- My son loves the camera, the only thing I didn't realize that it takes AAA batteries. I know that there are some cameras similar to my sons that take AA. Other than that were good. Thank you.
- This is the worst camera i've ever seen for many reasons:
1. This camera only works outdoors or in a cmpletely iluminated room.
2. The flash is very useless at night.
3. It consumes batterries extrmely fast (it uses AAA)
4. The still pictures quality is very bad.
5. The videos have awful sound and a extremely poor quality. They appear with those big pixel squares.
I don't recommend this camera for anyone. Not eve a 5 years-old kid will enjoy it.
- I bought this camera for my son because I thought it had everything a child would want and I was right. My son spents tons of time with his little camera, I enjoy this camera too when I get bored I get my son's camera and listen to the music on the mp3. This camera is very nice and it is really cheap. the only bad thing is that it does not has a rechargable batterie on it but that does not matter if you buy some AAA rechargable batteries and a charger. I totally recomend this item to everyone who is interested on it.
- my parents bought me this camera for x-mas four years ago and since then it has been sitting in my closet collecting dust. There is a lot to this camera that is wrong.
1. The picture quality is HORRIBLE! The pictures are too dark even with the flash on.
2. Getting photos on the computer is a pain. My brother is a computer wizz and he could not get the photos onto the computer.
3. The battery life is pathetic. You take three to four shots and your`e done you need to go buy more batteries.
So save yourself the trouble and do NOT buy this camera unless you want another thing in your closet collecting dust.
- As a general rule, I think buyers should beware of any product that combines more than two functions. This combination camera/video recorder/voice recorder/mp3 player is a prime example. If it did just one of these things well, it might be a useful item. Unfortunately, it takes mediocre pictures and records substandard video due to its cheap optics. It would have been better marketed as a cheap mp3 player that also happens to take pictures. That being said, it's not completely useless- a kid would probably love this thing. If you want a fun gift for a youngling who's only interested in taking silly snapshots and recording fart noises, this would be a decent choice.

5 comments about Sony HDR-SR7 AVCHD 6.1MP 60GB High Definition Hard Disk Drive Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom.
- - Excellent design, 5.1 sound effect is too good
- I actually returned back this piece and opted for traditional Mini DV camcorder Sony DCR HC 96.
Reason for my frustration in SR7 was its compatibility issues. Its like once you buy this one, you would have to (almost) buy HD TV, HDMI cable and may be few costly softwares to work with high quality video format. Also it would require large amount of storage capacity and processing power (Yes, even though this is a hard drive model, processing is costly). And when I through of all these collectively, that package is something I cannot afford.
> Sony MUST provide HDMI cable with this buy when you are paying $1300 for it
> Since toshiba has signed off the video format war, sony would definitely come up with one good Blueray camcorder soon.. and then this camcorder would not be this hot.
MiniDV is still my favorite. I can easily get DVD quality, superb sharpness and colors. Yes there are some efforts to convert it from Mini DV to DVD but that one time work is ok if you are getting nice quality.
- The camera has shot good videos but to play them you need a powerful computer. So unless you have a dual core high speed processor you may not like to view the videos... I returned mine as i didn't want to upgrade my laptop just for the sake of AVCHD video format... i don't know when this format problem will get resolved or probably i will wait till my current laptop is completely obsolete...
- I think the obvious has been stated.
The camera does a great job with good lighting. Low level lighting is an issue.
I knew that before I bought.
I also knew to have Sony Vegas primed for the AVCHD formatted files.
Playback is difficult on slower processors and editing via a laptop even with core2 duo processors is rough.
I hook the camera up to the TV via the mini hdmi/usb thumb drive via PS3/USB cable to PS3/SD DVD with AVCHD as BR on PS3.
The battery life has been ok for my usage. A backup will be necessary for vacation/long shoots.
Controls and interface are user friendly and the "easy" button is nice for instant settings and shoot.
I am very happy with this camera.
- Sony, getting better all the time: This is not my first video camera, I started about 20 years ago with the Betamovie and with it I've made videos with such good quallity that I didn't change it by the next one, the Video 8 because it still wasn't better until the first Hi8 appeared which was really better than the Video 8 and the Betamovie, after it I've been changing my video cameras each three or four years and once I've tested a Panasonic which wasn't bad but, I've always felt better with Sony, and each time I buy a new one, I find new good surprices, beeing them in the head of those products's tecnology.
The only one thing I would complain about this last one, the HDR-SR7, is not having the red light for the photo camera which you need to get focus in dark.
- I am using this camera, and it is nice. However, my biggest gripe is that it is not Mac compatible. Many creative types use a Mac, which comes with very nice movie software. I have both Macs and PCs, but would have preferred to use my Mac.
Because it wasn't compatible, I purchased Sony's Vegas, but would have been much happier using iMovie.

