1 comments about 2002 Handbook of United States Coins: With Premium List (Handbook of United States Coins).
- I recommend this book greatly. I'm only 13 and a beginner at coin collecting. This book helped me find out how much my coins are worth. It tells how coins are made, what the ratings mean and gives lots of pictures of the many varieties of coins in the book. A book for all ages.

1 comments about The Official Blackbook Price Guide to World Coins 2008, Edition #11 (Official Price Guide to World Coins).
- Offers a quick way to get a coin value in an easy to read format. IT does not provide instruction on grading coins for the novice, so get an additional book if you want further instruction on that.

- I REALLY LIKE THE MAGGIE THORSEN BOOKS. THE CHARACTERS ARE VERY REAL AND LIKEABLE. LOOK FORWARD TO READING MORE OF THESE BOOKS. THE FACT THAT THEY TAKE PLACE IN A SMALL TOWN WITH A COFFEE SHOP IS UNIQUE, TOO. MOST OF THE COFFEE SHOP BOOKS ARE SET IN LARGE TOWNS WITH INTERESTING FOLKS, TOO.

2 comments about Early Hellenistic Coinage from the Accession of Alexander to the Peace of Apamaea (336-188 B.C.).
- This is an outstanding book, in terms of both photography, and the history it presents. The book has photography of some of the most beautiful, and highly rare Greek coins; including some of the most elusive of the Hellenistic portraiture. I would highly recommend this book to any Greek collector or history buff.
- Currently the most comprehensive and up-to-date review of the coinages produced by the heirs of Alexander the Great. Covers all major eastern dynasties (Ptolemies, Seleucids, Attalids, etc) down to the Roman triumph at Apamea in 188 BCE. Includes 45 pages of plates illustrating over 600 coins.
Contents: - General Features of the Coinage - Alexander and the Diadochi 336-c.280 - The Balance of Power: Eastern Hellenism c.280-188 - Epilogue

1 comments about The Early Dated Coins of Europe 1234-1500.
- Early dated coin collectors such as myself finally have reason to cheer. For decades the only similar work has been Frey's "Dated European Coinage Prior to 1501". Levinson's new book on the subject blows Frey completely out of the water and makes it obsolete. Correcting the errors and removing the duplicates in that work, Bob Levinson's 15 year effort in gathering information and writing expands the number of coins catalogued and described to over 1,000 distinct types and numerous more subtypes and variants. The difference in organization and the increase in scope are startling to anyone familiar with Frey's work or its occasionally revised editions. Levinson adds legend transcriptions, weight info, catalogue references, and an estimate of rarity to each type listed. Additional sections and appendices after the main catalogue are as follows: An overview describing the location and brief history of early dated issuing cities and realms, with maps of the areas drafted by myself specifically for the book, a listing of all early dated issuing states and mints, legend translations, the patron saints appearing on the coins, a photo glossary, a list of a listing of the errors in Frey, early anno domini coins from the Crusader States, plus an extensive bibliography. Included in the back is a small pamphlet giving a rough price guide for the coins, rough because some of these coins are off the market for years at a time and gauging their values is difficult at best. Perhaps most wonderful of all are the literally hundreds and hundreds of photos and line drawings of nearly all these fascinating coins, many probably never seen before, so that if nothing else you can admire some of the rarest coins in the world. Many are unique or are known from only a handful of examples that exist only in museums.
If early dated coinage is an interest, there is no other way to put it than to say you MUST own this book. There will be no reason to keep Frey except as a curio.
