5 comments about The Goldsteins' Wellness & Longevity Program.

  1. It does talks about natural ways to take care of your pets but almost every health problems can be fixed by one of the products Dr. Goldstein sells in his nautre pet store. It makes you wonder if he trys to sell you his products through the book.

  2. This is one of the most helpful books that I've read on the subject of feline health and nutrition. I'm not one of those foo-fu, holistic, health nuts, who would try to feed organic granola to my cat, but having recently lost a twenty-three year-old feline friend to cancer, I have become far more conscious of what goes into my cats' bodies. While I might make the wrong choices for myself, my cats are depending on my to make the right choices for them, and the Goldsteins, through their book, have given me a lot to think about, much of which I've already implemented.

  3. This is by far one of the best books on holistic health for animals. It is easy to read and understand, and it covers alot of information. Well worth the investment.

  4. I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend and I was not disappointed. This book gives you an overview of many different medical problems that your pet may encounter. Then they break it down into what the Vet will recommend, followed by what other things you can do to treat the pet holistically, either as an accompaniment to the vet's recommendations, or instead of (this is your choice of course). It's very well written, easy to read and understand. Many times these types of books sound good, but are disappointing when you read them. This one is not disappointing and I honestly believe every pet owner should have this as an important reference.

  5. Holistic veterinarian of 30 years' experience Robert Goldstein and "Earth Animal" retail outlet founder Susan Goldstein present The Goldsteins' Wellness & Longevity Program: Natural Care For Dogs And Cats, an integrative health book that bring together the best of holistic and conventional veterinary practices for readers to follow for the sake of companion animals. Designed to boost the immune system and aid in disease prevention for pets, the easy-to- follow program includes natural preventatives and healing modalities for common conditions, and guidelines for when to vaccinate and when not to (vaccination can cause pregnant animals may reject their unborn litters; anesthetized animals may vomit and choke). The Gold-steins' Wellness & Longevity Program cannot replace the diagnosis, advice, or care of a veterinarian, but it is packed cover to cover with tips for naturally preserving and prolonging animal health.

3 comments about 50 Games to Play With Your Cat.

  1. We gave this to my 10yo daughter for Christmas. It kept her very busy over break coming up with new and creative ways to entertain our kitty.

  2. I've always said that cats are more likely to play with the box it came in rather than the toy inside. Therefore, when I was asked to write the forward for this book, I was interested and excited. As the text and photos came to me, it became apparent that this book was going to be all I'd hoped for. It's a fun read, and I encourage readers to put their imaginations to work and add their own embellishments to the projects. In closing, I'd like to say that in fairness to Jackie Strachan, my name should not appear anywhere on Amazon as "co-author" of this book. It's Jackie's through and through and she deserves full credit. All I am is an admirer and forward-writer of the book.

  3. My boss--er, cat--would give this book two thumbs up . . . if he could!

The ideas are divided into sections, beginning with simple toys (such as a crumpled up piece of paper), and going into more elaborate toys made from cardboard.

The book would get five stars *if* some of the toys weren't store-bought, such as: a toy glove, a ball that drops a treat when played with, circle ball track, a cloth tube/tunnel, scratching post, cat tree . . . you get the idea! These are toys/games you can find out about just by looking at the pet store, and some are pricey.

However, overall, the book should provide inspiration and mostly (with some exceptions) low-cost, homemade ideas. Both cat and owner will mutually benefit from playing these games together. It's about time someone realized cats aren't aloof and do really want to interact with us . . . thank you, t.f.h!

5 comments about The New Encyclopedia of the Cat.

  1. I purchased this book for a cat-loving friend. However, I nearly kept it for myself once I pursued through it. It's now one of the books I will eventually get for myself. Can't think of one of my cat friends that wouldn't love this book.

  2. I thought the book was very good. It was filled with great photographs
of many breeds of cats, most never heard of, and lots of illustrations on
the anatomy of the cat. There is a section on health, nutrition, care and behavior. There is so much more to this book. My only disappointment
was in the lack of material on the Big Cats. There are some beautiful photographs of them though. I ordered The Last of the Big Cats and that took care of my inquisitive mind. If you are a cat lover, this New Encyclopedia for the Cat is just what you need.

  3. I JUST GOT THIS BOOK TODAY AND IT IS AWESOME!!!! THERE ARE SOOO MANY WONDERFUL COLOR PHOTOS OF ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF CATS. I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WOULD BE NICE BUT IT IS EVEN BETTER & MORE COMPREHENSIVE THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. THIS IS A LOVELY REFERENCE AND/OR COFFEE TABLE BOOK THAT IS ALSO VERY, VERY! INFORMATIVE. IF YOU LOVE CATS LIKE I DO YOU SHOULD REALLY GET THIS BOOK. IT COVERS SO MANY DIFFERENT BREEDS OF CATS AND SO MANY DIFFERENT TOPICS IT IS JUST WONDERFUL. IT'S LIKE THE BIBLE FOR CAT OWNERS. AND IT IS JUST SO LOVELY!!!!!! 5++++++ STARS. I LOVE IT!!!!

  4. A rather extensive look at the origins and development of the Domestic feline. Includes most (I'm not a cat expert) common varieties and breeds of all cats.

