4 comments about The Essential Yorkshire Terrier (Howell Book House's Essential).
- The book is small and does have some useful information on Yorkies. However, I found the text to be more generic in the sense that it looks like the author copied a lot of the information from another generic dog book. Also, there were more errors in the text than there should have been for such a small book. For instance, on one page it mentioned how well a tick will show up on the dog's white coat. Yorkies don't have white coats. In addition, a lot of contradictory information was presented. In some parts of the text it mentions one thing while the boxes on the side said something else. To me the book was acceptable.
- Thoroughly enjoyed the book. While somewhat fewer pages than expected, the text was very enlightening and the photos were exceptional!
- I have bought several books on Yorkies and this one is by far the best. If you are thinking about getting a Yorkie, please get this book first!!!!!!!! It is full of information on the Yorkies personality and tempermant. It will truly help you get an understanding of the breed.
- This book has great information on yorkshire terriers. It's wonderful illustrations give great demostrations like grooming, care tips etc. It 's a good book for beginners.

3 comments about A Dog's Wisdom: A Heartwarming View of Life.
- I have to say that I bought this book because of its cover, title and index. Actually, it has lots of short stories describing different dogs and their families' daily lives. I don't think it is worthy if you want to learn how to train your dog, or understand your dog's way of thinking. All of those stories are too simple, full of human emotions without insightful analysis.
- It's kind of "cutsie", but not particularly full of insight. Just some observations most any dog owner would make.
- Hi, this is Margaret H. Bonham, the author. I want to tell you a bit about A Dog's Wisdom. It was a very hard book to write because it was very emotional. I decided to explore the reasons why dogs are so great. Dogs seem to have an inherent wisdom that we humans sometimes lack. They know to take care of their own, to party with wild abandon, and to love those who love us (and many times love those whom no one loves).
This book explores the unique relationship we dog owners have with our dogs. Over the years I've had the joy of meeting many wonderful dogs -- and even a coyote whom I affectionately called Maynard. I tried to put into words what I saw within those deep brown (or in some cases, blue) eyes.
To be honest with you, I can't read some of the stories without getting all teary-eyed. Yes, there are sad stories, but there are happy, funny, silly, touching and even amazing stories. I have found wisdom in so many dogs I've known. I bet you have too.

3 comments about W Is for Woof: A Dog Alphabet (Sleeping Bear Alphabets: Animal).
- This is a great book! Beautiful illustrations, and wonderful word use for each letter of the alphabet!
I especially enjoyed 'T' for Therapy Dog, as my own dog and I are a therapy team.
- This would be a great book even if you don't have a dog but were thinking about one for the family. With all the information about dogs & puppies (I am partcial to the puppies because the P for puppies,as well as the cover were from my litter !!) and the art work is fabulous, even very small children would enjoy just looking at the pictures.
- This book is wonderful and the pictures are amazing! Anyone who loves dogs and puppies would enjoy this. They call it an "alphabet" book, however it is more about what the dogs are doing rather than names of breeds. This would be an excellent book for an adult to read to a child. It would be a great low calorie Valentine's gift. The book is extremely well-wriiten and you can see that Ruth Strother knows a LOT about dogs.
Oh and check out "Q is for Quest". Those are MY Bloodhounds! Liberty and Rose.

1 comments about Tail Talk: Understanding the Secret Language of Dogs.
- This is such a great book! The photos are wonderful, the style of writing is fresh and knowledgeable. Starting with the most basic dog signs, and moving to more intricate behaviors, the author provides information and examples, as well as amusing perspectives of the action in the photos. Perfect for dog owners and lovers, even a cat person (like me) can't put this book down. So intriguing, you actually want to seek out dogs, just to put the info to practical use.

