1 comments about Waterfront Retreats.

  1. My compliments to both Ana and Harper Design for this publication. This is a book about 21 uniquely Modern homes on the waterfront. Each is showcased with a floor plan, quick synopsis, and photos. It is mostly a picturebook. One of the wonderful things about this book is that it presents itself as a portfolio. You get the sense that such a presentation was handled with the sense of care and understanding that each architect himself would have put into representing his/her house had they done them individually. Unlike other books showcasing Modern architecture, this one provides a good range of solutions architects have employed to capture that "million-dollar view", whether it is siting, materials, or spatial organization. I would have rated it higher had it given the details to compliment the photography. This is a wonderful addition to any architectural library.

  1. rich in graphics and details, perfect companion when you need quick answers, specially if you get a used book at a fantastic price like these, it is worth it!!

  2. dear sir/madam

am in need of a book call newfet Architectural data so plsss help me find it plss

    from terry

  3. This is a book that sometimes resembles Neufert's, but it has a lot of additional information you might need that will make easier the process of designing various types of buildings. It gives you notions, ideas, proportions, measures and everything you need to know when starting a project. A must-have to any architect (specially with these incredible low-priced used ones. I got mine for 13 bucks and it's absolutely like new).

  4. Amozon.com says that they save you money on books but this book cost a cool 150 smackers even if a customer has purchased many books from them -- the book is valuable and used like a dictionary for reference -- why can't we get a resonable price for it -- Amozon.com send out thank you and promises to do their best to keep the price lowest but why do they continue to bate and switch.

3 comments about Masonry Design and Detailing.

  1. If you want to build more than a backyard wall or barbeque, the information contained here will put you on the right track. Most masons will follow a building plan, but this book gives the framework for the plans. This text will cover in depth structural design and problem solving associated with layout, material, and construction of masonry structures.

  2. As the previous reviewer, I also am a structural engineer and have not found the book to be very useful for my line of work. It does have some nice details and empirical information that would probably be useful for architects and contractors.

  3. I found the masonry details to be very good in showing how a masonry building goes together and as such would be very good for Architects and Contractors. However, as a Structural Engineer I was looking for a book with more detail regarding the design methods and equations. I was looking for a book that would teach a beginning engineer the basics of masonry design. After the engineer had mastered the basics and could design a masonry building using the equations then, with that understanding and experience, could make use of the design tables in this book.

We have this book in our library and I can say that it is seldom used. We design masonry buildings using hand calculations, the UBC and computer programs.

Bottom line is that this book is great for Architects and Contractors building small masonry structures. It is not as useful for the serious Structural engineer.

2 comments about Drawing As a Means to Architecture.

  1. When I found this book back in college in 1979, I finally learned perspectives and rendering. (it only cost $12.50 then). His way is not about complicated grids but understanding the concepts of depth and perspective. This book also has something you never see which is overlays in color (thin tracing paper sheets) that overlay the line drawing to show the progression of the drawing from start to finished color. I am using this as a textbook for my Architectural Rendering class and reccomend it to everyone.

  2. This book will help anyone interested in architecture or drafting hone their craft. Mr. Lockard writes and describes how to do most drafting work and puts it in an easy-to-follow manner. His opinions and ideas are valid and up to date. This would be a great help to beginning architecture students.

2 comments about Colours of Architecture: Coloured Glass in Contemporary Buildings.

  1. As a student, this text was incredibly helpful in opening my eyes to the possibilities of glass. I had no idea such methods and techniques are being used all over the world! This will definitely add to my studio practice as well as my scholastic prowess. I am recommending this text to my professor as a required reading for our contemporary architecture course. I think many students would benefit from the breadth and depth of this work.

  2. This book speaks to the evolving landscape of architecture with beautiful images and captions capturing the essence of architecture today. Breathtaking views of colored glass invite the reader while the critical commentary provokes thought and sparks further dialogue. This text is a must read for any aspiring architects, artists, or lovers of the arts. Very clear, beautiful, and evocative.
