2 comments about Peachblow Glass: Collector's Identification & Price Guide.

  1. A great new 208 page treasury of Peachblow Glass collectibles, with more than 500 very large, colorful, sharp photos. Pricing is year 2000. The quality of the photography is amazing. You'll find plenty of useful and interesting in depth information here. Major topics range from Morgan, Mt. Washington, World's Fair, to Italian, Fenton, Imperial, Pilgrim and Intaglio. Newcomers to the hobby will find it most vaulable, as will the old-timers. You can't go wrong with this book. It's a beauty. Add it to your collection.

  2. I have just begun to collect peachblow glass and I know very little about it. I bought the most beautiful vase, not knowing what it was other than glass, and decided to learn a bit about the piece in particular.....and then I discovered the wonderful world of peachblow! I picked up info here and there, but began to notice that it was confusing - the types, the companies that made them, the coloration, the imitations and most of all, what the heck defines what is and what isn't "peachblow," "peach blow," "peach bloom..." and so on. I started looking for a book that was informative, yet written so a beginner could comprehend. Voila! I found out about this book and it was a super investment. The pictures are stunning and the captions are helpful. The book is divided into chapters by company/type (i.e. Mt. Washington, Wheeling etc.) and each chapter gives loads of info, pictures, history and the Identification Cards, which plainly set out the characteristics of that particular type. If you collect peachblow or any glass or antiques, or if you just love beautiful art - this book is for you. Since the coloration and pictures are so excellent, it even makes a perfect "coffee table" book! I couldn't be more pleased.

5 comments about The Open Salt Compendium (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This is a wonderful book. The picture are indeed exceptional. I disagree with the review that we will not see most of these salts in everyday life.
I have seen many of these and own some. Of course there are some we will never see but it is nice to see what has been made in the past. This book is made for every one to enjoy and use every day.

  2. This book is a huge step up from the Heacock & Johnson 5000 Open Salts. The photography is outstanding and the descriptions are informative with current pricing. The authors did a wonderful job of publishing a reference book for open salt collectors which complements the H&J but focuses on higher end salts and includes very little duplication from those in the H&J. This book was long overdue for the serious open salt collector. Thanks for all the hard work to make it happen.

  3. I must agree with the previous "Raves" about this book. I do feel that the new collector can benefit from it also - If I had been aware of such examples of open salts and the information given in this book - perhaps I would not have passed up some finer pieces in the beginning or made some of the mistakes in my early purchases. I have been a basic pattern piece collector but this book has kindled new interests in my collecting desires. I would strongly suggest this book be owned by all Open Salt Collectors - new or seasoned!!!

  4. This book is a "must have" for long time collectors. For new collectors, it might be a bit expensive but well worth looking at for the information and comprehensive categories of open salt collecting. The photographs of salts and the price and rarity guide beneath each set of pictures is invaluable. Many books on open salt collecting are out of print or have outdated prices. This book is a wonderful feast for the eyes and a great deal of time and effort went into the gathering and photographing of collector's salts.

  5. The previous standard reference book for open salt collectors was Heacock and Johnson's 5000 Open Salts, dating to 1982, still a great basic book, especially for pattern glass. This new entry in the field is outstanding for its clear, beautiful pictures, informative descriptions, and recent price guide included within the text. It does, as one reviewer said, include many high end salts like Steuben, Daum Nancy, and Tiffany that may not be found on the beginning collector's shelf, but it's a wonderful look at what's out there in open salts, and there are many that the average collector certainly may hope to own and even have in the display cabinet. I have found it helpful, even invaluable, as I buy salts for my collection and try to evaluate what I see on the internet or in shops. There was a crying need for a new entry in the open salt collectors' book field. Definitely a 5 star book!

3 comments about Miller's 20th-Century Glass (Miller's Guides).

  1. Such a valuable book I use it almost every day. I use this text for my own research to show clients examples of glass work. The photographs are fantastic you can see each detail. Millar's always seem to put out a great text.

  2. This book is loaded with pretty pictures. If you buy a book about glass patterns, I would assume you are trying to identify what you have and wish to have a good reference. Instead, you get pretty pictures of glass mostly assorted by artist. This isn't helpful! If you just want to bursh up, you might like this. I'm selling this on eBay and just to get some of my money back! It's really that bad.

  3. This is a "must have" for glass enthusiasts. It is very well researched and covers many little known glass studios and manufacturers. The value guide is also very helpful.

2 comments about Glass A to Z.

  1. "Glass A to Z" is an excellent encyclopedia of information about glass, manufacturing processes, and manufacturers. It's alphabetical listing of topics makes it very to easy use to locate information quickly. Topics are cross-referenced as well. Topic headings are in bold print and paragraphs about the topics range in length. A handy section at the back of the text includes a section with manufacturer's marks as well. Whether you are a novice collector or a glassware buff, this is a great book to have in your library. Although the book was published in 2002, the information is timeless. Mine is well-worn from extensive use.

  2. If you want a basic, comprehensive reference manual on art glass, this is the book for you. It contains an exhaustive, alphabetic listing of every popular art glass term, technique, and manufacturer. Each listing contains detail limited to a single sentence to several paragraphs, according to the depth of the topic. Like most encyclopedias, it won't make you an expert on any one topic, but it will give you most of the basic information you will likely ever need if you want to collect or deal in art glass. Not many photos, but a lot of information.
