4 comments about Boyds Plush Animals Collector's Value Guide (The Boyds Collection).

  1. Wonderful paperback for Boyd Plush collectors. This book has great pictures, and identification details of all Boyd Plush. Best info for insurance purposes with original prices as well as current values. Super tool to update a database of your collection. Love it!

  2. This is a wonderful guide for Boyd Plush collectors. This book has pictures of all plush. Also gives original prices as well as current values. There is a place to record the value of your collection for each of the pages towards the back of the guide.
    Highly recommend!

  3. This book contains full color pictures of all Boyds plush animals up until Spring of '99. Yet, the book also informs the reader of up and coming new releases and retirements. Of the 221 pages in the book, 46 pages give information about the Boyd's company and info on all the plush animals. 146 pages contain the full color pics of all the Boyds plush animals and each one's information such as height, color, year issued, year retired and current value. There are 4 pages to list your collection of Boyds animals and write in their market value. 14 pages list info about furniture and accessories for your Boyd's plush. Finally, there is an 11 page index for looking up all the Boyds mentioned in the book. With an alphebetical listing of all the names of the animals, and separate catagories such as Bears, Cats, and Hares, it takes just minutes to find exactly what plush you are looking for. This book also gives info on bearstones, folkstones ect., limited edition and exclusive pieces and the F.o.B club. This book definitely deserves its 5 star rating.

  4. This book is much better than last year's in that fewer bears have been omitted and the "long losts" of Boyds have turned up in its pages with some beautiful photographs. I do miss the photos of the Boyds in scenes with accessories (T.H.B. Style) side by side. But these photos are great! CVG prices are realistic and in some cases even low - unlike some other value guides - these are the real prices people are paying this Spring 99 for many of the pieces I see bought and sold. The book has one serious SHORTCOMING - not found in the 99 partner book for resins (The Bearstone Collection...and Desk Animals, also by Checkerbee). The alphabetical index is great -- the organization is fine -- BUT there is no numerical index on this guide so that users can use the "Bearfinder Index" by name and by number - only by name. As Boyds have Boyds numbers assigned to them and sometimes arrive to owners as mystery bears - known only by number, this book makes you work hard in such cases to determine who your little prize is - even if he is mint in the manufacturer's bag with a Boyds Style # written on it. But - don't be deterred - If you are a serious collector, you will use it daily! And, you'll see lots of nice little furry faces while you hunt! It will make you smile.

5 comments about The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beanie Babies (The Complete Idiot's Guide).

  1. I just got started collecting, and this book has given me all the background information on what to expect. It's impossible for any book to keep up to date with the actual Beanies, but you won't find a better guide to the hobby itself.

  2. Some many books on BBs are simply price lists or have a very limited period of usefulness. This one is different and will be my reference of choice. There is no way to predict what Ty will do, but this is the book that can track what has happened to date. The section on spotting counterfeits is invaluable and has saved me from making a couple of costly mistakes. I also got some chuckles from the creatively posed beanies in the nice color photos. Right after reading my own copy, I immediately sent a copy to my beanie-crazed young nieces.

  3. This book is a good attempt at being different from all of the other Beanie Baby books and guides. However, it is not that easy to read because the authors grouped the Beanies according to genre, not alphabetically. Black and white pictures were not all that useful. Some background information (but not a lot) sets this book apart from the rest of the pack. However, it makes little attempt at saying what makes a particular beanie baby popular or unpopular or with whom. A good guide to starting out in the hobby but not useful if you are already immersed.

  4. This is a great book about BEANIE BABIES! This is especialy good for beginner collectors. It teaches you special facts about the beanies and how to collect them. I think if you like beanie babies you should deffintly get this book!!!!!!!!

  5. I really liked this book because it had all kinds of odd information. There is more than 5 blurbs of different facts per page. It has how to avoid counterfits, facts about each beanie, and more. It even has a checklist with pictures. This is definatly the best Beanie Baby book I own. It is perfect for begginers and experienced Beanie collectors.

5 comments about My Beanie Baby Binder.

  1. I just recently dusted off my binder and tried to go to the website listed on the back. No site found. I searched for the binder on Amazon and found that the updates have been disc. I'm so disappointed because I thought it was best one offered for collectors. FYI, the last binder published was a Final Millennial Edition that includes a 12/31/99 Retired section. The one I have is signed by Peg, also. If anyone knows why the updates never happened, please respond.

  2. I really love the book, but I can not find the refills for the notebook. Do you have an idea where I can find these.

  3. I love my book but updates have stopped. I wish updates could be started again. I would recommend that the available books be purchased. The last update was Summer of 1999.I am having trouble finding updates. If any one knows how to get up dates, please e-mail me.

  4. I love my book but updates have stopped. Perhaps there is a copy right infringement. I wish updates could be started again. I would recommend that the available books be purchased.

  5. The Binder is great, the ony problem I am having is I can not find updates. If any one knows how to get up dates, please e-mail me.

4 comments about Furby Official Trainers Guide.

  1. I am very disappointed in this manuel. It was a manuel on the old generation furbies, not the 2005 models. I was directed to get this manuel to help trained my new high tech furbies. Well 3 weeks after I ordered the book (paid overnight) I looked at it and realized I had been ripped off. The only good thing was I do have first generation furbies that I can train alittle more.