5 comments about Sony DCRTRV520 Digital Camcorder.
- When we bought this camcorder I was a little worried, since I never handled a camcorder before. I had no problems! It was so lightweight and easy to use. I love the display that tells you how much time is left on the battery. I would recommend this camcorder to everyone!
- DCR-TRV520. I bought this Digitial 8 camera (I am not a previous user/owner of any camcorder) about 4 weeks ago after much prognosticating over the miniDVD format in the Panasonic and Canon brands for a similar price (I would have gone for the Sony miniDVD but didn't want to pay the extra bucks). So I made my decision based on the extra features of optical stablization, manual focus and the greater zoom capability - also I trusted the Sony brand more, but that reason was entirely subjective. I have not been disappointed with this camera. The stabilization is excellent - in fact, while I like compact cameras and would have preferred miniDVD because of size, this camera is not that much bigger, and increased size and weight may be an advantage as the camera feels solid and steady to hold. The auto focus is excellent - I may never need to use the manual focus unless I want to get really fancy. The zoom capability works very well, even at the highest mag., and is more useful than what I would have thought. This alone places it above the other miniDVD cameras including the Sony which have lower zoom. With iMovie, $50 from Apple (I have a Mac G3), the only extra I needed was the $30 Firewire cable (4 pin-camera, to 6 pin-Mac) and I was importing and editing the video. Also, I put in a Hi8 tape of our wedding and was amazed that this non-digital format was automatically transmitted from the camera into iMovie as digital information with no apparent loss in resolution! Regarding memory stick, with iMovie there does not seem to be a way to directly import the stills, but if they are first copied to the tape, then they can be imported. However, the resolution after doing this is no better than a still made with iMovie from video. Maybe the resolution will be better after direct import, but I doubt it. In Photoshop a video still and memory stick import from tape has the same pixel count as specified for the still camera - 680 x 460 I think or thereabouts. Some people say the memory stick stills suck in resolution - they are not that bad. Hey, you're buying a camcorder first and foremost, not a digital camera. One other reason I got this camcorder was that some reviews said the Canon and Panasonic miniDVD didn't work too well at low light levels. I've never tried those cameras, but I can also tell you that this Sony I bought works great at low light as well. Sony 520 versus 320 - I went for ther 520 because of the bigger LCD display - I'm glad I did - the extra size is excellent as you can replay what you have shot and easily see it on the screen. Overall, this camera has no weaknesses and some advantages. Another thought - if you are considering buying Hi8 or even 8 so you can get a cheaper camcorder - don't! There is so much you can do with digital if you have the computer. and the video quality if better. Its worth the extra bucks. Cheers!
- I've owned camcorders before but never digital. Before I made my choice, I did a lot of research on the net. The Sony products always seemed to show up on the recommended lists. I have a friend who owns the DCR-TRV320 and decided to check it out. I was very impressed with the camera. The features of the 320 and the 520 are basically the same. I like the bigger LCD screen on the 520 though and went for that instead. I Nightshot feature is GREAT on these cameras. You can shoot virtually anything up to 10 feet away in TOTAL darkness. I recommend this camera to anyone looking for a high quality, fully featured digital camera. But note that you can always save some bucksn if you opt for the DCR-TRV320. One extra note though. Get yourself a longer lasting battery with your new camera. Or at least a spare one. Anyone who's owned a camcorder will tell you the same!
- I've had my TRV520 for a little over a year now and I'm very pleased with it. The quality of the video when transferred to VHS is very high. The camera is implicitly easy to use and handle. But to be honest there were one or two things that I found disappointing: The quality of the stills taken are not that great. Unless the light on the subject is very good I find that the images are quite grainy. Do not buy this camera for excellent digital photos. You won't get um. The images are just okay. I'm in the market for a digital camera now. Another thing I find annoying is that the camera shuts off if there no activity for 3 mins. This is a 'battery saving mechanism' but I have not found a way to disable it if the the camera is plug into the AC outlet. Other than that, I think it's a very good buy and I won't be changing it anytime soon.
- It is not perfect, but I have used it at least once a week for two and a half years now. The zoom is out of this world! I have taken photos as close as two feet and really far away and have gotten super clear shots. I have taken still, moving and portraits. I like it. My friends like it too. It has a lot of flexability for taking pictures. For example; I run the camera and then when I plug it into my firewall I am able to take out still shots, the ones I want.I can also put my film on a video cassette.Personally, I would have rathered gotten a full version of the MGI software for the price I had to pay for the camera though. But I do like the software. I also shoot a lot in the dark. I'm using the night shot & super night shot right now.Super night shot works well although if there is a lot of movement, the pics are distorted. I plan to buy a light soon. Bottom line, I don't regret my purchase.Mechanically, I have had absolutely no problems. I have an 8 hour battery and I use the lcd screen to film. It is sufficeint.

