5 comments about Garfield Hogs the Spotlight: His 36th Book (Garfield (Numbered Paperback)).

  1. All this book is, is a collection of the daily comic from the last book with very little new material. I don't think they've created any new material for this strip sense Liz and John ended up together.

  2. There is no other way to say it. Garfield is always funny, no matter which book it is. I love them all. They are always good for a laugh.

  3. I'd like to say that Jim Davis is a great comic drawer it's the only comic i read!I even love this book Garfield hogs the spotlight! Thanks Jim Davis for these great comics!!!!

  4. I am a huge fan of Garfield now but I have only been so for a few years. I really liked this book because it was really funny. I especially liked the strips with Nermal, and they were really good in this book. I think this book is the best one I own.

  5. This was a very funny book as are all the rest of the Garfield books. I like all of the characters. Jim Davis is the greatest cartoonist of all time! Congragulations Garfield Rules reviewer on writing all of those good reviews.

1 comments about Cat-titudes to Live By.

  1. I love cats and I love Rachael Hale's photography, so this was a perfect match! Each page has a lovely color photograph of cats or kittens accompanied by one word and an appropriate quote. For example, there's a photograph of a cat with a mouse sitting atop it's head and the companion word is "Trust." "The supreme happiness in life is the conviction that we are loved," stated by Victor Hugo. The word "Success" is side-by-side with a photo of a cat sporting large eyeglasses. "Forget about all the reaons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will," by Dr. Robert Anthony.

In short, if you need a little inspiration and a smile, this is the book for you.

  1. This is a really cute book with beautiful pictures. I like the quotes that have been included as well.

  2. This book is filled with beautiful pictures that any one would enjoy. I bought it for myself, but my mother ended up with it. The photographs are amazing.

  3. If you love cats as much as I, you will NOT be disappointed. This book is full of wonderful photos of cats and kittens. Rachael Hale has a real gift. This makes a great coffee table book that you'll page through again and again.
    Enjoy! Kathi Brunelle

  4. Beautiful photography of gorgeous cats and kittens. In the back of the book it tells a little about each cat and how picture was taken.

  5. I bought this book and 101 Salivations for my mom for Christmas. She loves both of them and looks through them regularly.

1 comments about Color Atlas of Small Animal Anatomy: The Essentials.

  1. Any college-level library specializing in veterinary medicine will find plenty of detail and introductory material in Color Atlas of Small Animal Anatomy: The Essentials. Here's an oblong book packing in anatomical drawings and cut-aways of dogs, cats and rodents commonly kept as pets: chapters provide topographic relationships of major organs and are in full color for excellent reference. A basic 'must' for any small animal vet collection.

3 comments about Complete Care For Your Aging Cat.

  1. I highly recommend this wonderful book for owners of adult cats of any age. The information is very well presented, complete, and useful to any cat owner. I would definitely recommend that a cat owner have this knowledge BEFORE their cat is old so they can be informed and prepared what to look for in their cat and get proper supportive care before the cat is too ill.

I also think it's fascinating to know that there are certain conditions found in specific breeds. This would help anyone who would want to acquire a cat in the future to be informed about everything they would need to know about the breed they're considering.

Huge kudos to Amy Shojai for writing "Caring For Your Aging Cat."

  2. Cats are living longer and there's more advanced care available for them. This book clearly talks about all the issues related to the older cat. It has something for everyone in that it give details about complicated information (such as cellular aging) which will be read with interest by those who have some knowledge about cats....but it also explaine things in simpler language for the lay-person.

This book is a must read for all people who cherish their cats and want to make their cats' golden years more comfortable.

  3. Amy Shojai has written perhaps her best work with this book--a touching, caring, hopeful tribute to the aging pet. We who are pet lovers have to face that there will be an end to our beloved pets' lives, but Shojai's book combines practical advice and emotional support to help ensure your aging cat lives out the rest of her days in comfort and happiness. Including chapters on nutrition, exercise, play, and that last sad choice we are sometimes forced to make--euthanasia--Complete Care for Your Aging Cat is a vital addition to any pet lover's bookshelf.

Amy Shojai is an author with a heart, as well as a brain. Her books reflect her love and passion for the animals in our lives, while giving us the advice we need to keep them healthy and happy.

5 comments about Finders Seekers (Ghatti's Tale).

  1. I, a 16 year old, have loved this book since I first read it several years ago. Greeno's characters are expertly developed, and she has many very original ideas. The whole world that the story is set in, for instance, is well-thought-out and seems so real that you could actually go there, while still feeling very different from the world we live in.
The plot is also intriguing, making you want to keep reading, and I love that at the end, you get resolution. The author doesn't leave you hanging at the end, just because it's the first book in a trilogy. The story wraps up nicely, while still making you want to read the next book.
Overall, this is a wonderful book that I would recommend to cat-lovers and sci-fi/fantasy lovers alike.

  2. I just indulged myself and re-read this entire first trilogy by Gayle Greeno. I loved the books when I read them a decade ago, and I loved them again today.

The premise sounds a little bit like it'll appeal only to 14-year-old girls. Telepathic cats? Give me a break. What's next, horses with eyelashes? (Oh. Right. That one's been done.) But truly, Greeno takes a lightweight sounding concept and does an outstanding job with it. Ghatti, 30-40 pound cats (or rather catlike aliens, but you'll recognize them as cats) can bond with humans and thereafter share their thoughts. Ghatti have a useful and reliable attribute: they can recognize when someone is lying. That makes them awfully useful as part of a judging team, so Bonds travel around the countryside trying cases.

