5 comments about Playboy: Redheads (Playboy).

  1. This book, although small in size, is packed full of stunning beauties. It is fairly dated but the girls are all stunning and all but a few are natural redheads. An up to date version of this book would really put the icing on the cake, but whilst we wait for that, this book will certainly fuel a passion.

The dvd to go with this series is an absolute must for any 'redophiles'. Both are recommended highly.

  2. This book really isn't just another playboy, its more of an art book dedicated to red heads. If you've got a thing for red heads then I would say this book is a good choice. While not all of the girls are attractive some of the prettiest girls I have ever seen are in here. Its interesting to see the changes of women over the decades.

  3. This mini-volume is one of three vintage photo collections issued by Playboy to celebrate any man's favorite hair color. PLAYBOY: REDHEADS is an homage to that relatively rare though undeniably beautiful and mysterious mutant strain, the true redhead.

James Peterson, the Editor, must love redheads the most. He waxes absolutely rhapsodic about them in his introduction. Any man who appreciates the redhead will instantly understand.

The book consists only of photos dating from 1953 to 1974. While many alluring redheads have appeared in Playboy's pages since then, by limiting the collection to The First Twenty Years, Peterson has no shrift with "bottle jobs," ignores the artificially-enhanced breast, and disdains the racing stripe sorority and the Baby Bare Generation. Thank heavens! The women portrayed herein are real women, some of them wearing Mrs. Cleaver's hairdo perhaps, and some of them more voluptuous and less toned than current tastes allow, but, still in all, untouched by surgically-gloved hands.

Since this is a collection of vintage photographs, they range from 1950s stilted to 1970s freestyle, and it is interesting to see the magazine evolve, and our culture's perceptions of feminine beauty change.

My only criticism is that there just isn't enough of it.

PLAYBOY: REDHEADS is a great "stocking stuffer" book for any man with taste.

  4. Whether it's a smoldering auburn, a fire engine red or a sweet strawberry blonde, red hair has captivated red-blooded men for centuries. The rarest and most beguiling of hair colors finally gets its due in this collection of fabulous full color photographs from PLAYBOY from the fifties, sixties and seventies. This sleek volume presents a host of scantily clad beauties each in her favorite element: frolicking poolside, preparing the perfect cocktail, starting a pillow fight. Elegantly designed with the discerning man in mind, REDHEADS captures the eye like only a REDHEAD can.

  5. this review refers to the Brunettes edition of the 3-book Playboy series:Brunettes,Blondes and Redheads.
the girls in these pages range from the late 50's to the early 70's.
i am of the age that the girls from the mid-60's to early 70's are my favorite so this book was just for me and i should think other men who prefer girls from those days.
Playboy girls are always so pretty. sweet smiles. nothing dirty or raw about them.
the girls from this era had no use for implants which i don't even think were around then.
back then, the girls were all natural. and the brunettes in this book are all natural and beautiful......and of course sexy.
i highly recommend this book. and it's very reasonably priced too.

5 comments about Lehner's Encyclopedia of U.S. Marks on Pottery, Porcelain and Clay.

  1. The book arrived on time and the condition was as described (new). The secondary packaging could use improvement as the box had broken and opened at the bottom. The primary packaging was excellent and prevented the book from damage when the box broke.

  2. This book is a definite 'must have' for anyone dealing in or buying collectible ceramics. I have just started selling glasswares and have come across a lot of different pottery marks. Without a reference book, you cannot determine an items' real worth.
This book has thousands of different marks and artists' marks! This book is by my side when trying to determine the ceramic items' origin and age.

  3. This book is about U.S. marks.

.... So, if you need a piece of U.S.A pottery identified, then this book probably has the mark. (Please note that this book is not about finding markings of European pieces. As stated on the cover, this book is strictly about U.S. marks).

P.S.: This book also includes all the U.S. RESTAURANT-WARE markings. Very helpful if you collect "RESTAURANT-WARE", along with other American pottery and china.

  4. This book is prodigious in scope: the pottery marks (with huge varieties within each company) and historical information are both invaluable and interesting. However, the indexing is weak, which leads one to thumbing through pages trying to find an elusive mark. This is such a well-researched, vast collection of marks, however, that laborious searches are rewarded.

  5. This book is jam packed with pottery marks, a great value for the price. I had no idea that there were so many. It is extremely informative, giving a brief history, manufacture dates and much more information for each company listed. I would definately recommend this to anyone with an interest in collecting or selling pottery.

  1. Art from the Heart: Mixed-Media Collage

An amazing book of projects, pictures and supply lists. I love altered art and this book is one that I treasure among my favorites!

  2. I borrowed this book from a friend and am now ordering my own copy. I look forward to referencing it as I create my own art. Ms. Scanlon makes the greatest pieces. I enjoy watching her blog, reading her first book Sewing on Paper and now she has taken it to a new level with Art from the heart. I hope to see more sewing on projects in the future. Maybe an option for her next book?

  3. Fantastic book! This book is very inspiring and informative. The photography is excellent and the instructions easy to follow and understand. I can't wait to try out more of her ideas!

