3 comments about Tomart's Price Guide to Character & Promotional Glasses Including Pepsi, Coke, Fast-Food, Peanut Butter and Jelly Glasses; Plus Dairy Glasses & Milk.

  1. I confess that I am a little disappointed in the revised 3rd edition of this book which I purchased after seeing an earlier edition in the reference section of our local library. I am a collector of Big Top peanut butter song glasses, and this book seems to be one of the few that has information about these glasses. When I looked up the Big Top glasses in this latest edition, there was actually less text and fewer photographs of these glasses than there had been in the earlier edition!! For this reason, I have a hard time considering the third edition "revised and expanded." There are also a number of Big Top glasses with children's songs that are not listed (London Bridge, Farmer in the Dell, Little Bo Peep, Billy Boy, etc.)

  2. I bought two other books at the same time as this one.. Chase and Kelly's "Collectible Drinking Glasses" and John Hervey's "Collector's Guide to Cartoon and Promotional Drinking Glasses". All three are good, but this one is the one I keep coming back to, while on the hunt at flea markets etc.

I am new to collectible glasses so I can't speak to issues of accuracy or pricing.

    Hope this helps!

  3. We have waited paitently for the release of this book as it has been 2 years since we were told it was going to be released. Time and effort are clearly visible as it gives reference of over 800 new glasses that the previous editions lacked. Many of the small mistakes about certain glasses have also been corrected.

This is clearly at the top of its class for promotional glasses and is more extensive in categories then all the other so called glass books available on the market. As with any collector book this one has prices in it and not all of them are reliable as the common items appear to be overpriced and the high end glasses appear to be underpriced. The only dissapointment I had overall with the book was its combining black and white photos on same pages as color shots, since part of the page is in color it would be nice to have the whole page in color.

In any event Tom Hoder did an excellent job overall and this book will still stand above others as the one people will use as a guide.

1 comments about Contemporary International Glass.

  1. Contemporary International Glass: 60 Artists In The V&A by Jennifer Hawkins Opie (V&A's curator of contemporary glass and a leading expert in this specialized field) is an impressively beautiful introduction and survey of the V&A's outstanding collection of glass art. Each showcased piece is presented in a full-color photograph, along with a statement (if any) by the artist, information concerning its composition, the training, professional, and teaching experience of the artist, and notable critical commentary. A wide variety of modern images, colors, suggestions and themes from classical design to abstract sculpture fill this remarkable display of uniquely modern art.

5 comments about Warman's Depression Glass: A Value And Identification Guide.

  1. The book has a good indication of the value of today's worth.
Good for the beginner of Depression Glass investigating.

  2. This publication is very useful to me because I am a beginner collector and it contains the information needed to identify true depression glass pieces.

  3. This is the second book I have purchased on depression glass. The first was the book by Gene Florence. This book is much easier to see the designs. It has a shape guide that is very helpful as well as a box on each pattern with a black and white illustration of the pattern of the plate. If you just buy one book on depression glass, this should be it.

  4. HERE IS A BOOK THA TPLACES ANYTHING GENE FLORENCE HAS PUT OUT TO SHAME. EASY TO USE. MANY PATTERNS THAT FLORENCE NEVER "BOTHERS" WITH. IF YOU ARE NEW OR A SEASONED PRO WITH DEPRESSION GLASS. HERE IS A BOOK THAT WILL HELP!!!!!!

  5. This brand new, 256 page soft bound volume contains over 150 black and white photos and more than 400 full color, large, sharp photos. It covers more than 150 of the most popular Depression glass patterns and offers more than 10,000 up-to-date values !! The book's layout is nice, with very large colorful headings in each section. There's a good introduction to the collectible, and interesting and useful company time-lines, color time-lines, resources, references, color identification guide, shape guide and thumbnail guide. These tools will help you locate the things you seek. Patterns and items range from Adam, American Fostoria, Cloverleaf, Dewdrop and Fire King, to Petalware, Pineapple, Queen Mary, Radiance, Waterford and Windsor. The book is designed to be useful for the novice as well as the expert. Ellen Schroy is truly an expert when it comes to antique glassware. This updated book has a lot to offer depression glass enthusiasts. Add it to your collectibles library. You'll find it easy-to-use and fascinating.

1 comments about Oil Lamps 3 : Victorian Kerosene Lighting 1860-1900.

  1. This is the third book by Catherine Thuro on the subject of kerosene oil lighting and lamps. This book is as informative and useful as were her other two books. As an avid collector of whale oil and Kerosene oil antique lamps and lighting, I feel her books are one of the best reference sources available. I highly recommend this book to anyone who embraces the passion of collecting antique lighting!

3 comments about Colors in Cambridge Glass II: Identification and Value Guide (Colors in Cambridge Glass).

  1. I liked the book because it showed a variety of Cambridge designs and colors. I was able to identify several pieces I have based on the photographs in the book. The pictures and close-ups are not the greatest, but they're good enough to be helpful in making identifications.

  2. The National Cambridge Collectors Inc. spent many hours revising the Colors book only to have the finished product not meet expectations. The proofs were fine, but when the final printing came out, the results were poor. The NCC has issued the following statement on their web site:

"The long awaited follow up to the original Colors in Cambridge Glass was released by Collector Books in the Summer of 2006. The NCC Board of Directors reviewed the product and issued the following statement at the time:

"This month, Collectors Books released a new Colors of Cambridge book that was produced in concert with NCC. This is a project many members spent countless hours on, as a new book was needed - the original Colors book was no longer going to be printed.

"There have been definite issues and problems in the printing process. Color reproduction that looked acceptable in the "proof stage" does not look good in the final printing. Collectors Books is aware of these concerns and is addressing them.

NCC wants its members and friends to be aware of these concerns as this is not a product we are 100% satisfied with. For those members who wish to buy this product anyway, NCC is allowing members to buy it at the wholesale rate of $17.99. Non-members may buy it from us at $19.99. In all cases, we advise "buyers beware" as this is a product we do not have full confidence in."

  3. Loved the first volume but the new one has lousy photo's. They are grainy and not what I expected from the National Cambridge Collectors. I can't figure out why they would wait so long to publish a second book and use such poor images. Very disappointed and all I can say is go to a bookstore or library and check it out for yourself BEFORE you buy it.

  1. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE BOOK I PURCHASED FROM AMAZON.COM THIS BOOK DID GIVE ME ALL THE INFORMATION I WAS LOOKING FOR. AND DOING BUSINESS WITH AMAZON.COM WAS VERY GOOD, AND THE PRICES AND SHIPPING WERE VERY SATISFACTORY.

  2. As a whole it is fantastic. But, by not listing the men's by name, such as "Leather"; it caused me a lot of time and trouble trying to find it.
