  1. I purchased this camera some time ago and have been impressed with it from day one.

This is one tough Casio. This past week it came down with me to Key West, Florida.... where it was dropped without a case, onto the street at 40 MPH.

When we got back to retrieve the dropped camera, it was in perfect condition. There is no scratch on the screen. It works flawlessly. The only damage is a tiny scuff on the corner.

I'm sold and my next digital camera will be another Casio Exilim.

  2. I got this camera for a christmas present and it's great! It's small enough that I can carry it in my pocket but I did get a carrying case for it to keep it pretty and unscratched. The pictures that it takes are awesome and it has more settings then I know what to do with.

  3. The camera I was sent was not new as advertised. I returned it and was supposed to receive a new camera as promised. Never got because Adorama Camera said that model had been discontinued. Finally got my money back but am not happy with the way I was treated.

  4. I have been using Casio Exilim 10.1 mega pixel cameras since they were first available.

Great photos with lots of built features and controls to get the best shots you can compose.

  5. This camera is very compact & takes very nice snapshots but has a few problems. The camera takes SD & SDHC memory cards. If you are going to shoot at 10 megapixels or near that so you can have high quality when cropping or blowing up images to a very large size (11 X 14 to poster size) you'll probably want to get a 4 or 8 gig SDHC card to use with this camera. Amazon has an 8 gig SDHC card on sale for less than 50 bucks right now (search for it)... The only way to frame the shots with this camera is by utilizing the large LCD screen on the rear of the camera. Unfortunately it is not as clear & sharp as other casio LCD screens though it's ok for most purposes. It also has a tendency to washout on a sunny day making it hard to see & frame a picture. For a better, sharper, clearer LCD screen you can see in bright daylight get the newer, slimmer, slightly lighter 10 mp Casio EX - S10 for around two hundred twenty five bucks. If you want to shoot fairly high quality video you won't get it with this model. This model shots .avi video ar 24 frames per second which looks blurry & somewhat choppy. The newer slimmer Casio's including the EX-S10 will shoot higher quality mp4 video at 30 fps. At the ultra high quality video setting the video looks really nice even to watch on a TV monitor or transfer to DVD using Nero Vision or similar. You can leave your larger digital video camera home except for super special occasions! The newer models also allow the higher quality video to be shot in widescreen if you prefer that look or for widescreen monitors! The newer models like the EX-S10 also have a seprate YouTube video mode so you can shoot small vids tailored to upload to YouTube quickly & easily! This camera also has a very small weak flash which is great for taking most snapshot length photos indoors but nothing further. It has a great battery life but so do all the compact Casio's including the slimmer, newer ones. For the reasons outlined do not make the mistake I made & get this model Casio if you want an ultra compact camera. Get instead the Casio EX -S10 which is slimmer, lighter, has a better viewfinder & takes higher quality video at Ultra High Quality mode & has a special YouTube video mode if you want to post vids on YouTube quickly & easily for around $225.00...

  1. I am very happy with my purchase of my Casio Z-1080 camera. My previous camera was an Olympus Stylus 300. I was very satisified with the Olympus until it broke. The Casio pictures are clearer and I like the wider screen to view the pictures. The sleek design is a plus. I originally purchased the same camera thru Ebay. The camera was suppose to be a new one, but it turned out to be a refurbished camera. I sent it back and got my money back. This was the first time I have shopped using Amazon.com and I am impressed with their service. The Casio exilim EX-Z1080 is by far the best camera I have owned so far. I would recommend this camera to anyone and I already have. My niece bought a Sony and my Casio takes much better pictures.

  2. Let me start off by saying that this is absolutely the best camera I've owned. I love the 10.1MP.

All the "Best Shot Selections" are great presets and work fantastic. I was so shocked that when I purchased this camera you could zoom in like crazy! See things that you would think you were looking under a microscope at!!

The sound works great with the video and the video mode is easy to use.

Overall, this camera is great and I just love it, I've read so many reviews on Amazon about this camera and haven't found many that have had anything negative to say about it. I recommend it! Now, take some awesome pictures! = )

  3. What I like the most of this great camera:
    1) great pictures
    2) automatic settings to take pictures
    3) battery, it lasts forever

  4. This is probably the best compact digital camera that you can buy at any price. Why? Because the vast majority of non-DSLR digital cameras use 1/2.3" ~ 1/2.5" CCD image sensor, but this Casio EX-Z1080 has a 1/1.75" one! It really does make a difference (less image noise) particularly when you shoot in low light condition.

