2 comments about Lincoln Memorial Cents: Collection 1959 to 1998 (Official Whitman Coin Folder).
- I've practically collected coins since I was born. Since pennies don't have much purchasing power anymore (you can't even get a piece of gum for a penny!) and are numerous this is probably the best one to start with.
This one isn't as easy as it looks to complete. You have to find several varities of pennies made in 1982. Also, the "S" mintmark coins from 1968-1974 are a challenge. And the pennies from the early Lincoln Memorial days--the 1959 and early 1960s--aren't as numerous as they used to be. Nevertheless, this will provide one with a nice challenge that will eventually grow to encompass nickels and other denominations.
- Over the past two years I have purchased about ten Lincoln Penny folders. To fill them we save pennys and sometimes at the bank I will buy rolls of pennys for fifty cents each. My grandchildren and I spend hours searching these coins for the correct dates. They learn to identify numbers, mint marks, and I read to them about President Abraham Lincoln, who is featured on the Lincoln penny. These coin books are gifts that are never thrown away. Sometimes I wonder just how much a Wheat Penny book would be worth if my Grandparents had filled one in for me....

2 comments about The Official Blackbook Price Guide to U.S. Paper Money 2008, 40th Edition (Official Blackbook Price Guide to United States Paper Money).
- As an auctioneer i use this to assist me grading currency for upcoming public auctions. I want to know what everything is worth before I sell it. This book is easy to use and is accurate in its valuations and methods for obtaining valuations based upon accepted grading standards. I do wish they would include more on local currency issued by local banks many years ago. I know that these items are worth more in their home areas than others, but guidelines for these would be a great addition to this book. I do find this book to be invaluable other than that and understand that it would be impossible to put all locally issued notes in such a publication. All in all......it is a great asset to my business
- An excellent guide book For identifying and pricing U.S. paper money. Whether it be large or small, you can find it all in this publication.
The broadest spectrum of denomenations, types, series, districts and conditions of notes is represented here. I consider it an excellent reference source.

1 comments about Warman's Coins & Paper Money: Identification and Price Guide (Warman's Coins and Paper Money).
- Allen Berman's Warman's Coins & Paper Money covers both ancient and modern coins, art medals, bank checks, and commemoratives under one cover. Explanations of grades is quite handy but it's the wider-ranging coverage of this guide which sets it apart and will make it appealing for avid and dedicated collections of all kinds of money.

2 comments about Ancient Coin Collecting VI: Non-Classical Cultures.
- As the author states, this is not meant to be a comprehensive volume. The field of ancient coins from non-classical cultures is so wide, that I think it is wonderful that someone took the time to assemble an overview that helps the beginner to start recognizing types, and then points them in the right direction. This is especially useful in a field where references for very narrow segment of the coinage are hard to find, and most often very expensive. I myself have invested in a book or two that sounded as if it would carry my field of interest--only to leave me out in the cold, with a very empty wallet!
I only wish that Wayne Sayles could continue this series to cover coinage from India, Ceylon/Sri Lanka, and Asia as well. An excellent book for those new to the field, or looking to expand their ancient coin collecting interests outside the Classical World.
- I have bought and read almost all of the books in this series and definitely this is the one that satisfied me the least. In trying to squeeze too many cultures living in too broad of a time frame in just one regular sized book, the reader is just confused on the relation between the choices of cultures displayed. Most of the individual sections are just too short to show the coinage and much less the history of these peoples. One should approach this book as a long, long magazine article that presents some non classical cultures and just that. It is not even a book, as the others in the series are, that entices you to look deeper into the bibliography and that at least gives you the 'big picture'. This book only succeeds in confusing and making the coinage of those already almost unknown cultures a little bit more obscure.

1 comments about United States Pattern Coins: Experimental and Trial Pieces.
- It would appear that the idea behind this valuable reference guide was that it become a mainstay of study in this in-depth and exotic world of United States pattern, experimental and trial strike pieces, and it looks like that idea has been fulfilled. I would also add that with this fairly new research guide, there is more information available to interested coin collectors in this realm than ever before. Up until now there was Adams and Woodin, Judd, Pollack and now this reference book, one which is quite essential to anyone attempting to build a library in which to study this most interesting area of Numismatics. As a professional coin dealer I strongly recommend the aquisition of this great reference book to all who are interested in this area of US coinage.
