5 comments about How to Work Like a Cat: Walking With Confidence Through a Dog-Eat-Dog World.
- Humorous look for all humans, owned by cats. However, since cats really don't do any work, they are probably as qualified as anyone else to write on the subject of work.
- How to Work Like a Cat by Karen Wormald is a refreshing and creative look at similarities between cats and coworkers! I bought a dozen and gave them to my feline loving coworkers, neighbors, family, and even my vet!!. It was a great hit. The writing is spectacular and the pictures are worth a thousand more words!
Cathy (Boston, MA)
- Up until now, we've only seen cats in business hanging onto a bar waiting for Friday to come. Karen Wormald's book sets the record straight by shining a positive light on feline philosophy. The book is full of wit and truth--the perfect gift for an office co-worker or a cat-loving friend or family member!
When does the calendar come out? It would provide just the right decoration for my cubicle. And my dog of a boss would have to see it every day!
- Cat lovers will pounce on this insightful tale of feisty felines and crazy canines caught in the crosshairs of Corporate America, so buy Karen Wormald's book, some catnip, and a few treats, and stuff them all into a friend's holiday stocking this year!
- I'm tired of being the over-worked, enthusiastic "dog" of my company while other employees have all the time in world to flit the day away with talking sports, politics, sports, politics, sports, weather, sports...
I've actually tried some of the methods Karen recommended in her new book this past week... and IT REALLY WORKS!
Thanks Karen!

3 comments about What Vets Don't Tell You About Vaccines.
- This is an excellent reference with easy to understand explanations a lay person can readily use when taking their dogs to the vet. I wish this information would have been available when my dogs were pups. I would not have exposed them to repeated vaccines. I believe some of their current health issues are because I blindly went along with my traditional vet's recommendations. I am very glad this is in print again since it is heavily referenced in her newest book "Shock To The System" which I highly recommend!
- About ten years ago I had no idea there was any controversy regarding annual vaccinations.
I then watched the World in Action programme in which Catherine O'Driscoll was highlighting the dangers of the vaccination programme. I was shocked. I felt sure the Veterinary Establishment would prosecute her for bringing their work in to disrepute but, no - they met behind closed doors instead!
I then got her book and decided to thoroughly read it - and I was even more shocked but, at least I understood why the Veterinary Establishment didn't prosecute her: because the information in her book came from the vet's own manuals; own handbooks - hence the title: 'What Vets Don't Tell You About Vaccines'.
For anyone who really really really love their dogs, this book is a must.
In Summary:
MLV vaccines should not be given to those with B and/or T cell immunodeficiencies
MLV vaccines should not be given to those with allergies, skin disease, heart disease, neurological problems
MLV vaccines can stimulate autoimmune diseases
In addition to 'faulty genes', environmental factors can render vaccines harmful
Vaccines can overwhelm even a healthy host if negative environmental factors exist
We question the assertion that only a tiny minority of animals are affected
Vets have not been taught the full truth about vaccines.
And that says it all. A friend of mine puts it more simply:
Healthy animals don't need them,
And unhealthy ones shouldn't have them,
So no animal should get them!
- We people have a tendency to believe that anyone whom we think know more than we do, are "gods". By this definition all that we don't understand, and that people tell us, we tend to believe and honor as true...like sheep in a herd we follow the leader.
Ms O'Driscoll makes sure that NO ONE who reads this book will leave untouched by the facts she unconvers. And it is not one fact, it is one after another! One more horrifying than the other. She shows that very many of today's allergies, asthma, arthritis etc are really often due to immunization and booster vaccines. I say, this book is not only good, it is NECESSARY! It is written about dogs, but make no mistake: dogs are people too. And we have blood, heart and spleen, like any dog. We are made up with the same system and "they" push and FORCE us to inoculate or children, to actually SET THEM UP for lifelong suffering. And then they deny it. I wish everyone - even people without pets read it, and especially - I wish a book like this was written also concerning humans. This is SUCH an easy to read book, with SUCH a chocking message, and this is something we need to take our hearts today. Now. Not wait. Knowledge is power, ignorance is extremely expensive.

