5 comments about Complete Book of Dog Breeding.
- Great book especially for novices! It gave you enough information to prepare for the birth, understand and know what to anticipate. We had 2 books handy while our chi gave birth to 6 puppies! Puppy birth is very similar to human birth in alot of ways. So, if you've been through child birth whether it's yourself or a loved one, the main thing is to remain calm and be there for your dog. They will appreciate you for it!
- This book was of great help, particularly when our pups began to dehydrate after birth. There were only 2 things it did not prepare us for, having smaller than normal litters and the mother's nervous behavior affecting her care of such a small litter. According to the emergency vet on holiday call, there are breed specific behaviors which play into the mother's care and can interfere. My only wish was that I could have found a book more specific to my breed. As a general instruction manual, it was of great help. The two little pups are dear and are doing well now, 2 weeks later.
- We just had a litter and everything went great. There are nine healthy pups. We had to do the slinging thing with one pup, and with the illustrations and directions it worked and the pup is healthy. We didn't loose one!!!
- I bought this book to help me get through breeding my two Yorkies. It was comprehensive and easy for the non-vet to understand. If I had a question, it had the answer.
- Excellent book. My dog just delivered 8 healthy puppies. I had read the book several weeks earlier and kept reffering to it as the whelping approached. It directed me all through the process and I learned many things that helped me avoid what would have been costly mistakes.

4 comments about 21 Days to Train Your Dog: Learn how any dog can be taught the basics of obedience training in just a few minutes each day.
- The consise information was helpful in training our two dogs. It worked for the older dog much to our surprise.
- Received my book in a timely fashion. Have been working with my Great Dane with this book and is working well. Excellent purchase choice.
- Clear, direct guidance. The author recognizes that dogs are not equals, they need training to be obedient and keep them safe as well as make them socially welcome. A good, practical book.
- This book is very informative, and a must have if you want to work with your dog without paying a professional trainer. The picture illustrations are a perfect compliment to the written instructions. I especially liked the detail given about other obedience issues such as dog language and how aggression begins between dogs. This book is a permanent addition to our living room reading material!

5 comments about My Recycled Pets: Diary of a Dog Addict.
- I loved how this is divided up into individual stories about each rescue. After the beginning information about the author, the stories begin. It took me 2 days to read the beginning and then 2 hrs. to read the individual stories. I just couldn't put it down. I hope she writes another book.
- i love the way she writes, and the way she expresses her thoughts and feelings. and i love each individual dog's story... 100% worth the $ for any animal lover, anyone interested in rescue, and anyone who has a dog of their own!! definitely a must read
- This was a great book and what made it even better was that it included resources at the end so you could get involved. The book is well written, draws you in and makes you feel like a part of each rescue and tragedy. I plan on reading this again and again. It gives you hope that one person can make a difference one or two dogs at a time
- I loved this book! I found it very inspirational and motivational. Thanks to people like Randi, I have the most amazing little rescue dog and I love reading about other successful rescues as well. As a dog lover who also sometimes volunteers for dog rescue in the Bay Area, I was touched by Randi's stories. I also love her spiritual approach, of searching for divine order in a chaotic world. The book has inspired me to begin volunteering/fostering for rescue again, and to give dogs that might appear unreachable a second chance.
- A current trend in books about dogs is that the dog(s) serve as a back drop for the author to talk about himself or herself. This book is not one of those books. And Randi Berger does a wonderful job telling the dogs' amazing stories.
I truly enjoyed reading this book about troubled dogs who are rehabilitated by Ms. Berger and end up as wonderful pets.

5 comments about Everything You Need to Know About House Training Puppies & Adult Dogs!.
- I just recently got a Puggle and wanted some advice on house training. The author was very rude about owners who work. I am out of the house most of the day at work. The author believes that if you are out of the house for the entire day then you should just get a cat. Apparently working "Mom's" don't have the right to have a dog. I didn't even read past that part and I wish I could have returned the book. Most people don't have the luxury of staying home all day. The author should recognize that rescuing a dog and having it in a nice cage with toys and a fluffy blanket is better than sitting in a cold, empty, cement cage at the pound. I suggest picking a different book where the author is not as judgmental.
- My husband and I are "cat people" and never thought of owning a dog until our children wanted one. I realized most of the work with training a puppy was going to be the parents responsibility and I wasn't sure I was ready. I bought this book 6 months before I made my decision. The book is very straight forward and addresses everything you need to know about house training dogs. We brought our puppy home when he was 8 weeks old. I bought everything on the must have lists and followed everything exactly. By 4 months old he was completely house trained. He's now 8 months old and we couldn't ask for a better situation. He even rings a bell by the back door to signal he needs to go out to "potty". I highly recommend this book.
- This book has been very helpful since we are first time puppy owners. I would suggest that if you are thinking about getting a puppy that you should get this book first, read through it and then get the puppy. We did it the other way around and if you buy the book first it will alleviate a lot of frustration as a puppy owner.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering a puppy.
- Lora Verni, a certified dog trainer with many years of experience, gives us the advantage of her expertise with this simple, yet highly effective book on house training puppies (and adult dogs who aren't 100% trained).
She guarantees that if you follow her steps, that you will have a house trained dog within one month--I found the book so effective that my dog was trained within 3 weeks!
This book, in simple and easy-to-read chapters, tells you exactly what to do to get your dog to "perform" on command, how to praise him when he's right, and how and when to correct him if he needs it.
In some chapters, she tells the reader that if they've understood the just-presented information, that they need to go back and read it again. She urges the whole family to be in on the house training routine--not just one "in-charge" family member.
She emphasizes crate training and why this is extremely important in training dogs not to "go" anywhere but their appropriate and special "spot".
All in all, if you haven't raised a dog in a while and are feeling the need for some pointers, this book will give you those and then some. In the conversational tone in which it's written, you will feel as if you're being given tips by a friend.
I would recommend it for anyone bringing home a new puppy, or an older dog who is "not sure" about it all.
- My girlfriend and I have only read the first few chapters and already learned a lot from the book. I believe some of what the author explains is redundant.