  2. I bought my Furby from a second hand store, and I had no idea what my Furby was talking about most of the time. I bought this book, and it explained everything about Furbys from what the Furbish words meant to instructions to play all of the Furby games from Hide and Seek to using your Furby as a fortuneteller (for fun "yes/no" questions). It even includes tricks that kids (and adults!) will love, like how to make your Furby burp eight times in a row or get a case of hiccups. Also included where photos of other Furbys available, Furby accessories, and Furby history. It contains a lot of information within a short number of pages. I am not sure what, if any, imformation comes with the Furby in the original package, but for me (having no instructions) this was a fantastic book that has led me to have a great time with my Furby, Delola!

  3. This book is just GGGRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT!!!It has EVERYTHING you would ever need to know about Furbys!!! BUY IT!!!!!!!!!

  4. This book is not worth buying - it is already outdated. If you really want information on Furbys, browse through websites from Furby fans. You will probably find more current and helpful information there. A true disappointment!

1 comments about Big Book of Little Bears: Identification & Price Guide.

  1. This new, year 2000 book contains 160 pages with more than 300 large, sharp, full color photos, and prices of more than 1,200 collectible bears. There's a nice introduction and plenty of useful text in this book. Topics range from Avon Full O'Beans, to Chilly Bears, Godiva, Harley-Davidson, Paddington, Ty, Beanie, Winnie-the-Poo and Yogi Bear. There's information on Bear Trends, Tips for Buying and Selling Bears, Using the Internet, Tips for selling on E-Bay. Also data on current lingo, bear condition, counterfeit bears and a list of internet resources. Very interesting and valuable for collectors of little bears.

5 comments about Mad Cow USA: Could the Nightmare Happen Here?.

  1. Eeeek! After reading this I am never, ever eating non-organic meat again. And if I win the lottery I think I'll raise my own critters for eggs & milk (or better yet pay someone else to do it!). This book is frightening but helps explain why many of us feel so damned cruddy most of the time. There are so many toxins and chemicals and other assorted grossities in our food supply it's a wonder many of us are still breathing.

Parts of the book are a bit meandering and repetitive but I am very glad I took the time to get through it.

  2. This is an excellent activist book on the discovery of a new type of disease, BSE, also called Mad Cow Disease. The story involves a very interesting history of the science as well as the reactions of the beef and fast food industries.

In a nutshell, the disease appears to be caused by an improperly folded protein (a "prion"), which when it enters the bloodstream can multiply and eventually turn the host's brain into mush, with horrible consequences of course. What the authors highlight is that the mode of transmission appears to be ingestion of these bent proteins, principally from infected cows, years if not decades before symptoms appear. They also stress that the manner in which cows are raised in industrial agriculture makes transmission far more likely: they are directly fed ruminants (leftover cow remains that cannot be eaten by humans), thereby transferring the prions on a massive scale. Humans can then eat them and perhaps become infected by BSE.

After this fascinating and beautifully writtern history, the authors then explore what should be done. While some ruminant feeding has ceased, they argue, the actions of beef producers are both too little (because they are voluntary) and inadequate (because they allow certain forms of ruminant, such as blood, to be fed to cows today). This part of the book is pure advocacy and, I believe, effective in arguing that all ruminant feeding must cease. While I cannot weigh in on the science, it really got me to think in a more informed way.

Recommended. This could become a far greater debate if, it turns out, a lot more infected beef-eating Americans are found. The authors stimulate debate.

  3. Six years before the appearance of mad cow disease in the US, this book predicted it. Mad Cow USA warned that the meat industry and the government were failing to take the necessary steps to prevent the disease here, and using falsehoods and PR to cover-up their failings. Unfortunately, this book nailed it.

  4. Parden the pun but where's the beef?
If Dr. Gajdusek was accused of child abuse, how does that relate to Mad Cow?
If Kuru affected some brain eaters before Mad Cow entered the world's vocabluary does that require a whole chapter?
If sheep drop dead from a relative of BSE who cares?
The authors buried the dangers of beef so deep in unrelated and unimportant information, an earth mover couldn't get to the point.
Most meat eaters will write this book off as pure science totally unrelated to everyday life.
Ironicly, those same meat eaters have the most to loose from a carnivore diet. While BSE is rare, there are a million other reasons to avoid meat not the least of which is the filthy slaughter houses.

  5. Wow! Judging from the prices of these used copies, the scalpers are out in force now that we have MCD in USA. You can get this book FREE as a download at www.prwatch.org/books/mcusa.pdf .

It is a great book, with a great history of the disease, its epidemiology, and uncovers the truth about the beef industry and their ties to the Dept of Agriculture. Get it!

5 comments about Rosie's Price Guide for Ty's Beanie Babies.

  1. I don't really remember but all I know is i want to go back to my friends house to read it again!

  2. Rosie Wells has been tracking, reporting, pricing collectibles of all kinds since before the Beanie craze. Her new Beanie price guide demonstrates her professionalism in covering new trends in collecting. The pictures are beautiful, and her comments make this a must have resource. Thanks Rosie!

  3. I like this book a lot.If you need information on beanies get this book

  4. This book is perfect for every Beanie Babies collector! It offers a detailed Beanie history, counterfeit information, names, pictures, variations, poems, birthdays, checklists, detailed explanations.... the list goes on and on. The only problem I have with this book is the price guides. Luckily, they're given in ranges, but since prices of Beanies change daily, you have to take the prices with a grain of salt. Still, since Rosie uses prices ranges rather than actual figures, you can assume it's pretty close. The book is still a must for every avid collector.

  5. Great discription for every Beanie Baby and it's tag. This book has all you need to know about each and every Ty Beanie Baby. This book is also great if you are just starting to collect Beanie Babies.