3 comments about Complete Care For Your Aging Cat.
- I highly recommend this wonderful book for owners of adult cats of any age. The information is very well presented, complete, and useful to any cat owner. I would definitely recommend that a cat owner have this knowledge BEFORE their cat is old so they can be informed and prepared what to look for in their cat and get proper supportive care before the cat is too ill.
I also think it's fascinating to know that there are certain conditions found in specific breeds. This would help anyone who would want to acquire a cat in the future to be informed about everything they would need to know about the breed they're considering.
Huge kudos to Amy Shojai for writing "Caring For Your Aging Cat."

- Cats are living longer and there's more advanced care available for them. This book clearly talks about all the issues related to the older cat. It has something for everyone in that it give details about complicated information (such as cellular aging) which will be read with interest by those who have some knowledge about cats....but it also explaine things in simpler language for the lay-person.
This book is a must read for all people who cherish their cats and want to make their cats' golden years more comfortable.
- Amy Shojai has written perhaps her best work with this book--a touching, caring, hopeful tribute to the aging pet. We who are pet lovers have to face that there will be an end to our beloved pets' lives, but Shojai's book combines practical advice and emotional support to help ensure your aging cat lives out the rest of her days in comfort and happiness. Including chapters on nutrition, exercise, play, and that last sad choice we are sometimes forced to make--euthanasia--Complete Care for Your Aging Cat is a vital addition to any pet lover's bookshelf.
Amy Shojai is an author with a heart, as well as a brain. Her books reflect her love and passion for the animals in our lives, while giving us the advice we need to keep them healthy and happy.

1 comments about Dickens of a Cat, A: and Other Stories of the Cats We Love.
- Reviewed by Lisa Frisbie
This easy-to-read book features funny and poignant stories written by cat lovers, for cat lovers. Anyone who has been owned by a cat will recognize the many antics and the often endearing qualities of the pets described in these pages.
Editor Callie Smith Grant gathered stories from her friends and some of her favorite writers, themed around the joys and heartaches of having a cat in the house. With a forward by author H. Norman Wright, the book is a perfect choice to read by your fireplace on a chilly winter evening.
"The Cat Who Loved Chemo" is the true story of a cat who made cancer treatments more bearable for the author during an incredibly difficult struggle to survive.
"Out of the Woods" describes a cat who showed up at the doorstep one morning while the author was on a sojourn in the Cascade Mountains. The cat soon felt right at home.
These and other stories will warm the heart of any cat lover. Although currently a pet-free home (we travel too much!) I found myself missing the companionship of a cat after reading these short, well-crafted stories. Two dozen stories are here, each one written by a different cat owner; each one a loving tribute to our furry friends.
Armchair Interviews says: Cat lovers, this one is for you!

5 comments about Why Paint Cats: The Ethics of Feline Aesthetics.
- Buy this book and share with all your friends- the cat painted as a showgirl got a great laugh here at work.
- I don't know what I was expecting in this book. I had seen a couple of the pictures out of context and was intrigued by the paint jobs on these cats. My first disappointment in the book came when I opened the package and discovered just how tiny this book was. I had not paid attention to the size listed on Amazon and was very upset that the book was so tiny and the pictures so small. As I flipped through the book, the stories behind each paint job were entertaining. A good number of the paint jobs began to disturb me in their weirdness. Some of the cats were admittedly beautiful enhanced with "naturalistic" paint jobs, but others were quite humiliating and I cannot fathom why someone would want their cats painted in a humiliating way. I have not opened the book since zipping through it the first one or two times and would hesitate at recommending it to a true cat lover.
About a week after posting the above review, I found out that the cat paintings in this book were likely computer generated (check out snopes). If that is true then even the stories behind the paint jobs are a farce. Yet another reason not to bother buying this book.
- (As a cat lover) I wish my cat could look at this book. I am sure he would be entertained!! The enhancement of a beautiful animal is much appreciated. I love it when children look at this book. Their comments are wonderful.
- I bought this work on the way to a party a few years ago.. It became an instant hit. People who were shy and didnt know anyone, bored children, happy party people, everyone took a few minutes to pore through this book, talk about it to their neighbors.. and debate which cats they liked best, and what they they thought of the idea of cat painting.
A splendid, funny, thought provoking book, that will forever cahnge the way you look at cats.
- I did not notice these were miniature books only 4" by 4", you can't see any of the paintings they are too small.

