2 comments about Around Hazleton (PA) (Postcard History Series).
- The postcards reproduced in this book provide excellent historical background for the region: 5 stars.
- I am researching my family history all of whom were coal miners from the Hazleton area. It's great to be able to see pictures of the region where they lived. I'm glad I got this book. Richard Funk did an excellent job.

5 comments about Season's Greetings from the White House.
- People my age were taught citizenship in school and were taught to respect the President. I have always been fascinated with the personal lives of the Presidents and the folklore of the White House. This book does not disappoint if you like the "behind the scenes" information on the White House and its past residents. I also recommend the one written for children by the same author. This puts politics aside and restores some pride in the institution of our Presidency and their families.
- Season's Greetings from the White House is an excellent source of presidential Christmas/holiday items from the early part of the twentieth century to the present. Each President's holiday greetings along with staff gifts are shown. Mrs. Seeley has written an superb book which continues to grow with each new edition. The quality of photographs and the amount of them in the book make it worth the price. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in not only presidential items, but for anyone who has any interest in the holiday season.
-
Mary Evans Seeley is an expert on Christmas celebrations in the White House. Several years ago, she decided to share her knowledge and research dealing with personal First Family recollections and the result is the wonderful book "Season's Greetings from the White House."
It is a book for historians, Americana fans, Christmas collectors and art lovers. More than just behind-the-scenes stories, this richly illustrated volume shows, in full color throughout, the actual cards, prints and other Presidential gifts of sterling silver, pewter, glass, wood and leather. Most of the gifts were designed for distribution to White House staffers.
Seeley, who resides in Tampa, Florida, shares with the reader, the personal experiences of the wide variety of artists whose works came to grace Presidential cards and gift prints. To bring in historical color, the author interviewed a number of First Ladies and children of First Families.
The book's frontispiece displays the magnificent Neapolitan Baroque crèche in the White House East Room in 1963. The photograph was selected by President and Mrs. Kennedy for their Christmas card scheduled to be sent in December. Less than 30 were personally signed by both the President and First Lady prior to their fateful Dallas trip. These dual-signed Christmas cards are among the rarest of all Presidential Christmas memorabilia.
The photos of Seeley's historical collection of White House Christmas cards offers an interesting glimpse of our nation's culture and its values through the years.
It's no matter if you look upon the book as a major scholarly effort or simply a beautiful insight into the traditions of our First Families, "Season's Greetings from the White House" makes an excellent gift for the holidays and is a wonderful reference book for historians who are seeking the human side of Christmas in the Presidential Mansion.
- All White House Christmas books will be measured by this one in the future. It is incredible. A must for all collectors of White House Christmas memorabilia. Every home and office should have this book on display during Christmas time.
- Anyone who has ever been interested in Christmas and what it means to the residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue MUST get this book. A treasure that will be loved forever....a history that is important to America! Mary Evans Seeley has it all here! Thanks! Chis Allen

2 comments about The Great War Through Keystone Stereographs.
- Unlike the first reviewer, I bought this book for what it is, a resource for understanding Keystone World War One stereoviews. If you're looking for a picture book of WWI, I agree, this ain't it. The late Tex Treadwell compiled a list of over 1000 WWI stereoviews issued by Keystone View Company. No boxed set ever exceeded 400 views. The author of this book has managed to figure out which ones went with which boxed set, the year that they got included & when various views got deleted. In many instances the origin (source) of the view has been figured out. Personally, I am impressed with the author's efforts and like the book. If you collect World War One stereoviews this book is a must.
- This is a collector's guide to Keystone stereo views of World War I--namely lists and information on the views available. If you actively collect this genre, this is a great guide. But if you're looking for a book of photographs (stereo or mono) of the Great War--forget it, you'll be (like me) very disappointed.

3 comments about Beckett Unofficial Guide to Pokemon Price Guide.
- Kids seem to think it was worth it. Came with a price guide. Cheaper than buying it the store.
- I bought this book when it was first released a few months ago thinking it would be similar to the original Beckett Pokemon TCG guide (which you can still buy on Amazon). The original contained nice pictures of all of the cards, grouped into sets, in order. They even went so far as to include and translate all of the current Japanese cards (which were quite a lot at the time) in the same manner as the USA cards. Also were included pictures and lists of all the current Promo cards (US and Japan) and even Japanese oddities like the Japanese only Vending set.
That brings me to the new "updated" 2007 edition of the guide. The bulk of this book is nothing more than a list of every pokemon from Red/Blue, Silver/Gold, and Ruby/Sapphire with a random image of a card featuring them. The rest is the standard text only list price guides / check lists in the back. But even these are incomplete. Many sets don't include any cards other than the Rares, making the book useless for any kind of record keeping.
In short I was dissapointed with the book as it serves no real practicle purpose. No sets with card images, no complete check lists, nothing I couldnt have found for free either from Nintendos Pokemon TCG website or elsewhere on the internet.
If you want a "Pokedex" type book I suggest the Prima guide that includes actual game information for every pokemon from every game.
As for this book, its a complete waste of money.Pokemon 10th Anniversary Pokedex (Prima Official Game Guide)
- My nephew requested this for Christmas and was very pleased with it.

3 comments about The Fred Arbogast Story: A Fishing Lure Collector's Guide.
- Scott Heston's THE FRED ARBORGAST STORY: A FISHING LURE COLLECTOR'S GUIDE is for any avid collector of fishing lures: it surveys both cataloged and uncataloged lures, providing good-sized color photos of both lures and packaging and blending design history insights with values. Any sports or fishing collectibles collection will want this.
- Excellent book, has lots of great info about the Fred Arbogast Company and the lures and items that are collectable. The print quality of some of the pictures could be better, especially the color charts, but that aside, thanks to Scott Heston for putting it together.
- This has to be THE best collectors guide I have ever purchased on ANY collectable, EVER! Even better than his book on Ohio fishing lures. I am so glad I bought this guide. I recently found an old tackle box full of old lures at a yard sale, one of the lures were still in it's box, both in incredible condition! (not gonna mention which lure...but it is valued at $200 in the box)...this guide helped me to recognize what an outstanding deal these lures really were at the price...I paid only $5 for the lot and was able to make quite a tidy profit off of them on eBay. The eBay tips on picture viewing (or in my case, taking) helped me to show the lures off to their best advantage...Thanks Mr. Heston!!!
