1 comments about Designing Public Consensus: The Civic Theater of Community Participation for Architects, Landscape Architects, Planners, and Urban Designers.
- I found this book to be very helpful to my work as a consulting planner. The stories are excellent reminders of the battles hard fought. I agree that projects are better for the public process they go through. There has not been a good book on this subject, so Ms. Faga has written a great book for students, professionals and community activists alike.

5 comments about East 40 Degrees: An Interpretive Atlas.
- Um atlas com gráficos excelentes a diversas escalas e texturas, um texto com uma linguagem clara e apaixonante.
- Jack Williams' "East40 degrees: An Interpretive Atlas" is a stunning account, that showcases the multiple, but unique landscapes that make up our vast country. The interaction between Alabama's courthouse square towns and the Applachian Mountains trails that lead them to Northern Maine were beautifully illustrated in such a "Mcharg" way that I found them enchanting and quite beautifully laid out.
- East 40 Degrees is a beautifully written and exquisitely illustrated book on American landscapes.
- What could have been a really awesome graphic study, comparing rural towns of the Appalachians, turned out to be a just maps and essays. Interesting idea though.

2 comments about From the Center: From the Center.
- A great book illustrating what Sci-Arc is and does for the institution of Architecture. Sci-Arc is clearly pushing the boundary as to what is preceived as architecture not only within itself but also for the community in whole. A good choice if interested in thinking how architecture can be understood on a deeper level or from a educational stand point of what is Sci-Arc philosophy. Also, Thom Mayne won the Pritzker Architectual Award this year who is one the guys that founded Sci-Arc.
- Founded in 1972 as a radical alternative to conventional architectural education, SCI-Arc continues to defy the standard model of an academic institution. According to Neil Denari, SCI-Arc's Director,"since its beginning, the school has always been about ideas of progress and the frontier, by exploring architecture as the fusion of aesthetic, social and cultural concerns." SCI-Arc is continuing that traditional by teaching people to see, design and develop things other people don't see -by not only educating architects, but also by the school's lecture series, community projects, exhibitions, and publications such as this one by Monacelli.
Anyone interested in education, design and/or the creative process should enjoy this book!

2 comments about City Sense and City Design: Writings and Projects of Kevin Lynch.
- This is THE BOOK for anyone -not exclusively urban planners- who wants to understand not only the physical form of the city, but how its citizens interact with the urban landscape. Through his experience and observation, Lynch reminds us that the most important component of a city -the reason why they are built- are its inhabitants.
- Michael Southworth and Tridib Banerjee, former students of Kevin Lynch at MIT's School of Urban Studies and Planning, have organized a brilliant collection of most of Lynch's works. Here we can find his seminal ideas pointed out trough his researches in the field of environmental perception, as well as his urban design projects. The book still presents a good biography of Lynch and serves as a very interesting complement to the books that this fundamental author wrote. It is an extremely important work both to architectural and urban design students as well as to professionals and researches.