  5. Everything you want to know about cats in a highly readable and informative book that my daughters love to read. Certainly the best book I've read about cats in a long time.

2 comments about The Healing Touch for Cats: The Proven Massage Program for Cats, Revised Edition.

  1. I bought this book because I have two ill, elderly cats, and want to do more for them than shove pills down their throats. Although I was already intuitively doing a lot of what's described in this book, it does provide some new options for me. I gave it only a 4 because a lot of the information wasn't new to me. For someone newer to being the servant of cats, this is an EXCELLENT resource (probably a 5 star book) for learning how to interact physically with your cats, and what you learn in this book will bring both of you loads of good times and pleasure, as well as mutual healing.

  2. A sensitively and clearly written, well illustrated and very thorough guide to therapeutic cat massage. The author combines professional expertise as a vet and a masseur with a profound understanding of - and respect for - animals.

1 comments about Stories About Cats and the Lives They Touch.

  1. These stories touch my heart because cats are so close to my heart. I have nine cats in my home and they are such a huge part of my life. I can hardly wait to get home each day and see how they are doing and what little tricks they have to share with me. They are all so unique and each one has a precious personality.
Thank you so much for this great, heart-warming book! I received it as my birthday gift from my sister.

5 comments about The Cat Whisperer: The Secret of How to Talk to Your Cat.

  1. I have been looking for a book to help understand normal cat behavior for a while and this is the first one that comes close to being useful. The writing style is very good and it makes for an enjoyable read. The author obviously loves cats and I felt she was approaching her subject with great kindness.

Even though I am a cat lover, the details given in the book about what makes cats "tick" seemed just about right for a layperson and really did help me see my cat in a new, better way.

For anyone just curious about what their cat is up to, this would make a nice resource for them I highly recommend it.

  2. I just brought home my first cat in 20 years, and find this book an excellent primer in getting to know this little creature & appreciate it as a friend. The book is identical to her other book titled "How to Talk to Your Cat", so no need to buy both. The book is not written in an 'owner manual' style, but rather as a long essay where the author dispenses her sage advice. All the author is doing in this book is tying together modern theory to explain what a cat is, & why it does what it does, so we can better appreciate it & have more fruitful interactions with it. Some people may prefer a more systematic & technical approach; it is all personal preference. But I agree, the title is very misleading & a slick marketing ploy.

  3. This book is one of the best I have seen on cat behavior and psychology. It is very in depth and easy to read. I recommend this to all users who want to get to know their cats better!

  4. Aside from the catchy title, I found little of use in this book that supposedly deals with cat communication. Any 'tasty morsels' were far and few between. Does the author even own a cat?

  5. At the beginning of this book, the author attempts to get us to understand from a cat's perspective on what it must be like to live with humans by comparing cats to Eskimos who suddenly move to the jungle. I nearly couldn't read any further. It is a distracting and unappetizing comparison with which Native people may be all too familiar.

Throughout the book, the author seems to go on and on about the relative popularity of dogs to cats. She includes far too much about dogs and their behavior characterstics in relation to people. If this were a book about cats and dogs that might have been appropriate. However, in this book, it was simply another distraction.

There are a few interesting things, but overall doesn't cover any new ground that Desmond Morris hasn't already covered.

1 comments about Color Atlas of Small Animal Anatomy: The Essentials.

  1. Any college-level library specializing in veterinary medicine will find plenty of detail and introductory material in Color Atlas of Small Animal Anatomy: The Essentials. Here's an oblong book packing in anatomical drawings and cut-aways of dogs, cats and rodents commonly kept as pets: chapters provide topographic relationships of major organs and are in full color for excellent reference. A basic 'must' for any small animal vet collection.

4 comments about A Photographic Atlas of the Human Body: With Selected Cat, Sheep, and Cow Dissections.

  1. I bought a used book titled "A photographic Atlas of the Human Body" by Gerard Tortora. The book looks almost new, there are no writings or creased pages. I received the book in less than a week just as guaranteed.
The book has excellent photographs and graphics.

  2. If you have the Tortora book, then you do not need this atlas. I would highly, highly recommend that you do not waste money on this atlas. Spend a few more dollars and get a copy of the Netter's atlas for students. Trying to use this atlas in my human anatomy lab/class (intro) has been nothing but annoying. Many important landmarks are overlooked and I have repeatedly had to refer to Netter's to figure out where landmarks are. Avoid this atlas and save your money and frustration.

  3. This book is a very good companion if you are using osteology blocks with pictures in black and white. Is just 32 pages and the information is limited, however the pictures are great and allow you to see the little details that escape from black and white photos in other books. Did I mention the price? Is very affordable for struggling students like me.

  4. I'm a pre-med student, and when I first heard about this book from my professor, I was a bit skeptical that it would help me or anyone that wasn't already in med school. But when I got it, it was clear and easy to follow. The pictures weren't some badly drawn figurines, or a mess of grey, unidentifiable body parts, they were real photographs of the skeleton which were, thank goodness!, easy on the eyes. I might not be in med school yet, but I'm making sure I have this book with me. As a revision and reference book, this one is the greatest!