In addition to taking great photos, this camera starts up really fast, has super long battery life, and is easy to operate while packing lots of functions.

Note: There's no carrying case included with this camera, so if you're taking it on a trip right away, you should order a case/pouch too.

  5. Overpriced piece of junk. This camera is terrible in low light. The camera has a maximum slow shutter speed which means you can't shoot in even moderately low light conditions without the moderately crappy flash. Instead of using a slow shutter spead to collect enough light, the camera annouces the shot is 'underexposed' and simply uses its maximum shutter speed and you get a dark shot. Cameras that cost a third this much can do this totally normal function. Why this works so poorly is beyond me. I'm annoyed to have to return this piece of junk.

  1. Nice camera, easy to use lots of different functions all easy and quick to get to with one touch of a button. Takes awsome pictures. Video works great too. Battery life so far has been excelent.

  2. After much research, this camera gives you great value for your money. Images are very good and video quality is great as well. Very fast start up!!! i love it!
however, the Casio SW is not all that good, it is very limited to what you can do unless you buy the upgrade. But there are plenty of picture/video editing freeware out there, so that shouldn't stop buyers.
I droped it once and already got a scratch on the frame, the fram seems very easy to damage... so be careful and make sure you have a camera case.

  3. This phone was recommended to me by a professional photographer and it is the best phone I have ever used.

  4. I saw this camera at CES a few years ago when I was shopping around for a higher resolution pocket camera. (My previous cameras Fuji 2600z 2.1mpxl & Fuji E900 9.0mpxl).It makes the perfect camera for everyday use in a compact size with simple easy to use functions. The screen is large enough my parents can actually use it without squinting. Though they do fumble a big because it is tiny to hold. But because it only has 1 large shiny button up top, even your drunken friends can take quality pictures.

This little digcam is quick loading enough for my camera to take pictures that no one thought you would be able to capture(papparatzi-style). I've taken over 76k shots and haven't had any problems with it. Takes great shots in daylight or nighttime w/flash.

The best part about this camera is that a normal person probably won't even need another battery. If you do it will only cost $10-20. If you shop around a 2mb SD cards are $10/ea. On a 2mb card you can take ~594 photos.

The Good: quick to turn on & take pictures, excellent night/club people shots, super-bright large screen, long battery life, awesome video + sound, easy to use functions, can take pictures less than 2seconds in between(w/flash), edit any part of the video while on the camera, quick loading/saving data, view pictures by date, adorable body color.

The Bad: some of the settings are reset when you turn off the camera, has trouble capturing focused shots of racecars in action, indoor shots w/out flash witll produce a super grainy pics, macro focus starts around 4-5"+, no viewfinder. Keep the image stabilization on or you are going to be in for some trouble.

Easy to Use, simple & that takes nice shots... at the right price. The next step up would be a Canon(which produces more balanced skin colors).I have no regrets about this purchase whatsoever as a cute little daily use camera!

  5. Love the ease of use, though I wish we were back in the days of real, paper manuals. Great display. Picture quality is excellent. The added pixels make for sharp resolution and vibrant, true colors.

  1. i just bought this camera for a gift and now i want to have one. I really recommend this article it works perfectly if you are not professional (like me) you will not have any complaints.

  2. I just bought this camera and I absolutely love it!! It is easy to use and takes incredible pictures. I own a Macbook Pro, and downloading pictures to IPhoto and videos to IMovie could not be any easier. Video quality is good for short videos, but can be grainy when you zoom in. There is also some background noise when using the zoom feature in videos. Since I bought the camera for still pictures and not video, though, I am extremely pleased with this camera and the quality of the pictures that it produces.

  3. Bought this for my 16 year-old daughter. She's a Myspace and Youtube junkie. The camera is an excellent value, very easy to shoot for Internet sites with a simple setting. No more resizing pictures before uploading. With face detection that works and image stabilization, a real nice camera at a very resonable price. Also allows for rapid-fire shots!!

