4 comments about Cats' Letters to Santa.

  1. Great book for any cat lover

author of "Hobo Finds A Home"

  2. Hello, this is Kiril's feline Boon Companion NIKITA, and I have a few things to say about this book which I read after Daddy finished it:

He loved it, of course. Laughed until he cried, he did. ( That's why this gets 5 stars, afterall )

    Me?

It's amusing, I grant you, BUT...

I think some of my fellow Cats clearly have issues, and I'm talking about far more than just an unhealthy belief in a fat, bearded, human in a red suit bearing "Gifts".

Read this book, and laugh if you must, but see if you don't agree with me as well. ( I give it a 3 1/2 Purrs )

  3. And that's all that Cats' Letters to Santa is, a gimmick. Since Bill Adler, who "compiled and edited" the anthology of kitty wishes, neglects to reveal his source, this reader thinks it was Adler's own fertile and silly imagination. Paul Bacon supplies some nice illustrations. A perfect seasonal gift for the cat owning/loving friend and/or relative.

  4. A great deal of children write letters to Santa Claus. Well, now the cats are getting involved. They ask Santa what they want for Christmas. Some complain that they need a new computer because theirs is ruined because they thought the mouse was a toy. Others ask for the dog to be removed from the house. Cute!

5 comments about The Cat Who Went To Paris.

  1. If you have ever loved a cat, this is the book for you! Norton was definitely one of a kind, and you will be charmed by his adventures. I gave away my first copy of this book and had to buy another so I could reread it! Norton definitely stole my heart!

  2. Gethers is no Cleveland Amory, and readers who have savored Amory's wonderful CAT WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS will be a little disappointed with this book. The chief problem, for me, is Gethers as a person, not as a writer. He doesn't come off as someone I would like to know. That said, you who travel with your animal companions will be amused and impressed by the way Gethers and the feline Norton gad about. I used to travel around this continent in a van with my cats, and camp or visit cat loving friends - challenge enough! For the seven or so years reported in this book Norton has joined his dad on planes, trains, automobiles, ferries, subways, cross country skis and hikes. He is a seasoned and recognized traveller aboard the Concorde, a pampered favorite in Parisian hotels, a local celebrity on Fire Island, and an office cat in Manhattan. Jet setters take note: 1. always include two folding cardboard cat boxes and two five pound bags of litter in your carry-ons. (One box for the rental car and one for the hotel room.) 2.Paris restaurants not only permit, but encourage the inclusion of well-mannered pets in your dinner group. 3. The rich are not different, they are only annoyingly more so.

  3. I found this book at the library yesterday - I'm halfway thru the book. It is hysterical!!! I'm laughing every other page!! This author has a great sense of humor and an excellent writer :) His cat Norton must have been a real sweetie - a Scottish Fold. I've decided to buy myself a copy AND will be buying a copy for 2 of my cat loving friends for Christmas. A great upbeat read! :)

  4. Norton is just the sweetest little Scottish Fold kitten one could ever hope to meet. His folded ears, gentle disposition and loyalty to his owner, Peter Gethers, will astound you. Norton has a puss-in-ality extraordinaire. He trots obediently five steps behind his owner to the market, on the beach, and to visit friends. In a car, he sits perched atop Gethers shoulder and watches life go by. On a ferry ride, he puts his paws on the rail and follows the waves. Even Norton's father who is a confirmed "dog-lover, cat-hater" mellows up to the adorable little fellow and they become best friends. Norton even has the ability to help Gethers choose his girlfriends; some Norton likes, others he does not - and emphatically lets Gethers know which ones do not win his approval. Norton is a jet-setter. He accompanies Gethers on trans-continental flights to Paris and many other countries around the world. He dines in luxury at five-star dining establishments, sits in his own chair as if he had just graduated from the most exquisite Swiss finishing school, and enjoys his own fare specially prepared by the chef. However, according to Norton's palate, nothing tops a good can of Pounce!

No one could write a book about a cat in quite the same style and wit as Gethers. Norton is not a work of fiction; he is Gethers feline companion, soul mate and best friend. You will relish Norton's antics and adventures from start to finish. This book is an oldie but one of my all time favourites. If there were a hundred starts in the rating scale, this would shine at one hundred.

  5. Norton, is a credit to Scotish Folds. And Mr. Gethers know excatly how fortunate he is in having the most Purr-fect of friends. This a joyful read of a cat who just can't help be lovable, and who loves the people he meets. Apparently some cats do on some level know exactly what's going on.

5 comments about PetSpeak: Share Your Pet's Secret Language!.

  1. This is an excellent book for a pet owner. I have had many dogs and cats and I found the explanations for certain behaviors most helpful. Also, the explanation of various senses such as hearing, visual capacity, etc was very interesting and explains a lot of behaviors. The writing is very good and comprehensive. This is one book that I would consider giving to a pet owner for a gift.

  2. As the owner of a 50-pound terrier mix who was not trained correctly and then experienced a period of abuse and neglect, this book has been extremely influential in how I communicate with my dog, and how I recognize what my dog is communicating to me. The book was recommended to me by an excellent trainer from Las Vegas, Nevada, and I have relied on it ever since to help me recognize signs of stress and boredom in my dog, develop a more effective training program, and recognize the true causes and remedies for destructive behaviors. This book should be required reading for all pet owners. There would be many more happy pets and happy owners.