What makes this series work is that Greeno does an excellent job of world building. Humans settled the planet a few hundred years ago, but the scientific devices interacted badly with the native earth; that is, they blew up, and took a lot of colonists with 'em. Some escaped in the remaining starships, but the story starts with the population of the survivors. Who, 187 years ago, were discovered by the ghatti.

The tale telling is excellent, the characterization is believeable, and the ghatti are a marvelous mishmash of "what you KNEW your cat was thinking" and wise observation (with a fondness for smoked fish).

The "aww, telepathic cats" aspect might make you think this is a book series suitable for young adults. It deals with adult subjects, though, so I wouldn't give it to someone under the age of 12, maybe 14.

Instead, keep it to yourself. It's really a wonderful trilogy.

  3. I found this book accidentally looking for something else, but it had a huge cat on the front, so obviously I bought it. I thought it was a wonderful book! It has a great plot and isn't one of those trilogy books that leaves you hanging at the end. This is a book that I'd strongly recommend you buy the entire trilogy all at once though, because you will definitely want to start the second book as soon as this one is finished!!

  4. Drawing you in from the very start, this book is difficult to put down. Don't forget to get the next two in this set. After I had finished this one, I just had to get the rest. Cat lovers will love to get their hands on this, but I don't believe you have to love cats to enjoy this book.

  5. Fantasy fans and especially cat lovers won't want to miss this wonderful series set on the world of Methuen, where justice is maintained by "Seekers": humans lifebonded to a sentient feline species. Seeker Doyce tries to overcome dreadful loss with her Bondmate Khar, but danger dogs her steps as a sinister figure from her tragic past threatens not only Doyce's future but that of the Seekers. MEOW! Destined to thrill!

5 comments about Persian Cats (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).

  1. You probably already know more about Persians than the book writer himself.
    Disappointing.
Better to spend more and really Learn about Persian cats.

  2. This new edition is much more user friendly! It's filled with great information on Persians, like what specific combs and brushes to use. How to give a bottom bath. The lion cut. Not much on genetics, other than genetic disorders, since you can get that anywhere.. And the description of a show hall is right on! And things anyone can use like introducing a new kitten, breaking bad litter pan habits.

  3. Having recently purchased a Persian I thought this book would be a great place to start - how wrong I was! Only 2 pages dedicated to their behaviour and understanding them so not much use at all to me really. Also it is important to note that (apparently) European Persians have a tendency to have very different personalities to US ones, also in the US Persians are less likely to be 'extreme' (i.e. flat faced).

No information at all on special the dietry requirements of a Persian(in the UK, premium foods such as Hills, Jameswellbeloved etc are recommended by the experts, but no mention of this in book).

Lots of breeder information which is great if you want to breed but it only relates to the USA. Probably a book worth 2 out of 5 in you live in the states, but for UK or European readers i'd give this book a miss.

  4. All the information in there I can find it in a cats magazine. VERY basic information and quite obvious.

  5. I bought the book looking for specific information about Persians. What I got was a little information about Persians and a lot of information about cats in general. I guess if I were interested in breeding or showing, this might be the book to buy, but for a simple cat fancier, it doesn't do it for me.

4 comments about The Stray Cat Handbook (Howell Reference Books).

  1. Ms. Kreuz's book is truly the textbook for all things feral cat-related. The book even contains some extremely useful information for anyone considering starting their own cat rescue organization or for the average person just wondering what they can do to help that scrawny stray without getting an arm clawed off in the process. Well-written, clear, and concise- I can't recommend this book enough to anyone interested in feline welfare.

  2. This is an excellent resource for anyone with an interest in helping stray cats. Using advice I garnered primarily from this book and my vet, I turned a wounded stray cat into a contented house cat.

  3. I heard this author was on TV after winning a special award because of its concise and well written content.

  4. This book gives a clear cut, no nonsense, help for those of us with many stray and feral cats in our neighborhoods. As the preface states: "it is a definite how to guide for helping the millions of stray and feral cats currently living outdoors."

5 comments about How to Massage Your Cat.

  1. A quick read, and very funny, if you have the right sense of humor. There is no real cruelty to animals being portrayed in this book, and the nonplussed look of the cat through the entire thing is priceless.

  2. I like this book and it's very funny, but the title is misleading. It's a collection of tongue-in-cheek illustrations, but not only do they not teach you how to massage your cat, they would actually be physically damaging (like "pull your cat's arms out to the side and give a sharp tug"). I could recommend the book, but buy it ONLY as a joke, and then also buy one of the many other books on the market that really do teach you how to massage your cat.

  3. I first got this book about 30 years ago, when I was a teenager. It made me laugh so hard then that it brought me to tears. Every few years I pull it out to share with someone and it STILL makes me cry with laughter. I'm sorry to find that some people have the opposite reaction. To me, it's hard to understand. I love my cat and know this book isn't meant seriously. It's a deliciously ridiculous 'how-to'. I will always love it.

  4. I didn't find this book all that funny, but then, that's just me. I'm sure any potential buyer can get the gist of what the book's about from reading these reviews, so if this sounds like it's up your alley then go for it.

I do think it's silly to claim anyone who doesn't like this book is an idiot. The images do depict an animal being hurt - certain people will never like seeing pictures of that, even if they know it's a joke. So some people are turned off by violent images in general and others don't mind as long as it's all clearly in absurd good fun - that doesn't mean one group has no sense of humor, or that those who are not bothered by the images can't enjoy the book.

  5. My family owned this book 25 years ago and I thought it would be out of print... everyone loves it, from kids to elders.
