1 comments about Cut & Assemble Classic Sports Cars: Full-Color Models of the Jaguar XKE, Porsche 911 and Six Others (Models & Toys).

  1. This book is not for preschoolers, but for experienced model builders. The author, an artist, drew accurate illustrations of classic sports cars, like the Triumph TR4 and MGB, among others, in two-dimensional form with the intention of people carefully cutting out the drawings and assembling detailed models of the cars. Steering wheels, seats, and so on are represented in the convertibles. Very detailed and authentic, and only for the careful.

2 comments about Collectors Guide to Diecast Toys and Scale Models: Identification & Values (Collector's Guide to).

  1. I must say that I really regret buying this book. After waiting anxiously to receive it I was, upon opening it, almost immediately disappointed. It turned out to be an alphabetical listing of companies which produced die-cast models, with a brief (1 paragraph in some cases) description of company history. While it does list each model produced by the various companies and offer a valuation, it fails to describe the models in any detail. Therefore, a prospective collector has virtually no useful information to go on. It doesn't even tell you the various colours the models have been released in, or any details which might differenciate one model from another.

As for photos. This is another area where this book falls down. Very few graphics; once again - a real let down.

All in all, a very poor showing. Save your money and buy a different book!

  2. This book is not a complete listing of any single make of diecast car (although it does come close for a few makes) but rather a list of all diecast manufacturers that have ever existed with a representative sampling of prices and photos.

1 comments about PCM's Guide to Gas Pump Restoration.

  1. Benjamin and Henderson have authored a well respected series of books about gas station memorabilia and history. They also publish the magazine Petroleum Collectibles Monthly. This book has step-by-step illustrations of visible glass cylinder lever action, clockface meter and electric computing gas pumps. The over 1000 pictures of paint schemes show how different gasoline brands and grades were two toned, colors used and where signs or decals were placed. Restoring your pump correctly in a professional way enhances the value of your investment. See more info at Oldgas.com

3 comments about New Complete Book of Collectible Cars 1930-1990.

  1. Comprehensive in reach/scope if not every detail, this book is an essential part of even a tiny research library for those interested in answering the questions of looks or specs on cars from the distant and recent past. Although listing only through 1990 models, more recent are rarely deemed potential collectibles, and so the relevance is largely unscathed by the decade plus since publication.

Styling and mechanical changes and specs for every model of every listed year (1930-1990) fit all but the most detailed needs. Whether used for perusing alternatives for the first/next purchase, checking production runs to assess rarity or looking at 13 year-old valuations, this book was and still is a gem.

  2. If you have ever asked yourself questions like: What did the grille look like on a '50 Ford compared to a '51? or When did they bring our the E-type Jag? or What is a '56 Dodge LaFemme? or What the heck is a 1930 Ruxton?

If you have any interest in cars of the past, this book is a must-have! It features not just American-made cars but most European makes such as Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Ferrari, MG, Mercedes, etc. It has pictures of most and details of the model's history, engines, production, and prices in 1992 dollars (that's when the hardcover book was published). The prices are relevant, though, in that you car see how a particular car compared to another at that time.

I highly recommend this book as a source of automobilia history. Never have I seen a concentration of auto info in one publication. Remember, we'll never see them built like that again!

3 comments about Standard Catalog of Corvette 1953-2005 (Standard Catalog of Corvette).

  1. For the price, this is a very nice book, providing important information on all Corvette models through 2005. It also has many good color photos. This is a nice companion book to the small Corvette Black Book. I'd recommend adding this to your Corvette book library.

  2. The book is mostly very bland facts and figures. The intro to each model year is very brief and then goes straight into VINs and paint codes. I also don't like how the options and prices are written in paragraph form instead of as a list. That makes it difficult to compare between model years.
However, my biggest complaint are the book's "quality control" errors. There are a few spelling errors and there are no less than 10 pictures that are mislabled (example: a magnetic red convertible labled as an electron blue Z06). The price guide section also inexplicably contains the header: "The prices listed here represent a sample of British sports cars imported to North America, taken from the 2004 Old Cars Price Guide. If you do not see your car here , check the 2005 edition of Cars and Prices or contact the club of your British car."
There are a lot of great pictures in this book, which is its saving grace.

  3. Very general overview - with a good pricelist. Covers all vette models - good info on colors and engine codes.

2 comments about Woodys.

  1. This is a great book for anyone who loves cars made with wood. It covers everything from the earliest Pre-World War One cars to Ninties vehicles with fake trim; from beautifully restored originals to hot rods and even custom-built one-offs; and not just wagons, but sedans and convertibles, too. If you want to know how to build or restore a Woody, this is not the book to by (although it's great for inspiration), but if you just want to enjoy looking at these beautiful cars, and finding out more about them, it's a definate must-buy.

  2. If you enjoy looking at vintage woody automobiles this is the book to read. There is even a 1951 Chevy wagon that has painted wood that is so good you can't tell the difference between the real thing.

If you love cars, buy this book!
