5 comments about Making Natural Hoof Care Work for You.
- Our farrier recommended this book for us to read. My daughter leases a horse that foundered and fortunatly it was caught fairly early but she still had hoof issues. The farrier wanted to continue her barefoot and told us that this book would explain why. I have to say that the book is an easy read and the explaination was great. Our Bella is doing fine and I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to "go natural". It is working for us and our horse.
- Very good step by step instructions on hoof trimming for keeping your horse barefoot. Pete Ramey has obviously put a lot of research and thought into his methods which he uses on his own string of rental trail horses in the mountains of Georgia.
- This is a great informational book on natural hoof trimming and includes a wealth of information on general hoof health and care.
- This book is the perfect companion to Jackson's Horse Owner Guide to Natural Hoof Care. You will truly learn about trimming in Ramey's book, and if you have been trimming, you may figure out what you can do better. The multiple pictures of before and after trims are invaluable guidance when learning the art of trimming.
- Great book. Great concept. A must for 'natural' horse care people. Would like to see more specific how-to in a chart or chapter.

5 comments about Tug of War: Classical Versus "Modern" Dressage: Why Classical Training Works and How Incorrect Riding Negatively Affects Horses' Health.
- Tug of War is a must read for all horse owners, especially show, dressage & western riders. This book has opened my eyes about bio-mechanics of horses and why they respond and behave the way they do. The picture on the front of the book looks extreme but just have a look at what is happening in Adult Riding Clubs, Pony Clubs etc, examples of over flexing and extreme bends are there. This book is for people with a driving force within that want change for themselves their horses and within the industry, well written and in basic terms so that you don't need a degree to understand.
- This book is a must for all riders/trainers who love and care for horses. Reading it was a rude awakening for me since it showed me how harmful my "modern" training and riding were for my horses. I want healthy and happy horses so no more shortcuts for me.
Pascale
- I would that every rider, regardless of discipline, would read this book. It relates excellent information that goes against the grain of much commonly held training. Our horses would move with more freedom and pleasure and have long careers instead of early retirements. Well illustrated and explained. It's actually a quick read. The principles are simple and consistent. Very accessible.
- This book is great for riders, judges, and anyone interested in the good of their horse. Pictures are very informative to show correct & incorrect riding, training.
- There aren't enough superlatives to praise this book. It is a must read in my view for anyone who owns, rides, trains, or works with horses.

5 comments about What Your Horse Wants You to Know: What Horses' "Bad" Behavior Means, and How to Correct It.
- In the second paragraph on the first page this book talks so much sense. It is to the point, easy to read and easy to apply these techniques to our equine friends. I would thoroughly recommend this book to everyone who has any kind of interaction with horses on a daily or irregular basis. It is the platform for the 'perfect partnership'. YC
- I really enjoyed the book. I am a new horse owner and found the book to be very helpful.
- Very good reference book. Author presents from the horse's point of view which is how the title reads. As usual, however, the one problem that my hose developed is missing. But that may be expected since horses don't often read.
- Whether you're a beginning horse trainer or more advanced, and no matter what kind of training you are into, this important reference guide will teach you to communicate with your horse.
- Gincy has provided a wonderful resource for all horse owners whether beginners or seasoned experts. No matter what discipline you are involved with, this book will become a favourite. It applies to horses beginning their education as well as seasoned competitors, ridden or driven, and just much loved family pets.
The basis for all relationships with our horses is communication. Gincy explains clearly how to read what your horse is saying to you and how to clearly communicate your instructions to him.
This book, like Gincy's others, is full of Gincy's very perceptive insights into equine behavior and motivation. At the same time, she generously cites highlights from the work of other successful trainers and instructors. She totally understands and loves her subject. She isolates each 'problem' or unwanted behavior, explains what it means and not only tells us how to change it but also what not to do.
For the beginner, this book provides a ready reference to cover hundreds of situations that arise in our day to day association with our horse or pony. For the experienced horse person, it is a compendium of knowledge that is so far unequaled in training literature.
Aside from all that, it is an entertaining read.

5 comments about How to Build Animal Housing: 60 Plans for Coops, Hutches, Barns, Sheds, Pens, Nestboxes, Feeders, Stanchions, and Much More.
- Great projects, concise writing, great way to add to your design ideas for building "homes" for your "crew".
- This book is more for the professional builder then for the do it yourself. I would bother with this one unless you have the skills to build it.
- I bought Carol's book about two years ago; now it's battered and ragged because it's been hauled around the farm so much, propped up on things as we use its designs to make new stuff. This is one of my all-time favorites. If you live on a small farm and you're a do-it-yourselfer, you NEED this book!
- This book is absolutely fantastic for those who are just starting out. There are plans and pictures for every style and taste you may be searching for. It's easy to read...with great graphics.
- As a hobby, I enjoy capturing wild animals and putting them in cages. But I am fairly new to this hobby, so I do not own many cages. This book has helped me learn how to build my own animal cages.
As a child, I enjoyed going to the zoo. But something was always missing in the zoo experience. Now that I am an adult, and capturing my own wild animals, I feel more fulfilled.
When I see an animal in a cage, it makes me feel important and powerful, especially if I'm the one who captured the animal.