  4. I bought this camera for my daughter who is 9. I got a great deal on it due to someone returning it. At first I was weary of the fact that someone retured it. But I have fallen in love with this camera. Its extremely easy to navigate very light and takes great pictures. I have pretty much claimed the camera for my own now.. I have choosen it over my way more expensive camera. Now planning on buying another one for my mom for mothers day. I highly recomment it.

5 comments about Casio NP-40 Battery for EXILIM Cameras.
  1. This battery is amazing, but that too is its downfall.

I was upgrading from an old camera that used a battery in under 4 hours of use so I thought I would need a spare battery for my EX-Z850. It turns out you do NOT need a spare battery for the EX-Z850.

Standard life is well into 600 photographs if not more. It currently lasts about 4 weeks for me (taking about 5 shots per day). A single battery survived well over 200 photographs at a wedding and didn't ever change the power indicator from green.

So this is a truly great battery, but thoroughly unneccessary unless you are planning 6 week safaris with no method of recharging a single battery.

  2. I am using this in my casio Exilim 6 MP camera.
SO far there is no problems with the battery.

  3. This is a spare battery, but you might not need it. The original battery last a good long time, but if you are going to be away from a charger for a while, these are a good idea.

  4. I had tried "generic" batteries for our Casio cameras and the life on them was horrible. They lasted maybe three months and didn't seem to hold a full charge. So far we haven't had a problem with the Casio brand name batteries. So if you have a choice don't buy the off brand batteries for your digital cameras.

  5. It just keeps on going and going. Videos, still shots, last all day and then some more. Great.

  1. Just use it intermittenly. Cannot comment on battery life, many other functions, etc. yet.
Overall a great extra thin camera, lots of good improvements. I just want to focus on the negatives:
    1. button size. Very small. Easy to mis-press something
    2. button location. Worse than previous design. Always accidentally turn it on. This is my biggest complaint
    3. Size. Slightly thicker than previous design (I had S500).

  2. This is a great camera and it is a good buy for the money. It has a slim design so you can put it in your pocket and take it anywhere. It has a nice large screen for easy viewing.

  3. I really want to like this camera but unfortunantly I don't. Yes the video is good but the pictures could be a lot better. Here are pros and cons of image quality:

PRO - Video is prob the best you will get on a pocket camera like this. It takes SUPERB pictures in medium light and flash pictures.

CON - Atrocious pictures in daylight or bright light situations. The "Auto picture mode" is one of the worst I've seen in these conditions and it is killing my vacation to Italy (yes I am here now with my new camera). It is possible to manually adjust exposure and metering to compensate a little bit BUT THE SETTINGS DON'T SAVE so I have to manually adjust every time I take a picture. Also, WHAT YOU SEE IN THE VIEWFINDER ISN'T ALWAYS WHAT RECORDS AS A PICTURE. The image will be cropped or suddenly washed out when I go back to review....HOW ANNOYING. It is so bad that I am returning the camera when i get stateside again.

  4. I started out thinking this camera was amazing because it was so thin, but after some use I realized it's an honestly bad quality camera. It's design is pretty attractive, not on the level of say a Cyber-SHot T Series, but it looks good. The lens is quite large for only 3x optical zoom and takes up a little less than half of the front of the camera. It's very thin and has a large 2.8 inch LCD which takes up about 3/4's of the back. It has a convenient thumb-rest as well, making it easy to hold with one hand. Video recording is very easy with a touch of a button. The camera includes 30-some-odd best shot modes, which are seen in many cameras now. This is pretty much where the good ends. Its control system is unremarkable at best, with awkwardly small buttons and an uncomfortable zoom switch. The LCD screen is impossible to see in the sunlight and just emits the feeling of low resolution and quality. The menu system is fine, but they only include some features in the sidebar on the LCD so you have to hunt for the rest in the menus. The optical zoom is nothing special at 3x and the anti-shake is digital, not optical so it really doesn't work well and I believe it degrades image quality. On to the images themselves. The camera has very few ISO settings, and anything above ISO 400 looks like it's snowing. Even at low ISO's the camera's pictures look soft. One thing that really bugs me is that in some low-light conditions the color temperature is for some reason really, really warm, making the image look awful. I don't know why it does this but I don't like it. The camera's face-detection doesn't work at all. Sometimes it thinks something's a face when it isn't, and it's only successfully worked for me about 4 times out of a good 600 pictures with this camera. I'd say a good 250+ had people's faces in them. That's a 1/62.5 chance of working at best. When it all comes down to it, this camera is somewhat good looking but this can't compensate for terrible, super-soft pictures. I'd give this camera a pass and buy a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T70 of Canon PowerShot SD870 IS. These cameras have about the same resolution but larger screens, optical stabilization, and the take good pictures. The Canon has a wide-angle lens and 3.6x optical zoom while the sony has a touchscreen and super sleek design. Casio's a small company and doesn't have the build quality or production capapbility or funding to produce a winner yet. It's worth the extra money for one of the other ones, trust me.