- I ordered this camera for its video. when I recieved the camers, the first thing I had to do was copy the instruction book into a much larger size so I could read it.
After reading the book three or four times, and taking pictures and videos, I was still confussed as to what I was doing and how to recover what I had shot.
Now it is time to download. Referr to book of instructions?? Do not know what or how to download.
Plug camera into computer wait to see down load to happen nothing.
Ihad put instructional disc into computer once thought I had done something wrong, deleated disc imformation, reloaded disc, same thing. Nothing.
This would be a great camera video unit, if the manufacture could print a booklet in large enought print, and be more user friendly. I am still trying to learn this camera, but not very happy overall.

- This is an amazing piece of equipment. Get the large battery for better balance and OVER EIGHT hours of taping. Broadcast quality. You will rarely NEED to go off "auto" unless you have special needs or are in a totally controlled studio situation where you can control lighting and movement. Pricey but worth every penny. The HD is as good as Discovery HD Theater's, and the std. DV recording (due to the new chips) is better then other 3-chip cameras I have owned.
- This is a very easy to use and high end video camera from Sony. The 20x optical zoom is amazing and works great in the outdoors. This HDV is a very nice step up from my DCr-Vx2100 that I have been using for 4+ years. Just hope it can handle the outdoors... I am very happy.
- I have had this camcorder for two months now and I could not be happier. The camera is great indoors and out, including low light conditions. The high definition quality is incredible, the best I have seen. I also like the small size and light weight, a definite improvement over the fx-1.
- We needed another camcorder didn't really want a HD because of the problems of no software out there to create HDDVDs. We bought this because our other sony is 10yrs old and didn't want to buy what we had. We are very glad we did. Even regular tapes look stellar in the 1080i format. The 20x zoom is to drool over. It is wonderful we use it for birding only now they are moving. All the techie stuff should come from my husband, but I am writing this so you won't hear it from me. I do not hear him swear or crank about difficult maneuvers. He likes the programable buttons. I found the change to Final Cut HD easy. You edit in HD and made the non HD DVD (we use a MAC) record it back to HD tape and wait till the software is written. Broadcast wants tape anyway. Ease of handling cam great, additional sound source easy to deal with. Mike on cam improved over our other camcorder. Easy to carry with handle. Need to use manual focus at times. Lots of buttons if you want a point and record not a good choice.

- I read the reviews and thought I'd still give it a try.
After one battery charge, I was "lucky" enough to have a defective unit - the camera wouldn't start again after the first charge.
My observations from that first short use were:
- Quality of pictures was very poor (my Pentax Optio 4mp camera takes better quality photos) -- very disapointing for a 6mp camera.
- The flash was generally useless, and actually hurt quality
- The camera was very uncomforable if you don't have very small hands. My wrist hurt after using it for 20 minutes.
- The video was ok, but the focus was very slow (and noisy).
- I had the same problem as several others -- that the camera died shortly afer getting it (shows very poor quality).
All-in-all don't waste your money. You can get a much better camera at a lower price.
- Delivery of camera was very prompt. Camera was what I expected, I am very pleased with it's portability, and usefulness. Sanyo support of the VPC-C6 camera is great with Sanyo Firmware Update Downloads. Thanks!
- I bought this camera after using a Sony MiniDV (very small one) camera over 8 years. The image quality of Sanyo is horrible compared to my old Sony under any condition: daylight, night etc. However price, size and easy operation makes this camera a winner as you can have it with you all the time. So if you want to use this camera as a second camera for everyday use go for it, but this is not a serious replacement to a high-end camcorder.
- I bought this camera because I was hoping for a small, portable camcorder that would also take okay pictures. I brought it on a family beach vacation for a week and returned it as soon as I got back. First of all, I should have tried the water resistant/proof model instead - I don't know what I was thinking. The camcorder and the camera are both pretty good in sunlight/outdoor situations. They pretty much stink indoors or if you need to use the flash. The camera response time is sooooooo slow, especially with a flash. The still pictures are so blurry indoors that the subject looks transparent. It produces too many video files to manage easily (this is my first digital camcorder so this may be the case with all of them but boy is it cumbersome because you have to watch each file to know what is in it - there is no thumbnail picture to help you out). Also, the files are not compatable with windows movie maker which I have been using for a while and am comfortable with. I think you are better off getting a good digital still camera that takes video for now until this form factor can be improved.
- I think a lot of people underestimate this camera, i bought this for 250.00 at radio shack around Christmas of 2007 on sale, also the display. The warranty was about 55.00 dollars for two years. I think that a lot of users just don't know how to use this camera. If you go into the settings and change the filters, or image size or even the mode, auto, fireworks, sports, etc. I typically use the sports setting making picture virtually clear. Also when taking a picture you slightly press in on the camera button do the green box shows up, there's no flash delay. I love taking pictures with the Black and white filter with the sports setting, the sports setting allows no blurriness. Pictures look professional and a lot people ask me where i get my pictures done. When outside take off the flash, let the sun do it for you. The video setting lets you upgrade your picture setting to HD-quality. People need to just have fun and explore this camera. Like I said before, this camera is so underestimated.