5 comments about The Natural Vet's Guide to Preventing and Treating Cancer in Dogs (Natural Vets Guide).
- I have a dog with mammary cancer. This book has given me more needed information and comfort than
any of the veterinarians (conventional & holistic), oncologists, or surgeons have given me on this grueling
journey. Doctors don't have the additional time needed to develop a integrative plan for your pet. This
book will prove to be an indispensable resource that you will turn to again and again. Loaded with information.
- I received the envelope with the ad circular but the book was not in the package.
- This book will help you to understand why cancer is so rampant in our pets, and give you alternatives to conventional food and medicine while raising them to be healthy and happy.
- I know I submitted a review before but for some reason it isn't here. I so want to encourage people to buy this book. Dr. Messonnier is a thorough researcher and a holistic vet with years of experience.
He explains different treatments and also preventative steps we all can take to try and keep our pets healthy.
Diane
- Dr. Shawn's book is filled with great wisdom and compassion. Information is a powerful weapon against cancer and Dr. Shawn proves this time and time again. Dr. Shawn's "The Natural Vet's Guide to Preventing and Treating Cancer in Dogs" is filled with invaluable and easy to comprehend information. This book will truly empower you as you wage battle against cancer in your beloved animal friend.

5 comments about Parrots For Dummies (For Dummies (Pets)).
- I found Parrots For Dummies to be an excellent resource. It's a larger book than most, well put together and well organized - full of useful inoformation on all aspects of keeping parrots.
I was very pleased to find that it discusses the pros and cons of wing clipping to help an owner to decide what is best for their bird. So far, it is the only parrot book I have seen to do a good job of that.
- Being a first time parrot owner I have referred to this book countless times. I have a male Eclectus parrot who is now nearly a year old and I attribute part of his good health and safety to this book's wisdom. Written in a clear and concise (and sometimes very funny) fashion, it has answered 90% of the questions I have had regarding feeding; bathing; problem solving; what to and NOT to worry about with my parrot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- This is a well done book. (As all of the "dummie" books have been for me so far. Whats great is you can use the same knowledge for other bird types. i would highly consider this if your a new parrot owner. A 5!
- I have many of the DUMMIE books and this is probably my favorite. I have many pets including birds for many years and still learned quite a bit from this book.
- This book is helping me to understand birds. Long ago when I had parakeets, there wasn't much written at all and well, the internet just didn't exist. This book has been a tremendous help to me, understanding the whys and whats of keeping a companion bird! I love my FIDS!

5 comments about Complete Holistic Dog Book: Home Health Care for Our Canine Companions.
- After getting another book, I found I wanted to ensure diversity in my book collection of reference materials. Saw this book, flipped through it in the book store and decided to get it. That simple. It has great information in it and bullets out just what I want to know. I also have the Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats : Your A-Z Guide to Over 200 Conditions, Herbs, Vitamins, and Supplements by Shawn Messonnier. Both of these books complement each other and provide what I need to know for taking care of my animals. Often, the herbs recommended correlate to the ones I'm taking (or that people take). I certainly don't mind sharing with my best friend and loyal companion.
My quest initially started because my 7 YO schnoodle suddenly experienced a slipped disk and couldn't walk (essentially hind leg paralysis, both hind legs). I was completely distraught at the prospect of surgery on the little guy. After learning a local chiropractor (ours as it turns out) would take a look at him, I took him in. I consider it CAM - complementary alternative medicine. I kept him on steroids, and pain management, and the chiro adjusted him. By the next morning he was able to walk out of his cage (where the meds had clearly made him sick all night). I decided then and there that there is no question in my mind that there is something to be said for alternative therapies. No one can convince me otherwise. This dog dragged himself around for two days, and the vets told me they saw no improvement when they had him. I continue with touch therapy and supplements to his diet. But I will never forget this extraordinary and valuable lesson. Our families are valuable treasures and we are entrusted with good stewardship of our K9 companions. This book helps make that job a bit easier.
- I recently ordered several books about dogs and how to maintain their health. This book was the BEST one of the bunch. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants the best for their animal companion(s). After reading this book I ordered several more to give as christmas presents.
I especially loved the chapter on the healthiest foods to feed your dog. It has changed the way I feed my own dogs and they absolutely LOVE their new way of eating. Who knew that the healthy foods that humans eat is exactly what is the healthiest foods for our own dogs. I know that I wasn't aware of that fact until I read this book.
I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who shares their life with a dog.
- Since buying this book it has become my best friend, it has helped me and especially my animal friends time and time again. Many of my dog loving friends also own this book now because of the info i have shared with them from this book . A definate must have if you are searching for alternative health care.
- Excellent book Well Written. Great format, great philosophy well researched.
All dog lovers should read and have this in their library. High marks !