    PROS:
    -Somewhat Attractive Design
    -Large Screen
    -Easy Video Recording

    CONS:
    -Terrible, soft pictures
-Low light pictures have really, really warm color temperatures
-Limited ISO range, high ISO's are super noisy
    -Cheap build quality
    -Face detection doesn't work
    -No optical anti-shake
    -Small, awkward buttons

  5. I read a lot of reviews before I bought this Casio camera and they were right on. It's a great camera. I got it and didn't have time to look at the instructions, so I just started taking pics and videos and they came out great. I am very satisfied with this camera. It's small, easy to use and takes great pics and videos. An added bonus was the slide slow feature, my family loved watching our pictures on TV, plus the different background music was fun, too.

5 comments about Casio Exilim EX-V8 8MP Digital Camera with 7x Anti-Shake Optical Zoom.
  1. I received this camera yesterday and it was everything I expected and more! The quality of the pictures are excellent for a mid-range camera and the electronics are first rate. It is obvious that the Casio engineers put a lot of time and thought into the design. The "Best Shot" feature encodes a great deal of knowledge about how to set up the camera for various kinds of shot (e.g., If you want to take a portrait shot of someone and you want the foreground to be in sharp focus but the background to be a little blurred, this camera will adjust itself to give you exactly that).

I gave this product a 5 star rating because of the camera (which after all, is what I bought). Nevertheless I need to report two negative experiences with this purchase - one dealing with the software that came with the camera and one with the purchasing experience through Amazon).

The software gets the lowest possible rating. In sharp contrast to the care and professionalism of the camera's design, the software looks like it was thrown together over a weekend by a couple of amateurs. After hours of working with the software I have been unable to get it to upload movies to my computer. I generally get the message, "Bloken file" (that's not a typo .. it actually says "Bloken"). If the software developers didn't even bother to proofread their error messages, I was left wondering just how much care and testing went into the development of the code. I'm guessing that Casio outsourced the software development. Nevertheless, it's their name on the box so they should have made some effort towards quality assurance.

Finally, I am not entirely happy with the service that Amazon provided. When I bought the camera Amazon suggested that I might also want to buy, "1 Deluxe Accessory Kit with Soft Leather Case + Two (2) Spare NP-50 Li-ion Batteries for Casio Exilim EX-V7 & EX-V8 Digital Cameras." The batteries are indeed, intended for the camera but not the case. The case is physically too small to hold the camera. Nevertheless, the batteries were the main reason I purchased this accessory so I'll probably use the tiny case to hold loose change in the car. Upon reflection, I suspect the case is supposed to hold the batteries but given the above product description, a customer can be forgiven for thinking he was getting a camera case. Amazon needs to have a word with the company that supplied this accessory (Cameta Camera).

Overall (in spite of the software and the accessory problems) I am very happy with this purchase.

  2. Love the camera, it responds to buttons and input fast, feels very solid. Doesn't work perfectly in low light conditions, but this is a trade off because the camera itself is so small and the zoom so crazily large. The screen's perfect, there's no need for a viewfinder because it's always visible, and the battery life is top-notch. I'd buy it again.

  3. I got the idea to get this over at Ken Rockwell's site. Man, this is a great little camera. It's easy to carry. I use a soft little bag that came with a PC mouse, and it all fits in a shirt pocket without scratching anything. The zoom feature is very good. The camera comes with a handy stand for recharging. The big LDC screen makes aiming easy and I've taken some great shots of traffic. I thought the pictures would be blurred, but they are excellent, moving at highway speeds. It's just a fun little camera that takes fantastic pictures.