5 comments about When Pigs Fly!: Training Success with Impossible Dogs.
- It is a very good dog training book. It explains things in a way that is very easily understood and gives you different ideas as to what a reward can be, ie that a dog that likes to sniff a lot you can use this behavior when training, as a reward. It breaks the training down into small pieces that is easy to follow. I have recommended this book to a few of my friends and they are also using it to train.
- I have a pigs fly dog- and most of my training successes have been because of suggestions in this book! I disagree with a previous review that stated it was "old" material and "agility tricks"- it is a book that provides NEW methods to increase the bond with your dog while training; to help get a more focused dog; and most importantly how to have FUN while training your 'difficult' dog. I can't recommend this book enough to EVERYONE who has a dog they want to build a stronger working relationship with- Pigs fly or not!
- En af de bedste klikkerbøger, jeg har læst !
well better in english than danish-I guess: One of the best clicker-instruction books i`ve read so far( which is some). especially because it gives hope to all dogowners with "impossible" dogs. it is well written, funny and with a lot aha-experiencies.
- This book is aces! The author gives her own approach to training, which is solidly based on contemporary techniques. She goes into much detail about how to clicker-train, but even if you choose not to use a clicker, there is good information here.
Though the book is directed toward the author's preference in dogs--not easy ones!--the methods are also solid for easily-trained dogs. The fact is, few dogs are easily trained without a glitch now and then! She does a really good job of giving insights into how some of the "Impossible Dogs" think, and why they were bred to think that way.
She also gives insights into why more easily trained dogs are more easily trained. She says--and I strongly suspect she is right!--that easily trained dogs are not necessarily more intelligent. You just have to learn what motivates the "Impossible Dogs." And this book will tell you how, very clearly.
- Bought this cuz I loved the title. Has some really good ideas and helped in many ways.

5 comments about Dog Training For Dummies (For Dummies (Pets)).
- I liked this book, well written and easy to understand. I teach dog training classes and would recommend this book to my class
- Have owned dogs for many years but this book
is by far the best book I have read on dog training.
Would recommend to anyone.
- I was searching for a resource written in "plain English" that would help me understand my dog from the inside out.
Dog Training for Dummies has given me some keen insight into my pet's psychology. I absolutely love the concept of "postive training" as this method will undoubtly ensure a positive bonding experience with my dog.
Jack and Wendy Volhard have written a training manual that should be given to each new puppy owner. This resource has de-mystified the concept of dog training for me and has encouraged me to challenge my dog to be the best canine citizen he can be. This is, of course, for his good and well being as well as for ours.
- Insofar as children are the usual family member wanting an animal, this book makes them part of the whole training aspect, whih I feel is as necessary as their doing chores. (ie: feeding, bathing, walking dog)
- I can't believe all the info in this book! It covers dog training and even nutrition. Worth every penny of the purchase price. Made me feel confident in my training techniques. I taught both of my dogs the "down" command in a week.

2 comments about Chicken Soup for the Soul: Loving Our Cats: Heartwarming and Humorous Stories about our Feline Family Members (Chicken Soup for the Soul).
- This is a great collection. Some of the stories made me cry, some made me laugh; they were all enjoyable. Purrrfect book to take to work and read during lunch hour. If you enjoyed this one you'll also like - A Cup of Comfort for Cat Lovers.
- This is a big volume with enough cat stories to make your head spin... Cats are not like dogs - they have their own rules and they demand respect from their owners. But they are also your good friends who will purr you to sleep if you treat them with the love that they demand. Most of the stories in this book are amusing and uplifting, some of them are also heartbreaking, but all of them are entertaining. If this book makes you yearn for more cats stories, you will be well served by the series of Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3)

5 comments about The Everything Dog Training and Tricks Book.
- I bought this book and the one for dummies. I love the format of this book, it has step by step instructions. They encourage you to introduce one trick at a time. My little pup - he is 5 months old knows so many tricks! He waves bye bye, gives high five, sits, lays, spins and is now hopping. The only trick he has had any trouble with is roll over. I can't wait to master the entire book!!!
The best dog training book I have ever owned!!!
- I was disappointed with the content of this book. I expected a step by step how to book based on the title. I subsequently ordered a book by Cesar Milan - dog whisperer, but still no how to tips.
- This book was just ok. very boring. Uses clicker training throughout the entire book. Does not give any alternative methods. Not the best book.
- What a fun book! It is what it says "the everything dog training and tricks book"--I wish they'd make a DVD showing how to do it also.
Although, the way the tricks are broken down into steps make them very easy to do, so good book--doggies, it's play time!
- This is the book to have. Very complete, lots and lots of good information.