- Fabulous book!! It is packed with information, but easy to understand and apply. I found the book to be very balanced and subjective in it's approach and advice. For example, it fairly presents the pros/cons of different diet approaches, without specifically recommending a "one size fits all" solution. All chapters of the book are valuable, but the section on diet and nutrition is particularly outstanding! Since reading the book, I have adopted a diet of home-cooked meals for my german-shepherd-mutt that is virtually 100% vegetarian! Seeing the way she responded to the new diet has converted many of my friends into believers who were total skeptics of a vegetarian diet. Although my dog was always healthy and happy, the changes are unbelievable in terms of her temperament, appearance and personality.
Regardless of whether you're looking to change your dog's diet (as I did), this is a valuable book and must-have for every serious dog owner!

4 comments about Doggie Knits: Sweaters & Accessories for Your Best Friend.
- This book is terrific. The patterns are clear and easy to follow, the book is bright and the dogs pictured are adorable! It has come out just in time for me to finish projects for the holiday gift season. Can't wait to see my friends and family putting these cute outfits on their dogs.
- I just got this book and it's wonderful. There are some great new techniques and some really cute new designs. The hat with holes for the ears and an attached scarf to wrap around is so adorable. I can't wait to knit that one. There is also a new snuggle bed pattern that I'm sure my cat will love. If you like pet knits, this one is worth the money for sure.
- I just took a peek at this book yesterday evening at my LYS. The patterns in this book are uniquely clever. The photos of these pooches are adorable. I can't wait to make the hat and scarf set for my little pup. Too Cute!!
- I thought this book was very well written and the patterns are stylish and simply wonderful. Not your typical simple sweater patterns for dogs. I don't have a dog but will be making sweaters for friends....many friends.
My favorite pattern is the hoodie and even has a pocket.

3 comments about Animals in Spirit: Our faithful companions' transition to the afterlife.
- A book for anyone that has helped an animal or has had a animal transition in their lives this is the book to read. The stories in it helped to heal my heart from the recent experience of helping my soul-mate cat PC (Perfect Cat) transition. Deeply moving and a well written book.
- This book is helping me cope with the loss of my cat. It explains so well why animals choose their passing, why they are here in our relationships, and best yet that they are still around us after passing.
- Penelope Smith's most recent book, "Animals in Spirit", is a beautiful, heartfelt, and sensitive guide to animals' perspectives on the death and dying process, as well their experiences in the spiritual dimension after leaving the physical body. In sharing her communications with her own animal companions, those of her clients, and in the wonderful contributions of experiences from many other animal communicators and their clients, Penelope addresses the experience of death from the animals' viewpoints, and also sensitively discusses the grief process for the animals' human companions. I especially loved the section on reincarnation, and the various ways that animals may choose to return to their people in a different body. This book made me laugh, cry, and rejoice at the variety and depth of animal wisdom concerning death. It opened my heart to deeper places of love and trust that love never dies, and to the knowledge that the energy of the connection with our animal friends is eternal.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has loved and lost an animal. There is a wonderful exercise for helping people to connect with the spirits of their animal friends who have died, as well as a beautiful grief and memorial ritual contributed by animal communicator Barbara Janelle. Throughout, the heartwarming communications from the animals to their human friends assures us that death is most often a natural transition for animals to a different state of being, without the fear and cultural baggage that we humans so often associate with it. In this, the animals are our teachers, as they show us how to accept the death process as a part of the eternal continuum of life.
My favorite passage in the book is at the very end, in a poetic inspiration that came through Penelope, which states, in part: "Flow with spirit, ever-changing in its guises. See the wildflowers bloom and die and give their seeds to the Earth. Nothing ever really dies or fades. Everything dissolves into unity and flows into another sea or shower or puff of air". As I experience the love and connection with my own animal friends, both in form and in spirit, I am so grateful for all that the animals have to teach us about love, life, and death.
