3 comments about Salt & Pepper Shakers IV: Identification & Values (Salt & Pepper Shakers IV).
- This was one of the first books I bought on S&P collecting...I found it very informative & it educated me enough on different makers, materials, & styles to put me on the path of collecting S&Ps. The book helps the beginning collector & keeps the love of the search going for the advanced collector. It's still one of my favorites.
- 240 pages of nearly 1,000 large, sharp, clear, full color salt and pepper photographs. This is the 4th volume in the popular set, with prices updated for 1999. Not much text, but salt and pepper shaker collectors will be delighted with the pictures featured. Major topics range from Advertising, Animals, American Mades to Birds, Fish, Fowl and Condiment Sets to Holidays, Nodders, Places and Plastics. There is a very nice section on "Tomorrow's Collectibles." The book's best selling point is the quality of every photograph featured. Collectors who enjoy seeing beautiful photos of salt and peppers are sure to enjoy this volume.
- This little book is a great tool for quick reference. The pictures are great and all in colors. Short comments. If you need more detailed info: try Melva Davern's books, also great pictures but a little more history.

2 comments about Fun & Collectible Kitchen Towels: 1930s to 1960s.
- What a cool and fun book! I love vintage towels and this book shows hundreds of pictures of them. Just about every design you can think of is printed on these towels, including Black Americana, children, desserts, floral, gardening, spirits and lots more, all from the 1930's through 1960's. Excellent information on the history of the companies that made these towels plus information on textile artists. Interesting to read glossary and a chapter on how to launder vintage linens. Also shows wonderful old catalog and magazine advertisements for these towels including their original descriptions and prices which I loved reading. Also recommended "Fun Linens & Handkerchiefs" by Scofield & Zalamea.
- Vintage tea towels: brightly colored roosters, radishes, red cherries, and aproned poodles are but a few of the cheery patterns that decorated kitchen towels in a by-gone era of Americana. Hundreds of charming images of homey innocence are documented and preserved in this beautiful book featuring high quality reproductions of a vanished art form. Highly recommended.

1 comments about Bakelite Style.
- This coffeetable collectable book about Bakelite and the Style of its time is beautiful and informative. But this memoir of the "miracle material" would have been even better in gloss, as with the brilliant patina of its subject, rather than matte.
The reader is often jarred with syntactical reminders that the book was printed in China: "No longer in demand for consumer goods, Bakelite returned mercurial career ending as it had begun" [sic.] Say what? And then there is the horror: a Texas Chainsaw Massacre-type approach to test for true Bakelite. The author advises that a good way to tell if a piece is really Bakelite is to take a hacksaw or sandpaper to it! Please ignore this part of the book. Don't ruin the Bakelite! They don't make it any more! There are better Bakelite barometers! Aside from these admonitions, this is a big, broad, beautiful buffet, an overview and history of bygone eras' sumptuous stuff and practical products. TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer

1 comments about Coffee Makers: 300 Years of Art and Design.
- I was disappointed. Arrived a large book with equally large space filling print. For me it lacked sufficient images and some of the discriptive details were simply incorrect and showed a lack of knowledge of the subject. To sum up its a coffee-table type of book only that lacks depth and study, but may appeal to the new collector or established collector.

2 comments about Official Price Guide to Collector Plates, 6th Edition (6th ed).
- I found this book very helpful. It is comprehensive in its coverage. It is somewhat difficult to find plates and could be better organized. The pricing should be more current. Plates from 1990 to 2001 should at least have going rates listed, not New Issue. Most readers are trying to get an idea of the value of their collection. On P.7, the author says that RI means issued in the last five years. Many plates issued as long ago as 1992 have NI. I found most of the values listed NR and BR to be fairly accurate.
- Great, some illustrations, some tips for buying and selling, however, not updated for the internet. Some prices are off the wall but overall a good reference.

5 comments about Collectors Encyclopedia of Stangl Dinnerware (Collector's Encyclopedia).
- Without a good book for reference - collectors have to scan several - well - this book has it all - patterns - prices and good photos - remember price guides in any book are subject to local and regional trend - so don't get caught up with BOOK PRICES. Buy what you like for a price you think fair. Go buy the book - can't wait for the next one.
- This is one of the finest reference books in the industry today. Thoroughly researched and no stone left unturned, in fact, a remarkable manuscript by anyone's standards. I can hardly wait for his sequel to come out on Stangl Artware, Lamps and Birds. I hear its going to be a doozy!!
I strongly suspect that Mr. Harvey Duke still has a lot of his own books to sell and has sent one of his henchmen to "stir the pot". FOR SHAME!!
- The book is awful. The color pictures are awful; so much for professional photography. Poorly-written text. "I have to wonder if the author and his partner have set the prices to reflect their current inventory as they are also dealers of Stangl & Fulper potteries," said it best. Don't waste your money on this or any other Runge book that may be promoted. In it for themselves.
- This is just the best book ever on the subject, great photos, unbelieveable color. Very thorough history chapter, obviously written by someone who truly knows his subject and loves it. I am of the understanding that 100% of proceeds from the sale of the book provided the funds necessary for the Runges to establish the Stangl Pottery museum in Flemington. Fantastic book, fantastic people!!! When's book 2?
- Excellent Book, will take it faithfully to antique shows and malls. Lots of great information and the photos are outstanding. I'm glad to finally have a guide book that's helpful, informative and expertly written.
