  1. I like it... i bought it used for a very good price, so no wasted $$$ here. It does get a little technical, but just pay attention and you'll be fine.

  2. This book is almost 20 years old and it shows. It lacks many common species, and what information it does have is very very high level. I would recommend that the reader find ANOTHER book. I wish I had spent my money elsewhere.

  3. This is a wonderful and informative book that you will want to have in your collection if you are thinking about becoming a "reefer" or are already one. You will find the answers to the many questions you will have in this fantastic book.

  1. If you have even the most basic herp knowledge, this book will disappoint you. This book does not do justice to the rough green snake and reads like a report submitted by a second grader. Don't waste your money!

1 comments about The Guide to Plants for the Reptile Terrarium (Guide To...(T.F.H. Publications)).

  1. The book isn't the best. Its short a mere 64 pages and a good number of the pages are covered with pictures. The lighting section was useful but you could of gotten the rest of the information from a houseplant book.

5 comments about Reptile Medicine and Surgery.

  1. This is the BEST reptile book i ever had the pleasure of owning! Brilliant pictures, easy to read text and very complete tables!
If you are a veterinary surgeon starting your experience on reptiles dont think twice... It was my case and i just loved it... this one lays next to Guilhermo Couto Small Animal Medicine and Theresa Fossum on my top 3 Veterinary Surgeons Bibles!

  2. Hi!
I just want to make you now that I'm satisfied because the service. I might buy more products later.

    Your friend Marlene.

  3. Simply put, I am still in awe over the amount of information in this book. This is a MUST have for any reptile Vet, and anyone who is serious about keeping or breeding reptiles. Do not let the cost put you off. The info inside is worth much, much, more than they ask.

  4. Very comprehensive, much better than 1st edition. Recommend to anyone seeing reptiles in practice.

  5. It is over a hundred dollars but put it off this is the book. You won't need any others.

5 comments about Caring For Green Iguanas: Breeding, Feeding & Selection.

  1. The only thing about this book that I liked was the pictures. Besides that it was a waste of money. Thankfully I bought it used and only paid a few dollars. Save your money and buy something more useful.

  2. I wanted to give this book zero stars but it wouldn't let me! Here are some very bad items I found in this book. It is without a doubt the worst book I've ever seen on iguana care. The epidemic of bad information on iguana care is killing iguanas every day. Foods recommended that are not good for iguanas: lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, pineapples, boiled potatoes, broccoli, and "so on" as the author vaguely says. Plant:animal protein ratio of 4:1 when any smart iguana owner knows that it should always be 1:0! Pea sized gravel for substrate? No particulate substrates should ever be used. He recommends insects and tells how to catch them...when all animal (and insect) protein is deadly. The photos in this book show how bad it really is. I could quote several very bad things the author says about iguanas, but I'd rather just give a quote of my own, "Buy Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual by James Hatfield if you care about the health of your iguana!" If you see this book in a pet store, hide it before it kills another iguana.

  3. I bought this book before I really knew about caring for iguanas. If I had known better, I would have saved my money. The nutritional information in not up-to-date, the substrate suggestions are ludicrous, and the book seems more dedicated to being one big ad for useless commercial reptile products than to helping iguana owner keep their pets happy and healthy. If you are serious about owning an iguana, buy Jame's hatfield's Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual or do some research on line.

  4. I got this book before I got my first green iguana. I found it informative, useful and full of excellent pictures. As far as I knew, it was a great book. When I built by iguana habitat, I used much of the information the book gave. For a substrate, it suggested using gravel, particularly pea stones. I followed the advice and the habitat looked beautiful. Over the months my one iguana started going downhill. She started having little problems which I was able to treat. She had blood tests and numerous veterinarian visits (the bills added up). She then started bloating terribly after each feeding. I finally got an x-ray and it showed that she had ingested numerous rocks off the floor of her cage. She now needs surgery and I only hope that she makes it. I've now read in other books that gravel is one of the worst substrates you can use. Although the book was useful in a lot of ways, I worry about how many people are using gravel as a substrate because of the advice received from this book.END

  5. THIS IS A WELL WRITTEN BOOK THAT CLEARLY EXPLAINS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IGUANAS. THERE ARE SO MANY BOOKS OUT THERE WITH MISINFORMATION ABOUT IGUANAS THAT IT CAN GET REAL CONFUSING. I HAVE FOUND THIS ONE TO HAVE THE MOST ACCURATE INFORMATION FOR SUCCESSFULLY RAISING AN EXOTIC CREATURE SUCH AS THE IGUANA. IT COVERS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INCLUDING DIET, HOUSING, BREEDING, DISEASES, AND INSIDER TIPS ON RAISING THIS UNUSUAL PET. THE PICTURES IN THE PUBLICATION ARE VERY EXCITING IN THAT IT DEPICTS GIANT IGUANAS AND SHOWS THIS PET IN ITS EXOTIC SLENDOR. MUCH MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE! THIS IS A MUST READ, MUST ABIDE BY, AND MUST KEEP BOOK

1 comments about Arachnomania: The General Care and Maintenance of Tarantulas and Scorpions (General Care and Maintenance of... Series).

  1. This is probably the best book I have come across on tarantulas and scorpions. It is easy to read and understand, with lots of information that is useful for both beginners and experienced hands alike. Philippe De Vosjoli has a knack for making his book interesting with his style of writing. This book is definitely worth its price!

3 comments about Tarantulas.

  1. .....Yes this book is old, it was written in the 1970's. It was the first Tarantula book I purchased when I got into the hobby. All the pet stores sold it. It gives you all the necessary info you will need to successfully keep a pet Tarantula healthy and happy. I often wonder if Mr. Browning still keeps Tarantulas?

  2. I am pretty new to the hobby of tarantulas and I am the type of person that actually enjoys research. I bought this book to add to my library and boy am I sorry I did. This book is soooo old. I know that it says that it's published in 1989 but the pictures are straight from the late 70's (light blue polyester suits,...imagine the movie "Boogie Nights"). The information is nothing that could not be found on the internet with a google search and if you have been in the hobby of tarantulas you will realize that information is hard to come by and tends to vary and change through the years. I'd have to say pass on this one and buy "The Tarantula Keepers Guide" or my favorite "Tarantulas and other Arachnids."

  3. John Browning's Book, Tarantulas, Is the best, most comprehensive, book on tarantulas I own. It explains how raise and breed your tarantulas, whats kinds food and housing to give them, and how to enter them in local 4-H contests! If have you the slightest intrest in tarantulas, buy this book. Tell Em' Tarantula Boy sent you.
