1 comments about Boas and Other Non-Venomous Snakes.
- I purchased this book in 1984 at a local pet store. This book provided insight and instruction for the care and maintenance of dozens of local and exotic snakes for me as a youth. Now, as I still read this book from time to time, I realize that it contains BETTER and often MORE ACCURATE information than any modern book I have read on snake husbandry to date. I highly recommend this title to both the beginner, as well as the advanced hobbyist.

1 comments about All About Lizards.
- Profusely enhanced with a wealth of black-and-white and color photographs, reptile expert Robert Sprackland's All About Lizards is a straightforward, "reader friendly" guide to a variety of lizard species. From lizard habits, adaptations, and behavior in general to specific information on numerous lizard species from geckoes to iguanas and gila monsters, All About Lizards is a fascinating and highly recommended introduction that is strongly recommended for personal, school, and community library "Pets and Wildlife" reference collections.

1 comments about Piranhas: Fact and Fiction.
- Like all books, this book also contains its pros and cons. Lets start with the pros.
This book gives first-time piranha keepers a general idea on what piranha keeping is like. Its topics range from introducing what a piranha is and highlighting the untruths of the this fish to the code of conduct of keeping this fish. The description on the species are accompanied by vivid photographs. There is also a section on advising readers on tank setup procedure. Other topics include the breeding, handling and feeding of the piranhas. I find topics such as the suitability of tank mates for piranhas and how to choose a piranha extremely useful. However, although this book covers a wide range of topics, it is not written in detail. It does not even state what is the suitable tank environment for this fish. The classification is also outdated. For eg. Serrasalmus Nattereri has been reclassified to Pygocentrus Nattereri in the eighties, but it is still being referred to as Serrasalmus Nattereri in this book; and Serrasalmus Niger is still being reflected as "the black piranha", which in actual fact should be Serrasalmus Rhombeus. In summary, I would say this is a great book with lots of colourful photographs for beginners, but not for people who have been keeping this fish for sometime.

2 comments about Pythons of the World: Australia (Herpetocultural Library).
- This book covers all python species found in Australia. It provides in depth information, both as it relates to captivity and natural history and behaviour. There's also some magnificent photographs.
This book has the most complete info published for many of Oz's pythons species; it covers the obscure ones better than any other (trust me, try to find any other info on rough scaled pythons!). It gives the best information in any one source for many of the common ones. Furthermore, this book actually caters to people that are neither hard core, PhD holding scientist, nor novices. It's great; a book for those of us that aren't either extreme. We're a neglected market. If you're interested in pythons in general, this book is worth having, if you can get ahold of it; it provides insights into python physiology and ecology that will serve you in good stead. And if you're interested in any of the Oz pythons, it's a must have! Great info, and lots of it, good photography, and solid, new information; this is one of the better herp books out there, and I really hope they can finish up the series.
- This Book documents, describes and differentiates between the various species of python found on the continent of Australia. Anyone familiar with the work of David and Tracey Barker also knows that this book was inevitable for them to write. Very few other people have the knowledge and experience necessary to even attempt the task of dividing and classifying such a variable group of creatures. This daunting taxonomic task is accomplished with an approach of pure scientific sensibility. The book contains many beautiful photographs, some of which are of pythons rarely seen in the wild or in captivity. Each python is described in meticulous detail with notes on the captive care and breeding. The only possible improvement that could have been made would have been the inclusion of standard as well as metric measurements. This book easily stands out as one of the finest herpetelogical works ever written and is truly deserving of the 5 star rating. Oh, and by the way, spend the few extra bucks for the hardcover, you'll be glad you did!

1 comments about Turtles (Junior Pet Care/J-009).
- The book "Turtles-Junior Pet Care" by Zuza Vrbova contained very helpful information for someone who is interested in getting a turtle or if they just want to learn more about turtles. I liked the book because it had all of the information needed about owning a turtle. I also liked the way the chapters were organized. Each chapter would lead into what the next chapter was about. Another thing I liked was the Table of Contents. It helped me find the major information that I needed, for example, "Feeding your land turtle" and "Chosing a water turtle." I thought the chapter that gave the most usefull information was "Feeding your land turtle" because it said what turtles liked and disliked. It also said what they were alergic to and what gives them a tummy ache. I would would recommend this book to anyone who wants to own a turtle.
