- Author spread his interests too far with Baseball & other sports . Then couldnt come up with enough material to complete each catagory in this book..
Mainly all easy information that can be picked up from any boxing memorabilia dealers website I found this book o be of very limited resource. The book is called "COMPLETE" guide, but I found it to be "Incomplete" Book published in 1995, but alot of catagories are only listed upto 1992. All catagories : ie Program, tickets, posters etc only contain a selection of items. Eg. 1985 "2 tickets listed" thats all! Many missinformed or incorrect information, Eg programs that dont exist, unless was talking about Botsheets, but was unclear!
- For any real boxing memorabilia collector, Mark Allen Baker's "The Complete Guide to Boxing Collectibles" is the Holy Grail of price guides.
Pulled from distribution due to some legal problems with the material therein, this book is the be-all, end-all to help boxing collectors of all levels and financial means to identify, quantify and appreciate a bevy of boxing-related items, including posters, tickets, card sets, ring-worn equipment, autographed material and much more. ...

5 comments about Beckett Official Price Guide to Baseball Cards 2002, 21st Edition (Official Price Guide to Baseball Cards).
- A really nice guide plenty of little letters... you'll need a magnifying glass to read it !
- Not a practical guide in this collecting age. Does NOT have a comprehensive list; meaning it does NOT cover all manufacturers and, more importantly, for the ones it does, only provides listings of the base set. That means no insert or variation pricing whatsoever. Also, no oddball or minor league issues are listed. Generally speaking, unless you are collecting base sets prior to the advent of inserts and alternate versions of the base set, this guide is fairly useless.
- The beckett book was a great sorce to me because I have been collecting baseball cards sence I was 3 yr old and because I have over 7,000 cards so I think this book will be a good sorce for you to.
- To begin with, no other baseball card price guide even comes close to the number of sales as Beckett. Literally, the world over, Beckett is used by more people than in other guide on the market. This fine publication also has monthly guides covering baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. Beckett does extensive research on the hobby and sends analysts all over the world to keep track on what's happening in the baseball card market. Dr. James Beckett is an expert in the field of baseball card collecting and in this book gives readers valuable tips on how to preserve, store, and grade cards as well as lists in detail some of the most popular and sought after cards ever produced. With all the cards on the market, it is almost impossible to list them all in one book, so Beckett lists the ones that show the most interest to the general public. Now if you are into collecting rarities, you'll really want this price guide since Beckett lists some of the most rarest cards ever made. Many sets and singles alike are listed along with values on most all of them. Believe it or not, but, there are some cards on the market today that are so rare, a clear value cannot be placed on them, they are literally priceless. These include the very popular ONE OF ONES. These are cards where only one of each card in a set is produced.
If you are looking for a guide that has the most up-to-date information, the most listings and the most reliability, you can't beat Beckett. Please note this: If you go to Beckett or any other guide and cannot find a value for your card or cards, dont think for a moment that what you have is worthless. Like I stated earlier, with so many cards on the market today it is almost impossible to list them all, plus, some cards are produced that are so rare that NO ONE in the hobby may know about them until years later. For example, in 1990 Topps produced its regular baseball set including a Frank Thomas rookie. What no one knew was that there was also a very rare error card of Mr. Thomas produced. For years it was not even given a value, then finally the error card was listed with only a small value. Time passed and the card held that estimated value until it began a month by month rapid surge upward. As of August 2001, that same card is worth well over 500.00 I recommend this book to anyone who wants to find out what certain cards are worth or who would like to learn about some of the history of the baseball card market.

3 comments about Official Price Guide to Basketball Cards 1999, 8th Edition (8th ed).
- Beckett Publications has issued the most recent version of their ever-popular basketball card price guide. Although it is not as comprehensive as Krause's Standard Catalog of Basketball Cards, it is nonetheless a superior reference work. This inexpensive paperback provides the collector with a handy price guide for the major mainstream sets, in a convenient mass market format. It is often found for sale not only in regular bookstores, but on racks at newsstands and retail outlets. The pictures inside are small but give the collector a good idea of what the cards look like, both front and back. Veteran collectors might consider the prices a bit high, but such is the case with most card guides. It is not very difficult to find a street level or card show dealer who hawks their wares at "20 to 50% off Beckett." A couple of things you won't find, however, in this otherwise helpful shorthand guide are a detailed history of the hobby or listings for the many attractive minor issue sets sought by advanced collectors. For that, you will have to seek out other books by experts in the basketball card hobby. --Mike Bonner, author of COLLECTING BASKETBALL CARDS, A Complete Guide With Prices.

1 comments about 1998 Standard Catalog of Football Cards (Serial).
- Although this catalogue is thorough, it appears to be an out of date re-hashed version of the Beckett Football Card Price Guide. I have both books and expected this edition to list additional card sets that Beckett missed. I was disappointed to see that not only did it not have even one new set, the prices seemed very out dated and even copied from an old Beckett guide.
