3 comments about Tree Frogs (Complete Herp Care).

  1. This book was quite thourough. I bought it to learn some more about tree frogs before I purchased one. I think that it is quite informative and not intimidating.

  2. This is a good book, gives you a lot of information. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't give you specifics like I would have wanted. An example is that it doesn't tell you exact humidities that are needed, just a range of how much the humidity can go up or down. I also wish the terrarium set up pictures could have been bigger. Also more on illnesses would have been helpful. But I am glad I got this particular book. I looked at a lot and this seemed to be the best one.

  3. This book was very informative in describing the needs of tree frogs. The section on feeding was a particular point of interest for me as I am a novice at keeping frogs. Overall it was a good read.

4 comments about General Care and Maintenance of Popular Tortoises (The Herpetocultural Library Series).

  1. This had the potential to be a wonderful book, but it is lacking in the information that you would expect to get in the books of this series. The diseases and disorders section is esentially non-existant and the specific care of the different species is far too generalized and totally lacks detail. It is a very good book for beginners or those looking for overviews of the major species and their care, but that is about it. Still waiting for the Tortoise Manual - which is long overdue.

  2. This book is an excellent source of information for good turtle- tortoise husbandry. Robert DominguezV.P. Chino Valley Branch, Caliifornia Turtle and Tortoise Club (CTTC)CVBCTTC@WEBTV.NET

  3. I have used this book extensively to help me care for several species of tortoises, Leopards, Sulcatas, Redfoot and Yellowfoots. The content is highly accurate and every tortoise keeper should use this book as his "bible" of care specs.

  4. The author's wide knowledge of herpetology and many guides have saved countless thousands of reptile and amphibian lives. This book adds to that humane record.

5 comments about Boas & Pythons: Breeding and Care.

  1. Must have book for boa and python keepers loads of info and great pictures.

  2. The only reason that I give this book a single star is for the pictures. Honestly, I couldn't belive what a complete waist of money this book was. The information that passed on as "the most up to date" was just laughable. Now make sure that your snake is eating a well balanced meal and that you supplement it properly. Hello....a mouse is a complete meal. That was the most blaringly obvious stupid comment. And yet there's like two or three pages devoted to that drivel.

The authors don't have much experince to begin with and this book very obviously shows that. I don't understand how they possibly got a book deal in the first place! They talked about various health problems that they had with some of their snakes. Health problems that most if not all knowledgeable reptile keepers just don't come across. All the health problems they talked about were basically a result of the keeper (aka the authors) not knowing what they were doing and not having done enough research into the care and maintenance of their animal.

Anwhow, I STRONGLY recommend that you stay as far away from this book as possible!!!

  3. THIS BOOK IS VERY GOOD FOR THE NEW SNAKE OWNER AND THE UNSURE. IT HAS USEFUL INFORMATION ON MANY DIFFRENT TYPES OF BOAS AND PYTHONS. THE BOOK DOES NOT USE "LARGE WORDS" THAT COULD CONFUSE READERS AND THOSE IT DOES THEY EXPLAIN THEM IN THE BACK. I WORK IN A PETSHOP AND THE BOOK IS REALLY CLOSE TO THE REAL THING. IT'S A GOOD BOOK FOR GETTING STARTED. IT ALSO HAS GREAT PICTURES.

  4. It has excellent photos and it covers most of the boas and pythons you may purchase but, if you already have the snakes and you are looking for information about breeding them this book doesn't help much. It has enough information to help you make up your mind if you still haven't decided on what species to buy for breeding.

  5. This book has some great photographs, but does not say enough about breeding. Maybe breeding is very simple. If so, the authors should say so. When I finished the book, I did not feel that I had learned much about breeding. It was kind of like leaving a restaurant without feeling full.

2 comments about Chameleon Handbook, The (Barron's Pet Handbooks).

  1. This book was very poorly updated from Francois Le Berre's original book "The New Chameleon Handbook." He has information in it that is totally wrong like where he says that there is currently a quota of 60 C. parsonii to be exported annually and that 475 C. parsonii were exported in 1997, when all exportation of C. parsonii from Madagascar was stoped in 1994 and no new quota has yet been set. He also is still claiming to breed chameleons in Madagascar at a ranch or breeding facility that is owned by a Frech scientist who says he just comes here to buy chameleons from him. He also has switched to the Klaver and Bohme classification system which puts fischeri and some other species in the genus Bradypodion but he still says all Bradypodion species are ovoviviparous as well as other things and if he is using the Klaver and Bohme system, this is not true as fischeri are oviparous. This book also still lists breeders that have been out of breeding and selling for the longest time. The book still has many errors in the index and he also has pictures in this book that are misidentified. This book is almost identical to his old book with the exception that it has fewer pictures, a new cover, and some updated information that much of is still very false. The book does not appear that it was edited for any mistakes. In short, this book was very poorly updated and you can get the same information (with still less false information and more pictures) in his original book.

  2. I really enjoyed this book it gave me good facts on the chameleon. Get the book it's worth the $$$

2 comments about The Keeping & Breeding of Corn Snakes (Reptile Care).

  1. I keep and breed corns snakes, and this book helped me out a lot. McEachern has had a LOT of experience with these snakes, and I don't know if I could have gotten far without this book. By far the BEST corn snake manual around!!!

  2. A good book with good information. Learned alot about keeping and breeding corns. Would be better if book was in color to show different color patterns and variations.
