photos and good video. This is an excellent compliment to a DSLR.

If this were my only camera, I would probably be missing the longer zooms, the wide angle that it covers is quite nice.

My favorite feature though has to be the video and the on board controls for reviewing the videos. It is just perfect for this, I coach High School athletes in the Pole Vault and this little camera is my best assistant. I have taken hundreds of videos so far and it just performs perfectly.

Battery life has been exceptional in my opinion.

    The Cons:
As noted by other reviewers the on/off button is easy to hit by accident. So far I have not jammed the lens but I can see how easy it is to do. I have inadvertently turned the camera on in my pocket a number of times.

    Bottom Line:
Highly Recommended Camera. You will love it.

  2. IT IS THE BEST CAMERA AVAILABLE ON ITS SIZE AND PRICE. I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE PICTURES AND THE CAMERA ITSELF.

  3. This is a great product. I upgraded from my trustworthy SD410 for IS, 3" LCD and wide angle lens. It's definitely faster (DIGIC III) than my old camera with better focusing and face detection.

  4. Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera is amazingly user-friendly. I love the large LSD viewer and the small size and weight of the camera. A lot of "bang" for the bucks.

  5. Bought this camera from Costco first, the lens got stuck in the out position. Returned it and bought another one from Amazon.

No problems so far. Takes great pictures, the 3" screen is nice. Image Stabilization works good enough to take good pictures from a moving boat. Not an easy thing to do.

Price has come down since it was introduced making it a better deal.

  1. As stated the battery cover is the same as the memory card cover, this is an eh...... but the camera is exactly what I wanted and more. Great picts. perfect camera to pick up and take any snap shot or portrait.

  2. I had been watching this product for 7 months before I finally got it. Love it. All the reviews are correct - this is one excellent camera.
And the zoom in video mode makes movies that are clean & stable. When you want true clarity, ALWAYS invest in optical zoom.
If you can handle it's puggy little package, you will not be disappointed with this product.

  3. I just got this camera yesterday. So far, I think it is great with some amazing features. The zoom feature is outstanding. I can't believe how far I can zoom. Most of the pictures I have taken are crisp and clear. When I messed around with some of the settings though, some were a bit blurry but I'm sure that is just me trying to figure out all the features and settings of the camera. When we were shopping around for a camera, one of the biggest things we were looking for was shutter speed. We wanted a camera that can take several pictures fast withing a second or two. This camera is pretty good with that, but again, when I messed around with the settings, I must have made it slow down. Of course, this can be fixed by going back to the default settings which is very easy. My main problems which are very small is that the direcions are very confusing. I'm basically learning how to operate the camera and the features by messing around with it myself. I tried to read the instructions, but it is very confusing since there are so many features. Another small problem I'm having is that we can't figure out how to attatch the lens cover and its strap to the actual camera. The lens cap also seems to come off very easily so if you buy this camera, be sure you have it on the right way and don't let small kids get near it. I also don't know how long regular batteries will last, but the camera itself came with 4 AA batteries that died out very quickly so they may have been cheap batteries, or maybe the camera takes up a lot of battery power, but then again, I have not put it down all day yesterday and today. It does not come with a rechargable battery or cord to recharge batteries so it would be smart to keep extra batteries around if necessary. Some of the best things about this camera is that it came with its own memory card which I thought was great. It can only hold a few pictures, but it was an accessory that I did not expect it to come with. You can also purchase a seperate accessory flash to attatch to the top of the camera in the event you may need extra lighting. The camera also lets you shoot movies in which you can zoom. There is also stereo sound which is pretty clear. One of the best features is the ability to take a pic in black and white and have certain things in the background in color. I thought this was great as was the fact that you could adjust and change colors in still shots. I could not possibly explain all the features, but the camera is worth the money and I highly recommend it to anyone.

  4. I own several Canon cameras not because I am loyal, but because they have been good products. I had read about problems with battery life and the battery cover being plastic and also covering the memory card on the S5. I have found that the battery life is fine (NiMH), and after installing a 8GB memory card, I am not sure why I would need to change it. It holds about a year's worth of pictures (2000+) and if you shoot movies, you can film for an hour. This makes a plastic cover a non-issue if it was one to start. I manage the memory card through the USB slot.

Camera operation is easy (after you master all the features), and the picture quality if good even when using the digital zoom. The dedicated movie button is very convenient.

This is my snapshot camera so I am not concerned with minor technical variations. None have stood out to me. Focusing and IS work well, and I love being able to zoom when making movies. Some cameras don't.

Now for a few things to consider. You can't imprint the time/date on the picture. They don't claim you can, but it would be nice. Nikons do.

My camera gives no reasonable warning about the battery charge. It displays a warning message, and then quits. Have charged batteries at the ready.

Be careful with low light pictures at high zooms (S5 is 12X). This is a problem with all zoom cameras including the S5. The good news is that the flash works very well. If you want to use an external flash (don't buy one until you have tried the built-in), make sure it is one of the ones compatible with the S5. Others work, but aren't as tightly integrated.

Rather than having a lens cover that pops off easily (lens extension), I would rather they have disabled turning power on if the lens cover were attached.

This camera is complicated which also means powerful. It is for the advanced amateur, but can be used as point-and-shoot which wastes many of its capabilities. I am personally quite happy with the unit.

  5. I upgraded from an Powershot AS70 to this camera so the jump was quite a big one. What a wonderful camera. The shutter lag is immensely shorter. I've only had the camera for 2 weeks so don't have a lot to say except that I recommend it completely.

