3 comments about Contemporary Porcelain.

  1. This book gives a thorough and knowledgable insight into working with porcelain. The many fabulous photos are inspiring and the artists have been generous in sharing their methods and recipes. I have found this book to be an excellent addition to my resources and know I will keep referring to it throughout many years.

  2. A treasure trove of information, techniques and examples of the best in porcelain today. Excellent for the collector as well as those working in this demanding medium. The photos are breathtaking and Lane knows what he is talking about. This is the latest edition of what is clearly a labor of love.

  3. I feel that this book helped immensly with my work in porcelain, it helped me to understand its qualities and form better. The book is well written and very helpful, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

2 comments about Oyster Plates.

  1. Although the 2 plates I have are not featured in the book, there are pages and pages of color pictures and information that are really informative. There is also a chapter or two on oyster "trivia". For the price, this book should be a hardback, but otherwise the content is relavent and beautifully laid out. I highly recommend it to anyone who is even thinking about starting a collection. I never dreamed there were so many exotic oyster plates from so many different places!

  2. This book contains 150 pages of beautiful color photographs as well as an easy to use index section. It is an excellent source for identification of these very collectible plates, and even gives a rarity guide. Provides information on the manufacturers, as well. An invaluable guide to the oyster plate collector!!!!

1 comments about Clarice Cliff: The Art of Bizarre.

  1. Although this book is 6 years old it remains my favourite of all the Clarice Cliff books and there are now MANY available on her now. It tells Clarice's story thoroughly, with far more archive images than any other book, and great colour pictures of pieces from collectors from all over the world. The author interviewed nearly all the surviving paintresses who worked for her between 1927 and 1964 and this shows in the attention to detail about them, life in the 1930s and individual patterns they painted. There are many quotations from Clarice in the book and these give a "flavour" of her as a person. I'm prompted to write this review for newer collectors or Clarice fans who might be confused over the best book to start with, but in my opinion THIS is it, and at a very good price too. Barry