  4. There is no doubt the EX-V8 an incredible camera and I'm happy to see such great reviews for it. I think a lot of people overlook it because they crave those huge manly zoom lenses with "authentic-sounding" labels emblazoned on them like Schneider, Leica, Zeiss, etc. Maybe it's not cool to have a camera with a wimpy looking flat front?

I have owned a Casio EX-Z750 which I reviewed here a few years ago and have loved it. Casio has been in the digital camera business for a long time and they make rock-solid cameras that take excellent pictures. I can't count the times I didn't want to lug my DSLR or I felt it attracted too much attention but yet I needed something that would produce a decent photograph and the Z750 was perfect. A few weeks ago I was at a Renaissance Faire with my Z750 and wished I had two features the camera lacked ... a more powerful zoom, and Image Stabilization like my DSLR. The first one that I could seriously consider is the brand-new Panasonic DMC-TZ5. With a 10x zoom and IS it seems like an excellent camera, but when I went to look at one I was disappointed how big it is, and that's before the huge lens is zoomed all the way. I reviewed every other camera and found just one that had a decent zoom, IS, and the other features I wanted and was small enough to take everywhere and that was the V8. As soon as I picked one up I was convinced.

Like many Casio cameras this thing feel like it is carved from a solid brick of aluminum (it's not). Mine is called "black" though it really is a very rich gunmetal gray. Every button feels solid and works with a reassuring click. Despite having a 7X lens the overall size is almost identical to my Z750, which is accomplished by having the entire lens built into the camera body. The LCD screen is the same size but even sharper and brighter than my previous camera. Let me spend a little more time on the lens because it is one of the major reasons I bought the camera.

To me there are two ways to take pictures ... either with a DSLR with a great lens in which you carefully compose your photograph and manually set the camera to capture exactly the essence of the moment; or with a pocket point-and-shoot camera in which you want to draw as little attention to yourself so you can capture your subject in their most candid moments. The V8 excels at this because there is no whirring zoom lens that thrusts out toward your subject. It is hard to be natural when a lens is zooming in on you. With the V8 you can zoom in very discretely without alarming your subject. The design of the on/off switch adds to this by simply sliding the lens cover to one side to turn it on. This also offers far more protection to the lens than those flimsy metal leafs that most cameras use. I have seen more of those get smashed than I can count. The V8's door has enough resistance that under most conditions it won't accidentally slide open in your pocket. Another feature that adds to the ability to zoom in on a subject without making them anxious is the placement of the zoom lever. Instead of the obvious place around the shutter release like many cameras, it is operated by sliding a small bar on the back of the camera with your thumb. It feels much more natural to me. Here is a short summary:

PROS: rock solid construction; fully internal 7X zoom lens; 4-way Image Stabilization; amazing wide-format movie mode with superb compression; stereo sound with video; excellent LCD screen; amazing range of features and controls

CONS: I prefer a lens that zooms just a little wider

If you like capturing candid "people" photos that are as natural as possible the V8 may be one of the most ideal cameras ever made. Here's a summary of why:

    1. It looks like an extremely simple fixed lens point-and-shoot camera yet you can unobtrusively zoom in for very nice candid shots.
    2. The dark grey case does not call attention to itself.
    3. The very effective anti-shake means you don't have to have a lot of light to make a good picture.
    4. The rear-mounted zoom slider doesn't reveal to the subject that you are zooming in and out.
    5. When the electronic sounds are turned off, there is absolutely no whirring zoom and focus sounds like on almost every other camera. This camera is absolutely silent. You could take candids at a funeral and not disturb anyone.
    6. If you did need to use flash, let's say at a cocktail party, you can set it to a very low power that gives you enough light without blinding your subject.

Bottom line: Picture quality is important but it's not everything ... I ran side-by side test shots with my Z750, which I thought made excellent photographs. The V8 was consistently superior in every way, especially the dynamic range. With the sole exception of the reds being a little too orange, the V8 is in the league of the very best point-and-shoots made. When considering a camera of this type, size is a major factor, as is ruggedness. Perhaps most important is "am I going to be able to capture a once-in-a-lifetime memory and share it with family and friends?" Remember, a point-and-shoot should be just that, not a replacement for a high-quality DSLR.

