2 comments about The History of Sindy.

  1. This is a great book for Sindy collectors . As a fan of Sindy and having a lot of her fashions, furniture etc plus over 20 dolls from various years I find it invaluable and the best resource available. Would love to hear from other collectors

  2. I am a collector of Sindy doll paraphernalia and I found Colette's book to be well documented and superbly illustrated. Where photos and illustrations are unavailable, written descriptions are clear enough to identify items. The only fault I found, was 1 year (1978) in the history of the Sindy doll is missing from this book. I have already submitted copies of the catalogue for this year to her publishing house. Thank you Colette for a wonderful book. For me it is the ultimate, make that only, Sindy Doll Collector's book.

  1. We have read all three of Jack Johnston's sculpting books and find them all to be wonderful. He is one of the most sharing people in the doll world. If you have a chance you must purchase his books and videos. His new video on artdolls gives all dollmakers a leg up in making polymer dolls. Eventhough he uses only ProSculpt clay he explains how to use all of the polymer clays. He is true educator and "fine artist".

  2. This book is great! If you know nothing about making a doll out of polymer clay, this is the book for you. I learned how to make a doll face, hands, feet, shoes, and a soft body. Jack Johnston is one of the world's greatest doll artists, and I'm so glad he has decided to share his trade secrets instead of keeping them to himself.

2 comments about Collector's Guide to Celebrity Dolls: Identification & Values.

  1. I thought the book was ok and there were lots of pictures but about 400 not 950 as the other reviewer wrote. I wish there would have been more information, it's mainly a picture book. There's lots of newer dolls but not enough old dolls. Not what I expected. I would have liked to see more background and info on the dolls and characters. It was fun looking through the pictures though. Prices were pretty true, gave a good range.

  2. Hot off the presses is this brand new 2002 volume, complete with 224 pages filled with large, full color, sharp photos of every type of celebrity doll. Prices seem to be up-to-date. There are over 950 great photos!! There's not a lot of text, but descriptions are complete. Major topics include, TV stars, movie stars, actors and actresses, musical groups and singers, entertainers, historical figures, sports stars, bibilical characters, circus stars and more. Celebrity doll collectors will be delighted with this soft-bound book. 630

3 comments about Baby-Boomer Dolls: Plastic Playthings of the 1950's and 1960's a Reference and Price Guide.

  1. To try to fit all the Baby Boomer dolls in one book would be impossible. This book gives a good overview about dolls from this time. Good pictures, lots of company info. In its second printing so that should say something right there. My favorites were the TV related dolls like Jeannie and Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

  2. This was strong on Terri Lee dolls (9 pages) and on Mattel (13 pages). Though 16 pages were devoted to Madame Alexander, I felt that just two small pictures of "Cissy" were not enough; and there were no pictures of the Winnie or Binnie Walker dolls. Most of the MA coverage was of the child-dolls and Alexanderkins.
There were only two pages devoted to "Ginny"--and there were no pictures of Ginny with painted eyes, molded lashes, or bent knees. All were of the painted-lash version.
Karl offers less than 1 column (about 100 words!) on the prolific and highly collectible Virga dolls, offering no pictures at all.
The quality of the pictures is excellent, and this is a nicely produced book. But I feel that it does not offer full enough coverage, especially of the hard plastic dolls of the 1950s, to be considered a comprehensive guide.

  3. If you collect dolls of the 50s and 60s you should buy this book. It has hundreds of full color photos with descriptions and prices. It's a great reference guide. I enjoyed looking at so many of the dolls I grew up with.

1 comments about Insider's Guide to Doll Buying & Selling: Antique to Modern, Insider's Guide (Insiders Guide Series).

  1. I think Jan Foulke is the leading authority on doll collecting. This is a great book for beginners. It gives great advice on what to look for in a quality doll. The dolls condition can be just as important as its rarity etc... This book is not thick, but has great tips and advice. I would recommended any book by Jan Foulke. She also sells dolls on Ebay.

1 comments about Ultimate Teddy Bear Book.

  1. If you are looking for a book that combines the history of teddy bears with lots of full color photos of individual bears that is also packed with a lot of interesting facts about each bear (and about bear making in general) then this is the book for you.

I am not a serious teddy bear maker, but I enjoy looking at the myriad of photos of the antique bears and learning more about teddy bear history.