  4. While this book has gorgeous projects - it lacks real instructions on how to make these items.

  5. This is a wonderfully creative book with many ideas for artistic expression.I highly recommend this selection.

5 comments about 500 Teapots: Contemporary Explorations of a Timeless Design.

  1. This is one of my favorite 500 books. It is the perfect book for those days when inspiration is hard to find!

  2. I bought this book and looked through it with post its to label all the interesting teapot ideas I was drawn to. When considering this book, I wasn't particularly drawn to the cover teapot and wondered if I would be disappointed in the authors picks, but I wasn't. This is a great visual resource for my classroom and studio.

As someone else has commented, I would have given this book 5 stars if the author hadn't repeated multiple photos of very similar teapots by the same artist.

  3. As a ceramics teacher who teaches her students how to build teapots, this book is a wonderful resource. The pictures are great and it helps give students a better understanding of what a teapot can look like.

  4. But if I were a little teapot, I'd be one of the beautiful ones in this book. There are teapots both plain, and beyond description to fascinate, amuse and amaze you. If you know a little about firing ceramics, and glaze technology, the information provided will deepen your appreciation of each teapot. You may find that some of these artists are in your area, and have ceramics for sale. Or if you just like teapots, there enough teapots here in beautiful color photos to sate your appetite.

  5. 500 TEAPPOTS is an wonderful book and is sure to inspire both potters and tea drinkers alike. It is a wonderful companion to 500 BOWLS. I hope they publish ANOTHER 500 TEAPOTS (BOWLS, too).

5 comments about Found Art Mosaics.

  1. This book is loaded with color pictures. Unfortunately they're for projects that were way too kitschy and cutesy for my husband's taste; he found the Mixed Media Mosaics book a lot more useful. It's a nice quality book, though.

  2. Suzan's book is a wonderful source of information on techniques to incorporate found objects into the mosaic process. The book is clearly laid out with concise steps and instructions (including patterns) for a variety of projects. People of all ages will enjoy the suggestions that Suzan offers for creating inspired mosaics.

  3. I have many mosaic books but this one includes great tips, techniques plus very creative approach to using found objects to create some really beautiful, pulled together pieces.

  4. I liked the way data was presented in sequential steps with information on the various methods of adhesion. Great photos.

  5. This is a very eye catching book. It cries out for page turning from beginning to end. If anyone were to create mosaics without attending any classes this would be the way to go.

1 comments about Artist Trading Cards (Twenty to Make).

  1. I like the concept of explaining a particular technique, then showing how the same technique was used to make several different ATCs. Instructions are clear and artwork examples are beautiful and inspiring. Some materials may be difficult for some readers to purchase, however.

5 comments about Collecting Swarovski: Identification & Price Guide (Identification and Value Guides (Krause)).

  1. While I think this is such a beautifully done book with great photos, descriptions, prices and all, only a few pieces of the Swarovski jewelry are pictured or mentioned. Perhaps a companion book which would feature all the retired Swarovski jewelry pieces should be considered as it would certainly complete the whole Swarovski package.

  2. While this book is very informative, with pictures and reviews, it needs updating to keep prices current and more pictures to distinguish varations would be helpful. Still, it is well written and an enjoyable read.

  3. I was excited about receiving this book, as my aunt had given me her collection of Swarovski Crystal to sell on eBay for her. I thought it would at least identify all of the pieces in her collection and answer at least most of the questions posed by potential bidders. It did not. At least half of the pieces are not listed in the book, nor does the book answer what I feel are some pretty basic questions posed by bidders. Not a complete waste of money, but had I known in advance, I would have looked for a much more comprehensive book.

  4. I had previously owned some Swarovski that I had received as gifts and decided I wanted to start actively collect them. I was buying a lot of the older pieces on the second market and wanted to make sure I was getting a fair deal. This book was exactly what I was looking for. It had the details that I needed to make sure I was getting authentic pieces at a fair price. Great for any starter collector.

  5. This book which arrived in a timely manner and at a good price is very well put together incorporating a host of information for the Swarovski collector. The pictures and text are clear and well layed out.

2 comments about What We Want Is Free: Generosity And Exchange In Recent Art (S U N Y Series in Postmodern Culture).

  1. This book probably isn't an obvious choice for a relaxation read. My roommate was surprised to see I was reading it and wasn't enrolled in some class that required me to. I ran across this book randomly in a library and I'm really glad I did. I guarantee you these short essays will get you thinking, get you excited and get you inspired--

    especially if you are:
-a self-identified "artist" that wants to think about your role and responsibility as an artist, and the context within which you create
-or anyone who cares about our society and wants to know what they can do to affect change in peoples lives -- to embody "every form of creative protest" you can think of, (as MLK says)

The book sags in some parts, but when it hits home it is spectacular.

The essays weave together to draw connections between art, society, commodity, violence, community, the small potential of meaning in a consumable object or idea, the strength found in human connection, and the awesome power of the small gesture.

It touches on the importance of societal critique (within yourself), but does so through positive examples of individual action. That makes this book inspirational; it unleashes the power of every person's creative potential.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  2. I haven't read it all yet, but what I have so far is interesting. I bought it because my professor was published in this book.