Any digital camera is a sophisticated piece of electronics and should be given reasonable care which means getting a good carrying case, not tossing it in a pocket or purse with your keys. Regardless of brand, buy from a reputable dealer and despite anything you believe a digital camera is one of the best reasons to pay the extra 20 bucks for a performance protection plan.

  5. I have had this camera for about 3 weeks now. I was looking for a camera with good quality widescreen DVD resolution video with optical zoom and decent pictures. This camera really excels in the video area. The widescreen DVD quality video is excellent and having 7x zoom with absolutely no mechanical zoom noise is great. The zoom control slides and acivates either a slow or very fast zoom. The 2 grades of zooming is very useful and helps this camera to be a real camcorder replacement. The ergonomics of the zoom control are not the best, though. I do wish the lens was a bit more wide angle, as at 38mm fully zoomed out is narrower view than I would like. Using the electronic image stabilization during videoing aggravates this issue as the field of view is narrowed further to allow for stabilization.

Image quality on this camera is good, but not great. The CCD shift image stabilization really helps when taking high zoom pictures. I have noticed that at all full 7x zoom pictures are noticeably softer than no zoom pics. I have though been very happy to capture pics that I would never have managed with a 3x zoom camera.

My biggest problems with this camera are as follows:
    - Movies are stored in apple .mov format that does not play back well on older windows PCs. All three of my 2-3 year old PCs cannot play back the movies using the quicktime player, they are jerky and the sound stutters. I found that the free VLC media player software plays the video great, but the sound is a screeching mess. The only workaround I have found is to use the free RADtools software to convert the videos to DIVX or XVID format. The videos then play fine on all of my PCs, but this conversion process takes several minutes per minute of video. If you only have newer macs of windows PCs then you are probably fine, but sharing the full resolution video files with others is an issue. The videos upload fine to flickr, and this is what I have been using to share them with others, though flickr reduces the resolution a bit.
    - When playing the movies back using the included camera dock video connection to my TV (standard composite A/V cables), the video does not play at DVD quality. I would guess the 848x480 videos are actually being displayed on my TV at half resolution, maybe 424x240. I find this unacceptable, especially considering the above problem with PC viewing. The dock should have come with a component cable connection and actually play the videos in 480p full DVD resolution.

I bought the black version of this camera (only available at beast buy) and it was at the time on sale for one seventy nine on closeout. If you want to see samples of images and videos see user michaelandanna on flickr, photos tagged with "EX-V8"

  1. Great camera, excellent pictures and superb video capabilities. Small, slim, very user friendly. My only gripe with the camera is that the format is MOV/MPG4 and not AVI/MPG4 which requires that I use quicktime to view videos (as opposed to windows media player).

  2. This is the best digital camera i ever had. Very compact, beautiful color, great photos and superb video.

The photo quality is very good for a non professional camera, you just have to find the best configuration. I had an equivalent model from Sony and i must say, Casio is much better.

Stylish, the camera has a splendid video definition and it`s very easy to make movies.

After a research i think this is the best option for this price and configuration. I am very satisfied until now.

  3. The camera I bought from this vendor was supposed to be new. When I got it and opened it all up it had obviously been opened and appeared somewhat used. This was confirmed when I was able to view pictures ON the camera that the previous owner had taken.

  4. Great little camera. Great pics, great video. Loads of features. Cant be beaten on price and size.

  5. The product is excellent and performs wonderfully. Though I am yet to start using it, but I have the confidence that it will meet my expectations. This is based from past experience of using the same type of camera.

  1. Very disappointed with this camera for the following reasons:
    1. Short Battery Life
    2. Many pictures using auto focus were not in focus
    3. You Tube video mode does not allow you to pause then continue filming, once you stop your done with that video.
    4. Low quality night shots.

    Some good points:
    1. Very slim
    2. Good macro shots

Overall this camera is a 1-STAR! Buy a Canon Elph like me! The battery does not run out even after watching many videos! Super good quality auto focus shots! The LCD is much bigger on ELPH SD750 model. Even though camera is a little thicker in size it is superior quality and battery life.

  2. My son asked for this camera for Christmas. So far we are very impressed. It takes very nice pictures and the video is excellent. Very impressed with how long it records and how much light it captures in dark areas!

