3 comments about The Negro Leagues Autograph Guide.
- I got this book because I collect autographs, but I enjoyed reading the book for the short bio written about each player. It's easy to read all about the famous Negro Leaguers, but in this book you can learn a lot about some of the lesser known, but very good players. I think this book is great for both autograph and baseball history buffs.
- This book was a delight to read and will be a great reference in the future. The authors did a thorough, scholarly research effort and it shows in the quality of the information in the book. Though the focus is on autographs, I felt the background on the players and other history was worth the price of the book alone. A must for autograph collectors and of great value to anyone interested in the Negro Leagues of American baseball history. Congrats to the authors on an outstanding job!
- The book not only gives you a run down of the players career and their history but shares with the reader the variations in the signature that transpired from playing days to reunion times. Gives a scarcity report on the autograph besides the price range value. Superb reading!!

- This is a great reference manual. Covering items like toys, games, dolls, skis, ornaments, posters, ceramics and even snowboards, I think it would appeal to anyone with an interest in skiing or collecting. It is a must have for anyone that has or collects any old ski related items. It has a complete pricing guide and is just packed with many colorful photos. A+++!

4 comments about Sports Immortals: Stories of Inspiration and Achievement.
- "Sports Immortals" is a fantastic nonfiction novel writen by Jim Platt. Sports Immortals has the best collection of sports items ever.If you look in the book and see all the valuable items, they are all owned by one person, his name is Joel Platt. He started collecting them when he was in the hospital and Babe Ruth came to visit him. Some items were Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves, Oscar Robinson's basketball jersey, and Bade Bruth's baseball jersey. There are many different characters who were the best athletes in the world.
Sports Immortals is a collection of stories about some of the greatest sports times and athletes of all time and discribe the lives and challenging times they had to go through. For example, when Michael Jordan won his forth NBA title he cried because his father had been killed that summer. I also liked when it talked about the 1980 U.S. hockey team and how their whole team was made up of collage players, and then they won the gold metal in Lake Placid, NY. This is a great book because it shows all the things that athletes have to go through to achieve their goals and accomplishments.
I would recommend this book to people who want to learn about sports history. I loved this book because it showed how hard it is to be an athlete and what difficuties they have to conquer. This book was a fantastic book that I loved and I think you would too.
- Wow! What a great book. Inspiring stories from the greatest athletes in the world. The stories are well written and enjoyable to read. It is quite evident that the book is a result of many years of hard work, dedication and a labor of love. The layout is awesome and the pictures are even better. It is a great gift for all ages.
- Truly an exceptional gathering of sports legends and their respective histories, Sports Immortals takes us on a tour that even sports-phobic individuals will love. From baseball and football, to skating and NASCAR, the pages capture the essence of the cultural phenomenon that we take for granted today.
Unexpectedly, most interesting are the pages which highlight not the obvious modern-day heroes, but rather the legends of yester-year, such as Jack Johnson (1910 African-American prize fighter) or Don Budge (1930's tennis champion). Although some of the accompanying pictures are seemingly boring at first glance, they take on new life when you realize that these are actual items in Joel and Jim Platt's museum collection. And that, of course, is the point of the book--to make us realize that these individuals are real and not simply the intangible "stuff of legend." In particular, the photos and supplemental annotations at the end of the book illustrate not only the diversity and amazing progress of the sports world (check out the 1864 ice skates!), but also the incessant controversies that accompany it (must-see letter of Jack Johnson's confession of throwing the big fight). I now display the book proudly on my coffee table for all to view. What more can I say....the only thing better is to go to Boca Raton, FL to see it for real.
- I received a copy of this book from my friend. This book is full of great stories and photographs of the greatest athletes of all time. The book goes beyond the typical information you have seen in the past and opens the door to interesting stories about the author's father, who has collected an amazing amount of incredible memorabilia. The photographs of the items in Joel Platt's collection amazed me. His story and moments with these athletes is also very inspirational.
I recommend this book and hope to one day see Joel realize his dreams of opening his Sports Immortals museum so that I can enjoy the full extent of his collection.

4 comments about The Heddon Legacy: A Century of Classic Lures.
- I bought this book for my husband since he is a lure collector. He indicated that the information contained in the book was very helpful and he actually kept the book instead of giving it to one of his buddies which he has done in the past with other "collector" books that I got for him.
- If you need-to-know, Roberts & Pavey are the go-to-guys. They leave no stone un-turned in this comprehensive volume on the premier fishing lure maker of the early 20th century. A MUST read for collectors of Heddon bait.
- Much reasearch went into making this book. This book is loaded with Pictures of Lures, Boxes, Reels, Advertisings, Prototypes, Color Codes & Numbers. Prices are included for most of the lures which can be used as a general price guide. Very Detailed Historical information that should clarify most if not all of your unanswered questions on the timelines and rarity of specific lures to include interesting articles and interviews from family and friends on the conception and start of the company.
- Bill Roberts and Rob Pavey's Heddon Legacy gathers a century of classic wooden Heddon fishing lures, but it's much more than an identification guide. This covers the Heddon lure legacy from its accidental birth to its marketing, advertising, and changes. Color photos of the lures accompany details on fishing which avid fishermen as well as collectors will find inviting.

5 comments about Beckett Almanac of Baseball Cards and Collectibles.
- this book has it all. It has very concise lists of baseball cards. My husband uses it every day when cataloging his cards. It was worth the price.
- the 2005 edition of Beckett Almanac Of Baseball Cards And Collectibles, which even includes Canadian cards from 1912 to modern times - and coins, pins, stickers, team yearbooks and more. There are thousands of photos which lend to easy identification even in black and white, there are card grading tips and guides for beginners, and each section is introduced with a specific set of notes or collector's tips. Conclude with a glossary of hobby terms and series indexes and you have a top pick which represents a virtual 'bible' - and a must for any serious baseball card collector.
- An absolute must for the advanced collector.
This comprehensive volume combined with Krause's Annual Standard Catalog Of Baseball Cards, are the two most important tools for anyone serious about baseball card collecting. My only gripe is Beckett simultaneously publishing their inferior 'Baseball Annual' at the same time. It's clearly inferior to their Almanac and borders on customer abuse offering a "lite" version for the ignorant just to make more money. Still, that problem issue aside, the Almanac is a must-have if you're going take your collection to the next level.
- If you collect baseball cards you absolutely must have this book. It catalogs virtually every baseball card ever made, including variations and errors.
Why only four stars and not five? Subtle reasons, mostly. The main reason is that this book, despite being released recently, does not do a very good job of covering the professionally graded baseball card market. This is even more surprising as Beckett does have a grading service of their own. As such, the sections covering the history of baseball cards and how to grade cards is lacking and is pretty much a reprint of what's been appearing in Beckett books like this one for over fifteen years. They really could have done a better job of modernizing those sections. However, as a reference book to help identity cards and give approximate values, this book cannot be beat. Buy it now!
- This almanac continues to expand -- and become better. Each year, it has added more sets, more details and more areas of collectibles. It is about to ``outgrow'' its covers. But that will be a long-range bonus for collectors. Beckett and able company will be forced to split the book, probably taking out minor league cards. The editors have become particularly adept at adding team-issued sets. A complete checklist of McCarthy baseball cards -- rumored for No. 6 -- would be a great addition. The only improvement I would like to see would be for more details on some sets and certain variations in a set (how to tell them apart). If you are a serious collector of baseball items, this is one of the few MUST books for your book shelf. And it's getting better and better with each edition.

- If you have anything related to sports (besides baseball cards), this book is excellent. I used it for some old sports magazines from the 1950's on eBay. It was a great for getting ideas on how much things are worth.