  3. Not as good as I expected, a lot of it seemed like common sense or for dog owners.

  4. As a steward for many cats and dogs my whole life, I thought I could read them very well. But "PetSpeak" opened my eyes to many things I was doing wrong, particularly in interpreting the countless nuances of their expressions and activities, and how I responded to them. Anyone who is around cats and dogs should read this. Their lives and those of their animals will be enriched.

  5. If you are a dog or cat lover you must get this!!! It is so informative and teaches you new thing for communicating with you loved ones,.... I found information that I have not known and It is also enjoyable to read and to know what your loved one means by some action,.... It is also has illustration and brought it in a humour way,... It shows for example the tail meaning of dogs and cats...why dog sometimes eat faeces, why cat wakes up so early,....their vision compare to us,.....and lots other informative thing,.... It lets you take your relationship with your pets to another level,..... It has given me a different perspective on my babies,...

2 comments about 101 Reasons to Dump Your Man and Get a Cat.

  1. A wonderful book for those in relationship or out, pet lover or not. Being a cat lover, and having read many similar types of books, I had cetain expectations. I was far more delighted than I expected while reading this book. It reads easily, but no so lightweight as to be uninteresting. Some situations were very recognizable and brought contemplative thought. I enjoyed the various levels of humor: from belly-clutching out-loud laughter, to tongue-in-cheek giggles to simple smiles. For me, while reading it, I always had a smile, even as I reached over to ruffle my husband's hair as I pushed him over to make room for Munice, my Maine Coon cat. If you need some comic relief in your life, I recommend you read this book 101 Reasons to Dump Your Man and Get a Cat and find the reasons that might have you heading to the animal shelter or cattery.

5 comments about Garfield Says a Mouthful (Garfield (Numbered Paperback)).

  1. The Garfield comic strip about a male loser who owns a fat cat and an ignorant, slobbery dog strikes a responsive chord in cat owners everywhere. It is not because they identify with a man who cannot do anything right or recognize their pet dog. It is because Garfield is the exaggerated epitome of a cat whose life revolves around eating, sleeping and getting into things. I have owned approximately ten cats in my life and I recognized a bit of Garfield in every one of them. I enjoyed this book, even though the actions of his owner reach beyond the absurd.

  2. Unfortunatly, this was actually when Garfield books were starting to fall a bit flat on ideas and the 1990's books weren't as good compared to the mid to late 1980's books but this book is still very funny, but overall if you're a Garfield fan, this book is highly recommended.

  3. "Garfield Says a Mouthful, No 21" wasn't the funniest Garfield book I've read, but it's still entertaining. I nice addition to a collection and a must for Garfield fans. I recommend.

  4. Everybody out there keep buying Garfield books! They can be worth a lot of money someday and can become collector's items! I'm always going to keep all of mine so when I have kids they can read them!

  5. Out of all the Garfield books I think I liked this one the most. But still I give all of them 5 big gold stars! -Kacey 5th grade

1 comments about Guide to Owning a Siamese Cat (Guide to Owning).

  1. While I find this book enjoyable because it is about my favorite breed, I feel that a lot more photos of the different point colors could have been included. Also, a little more information on the different "types" of Siamese, such as applehead, classic, or wedge would have been interesting. The author implies that exhibitors are breeding problems within the breed by breeding for a "wedge" type, but neglects to say what type of problems and I came away with the impression that she does not approve of the show standard for Siamese. Several good photos of show type Siamese are included however. Overall it is a good book which perhaps just needs to be updated.

5 comments about The Guide to Owning a Cornish Rex Cat (RE 418).

  1. I was given this book as a gift in preparation for my new Cornish Rex kitten. I found it very informative. The author only confirmed my interest in having one of these incredible cats with personality plus++. The most important fact, for me, was her discussion of this breed's low tolerance to the pre-anesthetic, Ketamine. For the "pet quality" owner who will be spaying or neutering their Rex, this is certainly an important topic to discuss pre-operatively with your veterinarian.

  2. Greta's book is great. It is extremely informative. This is a great book for people with Cornishes in their family or ones who want to have one in their family. I learned so much more about my cat since I got her book. Excellent photos! A++++

  3. when i first got my two cornish rex, i read all that i could find on the cornish rex breed, and i discovered that there were no comprehensive books on them. i really needed some tips + how-to's specific to rexes. fortunately, greta's book provides that. the text is informative and easy to read, as well as entertaining. thanks, greta! from one owner who's happier + a little more confident in her cat care now.

  4. This book is a wonderful reference for the Cornish Rex owner (really someone owned by a Cornish Rex!) or for people considering taking one of these balls of energy and loving, non-stop attention into their lives. These cats are a little different... and Greta Huls takes you through background, grooming, feeding, healthcare and breed standards in a very interesting, straightforward and informative way. For instance, the information on the breed's intolerance to pre-op drugs is invaluable and possibly a lifesaver. In addition, the wonderful photographs perfectly illustrate the Cornish Rex's beauty and character.

  5. As a devoted breeder of this wonderful breed of cats, I can wholeheartly recommend Greta's new book. She did her homework quite well and picked many breeders brains to come up with a great finished product. And a very much needed book for this breed. A+++++++++

  1. More amusing practical tips. This man is quite ingenious in coming up
with sensible and not so sensible things to do with the stray corpus
felinus that you might have lying around, or are thinking of producing.

Really very funny, indeed. Worth a look for a chuckle.

  2. A continuation of his first book. His ideas are so stupid, that they are funny. A book for cat haters and lovers.