  3. I was very surprised with the ease of use and the pictures and videos this camera produces. For the price, this is a great camera. I'm considereing purchasing another because I everyone keeps taking it and using it.

  4. I had the same camera but it got stollen, so I purchased yet another one of the same model. Very stable images (anti-shake works well!) and I particularly like the fact that the picture is taken the same time you snap it - not like a Canon I had the flash went out a couple of times before the snapshot.

  5. I have had this camera a little more than a week, and I already love it. I bought it to replace an Olympus D-435 that was driving me crazy. The old camera had a few flaws that I was careful to look for when shopping around this time. Most importantly, I needed much less shutter lag. The Exilim takes a picture immediately when you press the button, so you never miss action or candid shots. It also has a much bigger display screen so you can tell how well your shots turned out right away instead of uploading blurry pictures. The menu system is easy to get the hang of and there are plenty of settings for many different types of shots (scenery, portrait, candlelight, fireworks, pets, kids, etc.... even FOOD.) I bought mine in combination with a 2GB memory card and that was a wise choice. I can now take up to 461 pictures with everything on the highest settings and thousands if you lower it at all, which is great if you don't want to be uploading pictures every day.
I have used the camera in different situations and on many different settings and so far all my pictures have turned out beautifully. I even took pictures while riding in a bouncy golf cart and they are still crisp and clear as can be.
I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a small, easy to use digital camera that takes great pictures with little effort. And it definitely comes at the right price.

  1. I bought this Camera in July of 2007 for my wife. She has used it to take maybe 20-30 pictures. After 3-4 months the battery died, so I contacted Casio. They sent a brand new battery which also died in 2-3 months. Casio has offered to send another battery. They say that that the battery will dies if you let it discharge all the way. The last battery lasted maybe 1 charge. Stay away from this camera.

  2. The camera is easy to use (very intuitive), has excellent battery life, and fits in my pocket, bag, etc. I went on a three week trip to France, took hundreds of pictures and only had to recharge when I got home. The battery died about a year in but a quick call to casio customer service (I waited maybe 3 minutes for a rep), told them about the battery problem and they just sent one to me. It was there in less than 3 days!! Great all around but really pleased with the customer service.

  3. For a camera of its size, this camera received excellent reviews--I have not been disappointed. I am especially impressed at how quickly it captures a photo.

  4. The look and feel of this camera shouts quality. The camera works great but takes some time to get used to the shake associated with such a small, light camera. The anti-shake feature does help some. I expect less of an issue as I become more acquainted with the size.

  5. there are so many reviews about picture quality, I am going to leave that alone, but a couple things I noticed about this camera we purchased for our 13 year old, besides the fact that she loves itis....

It does take pictures fairly quickly. I think most cameras are getting better at this, but that was always my biggest complaint about digital cameras.

This camera comes with a battery and charger, not double AA compatable. That would annoy me, but she doesn't mind. The charger isn't like a Nintendo DS charger, it is much bigger and you have to take the battery out of the camera to charge it. So If your battery goes dead in the middle of the party you aren't just going to pop in some AA's. You have no camera. So plan ahead.

The second thing that bugs me about this camera is that the screen is alway exposed. So purchase a small slip case for this camera to help protect the screen.

The third thing I do not care for in this camera and the sony cyber shot offers is an eye peice you can look into, if it is too sunny to see the screen. I had this camera outside and I couldn't see anything in the screen due to the sunny day. that would drive me crazy. I had to guess at the direction to point the camera.
My daughter didn't seem to care. And on the positive side it is digital so if the pictures don't turn out. You don't have to pay for them or waste film.
I am sure my daugter's plan with this camera is lots of pics of her friends. so it is going to do what she wants it to do.
I personally would never purchase this camera. I had a sony cyber shot several years ago that I liked, but didn't take great pictures under certain lighting indoors. Cybershots are made better these days and you can use AA. I know have a canon powershot this is in a whole diferent price range from this camera, but is fantastic. And has a 10X zoom lens instead of the 3X zoom.

But the casio exilim does take nice pictures. ANd is a good little camera for the 150 bucks plus the cost of an SD memory card(10 to 30bucks) and a small case(10bucks). 25 bucks or so for an extra battery that needs to be specific for the camera.