5 comments about Clicking With Your Dog: Step-By-Step in Pictures (Karen Pryor Clicker Books).
- This is the sister of cookie training. Why use a clicker when you can use your voice? You are not mute for crying out loud. You can mark a command, a behavior, or even a trick much better with your voice. Besides, this method is for dog owners with three arms. One, to hold those treats, two to click around, and three to hold on to that leash.
If you truly believe that dogs like to please us, then why rely on a clicker or even a treat? Think about it. Your dog should sit because you said so and not because of a bacon strip. How I know this??? Because I actually train dogs for a living and am one the top in my field. These guys tell you to give your dog treats just for being alive. You will end up with a fat dog that drools and licks it's mouth every time you ask it to sit or lay down. It doesn't take much skill or talent to bribe a dog with treats and then call it dog training.
- The illustrations and the short, exact written instructions make it a wonderful handbook both for novices and experienced people who want to clicker train pets.
- This woman really knows dogs. Her training methods really work. This book definitely changed the way I relate to my dogs, and it made training so much easier.
- I have read a couple of clicker training books and have also gotten advice from a clicker-savvy friend, but read this to see if it had anything more to offer me. For those who don't know, clicker training uses a marker (the clicker) to mark the exact moment your dog is doing something you want her to. It's very powerful because it sends a kind of snapshot straight to your dog of what you want. You then, of course, give some kind of reward after clicking.
I liked that this book had lots of pictures and presented the information in different ways, for people with different styles of learning. Also, the author shows that there is more than one way to teach a behavior, even within the clicker training philosophy. To me, this is where many dog training books fall short. They present one way of approaching a new task, but there are many types of dogs and many types of trainers! To be shown that shaping, luring, and just waiting for behaviors are all possible ways to succeed is very encouraging. Of course, each task must still be broken down into baby steps, and each training session must be positive.
My one and only complaint is that Ms Tillman suggests raisins and grapes in her list of possible treats to use for your dog. There is anecdotal evidence that raisins and grapes can cause kidney failure in dogs. It's not necessarily proven, but why take a chance? Read this book, but skip the fruit of the vine! And have fun!
- Clicking with Your Dog is a great introduction to clicker training, and training in general. The pictures are clear and obvious. The instructions are also clear and explain the motivations of your actions and the dogs actions.
The book covers the most desired skills to teach a dog - from basic doggy etiquette to more advanced, impressive skills. I had very good results using the book as a guide while training my dogs. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

5 comments about Little Dogs: Training Your Pint-Sized Companion.
- This book like little dogs, Happy, Fun, and full of good humored ATTITUDE.I like to give this as a 'new puppy' or 'newly rescued' gift, especially to big dog people getting their 1st experience w/ the smaller cousins. Ms. Woods book has lots of great ideas for care, training and even game playing w/ the little guys. I love this book...you'll read it w/ a smile!!
- I thought this book was an excellent training manual for my 2 yorkies. Gives you insight into the dogs' perceptions of the world, and offers great advice on training your little dogs. When I trained my first yorkie, I tabbed certain "tricks" and wrote an index in the back to give me a quick reference point.... Came in very handy when training my second yorkie. I liked this book so much I purchased 1 for my mom, who has chihuahuas.
- My toy poodle is my first dog (although I had dogs growing up, they were never *my* responsibility, heh.) This book has been an invaluable training tool. It even had a solution for his incessant barking. He was worse than a car alarm. Anytime there was a noise, he'd go off. But the book gave multiple suggestions on stopping this. It took less than 2 weeks to train the alarm-barking out of him. I'm shocked. And all of the techniques are so gentle. I am able to use my soft-speaking voice and he listens. No yelling. No yanking on his leash. No forceful grabbing that could injure his tiny body. One thing, I did put him through a puppy training class, mostly for me to learn training techniques. It made this book easier to follow.
- I really enjoyed reading this book. It's informative in a fun way. I especially like the quips and pull-out stories throughout the book that provide real-life examples and stories about training. Although it's still a few more weeks until my fur-baby comes home to live with me, reading this book has made me excited and confident about my ability to train her, which I'm sure we'll both appreciate in the long-run.
- I was very surprised that there are training differences and ways to think about dogs and training not addressed in other books. I thought I knew it all. I was wrong. She makes you think about size and how a small dog learns etc. I thought I could guess them, I was wrong. These are things I have never thought of before. I have always had larger dogs. This is a must get book for dogs under 20 lbs or 12". It is the best dog book I have ever purchased. I do not say this lightly. A must have book.