5 comments about Smitten: A Kitten's Guide to Happiness.
- 'Smitten' is absolutely adorable but the two JPEGS that have been` uploaded beneath the book in the upper left-hand corner are not the professional work of Ms. Hale's. I know because I own the book. Amazon should taken them down.
- An absolute fabulous book. The pictures are amazing and the words are uplifting. A must for every cat lover!
- I got this book for myself and my daughter immediately fell in love with it and walked off with that copy but I like it so much that I bought another copy for myself that I will hide. This is a wonderful book; the pictures and the captions are incredible. A must-have for anyone that loves cats or even remotely likes kittens or cats.
- This book is one that you can flip through again and again. Not only are the kittens absolutely adorable to look at, but the photographs are so well done that it's impossible NOT acknowledge how talented Rachael Hale is. It is sure to make a great gift for anyone and everyone, no matter what the occasion is. With those precious little kitties captured in the cutest of moments, paired along with fantastic quotes leading you towards a happier life, how can you go wrong?
- -- Absolutely irresistible.
I bought this on a whim through a book club offer and am so happy I did. It is soooo wonderful. The photos aren't just *cute* but also well-shot. They have an artistic bent -- not just another cute kitties book -- and are very uplifting. The author pairs heart-melting photographs of kittens (mostly 6 weeks old) with day-brightening quotes from various authors and philosophers.
For some reason, looking at their happy little furry faces never gets old, and never fails to put a smile on my face. This is a wonderful book to get and to share with the other animal lovers in your life. :-)

5 comments about The Search for Joyful: A Mrs. Mike Novel.
- I thought the authors did a wonderful job of moving forward in a difficult story line and family line. A time table that I think catches so many Mrs. Mike followers off guard. The intention was not to do another Mrs. Mike or Mrs. Mike 2 episode. As they explained they did that already eons ago. For them it was to tell the next generations story and they did that with history intact. I thought wonderful and well written and I'm sad that so many people felt let down. I for one think the writing was good. While my husband would never read the type of story Mrs. Mike was he might read and enjoy the historic times brought out in this The Search for Joyful. I was a young teen when I read Mrs. Mike and not an assignment just a library check out. I fell in love with it didn't re-read it until my 50's. A lot of the romance and pain was no longer the same for me that it was as the teen. Yet I enjoyed the book and wanted to read it again before reading this next story. Hat's off to some wonderful writers who have given us two and possibly three great novels. For my next read is going to be their Kathy.....and so to you dear people thank you for finally getting round to the continuation of story. Thank you thank you thank you. At your ages many blessings to you for doing so makes it even more precious if not a bit precocious. An expression of behavior usually spent on the youth....and in your case young at heart. Such a delight you Freedman's have been!
- Though many of Amazon's reviewers did not give this sequel favorable reviews, I think this book is far superior to the preceeding story. The two books have a very different flavor. The first book is like a romantic novel, while the second comes closer to being a respectable literary fare. The writing and plot of the second book offer at least as much depth and iterest as the first.
I think that if those who loved the first book are disappointed by its sequel, it has more to do with the fact that Mary Katherine and Mike Flannagan are minor characters in the second book. Be Joyful's daughter has at least as much moxie and depth as the her adoptive mother Mrs. Mike. Like her mother, she discovers who she is through much adversity, and is forced to answer many of life's enduring questions along the way. I think that Be Joyful's daughter is a more timeless and interesting person than her mother. I sincerely believe that the sequel is the superior of the two works. It is a more sophisticated story and perhaps therefore less accessible.
- I read Mrs. Mike when I was 7 years old and remember asking my Mother for help with some of the words. Since my 4 daughters and 5 granddaughters are also readers of everything they can get their hands on, I told them about my first book and decided to find a copy (which I did thru Amazon and the Book Service). "The Search for Joyful" arrived before my new/old copy of Mrs. Mike and I read it first. I was amazed that I remembered the history of the characters so vividly.
The story continues for Mrs. Mike thru her children in the sequel. The author writes an easy to follow, light hearted but real story of this family. I am hoping "my girls" will treasure my new purchases as much I have - by memory - for such a long time. I am 67 years old. Thank you Amazon for finding the books for me. Sincerely, Carolyn E Ashbrook
- Was this really written by the same authors of Mrs. Mike? I find it poorly put together and very hard to believe. I never "like" the character I am reading about. I don't understand her. I plodded through the book anyway, hoping that somewhere it would turn up good. But, unfortunately, that never happened. I have not read the third book in this saga yet, and am hesitant to do so. I may just stick with reading Mrs. Mike over and over.
- If you are expecting a story as good as Mrs. Mike, you won't find it here. You would never know that the same authors penned this book. Mrs. Mike is one of my all-time favorite books and I would never part with my copy. The sequel is terrible--bad story, Mrs. Mike (referred to in this book as "Mama Kathy") has a very minor part in it, and I wondered why the main character was called "Kathy" when in Mrs. Mike, her adoptive parents decided to call her "Kate" because it would be too confusing to have two Kathys in the house. From what I can tell about the sequel to this book, the next one is even worse and I don't plan to waste my money.