5 comments about New Secrets of Successful Show Dog Handling.
- If you are brand new to the world of showing you can quickly become discouraged by the "closed society" that the dog showing world often is. I started showing this year armed with only the advice of an experienced exhibitor, a handful of showmanship classes and this book. Of the three I would say that this book was the most comprehensive and useful resource. You should still seek out an experienced mentor--someone familiar with prepping and showing your breed...but barring any other input this book WILL get you started. It can't help you with breed specifics, but I found it TREMENDOUSLY informative on the little details for giving your best "presentation" in the ring. Everything from how to hold your leash to how to dress is covered. Yes, that would be redundant for an experienced exhibitor....however even those with YEARS of experience in ANYTHING can always learn something new. Even if you only pick up one tiny tip that helps in the ring it's a worthwhile read!!
I will be looking to other books for more advanced knowledge as we progress. But if you are a beginner looking for a fantastic and comprehensive one-stop-get-you-started kind of book, this is it!!
- It's about time someone with the experience of Peter Green write a book about showing dogs that doesn't avoid the topic of politics within the sport! Great tips are exposed, though he's a TERRIER man so keep that in mind if you show hounds, working, sporting, etc. It's inspiring and helpful to read.
- WOW!!! what a book up to date info and so exact .
excellent techniches and stape by stape on how to.
you feel like you are in the show ring and when you put the book down you want to put the show lead on your dog to practice...very helpfull and inspirering.
- Starting my second show dog's career, after blundering my way through with my first one, Peter Green and Mario Migliorini gave me excellent tips and strategies to make the handler pay more attention to his/her job. I love the section on stacking - wonderful photos to show the sublties that beginners don't see. An excellent book for someone with the basic knowledge already down who wants to take their showing to the next level.
- This book would be helpful for anyone beginning showing dogs. They really needn't know anything. If you already know what a show is, how to enter and have been in the ring before, you're probably not going to get much out of this. I have a few books on showing that far outwiegh this one. It's basic, simple and for complete novices only...It is written well, and is easy to understand. If this is to be your first book on dog showing, then it will provide you with enough info to get you started. I preferred, The Winning Edge: Show Ring Secrets (Howell Reference Books) and Tricks of the Trade: From Best Intentions to Best in Show, Revised Edition

2 comments about Puggle (Designer Dog).
- This book is a easy read that would be great for giving a holistic idea of the history of the Puggle, standard puppy raising, and what to expect. It's not the definitive Puggle book out there but it's a great place to start to decide if a Puggle is the right dog for you and your family. Great cute pictures! I love my Puggle and I'm sure you will too!
- I've been very interested in Puggles for years, and finally got one of my own late last year. I bought everything I could find on this hybrid breed, making sure I knew everything about them. Most of the information in this book I was already aware of, but I have been researching for awhile. If you are not too familar with puggles and would like to learn a lot, purchase this book!

5 comments about Living with Dogs: Collections and Traditions, At Home and Afield.
- I am the devoted owner of a gorgeous white sheepdog with blue blue eyes (with eyelashes no less..) and I just had to have this book. I adore Carolyne Roehm and the chapter on her homes and dogs were an added reason for me to own this one. I highly recommend this one for a gift.
- I loved this book. The beautiful photos were a delight and the stories heart-warming. Every dog lover would love to have this book on their cocktail table!
- I have read several other books with the same theme, however this book surpasses them all. Our copy is well loved and our guests tend to migrate toward it at our home. The book contains the stories of several people and how dogs have touched their lives. It is a glimpse into personal collections of avid dog lovers and collectors.
- I am an avid collector of dog memorabilia and motif items and this book was an inspiration! My husband just thought I was obsessive about dog objects! Your book gave me new ideas for old dog items that I never would have thought of. The photography is beautiful and the subjects are warm and true. I know that I am not alone in my endeavor to collect and display what I love!
- I've always had an affinity for dogs and the people who love them, which is probably why this book now occupies the premier spot on my coffee table. After reading the introduction by Larry Sheehan, in which he shares hilarious and endearing tales about his dog, Buster, I knew I'd found someone who truly understood what it means to live with and love dogs. Even bad ones. The book is a celebration of hardcore dog enthusiasm. It's fun to learn about other people's passion for various breeds. What's more, the pages are filled with pictures of beautiful dogs, beautiful homes, and beautiful places. I got tons of inspiration for decorating my home and incorporating my love of dogs into my life. This book would make a wonderful gift.

5 comments about The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Dogs and Cats: Over 1,000 Solutions to Your Pet's Problems-From Top Vets, Trainers, Breeders and Other Animal Experts.
- A lot of what's in this book isn't very helpful. The remedies are all pretty basic and not very well explained on why you would do them. I work w/ animals and wouldn't recommend this book to any of the owners we see.
- This book is a small but informative review of symptoms that can alarm a pet owner. The organization of the book allows for quick location of a problem. It also covers behaviors such as toilet training and chewing/teething and subjects like grooming. Altogether, this is a must have book if you are caring for a pet. It will answer many questions and offer helpful tips so that you can be the best pet-parent possible.
- I am very thankful to all of the vets and animal behaviorists who contributed to this book. I use it a LOT. From everything to stomach problems to aches and pains to....whatever the problem is. This book covers it from A to Z.
If you love your dog or cat, and don't have the money to go to the vet for every problem that pops up, this book is a godsend. It also offers alternative medicines that actually are better for your pet.
I just simply cannot get along without my copy of "Home Remedies for Dogs and Cats".
- I loved this book so much that I bought it for several friends. I only have dogs, so I cannot offer an opinion on the cat advice. For dog owners, it is an excellent resource with so many different things.
- LOVE IT, with fur babies, one needs some help, and this book is GREAT
