1 comments about Encyclopedia of Blue Ridge Dinnerware.

  1. I have several books on Blue Ridge Dinnerware and this is the best. A great book to have to identify that unknown pattern, almost every pattern I search for is in there. Great color & page design. Highly recommend for purchase.

2 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Noritake.

  1. Joan VanPatten's book is not for the china pattern enthusiast. This book is for serious Noritake collectors who want to see the broad range of products this fantastic factory produced in its early years.

This book only focuses on the "pre-war" years when Noritake's products were first being imported into the US and other nations. Joan's book provides excellent backstamp references so you know what you are buying as well as to know what the reproductions look like so you don't get taken.

You will see the eye-popping best of the best you may only see available on ebay or at a Nippon show. However, once you know what to look for and are educated; you can pick up some incredible deals from antique dealers or garage sales because you know what you are looking for.

The down sides, some of the pictures in this book are replicated in her other books. The price sheet is in the back at the book...very irritating when you are going back and forth from picture to price sheet to learn values of items.

  2. Nice reference book, easy to follow with a price guide in the back. Unfortunatly, it has a limited number of patterns represented and no information on the types of pieces available for all but 4 or 5 patterns. I purchased this book hoping to learn more about the Rosemarie #6044 pattern I inherited from my father, but will have to try again with a different reference. I ended up keeping it for the information on patterns from the 1920's. It's helped me identify a Morimura Luncheon set from 1922 and other Noritake items I've purchased. The book also contains some limited information on old advertisements and some care suggestions for fine china.

1 comments about Porcelain And Pottery Shoes.

  1. This author has extensively researched a previously little-known subject. This book is so complete that I think auction houses will use it as a reference. The photographs are stunning and the line drawings extremely detailed. Prices are listed for each item, which is most helpful. What is invaluable is the effort the author has made to trace the manufacturers of as many shoes as possible. What a bonus for shoe collectors!

1 comments about The Bowles Collection of 18Th-Century English and French Porcelain.

  1. Simon Spero has done a fine job amassing a catalogue of the Henry & Constance Bowles collection. This book has astonished me with its vivid images and beautiful pieces. I've loved it from the moment I got it. It has served as a wonderful reference as well as an inspiration. I've started my own collection because of this INCREDIBLE beautiful book. I hope every porcelain lover or lover of beautiful things buys at least one copy.

2 comments about Staffordshire Pottery, 1858-1962: Majolica, Transfer Prints, Flow Blue, Fine Bone China From Cauldon (Schiffer Book for Collectors with Price Guide).

  1. This is the finest book available on Cauldon, bar none. The pricing guides are helpful, the background information facinating, and although the photographs are sometimes a little out of focus, each page features multiple images of representative wares.

  2. Quite simply the best reference work currently available on the output of Cauldon Ltd. and its predecessors and sucessors for over a century including helpful pricing guides. Because Cauldon's tableware patterns alone ran to several tens of thousands, this book could not be expected to address individually all of the company's products, but it does cover a broad enough sampling to make it the definitive work on its subject matter. Kudos to Robert Cluett for giving us this book.

4 comments about Lefton China: Price Guide.

  1. It lists good marks so you can date the pieces and is easy to understand. This is not a history book and doesn't do much for detail. I was able to find similar items and get a general price. My understand is that I will need to get the other books as each volums supposedly has more items. I will purchase the others, too.

The worst thing about this book is the binding. The cover came off and I had to hot glue it to keep it together.

  2. I found this price guide to be a bit skimpy. I was not able to find any of my Lefton pieces listed. I was very disappointed. They also could put the listings in better order.

  3. The book is not too bad for a paperback price guide. But it seems the idea is to get all of her books. I couldn't find more than one reference to my Lefton collection. I look forward to seeing a whole-extensive book on Lefton China. Maybe writing books on different categories, such as dinnerware, figurines, etc.

  4. I found this book to be a very useful resource for adding to my Lefton collection. The pictures are good and the preliminary information on the company along with its trademarks is helpful. I question some of the values that are given, but the author explains her pricing difficulties in the preface.

The recommendation I would give for the next edition of this booklet would be to organize the listings in a better way. The categories are alphabetized but the listings in the categories are not organized either by number or description. The listing for figurines, for example, is very long and having to run through all the listing to find one item takes awhile. I also hope that the next book will be more inclusive and include all the pieces from all the patterns and not just a few selected.

In the meantime, I applaud the author for her efforts in putting together a much needed resource on this area of collecting that is becoming extremely popular.