5 comments about Stuff on My Cat: The Book.
- This is the funniest cat photo book since Why Paint Cats, which fooled a lot of people into thinking the images were real "cat paintings." But here the photos actually are real. Considering how finicky cats can be, it's amazing so many of them would put up with having so much odd junk piled on them, and then being patient enough so that you could take their picture. If I hadn't seen the book I might not have believed it myself. With so much odd stuff piled on them, the images become sort of live kitty collages. :-) For someone who is both a cat fancier and amateur photographer there is probably no more entertaining book than this.
-
My poor cats have no idea what they have coming the next time I'm drunk off my butt on Jack Daniels' popsicles!
- Sometimes it is great to have something fun to open at Christmas. This year I gave this book to my new son-in-law, and it was quickly passed around the family. My daughter says that they have it out at their home to share with their guests. Hey, I'm allergic to cats, and I even like it!
- If you have the Internet none of the pictures are that great. Many of the pictures are online or have been done better since. The paperback is too small to enjoy the collection pages (they display 20 or so pictures on one page). You can get this for someone that doesn't have the Internet, but the paperback isn't good enough so you would need to find a hardback; but I couldn't see paying the price.
- I picked up this book in a bookstore and couldn't put it down. It was so good, I read it cover to cover at the bookstore, but I didn't buy it (because many book readers are perverse and cheapskates about buying "non-literary books"). Months later, I still think about it and I'm laughing. So I'm finally caving in and parting with my money to get a copy. If anything, it is worth ten bucks for the idea. But it took me months to realize it. Yes, it is that good. (To cat owners especially).

2 comments about Purr-ables from Heaven: Devotions for Cat Lovers.
- Purr-ables from Heaven is simply a marvelous book, whether one wants to read short amounts of it daily or in larger sections, because the writing and insights are so eloquent either way. If you love cats, or any animals, and want to know more about life in both its joys and sorrows, this is a wonderful collection of true stories about the authors' cats, which correspond to deeper truths for humans. It is also a very affordable book to give as a gift to family members and friends. With its delightful title and appealing picture of a cat on the cover, one is not surprised to discover that the three authors can make us chuckle at times. However, they also write sensitively about such profound issues as the loss of those closest to us, and the gaining of faith in God. As I was typing this, my cat knocked over a flower vase full of water on my dining room table, and I recalled one of the stories which reminds us to be patient with the shortcomings of our cats, and of the people in our lives, as well!
- This is a beautifully written book with warm, inspirational stories. Makes a nice gift for people you care about!
