2 comments about Unusual World Coins: Companion Volume to Standard Catalog of World Coins Series (Unusual World Coins: Companion Volume to Standard Catalog of World).
- An excellent reference for unusual coins. The book would be better if a brief history of each coin was also included.
- This is a coin catalogue worth buying even if you don't have a single coin it lists. The Unusual coins are really unusual in the way they depict human vain hopes, unattainable dreams, and impossible ambitions. You can see here coins from imaginary or lost empires (Russian monarchists struck their coins in 1990), states that have not been recognized by a single sovereign nation (Hutt River Province) or worlds which existed only in the imagination of writers (the Middle Earth) or private mints (Russian euro coins...). All this is a great tribute to human imagination and entepreneurial spirit, neatly presented in the form of a handy volume.
Naturally, you may actually collect these coins. In this case you will find the typical Krause quality - lots of pictures are missing, some coins are not listed completely (just my luck - I have only 1 euro coin of the 2002 Vaticane euro trial issue and this coin is missing - there is #6 - 50 cents and #8 - 2 euro but no #7 - 1 euro ;) but as it is in the case of all Krause catalogues: you just won't find anything better!

1 comments about Warman's Antique Jewelry Field Guide: Values and Identification (Warman's Field Guides).
- This book is not for the novice collector. It does provide very detailed descriptions of antique jewelry. The photogrpahs are clear and vibrant, but not all pieces had a matching photograph. It is a very handy size that you can take along and refer to during shopping. I recommend this to those who are familiar with antique jewelry and would like a quick refernce guide to take shopping.

5 comments about Hot Kitchen & Home Collectibles of the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
- We want to find more goodies from this era for our vintage kitchen, and this book is helping us develop a sharper eye. There's space left on the Hoosier cabinet to display a few more vintage kitchen wares...
- I've rated this book good, but I've got mixed feelings about it. On one hand it's wonderful! Lots of good info and interesting items featured. It really is a fun read with lots of cool items photographed. But my main concern is the execution of the book. The lighting on many of the photos is very poor for example. They look like they were taken with nothing but regular room lighting, not special lighting I would assume a professional photog would use. So, I'm sort of split down the middle. But I would definately say I'm glad I bought it, even with the split decision!
- Love, love , love this book. It was exactly what I wanted and so much cheaper than the book store. It arrived very quickly and was in excellent condition.
- A+++ A must for any collector! Beautifully written, photographed, and illustrated. I can't wait for Ms. Zweig's next book!
- This is a wonderful book written and illustrated fabulously - dealing in Vintage Kitchenware and Home Collectilbes with our own online web shop, it was a joy to read and savor every page - made us love the eras talked about even more!!

2 comments about Indian Artifacts of the Midwest: Identification & Value Guide (Indian Artifacts of the Midwest).
- The descriptions and price estimates were helpful. The complete lack of color photos, except for the cover, was an extreme disapointment. The photos ranged from average to poor quality and were of limited value in indentifying artifacts. I feel the book description should have clearly noted the lack of color photos.
- One week ago I went to do some house hunting and found something I wasn't looking for. While going through the house I came upon a large collection of Indian Artifacts. I knew almost nothing about them but susspected they were highly valuable. The next day an estate auction was held and I purchased the collection. Upon searching the internet for some information it became obvious what the best source was for identification of my midwest collection, Lar Hothem's book "Indian Artifacts of the Midwest." I purchased the book and was able to quickly identify many of the pieces that I knew nothing about. The book was written so a "layman" like myself could easily understand and identify many of the the basic artifacts. The quality photographs added to the pleasure of my learning. I was very pleased to realize the age, almost 10,000 years, and value of my collection. Thanks to such a thorough and readable source I now find myself hooked on the collecting and identifying of very interesting artfacts left in my area so long ago.

5 comments about Figures in Fabric.
- Beautiful! It's hard to believe these are all fabric, truly. Very inspirational! I doubt I'd ever be able to make one of my own but it's wonderful to have on my coffee table and druel over from time to time. Wonderful book!
- How does she do it??? It is hard to believe the dolls won't get up from the page and talk to you. They are alive. Kudos to Lisa. This book does not disappoint.
- Figures in Fabric is inspirational! The creations of Lisa Litchtenfels are truely exceptional works of art which are beautifully presented in this book, a definite "onshow" publication that will never go on a bookishelf or in a closet. A book to drool over again and again for inspiration and creativity, though I doubt anyone can measure up to her realism and vision. A must for any dollmaker to have in their library.
- I bought this book to learn how these amazing figures were constructed but was even more surprised when my husband "borrowed" it from me as inspiration for figures and the human form for his drawings. I haven't seen the book since!
- What an amazing author therefore an amazing book. The talent of this woman and the passion she has is very inspiring and to think they are done in fabric. I am in total amazement.

5 comments about Collecting Head Vases: Identification and Value Guide.
- Excellent book well done. Wonderful display of head vases. He has divided his ladies into catagories. He includes cleaning tips, repair tips, head vase websites and best of all and added plus he has a numerical index in the back of his book very very helpfull to finding that special lady fast when you are checking out prices on Ebay. If I could only purchase one collection book I would purchase Dave Barrons book.
- I was a little unhappy with the book. I had inherited 2 original ladyhead
vases from a deceased Aunt. I couldn't find either one in the book. I
wanted more info on the collecting of the vases and the book was lacking
there too. I should have gotten another one that went into more detail.
- The book is in great condition and exactly what I exected and useful to me. However the process after the purchase from Amazon takes far to long. A month for a book is rediculous.
- For the amateur to the experienced, this is a fabulous reference guide for all headvase collectors! Definite must-have !
- Quick and excellent transaction. Nice book and well packaged.
Thanks

4 comments about Authenticating Ancient Indian Artifacts: How to Recognize Reproduction and Altered Artifacts.
- It's a pretty good guess that everything between these covers was learned from Bill Jackson. To assert (as another reviewer has) that the author will "....don the mantle of Greg Perino" is similar to alleging that Barry Manilow will don Beethoven's mantle.
- This is another great book by James Bennett, and covers many interesting facets of lithics and archaeology as well as authentication. Many people will shy away from this book thinking it only concerns authentication, which is not correct...it also has much good previously unpublished information on how lithics use patterns work, etc. I believe this book should be used as a supplement to James previously published softcover book which has MUCH more information on detecting fakes/fabrications in native american lithics. The softbound book previously published has many more photos, and covers much that this book does not. Therefore my suggestion is to get this book as a supplement to the first softbound book, do not think this book includes all from the other as it does not. However this book is well worth the money and is well done, highly recommened book, but the man who appears to have donned the mantle of the respected but now deceased authenticator Greg Perino.
- As the title of this review states this should be a book any serious collector should have for reference. The picture examples are worth the cost of the book alone. The information included along with the examples is just what I was looking for in a book about collecting Native American artifacts.
The book is also very well written so that a person with very little knowledge could pick it up and understand what was being explained.
- Any collection strong in Native American history, studies or early artifacts will welcome AUTHENTICATING ANCIENT INDIAN ARTIFACTS: HOW TO RECOGNIZE REPRODUCTION AND ALTERED ARTIFACTS. Color photos of artifacts accompany clear directions on the entire authentication and identification process, making for a fine choice for college-level archaeology collections as well.
