1. Starting to read in this book, the first thing you think is that you have picked up a book written in the 1950's. The first chapter is so basic, that it seems condescending. The pictures have to be old, or else they just feature items which I have never seen before. Ever seen antifreeze in a 1 gallon metal can? Considering that the title is Automotive Cooling System Basics, the first chapter is forgivable. I consider myself a gearhead, and a lot of this book has information which I am familiar with, but which most automotive mechanics are ignorant of. Very few people will be able to read this book and say they knew it all. I picked up the book, because it had a chapter on water wetters, something I have been curious about for years, and a chapter on non aqueous propylene glycol, something that I recently became interested in. The chapter was pretty thorough and extremely interesting, especially if you are interested in high performance motors/racing. Read this and you will be the most informed person you know on the subject.

1. I'm not always crazy about these guides, their usefullness is for such a short duration, but I must say that this one is quite well done. It gives you a good idea of what the pieces of this style are going for at the time and what is selling and what is not..again at the time of the auction. The book does a nice job, better than most Millers guides, of giving many examples of different pieces of furniture in each style. The biggest problem with these guides are that they are a bit expensive and obviously go out of date quickly. Once they are more than a few years old they are really not of much use, other than to admire the beautiful furniture in the pictures. Having said that the book is well put together and the pictures are quite nice, though I wish more where in color.

The High level of the invited speaker and the excellent work they made in preparing their intervenctions make this text an unavoidable tool for people and students approaching the conservation of paintings supported by wooden panels.