5 comments about Canon PowerShot SD750 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver).
  1. First of all, I had this camera for a year and two (2) months, and I must say, during the time I had this camera in my hand, it was the BEST and yes I really mean that. Besides the canon we also had a sony (Cyber-shot DSC-T70/B)and as Sad as I am to say within 2weeks of gettin the sony it was sold and everyone in my household uses my canon. Beautiful shots have been taken with this camera and it has never failed, from my moving dog to jumping nephew and new years fireworks. If anyone complains bout this camera, then something is wrong with them(they proably dont know how to operate it). Im glad that I was told to buy this camera from the sales guy, so after a year and 2 months of taking wonderful pictures, I have decided to give him to my family members and move on to the sibling (790).
But If anyone wants to buy this camera, I'll tell them go for it, wonderful pictures for a point and shoot.

  2. After much research to find a high quality, reasonably priced compact digital camera to replace my bulkier Nikon 8700, I chose the SD750. The size and feel of the camera were great as were the menus and options. However, the performance left much to be desired as the pics taken during the 3 weeks I had the camera were poor. With picture quality being the most important factor when selecting a camera, I was disappointed to see the SD750 repeatedly blurring faces of people who were not the main subject of a photo as though the camera was unable to capture different depths in the same photo. I tried multiple settings without success and consulted my local Wolf Camera for options to improve performance, but had no success. I'm sticking with my Nikon 8700 which, despite its size, still takes great pics and has served me well for 3+ years.

I'll give Amazon credit for an efficient and easy refund process.

  3. I bought this camera to carry in a shirt pocket and take nice pictures. It does exactly that, very nicely. I take close up pictures of flowers, outdoor vistas, and pictures of friends. I learned about the camera at [...], there is an excellent review there. I bought a spare Canon battery, but haven't had much need for it, unless you take a lot of flash pictures you may be fine with a single battery.

  4. I bought this camera so I could take pictures when I'm flying. I needed something that was small enough to put in a pocket, but could still take a decent picture to send to my family. I gave the camera four stars because there are a few cameras around that have a higher optical zoom. For me the digital zoom isn't much good. All in all, this camera is an exceptional value and performs extremely well. If you are looking for an ultra-compact point and shoot, you should definitely consider this one.

  5. nice big LCD screen! pictures comes out great on this camera! camera is compact, thin and beautiful. i have it for over 2 years and i love it. easy to carry and easy to view pictures on it. price have drop quite a bit since i bought it. u will not be disappointed, good value and quality. very reliable too!

  1. I really like this camera, it takes really great pictures yet my older version, the SD 550 takes pictures better than this one! Overall, great though!

  2. Great camera.. I've owned cameras Sony, Nikon and Kodak, but Canon is definitely the best brand, highly recmmended.

  3. If I wanna buy SD850IS from Amazon, Does it include the battery and charger? and Could the Kingston 2GB Secure Digital Memory Card be used for SD850IS? thanks.

  4. Canon PowerShot SD850 IS 8.0 MP Digital Elph Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom
For a really tiny camera, this has remarkable capability. Have only had it for a month or so, but results are excellent so far. It has many functions with which I need to become familiar, but if you just put it on "auto" you can fire away without knowing all there is to know. The flash, although limited, is stronger than I expected. The screen is quite bright and the brightness can be bumped up if needed when in bright daylight.

However, one reason I got the 850 instead of one of the next models to come out is because it has a viewfinder. It is a pleasure to be relieved of all the many pounds of Nikon cameras, lenses, and film that I used to carry on trips. I find that this and my other pocketable digital camera (Kodak 7630)are quite capable to get the results I want. The greatest limitation is the lack of very wide angle. Telephoto is pretty good with equivalant to 140mm, and with 8mp you can crop severely to get equivalent of much longer telephoto. So far, I've been very pleased with the camera.

  5. This is the best camera I've ever had. I've been a professional photographer for about 30 years, and favored Canon EOS cameras since the days of film, and currently have a Canon digital G3, EOS 30D, and now this - and they don't disappoint me.

I say it's the best for more reasons than I can list, but mainly because it's reliable and versatile - shooting from very close up to longer than most elphs. And reliable in finding the right focus and exposure.

Although the image can be noisy at high ISOs, I find the noise pattern beautiful, and welcome it for my fine art work.

    The panorama works well.

Especially convenient is that you can freeze the viewing of the just-shot picture, and then inspect it closely or delete it - without changing to review mode (ie, while still in shooting mode) - which makes experimenting very easy and fast.

It (usually) efficiently and quickly finds the right focus, has a wonderful white balance feature by programming it onto the print button, and is as intelligently designed as I've found all Canon cameras.

I highly recommend this for amateurs or professionals.

  1. I bought it for my wife as a gift. I have a SD200 and have used it for several years. My wife loves her new SD1000. It is very easy to use and takes very nice snap shots.

  2. I've just received my elph canon sd1000 and so far no complains, in fact, Im really happy with it. It captures every little detail in the exact light of the moment, I was surprised. I absolutely love the colors, I took a picture of my cocker spaniel while sunset and WOW soooo beautiful!!! This is my first camera that has its own battery and battery charger and what a relief! It was a pain to use alkaline batteries, not convenient at all. The price and quality of this camera makes it a must-have!!!!!! Trust the reviews.

  3. Overall it is nice camera, and it is good value for the money.
    though I found 2 faults:
    1. from the instance I shoot until the picture is set it takes some time. especially when the light conditions are poor.
    2. the date only appears at poor quality pictures. on high quality u can't add the date :-<

  4. This camera replaced a very similar Nikon camera which I found very lacking in controls and useability. This Canon is quite frankly the best snapshot camera I have ever owned. It take great photos in all lighting conditions and gives the user the ability to modify ISO speed settings to stop motion in low lighting. The feature set and intuitiveness is far beyond any of the competitors products. I highly recommend this camera.

  5. if you want a slick, and small camera you can put in ur pocket with good picture quality, this is the one! beautiful thin camera! price is dropping very fast on this one! good buy!
