5 comments about Vintage Clothing for the Fashion Doll.

  1. A great book with patterns to copy to make more clothes for Barbie.

  2. I spend hours looking through this book, imaging what kinds of fabrics to use for each vintage dress design! The author has really easy-to-understand instructions for many of Mattel's original doll outfits. It makes me, a novice seamstress feel confident and excited about sewing. It brings back memories of my childhood and watching my older sister sew clothes for my barbies! I can't wait to start making clothes for my daughter! Highly recommend.

  3. A very detailed and describing book. Many detailed pictures.
I am somewhat disapointed in the content though. Would have expected more advanced or exiting outfits.
Many of the outfit are more "basic" than "Vintage".

  4. There are some really sweet outfits to make for fashion dolls and patterns and instructions that make the job easier. Photos are bright and clear.

  5. I own several pieces by Marirose and she is a dream to work with. Her work is top notch and I admire and respect her talent, but this is a review of book.

I can barely sew and these patterns work for me. I've made 3 of them so far and I have trouble even threading a needle or running a machine. The layout and explanations make sense to an amateur.

On the other hand, she reproduces patterns here for some very rare and hard to find fashions that a Professional could certainly enjoy making.

It's a great book, from a wonderful lady.

I can't say enough good, except to add that she did not ask me to review her book or anything like that.

    Go Marirose!

5 comments about Creating Fashion Dolls: A Step-By-Step Guide to One-Of-A-Kind Dolls.

  1. I feel totally ripped off this is the worse book ever. First it should be doll. She only makes one doll. There is just no words for how horrible this book is and I buy alot of books this is by far the worst. PLEASE DON"T WASTE YOUR HARD EARN MONEY!!! SURF THE INTERNET !!!
I rarely give bad reviews but this must be said

  2. There is absolutely nothing useful in this book. I'm glad I skimmed it at the public library before deciding to buy it. Not worth $20.. about maybe a $5 book.

  3. This book was somewhat helpful when I wanted to learn how to makeover dolls. I learned a couple of tricks that I never would have thought of on my own. But, it wasn't quite what I expected. I expected more about repainting the face, but she only teaches how to paint over what's already there and glue eyelashes on.

  4. I must admit, I almost became swayed when I read the last few reviews of this book. I'm SO glad that I didn't though. I don't understand how anyone can say that this book is not a resource God for beginners! The book is extremely well written aside from some grammatical errors on the part of the publisher - and as someone else in the reviews said, it is more teaching than advertising. Sabrina uses a very friendly approach and starts off this first book with just the basics so that a beginner like me can get a feel of painting and sewing very minimally and still creating something exotic, glittery and gorgeous. I wouldn't part with the book personally. I've come up with a thousand and one ideas just from looking through the pages. Definetally worth the money!

  5. This book covers very little that is helpful in the world of fashion doll makeovers. It does nothing about repainting techniques, only "enhancements," which means changing the color a bit. It also uses colored pencils and those do not work on all fashion dolls. Other questionable techniques are presented. The end result is a "Vegas showgirl," but so little is learned and so much of it is wrong or ill-advised. A beginner will be more messed up by following it than helped.

5 comments about Ty Beanies Tracker: The World's Most complete Ty Guide.

  1. This book is very accurate, informative and well put together. For some time now I've been looking for an up to date beanie list and price guide and this book is it! It's a great item for all Ty collectors!

  2. This book is my bible when buying or selling TY beanies accurate price list, interesting facts and is a must for TY beanie lovers that love to collect these little guys.

  3. Few 20th century collectibles have had as huge a success in the popular culture as those small plush toys known as Beanie Babies -- as well as Punkies, Pinkys, Girtz, and more!. Now in an expanded and fully updated third edition, "Ty Beanies Tracker" under the deft editorship of Beanie Baby expert Karen Holmes provides collectors, dealers, and the general public with a unique, comprehensive, illustrated reference and price guide for these popular toy collectibles. Featuring more than 4,000 color pictures comprising the complete Ty product lines (including variations and rare items), "Ty Beanies Tracker", with its Note Pages, Daffynitions, Attic Treasures, and NASCAR Beanies, is a simply indispensable addition to personal, professional, and community library Antiques & Collectibles reference shelves.

  4. This new edition of Ty Beanies is a complete, very informative source for all "Beanie" collectors, old or new, excellent reference!

  5. Beanie Babies were one of the truly remarkable pop culture phenomena of the last 15 years. I can still remember the first time McDonald's offered the Teenie Beanies and my wife and I spent the better part of the weekend trying to track down as many of the little critters for our son as we could. Beanies, however, suffered the same fate as many other collectibles such as comic books and sports cards, two hobbies I was very familiar with. First, it quickly became driven by speculators trying to make a quick buck. Next, corporate greed too over as Ty began churning out more and more product and started to try and manufacture collectibles with special releases. Today, we go to garage sales and Flea Markets and see people dumping their Beanies, often for as little as a buck each.

Yet for its core collectors, those who got into it for the love, and not necessarily the promise of future value, Beanies are still around and viable. If you don't think there is still an active market out there for trading Beanies, just check out eBay. As I write this review there are over 21,000 auctions underway in the Ty category. The speculators have long since dropped out, prices have righted themselves, and Bangzoom has released the 2nd edition of their indispensable guide. The guide covers the Beanie scene right up through the beginning of 2006 and in its review of the marketplace it makes no bones about it...now is a great time to buy, but not such a great time to sell.

The book provides a history of Beanies and their hang tags. A picture of generation's unique tag is included in the book with notes on variations and changes. The book also lists several different Beanie related websites that feature news, accessory sales, trading posts, and other information. The book lists Beanies alphabetically, and lists their birth date, introduction date, retirement date (if applicable) and their hang tag poems. The generation(s) is also listed as well as a current price. But you'll find more than just Beanie Babies In the guide...it also covers Beanie Buddies, Kids, Boppers, Teenie Beanies, Jingle Beanies, Pluffies, Punkies, and more, over 1500 different TY items. The back provides a handy index and checklist.

While the craze of the mid-90's may be over, there are still millions of Beanie collectors and lovers out there and there is simply no better book on the Market than the Ty Beanies Tracker from Bangzoom.

1 comments about The World of Dolls.

  1. A different reference and price guide for folks that now collect the dolls they enjoyed playing with when they were young. It covers dolls from Shirley Temple, to American Girls Dolls, to paper dolls and G.I. Joe. It features over 300 dolls, with most in full page black and white photos. 28 are in full color. Many of the original doll and accessory ads and catalog inserts are included. Accompanying the pictures is sufficient interesting background information and doll history. Dolls from the 20's through the 90's are included. An interesting and useful book.

1 comments about The Doll: By Contemporary Artists.

  1. This is a beautiful book and a very precious one as well. I have the leather bound version with gold leaf. It is a very special piece in my collection of art books. The photos are crisp and bright and the information on each artist gives just a glimpse into the techniques used to create the featured pieces and a bit about the artist as well. Nice light reading accompanied by a very diverse collection of works.
