1. This book is excellent for beginning snake hobbyists. It covers corn snake care, breeding and housing. The book also included some excellent pictures of the different kinds of corn snakes. Along with providing helpful hints to keeping your snake healthy, the book provides information on the correct way to obtain your first snake! In my opinion, the best part about this book was the detailed way the authors take the reader step-by-step on constructing an incubator for snake hatching. Everything in the book is well organized to provide easy reference. At the end, a helpful glossary also allows easy reference. I would recommend this book to a snake hobbyist that is interested in keeping and breeding snakes to learn the correct ways to maintain a snake's health and overall happiness.

1. I read this book two years ago and it was the most important literature that helped me to get started. This is an ideal book for the beginner



2. I've read several Discus books, some really good ones from Bernd Degen, and I really didn't like this one. It doesn't focus on anything at all and it has no hints about keeping them (despite the sub-title in the front page) beside temperature. Some average pictures after all, from the TFH archive.

1. In it's 64 pages it gives no extra information if you have an experience of a few months on keeping fish.

1. This book is one of three written by Reptiles Magazine editor Russ Case. All three are extremely easy to read, full of useful information and a great introduction to the care & keeping of reptiles.
   
   My teenage son has read all three and the only problem now is choosing what pet to start with! I can highly recommend all three.



2. Don't let the fact that this book is designed for kids fool you. If you just want to get some beginning knowledge about these creatures, you'll get it quickly by reading this. It's also just fun to read with lots great photos. It's part of a trio of books by this author that I bought for my friend's 9-year-old. The others are about lizards and snakes. 3. This book is ideal for beginners and is both fun and easy to understand. Kids can learn fun facts about these great animals and also find out how to best care for them so their pet has a long, healthy life. Definitely a must-have for new turtle and tortoise keepers!

5. I bought this book for my 10 year old grandson who had just acquired a pet turtle while on a family camping trip. After reading the book we realized the turtle should be returned to his natural habitat and we did just that. Now my grandson is using the book for research on how to properly obtain and care for one of these creatures. The author's authority on his subject and his reader-friendly style made this a valuable and enjoyable experience for a young pet lover.

2. Actually I haven't read the book, but I have three questions if you don't mind. I put 24 crickets in an equarium with only one Gecko is that okay? And I can't tell if he's been eating or not, how do I determin that? How often do geckos' eat?

1. This book is the one of the newest versions of Wilke's work which has splendid photographs, but sadly the illustrations are not as powerful or as plentiful as his previous book. This would have been the Perfect starter book had the illustrations been of the caliber of his last book. I was surprised that the Sulcata tortoise was not really mentioned in this book but none the less, Turtle Times, the largest turtle related web site, (...) recommends this as the must have starter book.

1. Ludwig Trutnau's "Venomous Snakes: Snakes in the Terrarium" has been considered the classical work on venomous snake husbandry in German-speaking countries for years, and is now finally available in English. Translated by Donald Stremme, the original format and plates were all maintained in the English version, with the exception of some of the legality aspects. In fact, several taxonomic updates were undertaken in the English version that had since become outdated in the German version.
   
   The book is written specifically for herpetoculturists, and therefore focuses on captive husbandry techniques and propagation data for each of the species. The species accounts also include relevant information on the behavior and demeanor of the given taxa. In these aspects, the book offers more valuable information than probably any other work of herpetological literature available.
   
   The book does not offer any taxonomic keys and contains generally little taxonomic information. Basic descriptions are provided in the beginning of each species account, including appearance and distribution, but is kept rather basic in accordance with its goal and intented target audience. There is hardly any information on the biology of the discussed taxa.
   
   Bottom line: This book is an absolute must for herpetoculturists, zoo keepers and herpetologists who maintain live specimens in their labs, as it contains more useful husbandry and captive propagation info than any other available book. On the other hand, herpetology students and anyone with a more academic interest in the subject is not likely to benefit very much from this book.
